1Status and development of mineral wool made from molten blast furnace slag显示文摘This study describes the characteristics of mineral wool and its applications,and also introduces the traditional process of mineral wool made from molten blast furnace(BF) slag.Compared with high energy consumption of the traditional process,the production of mineral wool by using molten BF slag will be able to take full advantage of the sensible heat of molten slag,and also reduce production costs.However,there are also further issues to resolve such as how to obtain the required amount of molten BF slag and how to make it homogeneous.Based on the physical and chemical properties of the molten BF slag,the investigation into the relationship between temperature and viscosity under different acidity coefficients of the slag and silicon mixture was conducted.Combined with the crystallization and phase diagram of slag wool,its heat resistance,water resistance,durability and corrosion resistance were analyzed.Finally,trends of the technology development are proposed.XIAO Yongli LIU Yin LI Yongqian 2011Baosteel Technical Research2011,5,2:16
2“Quartus scale” of hot-rolled strip steels and its formation mechanism显示文摘The types and growth of various oxide scales formed during the different phases of the production of hot- rolled strip steel products are reviewed.Similarities and differences between the'tertiary scale'on the surface of carbon steels at high temperatures and the oxide scale on pure iron are compared.The micro-structural features of the'final oxide scale'on the surface of strip steels at room temperature as well as the relationship between these features and the position of the steel coil(plate)and the subsequent processes of recoiling,temper rolling and trimming,etc, are summarized.The actual oxide scales retained on the commercial hot-rolled strip steels at room temperature have been proposed to define as'quartus scale'for the first time.The micro-structural development and phase transformation of the initial'tertiary scale'during and after cooling and coiling are described.The reasons for the'tertiary scale'on carbon steels differing from the oxide scale formed on pure iron,and the major influencing factors in the formation of various types of'quartus scales'are analyzed from both thermodynamic and dynamic viewpoints.The development mechanism of'quartus scales'is discussed and the potential effects of the'quartus scale'state (thickness,constitution,structure and defects),on the rusting and pickling properties of commercial hot-rolled strip steel,as well as on the mechanical properties of oxide scales are analyzed.Huibin Qi Yuhai Qian Wei Wang Hua Zhang 2007Baosteel Technical Research2007,1,1:13
3Control of nonmetallic inclusions of non-oriented silicon steel sheets by the rare earth treatment显示文摘Based on the industrial production of non-oriented silicon steel,the rare earth(RE) treatment during the Ruhrstahl Heraeus(RH) refining process was studied.The morphology and the size distribution were observed for the steel specimens treated with different RE treatment conditions.Furthermore,the formation and change of the nonmetallic inclusion characteristics of finished steel sheets after the RE treatment were discussed.The results have shown that in the present work,the suitable RE metal additions are 0.6-0.9 kg/t steel.After the suitable RE treatment,the formation of AlN and MnS inclusions were restrained,and the aggregation,flotation and removal of nonmetallic inclusions were efficiently promoted and the cleanliness of liquid steel was significantly increased.Meanwhile,the total oxygen concentration reached the minimum value and the desulfurization efficiency was optimal,and the type of main inclusions was approximately spherical or elliptical spherical RE radicle inclusions whose size was relatively large.ZHANG Feng MA Changsong WANG BO ZHANG Peili MA Zhigang ZHANG Yi 2011Baosteel Technical Research2011,5,2:12
4Girth weldability and welding process of Baosteel X80 UOE linepipes显示文摘An analysis of the girth weldability of Baosteel X80 UOE (U-ing-O-ing-Expanding) linepipes was conducted using manual shielded metal arc welding (SMAW) and semiautomatic self-shielded flux cored wire arc welding (FCAW).A technical specification for the optimum quality of a girth welding joint was obtained through a large amount of testing.According to the requirements of America Petroleum Institute(API) standard 1104 and the standards of the 2nd West-East natural gas transmission pipeline project,the mechanical properties of a girth welding joint were estimated.In addition,the effect of the girth welding procedure specifications and the consumable's suitability on the impact toughness of the girth welding joint was discussed.LIU Shuo 2010Baosteel Technical Research2010,4,3:12
