Development of distributed time-variant gain model for nonlinear hydrological systems显示文摘In this paper, a rainfall-runoff modeling system is developed based on a nonlinear Volterra functional series and a hydrological conceptual modeling approach. Two models, i.e. the time-variant gain model (TVGM) and the distributed time-variant gain model (DTVGM) that are built on the platform of Digital Elevation Model (DEM), Remote Sensing (RS) and Unit Hydro-logical Process were proposed. The developed DTVGM model was applied to two cases in the Heihe River Basin that is located in the arid and semiarid region of northwestern China and the Chaobai River basin located in the semihumid region of northern China. The results indicate that, in addition to the classic dynamic differential approach to describe nonlinear processes in hy-drological systems, it is possible to study such complex processes through the proposed sys-tematic approach to identify prominent hydrological relations. The DTVGM, coupling the advan-tages of both nonlinear and distributed hydrological models, can simulate variant hydrological processes under different environment conditions. Satisfactory results were obtained in fore-casting the time-space variations of hydrological processes and the relationships between land use/cover change and surface runoff variation.XIA Jun1, 2, WANG Gangsheng1, TAN Ge1, YE Aizhong2 & G. 2An Archean continental block in the Taihangshan and Hengshan regions: Constraints from geochronology and geochemistry显示文摘Recent research on the tectonothermal evolution and geochronology in the Fuping, Hengshan and Wutaishan metamorphic complexes, together with the discoveries of a high-pressure granulite belt in the northern margin of the North China Craton (NCC) and high-pressure metapelites in the Jingangku Group of the Wutaishan complex, suggests that there was a Neoarchean to Paleoproterozoic orogenic belt related to collision between the Eastern and Western continental blocks. Comparison of geological, geochronological, tectonothermal and geochemical data between the Fuping and Hengshan complexes suggests these two complexes most likely originated and evolved as a single lithotectonic domain (i.e., the Taihangshan-Hengshan block) during the early evolution of the North China Craton, probably as an active margin to the Eastern Continental Block. The Taihangshan-Hengshan block has been subjected to intensive and extensive tectono-magmatism and high-grade metamorphism related to collision between the Eastern and Western continental blocks at ~1.80 Ga.LIU Shuwen , LI Jianghai, PAN Yuanming, ZHANG Jian and LI Qiugen(1. 3Numerical simulation of mechanisms of deformation, failure and energy dissipation in porous rock media subjected to wave stresses显示文摘The pore characteristics, mineral compositions, physical and mechanical properties of the subarkose sandstones were acquired by means of CT scan,X-ray diffraction and physical tests.A few physical models possessing the same pore characteristics and matrix properties but different porosities compared to the natural sandstones were developed. The 3D finite element models of the rock media with varied porosities were established based on the CT image processing of the physical models and the MIMICS software platform. The failure processes of the porous rock media loaded by the split Hopkinson pressure bar(SHPB) were simulated by satisfying the elastic wave propagation theory. The dynamic responses, stress transition, deformation and failure mechanisms of the porous rock media subjected to the wave stresses were analyzed. It is shown that an explicit and quantitative analysis of the stress, strain and deformation and failure mechanisms of porous rocks under the wave stresses can be achieved by using the developed 3D finite element models. With applied wave stresses of certain amplitude and velocity,no evident pore deformation was observed for the rock media with a porosity less than 15%.The deformation is dominantly the combination of microplasticity(shear strain),cracking(tensile strain) of matrix and coalescence of the cracked regions around pores.Shear stresses lead to microplasticity, while tensile stresses result in cracking of the matrix.Cracking and coalescence of the matrix elements in the neighborhood of pores resulted from the high transverse tensile stress or tensile strain which exceeded the threshold values. The simulation results of stress wave propagation, deformation and failure mechanisms and energy dissipation in porous rock media were in good agreement with the physical tests. The present study provides a reference for analyzing the intrinsic mechanisms of the complex dynamic response, stress transit mode, deformation and failure mechanisms and the disaster mechanisms of rock media.JU Yang1,2,WANG HuiJie1,YANG YongMing1,HU QinAng3 & PENG RuiDong1 1 State Key Laboratory of Coal Resources and Safe Mining,Beijing Key Laboratory of Fracture and Damage Mechanics of Rock and Concrete,China University of Mining and Technology,Beijing 100083,China 2 Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering,University of Calgary,Calgary,Alberta,T2N 1N4,Canada 3 School of Environment and Civil Engineering,College of Engineering,Oklahoma State University,Stillwater,OK 74078,USA 2010Science China(Technological Sciences)2010,53,4:32
