1Transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt in cirrhosis: An exhaustive critical update显示文摘More than five decades after it was originally conceptualized as rescue therapy for patients with intractable variceal bleeding,the transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt(TIPS)procedure continues to remain a focus of intense clinical and biomedical research.By the impressive reduction in portal pressure achieved by this intervention,coupled with its minimally invasive nature,TIPS has gained increasing acceptance in the treatment of complications of portal hypertension.The early years of TIPS were plagued by poor long-term patency of the stents and increased incidence of hepatic encephalopathy.Moreover,the diversion of portal flow after placement of TIPS often resulted in derangement of hepatic functions,which was occasionally severe.While the incidence of shunt dysfunction has markedly reduced with the advent of covered stents,hepatic encephalopathy and instances of early liver failure continue to remain a significant issue after TIPS.It has emerged over the years that careful selection of patients and diligent post-procedural care is of paramount importance to optimize the outcome after TIPS.The past twenty years have seen multiple studies redefining the role of TIPS in the management of variceal bleeding and refractory ascites while exploring its application in other complications of cirrhosis like hepatic hydrothorax,portal hypertensive gastropathy,ectopic varices,hepatorenal and hepatopulmonary syndromes,non-tumoral portal vein thrombosis and chylous ascites.It has also been utilized to good effect before extrahepatic abdominal surgery to reduce perioperative morbidity and mortality.The current article aims to review the updated literature on the status of TIPS in the management of patients with liver cirrhosis.Sasidharan Rajesh Tom George Cyriac Abby Philips Rizwan Ahamed Sandeep Kumbar Narain Mohan Meera Mohanan Philip Augustine 2020World Journal of Gastroenterology2020,26,37:26
2Supplementation of grape pomace(Vitis vinifera) in broiler diets and its effect on growth performance, apparent total tract digestibility of nutrients,blood profile,and meat quality显示文摘This experiment was conducted to explore the efficacy of grape pomace(Vitis vinifera) on growth performance, apparent total tract digestibility of nutrients, blood profile, and meat quality in commercial broilers.Four hundred broiler chicks(3-d-old) were randomly allotted to 4 dietary treatments for 28 d.Each treatment had 5 replicates with 20 birds per replicate.The dietary treatments were 1) control, 2)5 g/kg grape pomace(GP), 3) 7.5 g/kg GP, and 4) 10 g/kg GP supplemented in diets after drying.Supplementation of GP did not show linear effects(P > 0.05) on body weight(BW) gain, however, quadratic effects(P < 0.05) on BW gain were observed during d 0 to 7 and d 8 to 14.Body weight gain, feed intake,and feed conversion ratio remained unaffected during d 22 to 28 and overall period.The nutrient digestibility studies conducted at the end of the feeding trial did not show(P > 0.05) any effect due to GP supplementation, except a quadratic trend(P=0.07) for digestibility of ash was observed.Serum levels of glucose, triglyceride, and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol were not affected(P > 0.05), however,total cholesterol and serum immunoglobulin G levels showed quadratic effects(P < 0.05) due to GP supplementation.The thio-barbituric acid reactive substances values in breast meat linearly decreased(P < 0.01) in supplemented groups at 0, 5, and 10 d of storage showing linear effects due to GP supplementation, and quadratic effects were also observed at 5 and 10 d of storage.The meat color value such as redness was also decreased(P < 0.05) in supplemented groups showing both linear and quadratic effects.Overall, it could be concluded that GP supplementation showed quadratic effects on BW gain during early growth stages and was effective in reducing serum cholesterol level and improving meat quality parameters in broilers.Siska Aditya Sang-Jip Ohh Musabbir Ahammed Jayant Lohakare 2018Animal Nutrition2018,,2:9