5Study on non-metallic inclusions in Al killed high strength alloy steel refined by high basicity and high Al_2O_3 content slag显示文摘Laboratory and industrial studies were carried out to investigate non-metallic inclusions in high strength alloy steel refined by high basicity and high Al2O3 slag.It was found that the steel/slag reaction time largely affected non-metallic inclusions.With the reaction time increased from 30 min to 90 min in laboratory study,MgO-Al2O3 spinels were gradually changed into CaO-MgO-Al2O3 system inclusions surrounded by softer CaO-Al2O3 surface layers.By using high basicity slag which contained as much as 41%Al2O3 in the laboratory study,ratio of low melting temperature CaO-MgO-Al2O3 system inclusions was remarkably increased to above 80%.In the industrial experiment,during the secondary refining,the inclusions changed in order of 'Al2O3→MgO-Al2O3→CaO-MgO-Al2O3'.Through the LF and RH refining,most inclusions could be transferred to lower melting temperature CaO-Al2O3 and CaO-MgO-Al2O3 system inclusions.WANG Xinhua,JIANG Min and WANG Wanjun School of Metallurgical and Ecological Engineering,University of Science and Technology Beijing,Beijing 100083,China 2010Baosteel Technical Research2010,4,S1:10
6Recent developments of large diameter X80 UOE line pipes显示文摘High-strength pipeline steel and large diameter line pipes are often used to increase the capacity of transportation and reduce the cost associated with the construction and operation of long-distance gas pipeline projects. China's initiatives to construct long-distance natural gas pipelines has brought in new opportunities for the development of X80 line pipes. Baosteel has designed the optimum chemical composition of X80 with high niobium and low molybdenum content. In addition,a welding experimental platform and a finite element model(FEM) have supported the development of X80 UOE pipes in an efficient and economical way. The application and recent development of X80 UOE pipes were introduced in this paper. To comply with the requirements of the Second West-East Gas Pipeline Project(2ndWEPP),X80 pipeline steel with low carbon bainite microstructure was developed by utilizing the optimized composition and TMCP process. The matching welding material,welding procedure and UOE forming processes for 1219mm outside diameter X80 UOE pipes were also developed. More than 340000 t of X80 UOE pipes were produced and applied in the 2ndWEPP. Furthermore,to meet the prospective demand for long-distance gas pipelines with an annual transportation capacity of over 40 billion m3,larger size X80UOE pipes with 1 422 mm OD × 30. 8 mm WT were trial produced recently. DWTT performance,the main technical challenge for heavier wall pipes,was improved by using optimized microstructural design. 7Progress in the technological development of oxide metallurgy for manufacturing steel plates with excellent HAZ toughness显示文摘In the present study,the market needs for the development of steel plates with excellent heat affected zone(HAZ) toughness are analyzed,and the mechanism of the decrease in the HAZ toughness during high-heat input welding is discussed.The important countermeasure for improving the HAZ toughness is to employ the technology of oxide metallurgy,namely,to make use of fine inclusion particles for improving the microstructure of HAZ.The progress and theories of oxide metallurgy technologies developed in the Nippon Steel Corporation(NSC),the JFE Steel Corporation and the Kobe Steel Group are illustrated.Steel plates developed by these three companies with excellent HAZ toughness are introduced.Yang Jian Zhu Kai Wang Guodong 2008Baosteel Technical Research2008,2,4:9

9Interactions of Sn and S and their effects on the magnetic properties of non-oriented silicon steel sheets显示文摘The interactions of Sn and S and their effects on the magnetic properties of non-oriented silicon steel sheets were discussed in reference to industrial production.Results show that minor amounts of Sn can improve magnetic induction sharply but have little effect on core loss when the S content is below 10×10-4%.The precipitation of AIN can be restrained effectively by Sn.Sn,as the nucleus,can remove some of the inclusions with a size of 0.5μm or larger,but has little effect on inclusions smaller than 0.5μm,which is the key factor affecting core loss.Sn improves the magnetic induction of finished steel sheets mainly through the change of the steel texture.The relationship between the magnetic induction and Sn and S content can be regressed as B50= 1.69 -4.37 ws+0.30 wSn.From the regression formulation,the magnetic induction can be improved by 0.03 T when 0.01%Sn is added under relatively low S content conditions.ZHANG Feng WANG Bo LV Xuejun CHEN Lingyun 2013Baosteel Technical Research2013,7,2:8