Edge Effect Correction in the S-A Method for Geochemical Anomaly Separation显示文摘Anomaly separation using geochemical data often involves operations in the frequency domain, such as filtering and reducing noise/signal ratios. Unfortunately, the abrupt edge truncation of an image along edges and holes (with missing data) often causes frequency distribution distortion in the frequency domain. For example, bright strips are commonly seen in frequency distribution when using a Fourier transform. Such edge effect distortion may affect information extraction results; sometimes severely, depending on the edge abruptness of the image. Traditionally, edge effects are reduced by smoothing the image boundary prior to applying a Fourier transform. Zero-padding is one of the most commonly used smoothing methods. This simple method can reduce the edge effect to some degree but still distorts the image in some cases. Moreover, due to the complexity of geoscience images, which can include irregular shapes and holes with missing data, zero-padding does not always give satisfactory results. This paper proposes the use of decay functions to handle edge effects when extracting information from geoscience images. As an application, this method has been used in a newly developed multifractal method (S-A) for separating geochemical anomalies from background patterns. A geochemical dataset chosen from a mineral district in Nova Scotia, Canada was used to validate the method.Ge Yong Department of Earth and Atmospheric Science, York University, Toronto, ON, M3J 1P3, Canada State Key Laboratory of Resources and Environmental Information System, Institute of Geographic Sciences & Natural Resources Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing 100101, China Cheng Qiuming Department of Earth and Atmospheric Science, York University, Toronto, ON, M3J 1P3, Canada Earth Systems and Mineral Resource Engineering Lab, China University of Geosciences, Wuhan 430074, China Zhang Shenyuan Department of Earth and Atmospheric Science, York University, Toronto, ON, M3J 1P3, Canada Department of Resource and Earth Science, China University of Mining & Technology, Beijing 100083, China 2004Journal of China University of Geosciences2004,15,4:28
Structure and function of aggrecan显示文摘Aggrecan is the major proteoglycan in the articular cartilage. This molecule is important in the proper functioning of articular cartilage because it provides a hydrated gel structure (via its interaction with hyaluronan and link protein) that endows the cartilage with load-bearing properties. It is also crucial in chondroskeletal morphogenesis during development. Aggrecan is a multimodular molecule expressed by chondrocytes. Its core protein is composed of three globular domains (G1, G2, and G3) and a large extended region (CS) between G2 and G3 for glycosaminoglycan chain attachment. G1 comprises the amino terminus of the core protein. This domain has the same structural motif as link protein. Functionally, the G1 domain interacts with hyaluronan acid and link protein, forming stable ternary complexes in the extracellular matrix. G2 is homologous to the tandem repeats of G1 and of link protein and is involved in product processing. G3 makes up the carboxyl terminus of the core protein. It enhances glycosaminoglycan modification and product secretion. Aggrecan plays an important role in mediating chondrocyte-chondrocyte and chondrocyte-matrix interactions through its ability to bind hyaluronan.CHRIS KIANI, LIWEN CHEN, YAO JIONG WU, ALBERT J YEE, BURTON B YANG, Sunnybrook and Women’s College Health Sciences Centre and Department of Laboratory Medicine and Patobiology, 2 Department of Surgeny, Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto, Canada 2002Cell Research2002,12,1:27
A statistical model for porous structure of rocks显示文摘The geometric features and the distribution properties of pores in rocks were in- vestigated by means of CT scanning tests of sandstones. The centroidal coordi- nates of pores, the statistic characterristics of pore distance, quantity, size and their probability density functions were formulated in this paper. The Monte Carlo method and the random number generating algorithm were employed to generate two series of random numbers with the desired statistic characteristics and prob- ability density functions upon which the random distribution of pore position, dis- tance and quantity were determined. A three-dimensional porous structural model of sandstone was constructed based on the FLAC3D program and the information of the pore position and distribution that the series of random numbers defined. On the basis of modelling, the Brazil split tests of rock discs were carried out to ex- amine the stress distribution, the pattern of element failure and the inosculation of failed elements. The simulation indicated that the proposed model was consistent with the realistic porous structure of rock in terms of their statistic properties of pores and geometric similarity. The built-up model