5Methyl jasmonate mediates melatonin-induced cold tolerance of grafted watermelon plants显示文摘Root–shoot communication has a critical role in plant adaptation to environmental stress.Grafting is widely applied to enhance the abiotic stress tolerance of many horticultural crop species;however,the signal transduction mechanism involved in this tolerance remains unknown.Here,we show that pumpkin-or figleaf gourd rootstock-enhanced cold tolerance of watermelon shoots is accompanied by increases in the accumulation of melatonin,methyl jasmonate(MeJA),and hydrogen peroxide(H_(2)O_(2)).Increased melatonin levels in leaves were associated with both increased melatonin in rootstocks and MeJA-induced melatonin biosynthesis in leaves of plants under cold stress.Exogenous melatonin increased the accumulation of MeJA and H_(2)O_(2) and enhanced cold tolerance,while inhibition of melatonin accumulation attenuated rootstock-induced MeJA and H_(2)O_(2) accumulation and cold tolerance.MeJA application induced H_(2)O_(2) accumulation and cold tolerance,but inhibition of JA biosynthesis abolished rootstock-or melatonin-induced H_(2)O_(2) accumulation and cold tolerance.Additionally,inhibition of H_(2)O_(2) production attenuated MeJA-induced tolerance to cold stress.Taken together,our results suggest that melatonin is involved in grafting-induced cold tolerance by inducing the accumulation of MeJA and H_(2)O_(2).MeJA subsequently increases melatonin accumulation,forming a self-amplifying feedback loop that leads to increased H_(2)O_(2) accumulation and cold tolerance.This study reveals a novel regulatory mechanism of rootstock-induced cold tolerance.Hao Li Yanliang Guo Zhixiang Lan Kai Xu Jingjing Chang Golam Jalal Ahammed Jianxiang Ma Chunhua Wei Xian Zhang 2021Horticulture Research2021,8,1:5
6Protective effect of tannins from Ficus racemosa in hypercholesterolemia and diabetes induced vascular tissue damage in rats显示文摘Objective:To evaluate the protective effect of tannins from Ficus racemosa(F.racemosa) on the lipid profile and antioxidant parameters in high fat meal and streptozotocin induced hypercholestremia associated diabetes model in rats.Methods:The crude tannin fraction was separated from the acetone(70%v/v) bark extract of F.racemosa.Oral administratipn of tannin fraction(TF)(100 & 200 mg/kg body weight) to rats fed with high fat meal for 30 days (4%cholesterol,1%cholic acid,0.5%egg albumin) and injected with streptozotocin(35 mg/ kg i.p.in citrate buffer on 14th day).Results:The administration of TF significantly reverse the increased blood glucose,total cholesterol,triglycerides,low density lipoprotein and also significandy restored the insulin and high density lipoprotein in the serum.In addition tannins significantly restored the activity of antioxidant enzymes such as superoxide dismutase,catalase and decreased the,glutathione peroxidase,and glutathione,thereby restoring the antioxidant status of the organs to almost normal levels.Conclutions:The results of this study show that two different doses of tannin supplementation had a favorable effect on plasma glucose and lipid profile concentrations.It also had an influence on attenuating oxidative stress in diabetic tats.Velayutham Ravichandiran Sankaradoss Nirmala KFH Nazeer Ahamed 2012Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2012,5,5:5

8旁观者目击与心肺复苏对成人院外心跳骤停预后的影响显示文摘目的:探讨旁观者目击与心肺复苏(CPR)对成人院外心脏骤停(OHCA)预后的真实影响。方法:以北美复苏终点联盟纳入PRIMED研究的成年心源性OHCA共11875例为研究对象,运用Logistic回归评价旁观者目击和旁观者CPR对成年心源性OHCA预后的影响。结果:旁观者目击较无旁观者目击OHCA在院前自主循环恢复、存活出院、出院时良好神经功能恢复等预后指标上明显改善;旁观者CPR可明显改善旁观者目击OHCA院前自主循环恢复、存活出院和出院时良好神经功能恢复;但对未被目击OHCA,旁观者CPR对存活出院和良好神经功能恢复的改善无统计学差异。结论:旁观者目击和CPR显著改善OHCA预后,但对无旁观者目击OHCA实施CPR对预后无显著改善效应。文隽永 廖瑾莉 蒋龙元 熊艳 Ahamed Idris 2017岭南急诊医学杂志2017,22,6:4