10Effects of calcium treatment on non-metallic inclusions and magnetic properties of non-oriented silicon steel sheets显示文摘Based on the industrial production of non-oriented silicon steel,calcium treatment by CaSi wire feeding during the RH refining process was studied.The thermodynamics of CaS inclusion formation was analyzed,and the morphology and the size distribution were observed.Furthermore,the change in inclusion characteristics after calcium treatment and the effect of calcium treatment on magnetic properties were discussed.The results show that the formation of MnS and AlN inclusions were restrained,and the aggregating,floating and removing of microinclusions after calcium treatment were effectively promoted.The cleanliness of liquid steel was obviously increased.The main type of inclusions was single phase of CaO,with some complex inclusions composed of CaO,SiO2 and MgO.No CaS inclusion was observed after an appropriate calcium treatment.The size of all inclusions was distributed in the range of 2-20 μm,and the number was about 1.8×105 /mm3.In addition,as an increasing amount of calcium was added,the core loss gradually decreased to a stable level,and the magnetic induction decreased quickly after a slow increase.The optimal calcium treatment mode depends on the chemical composition of steel.ZHANG Feng MIAO Lede ZONG Zhenyu WANG Bo ZHANG Yi MA Zhigang 2013Baosteel Technical Research2013,7,1:7
11Recent progress in the development and application of the new Gen.AHSS at Baosteel显示文摘In recent years,despite the global economic recession and steel oversupply,the demand for high strength steel( HSS) and advanced high strength steel( AHSS) sheets has robustly increased. To supply the materials needed for automotive manufacturing,various AHSS products and application technologies have been developed by Baosteel,including the 1st,2nd,and 3rd Gen. AHSS,which makes Baosteel the world's first steel maker to commercially provide all three generations of AHSS. Recently,the new Gen.( the 2nd and 3rd Gen. combined)AHSS products,which feature ultra-high strength and enhanced ductility,have drawn great attention from both steel makers and the automotive industry as these products can be used to produce auto parts with complicated shapes by cold forming and have great potential for manufacturing car bodies that are lighter in weight and have higher crash resistance. In this article,the concepts,properties,and applications of Baosteel's new Gen. 12Study on the interface of direct hot rolling titanium-clad steel plates显示文摘In this study,the interface characteristics of a direct hot rolling titanium-clad steel plate were analyzed,and the mechanism of interface cracking was explored. The detrimental effect from the formation of TFe,TiC,and a Si-enriched layer on the bonding strength was clarified,and an industrial-scaled titanium-clad steel plate with shear strength over 200 MPa was produced with a carefully set schedule accordingly. It was found that hot rolling titanium-clad steel plates had a flat interface without obvious cracks. In the rolling process,both Ti and Fe atoms interdiffused,but Fe diffused much faster than Ti. The Fe-diffused area consisted of three regions. After a high temperature heat treatment,the diffusion depth of Fe and Ti elements increased significantly and evident Si segregation and TiFe layers were identified. 13Development and application of Baosteel X80 large diameter UOE longitudinal submerged arc welded pipes显示文摘With the increase in energy demand,the demand for oil and gas transmission pipes,particularly high-grade longitudinal submerged arc welded pipes (LSAWs),have been growing in recent years.The construction of the 2nd West-East natural gas transmission pipeline project shows that the oil and gas pipeline construction has entered a new phase of development with X80 pipes being applied in large scales for the first time in China.This paper briefly introduces the 2nd West-East natural gas transmission pipeline project and its main technical requirements with the focus on the features of API standard 5L X80 grade  1219 mm series of U-ing-O-ing-Expanding (UOE) LSAW pipes,which Baosteel developed with the integrated technology for the 2nd West-East natural gas transmission pipeline project.The analysis shows the extra-low carbon content,the high contents of manganese and niobium,the fine microstructure,the high strength,the toughness and the good weldability of X80 pipes meet the requirements of 'the technical specification of LSAW linepipes for the 2nd West-East natural gas transmission pipeline project in China'.By the end of June 2010,Baosteel had totally produced 322000 t of 1219 mm X80 UOE steel pipes,which have been successfully used in the 2nd West-East natural gas transmission pipeline project,thus filling the gap of the production of large diameter X80 UOE LSAW pipes in China.XIE Shiqiang GUI Guangzheng ZHENG Lei 2010Baosteel Technical Research2010,4,3:6