11Endoscopic therapy for biliary strictures complicating living donor liver transplantation: Factors predicting better outcome显示文摘AIM To identify factors predicting outcome of endoscopic therapy in bile duct strictures(BDS) post living donor liver transplantation(LDLT).METHODS Patients referred with BDS post LDLT, were retrospectively studied. Patient demographics, symptoms(Pruritus, Jaundice, cholangitis), intra-op variables(cold ischemia time, blood transfusions, number of ducts used, etc.), peri-op complications [hepatic artery thrombosis(HAT), bile leak, infections], stricture morphology(length, donor and recipient duct diameters) and relevant laboratory data both pre-and post-endotherapy were studied. Favourable response to endotherapy was defined as symptomatic relief with > 80% reduction in total bilirubin/serum gamma glutamyl transferase. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS 20.0.RESULTS Forty-one patients were included(age: 8-63 years). All had right lobe LDLT with duct-to-duct anastomosis. Twenty patients(48.7%) had favourable response to endotherapy. Patients with single duct anastomosis, aggressive stent therapy(multiple endoscopic retrogradecholagiography, upsizing of stents, dilatation and longer duration of stents) and an initial favourable response to endotherapy were independent predictors of good outcome(P < 0.05). Older donor age, HAT, multiple ductal anastomosis and persistent bile leak(> 4 wk post LT) were found to be significant predictors of poor response on multivariate analysis(P < 0.05). CONCLUSION Endoscopic therapy with aggressive stent therapy especially in patients with single duct-to-duct anastomosis was associated with a better outcome. 15Mesuaferrea stem bark extract induces apoptosis and inhibits metastasis in human colorectal carcinoma HCT 116 cells, through modulation of multiple cell signalling pathways显示文摘Considering the great potential of natural products as anticancer agents, the present study was designed to explore the molecular mechanisms responsible for anticancer activities of Mesua ferrea stem bark extract against human colorectal carcinoma. Based on MTT assay results, bioactive sub-fraction(SF-3) was selected for further studies using HCT 116 cells. Repeated column chromatography resulted in isolation of less active α-amyrin from SF-3, which was identified and characterized by GC-MS and HPLC methods. α-amyrin and betulinic acid contents of SF-3 were measured by HPLC methods. Fluorescent assays revealed characteristic apoptotic features, including cell shrinkage, nuclear condensation, and marked decrease in mitochondrial membrane potential in SF-3 treated cells. In addition, increased levels of caspases-9 and-3/7 levels were also observed in SF-3 treated cells. SF-3 showed promising antimetastatic properties in multiple in vitro assays. Multi-pathway analysis revealed significant down-regulation of WNT, HIF-1α, and EGFR with simultaneous up-regulation of p53, Myc/Max, and TGF-β signalling pathways in SF-3 treated cells. In addition, promising growth inhibitory effects were observed in SF-3 treated HCT 116 tumour spheroids, which give a hint about in vivo antitumor efficacy of SF-3 phytoconstituents. 17A quasi-steady state model for predicting the heating requirements of conventional greenhouses in cold regions显示文摘A time-dependent,quasi-steady state thermal model(GREENHEAT)based on the lumped estimation of heat transfer parameters of greenhouses has been developed to predict the hourly heating requirements of conventional greenhouses.The model was designed to predict the hourly heating requirements based on the input of greenhouse indoor environmental control parameters,physical and thermal properties of crops and construction materials,and hourly weather data including temperature,relative humidity,wind speed,and cloud cover.The model includes all of the heat transfer parameters in greenhouses including the heat loss for plant evapotranspiration,and the heat gain from environmental control systems.Results show that the predicted solar radiation data from the solar radiation sub-model are a reasonable fit with the data from the National Solar Radiation Database(NSRDB).Thermal analysis indicates environmental control systems could reduce 13–56%of the total heating requirements over the course of a year in the study greenhouse.During the winter season,the highest amount of greenhouse heat is lost due to conduction and convection,and the heat used for evapotranspiration is dominant in the summer.Finally,the model was validated with actual heating data collected from a commercial greenhouse located in Saskatoon,and the results show that the model satisfactorily predicts the greenhouse heating requirements.Md Shamim Ahamed Huiqing Guo Karen Tanino 2018Information Processing in Agriculture2018,5,1:2