14Control of thermal crown in the roller inside the continuous annealing furnace显示文摘In a continuous annealing furnace,the hearth rollers are affected by heat,which in turn affects the stable operation of the steel strips.In order to ensure the stable operation of the steel strips the ability of the rollers to correct themselves and to prevent the steel strips from buckling,effective measures are required to control the surface crown of the rollers inside the furnace.Starting from production,this study analyzes the way in which the crown of the hearth rollers inside the continuous annealing furnace changes.The study suggests control measures to prevent buckling and and misalignment.The study definitely provides guidance to the stable operation of steel strips in continuous annealed furnaces.HU Guangkui 2009Baosteel Technical Research2009,3,1:6

16Development and application of a new hot-work die steel for hot stamping显示文摘A new hot-work die steel for hot stamping was developed, and used the die for mass production. The produced die showed good performance owing to its high heat conductivity and wear-resistant characteristics. Two different benchmarking hot-work die steels were investigated, and then compared in terms of their impact ductility,temper characteristics, heat conductivity, and thermal stability. The result of the high-temperature friction wear test indicated that oxidative wear was the main mode in high temperature. On the basis of the comparison and test results, the alloying composition of the new hot-work die steel was especially designed. The new die steel showed good performance with good wear-resistant quality, as well as temper hardness and heat conductivity of HRC 50 and34.3 W/(m·K), respectively. Furthermore,without surface plasma nitriding, the die made of the new steel had no obvious galling with 6142 strokes. 17The effect of V-Nb on the growth of austenite grains in 17CrNiMo6 gear steel显示文摘This study researches the effect of V-Nb on the growth of austenite grains in 17CrNiMo6 carburized gear steel.Results show that the carbonitride in V and Nb acts as second-phase particles in the steel,which can be used to block the migration of grain boundaries and the thinning of the austenite grains.This causes the crystals in the V-Nb microalloy 17CrNiMo6 steel to coarsen and the temperature to rise,thus reducing the cost of the carbonization that follows processing on the gears.Zhao Yaping Wang Maoqiu Yuan Jiguo 2008Baosteel Technical Research2008,2,2:5
18Analysis of edge microstructural characteristics and stamping formability of low carbon pickled steel sheets显示文摘The microstructural characteristics and formability at the edges of low carbon pickled steel sheets have been investigated based on the generation of earing and cracking defects while drawing. The microstructure of the edge features coarse grains and mixed sized grains. The strength of the sheet edge is slightly lower than that at the center. Besides,the formability is obviously worsened. The plastic strain ratios along the longitudinal and transverse orientations are 0.31 and 0.6,respectively,with distinct anisotropy. The plastic strain ratio at the edge is obviously lower than that at the middle of the steel sheet. The observed microstructural characteristics and mechanical properties at the edge of the steel sheet can be attributed to the lower rolling temperature in the two-phase region of pro-eutectoid ferrite and austenite. These differences in microstructure and mechanical properties at the edge of the steel sheet lead to the generation of earing and cracking defects while drawing. 19Reaction mechanism of phosphorus with multi phase fluxes during hot metal dephosphorization显示文摘The formation of solid solution combined with tricalcium phosphate and dicalcium silicate could promote a considerable removal of phosphorus from liquid slag to solid during hot metal dephosphorization,and thus the dephosphorization by using multi phase fluxes could significantly decrease the consumption of lime. 20Influence of reflow processing conditions on the uniformity of the chromium passivation film on tinplate显示文摘This study aims to systematically analyze the key parameters of the reflow process that influence the uniformity of the chromium passivation film coated on tinplate. The distribution characteristics of the chromium passivation film coated on the tinplate surface under different treatment conditions w ere systematically characterized using the scanning Kelvin probe technique,X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy,and X-ray diffraction. Results indicate that the use of flux reduces the porosity of tin coating,thereby favoring the uniform grow th of the passivation film.