disclosed the influence of pores on the stress distribution, failure mode of material elements and the inosculation of failed elements.JU Yang1,2, YANG YongMing1, SONG ZhenDuo3 & XU WenJing4 1 State Key Laboratory of Coal Resources and Safe Mining, China University of Mining & Technology, Beijing 100083, China 2 Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering, The University of Calgary, 2500 University Drive NW Calgary, AB T2N 1N4, Canada 3 China National Coal Mining Equipment Co. 7Southeastern extension of the Red River fault zone (RRFZ) and its tectonic evolution significance in western South China Sea显示文摘Recent geophysical surveys and basin modeling suggest that the No.1 fault in the Ying- gehai basin (YGHB) is the seaward elongation of the Red River fault zone (RRFZ) in the South China Sea (SCS). The RRFZ, which separates the South China and Indochina block, extends first along the Yuedong fault, offshore of Vietnam, and then continues southward and breaks off into two branches: the Lupar fault and the Tinjia fault. The southern extension of the Lupar fault dies out beneath the NW Borneo while the Tinjia fault extends southeast and reaches the Brunei-Sabah area. According to the gravity and geomagnetic data, and the tectonic evolution of the basins, there are different evolution histories between the Wan’an basin (WAB) and the basins in the Nansha block. The Tinjia fault may be the boundary between the Balingian block and the Nansha block. Hence, the line linking the Yue- dong fault and the Tinjia fault, which both are continental margin faults and strike-slip ones in the geological evolution histories, constitute the boundary between the Indochina and Nansha block. The Lupar fault, in contrast, is an intraplate fault within the Indochina block. The results provide new hints for reconstructing the tectonic evolution history of the RRFZ and the opening of the SCS, and also a framework for hydrocarbon prospecting in the region.LIU Baoming1,2,3, XIA Bin1, LI Xuxuan1,3, ZHANG Minqiang1,3, NIU Binhua2, ZHONG Lifeng1, JIN Qinghuan1,4 & JI Shaocheng1,5 1. 8Hierarchical linear regression models for conditional quantiles显示文摘The quantile regression has several useful features and therefore is gradually developing into a comprehensive approach to the statistical analysis of linear and nonlinear response models, but it cannot deal effectively with the data with a hierarchical structure. In practice, the existence of such data hierarchies is neither accidental nor ignorable,it is a common phenomenon. To ignore this hierarchical data structure risks overlooking the importance of group effects, and may also render many of the traditional statistical analysis techniques used for studying data relationships invalid. On the other hand, the hierarchical models take a hierarchical data structure into account and have also many applications in statistics, ranging from overdispersion to constructing min-max estimators. However, the hierarchical models are virtually the mean regression, therefore, they cannot be used to characterize the entire conditional distribution of a dependent variable given high-dimensional covariates.Furthermore, the estimated coefficient vector (marginal effects)is sensitive to an outlier observation on the dependent variable. In this article,a new approach, which is based on the Gauss-Seidel iteration and taking a full advantage of the quantile regression and hierarchical models,is developed. On the theoretical front,we also consider the asymptotic properties of the new method, obtaining the simple conditions for an n1/2-convergence and an asymptotic normality. We also illustrate the use of the technique with the real educational data which is hierarchical and how the results can be explained.TIAN Maozai & CHEN Gemai School of Statistics, Renmin University of China, Beijing 100872, China and Center for Applied Statistics, Renmin University of China, Beijing 100872, China Department of Mathematics and Statistics, University of Calgary, Canada 2006Science China Mathematics2006,49,12:20
A Study on Solid/Melt Interfaces and the Formation of<100> Texture in Solidified FCC Metals显示文摘The (100) texture of solidified fcc metals, caused by the preferential (100) dendrite growth, could be closeIy related to solid/melt interfaces which behave differently along different crystallographic orientation. The stability and roughness of {111} and {100} solid/melt interfaces of fcc metals were investigated using a modified Temkin multi-layer model. It is demonstrated that {100}crystal/melt interface is more unstable and rougher than {111} interface. The effect of the stability of crystal/melt interface on the (100) texture formation in solidified fcc metals has been analysed and discussed.D.Y.Li(Dept. of Mater. 10利用H_2O-Nacl-CaCl_2体系水盐化合物和冰的融化温度计算NaCl/(Nacl+CaCl_2)比值和盐度的方程显示文摘The composition of fluid inclusions in the H_2O-NaCl-CaCl_2 system has been generally graphically estimated using the melting temperatures of hydrohalite(T_(m-HH))and ice(T_(m-ice)).Here we present two equations that can be used to calculate the relative proportion of NaCl(i.e.,NaCl/[NaCl+CaCl_2],or X_(NaCl))and the total salinity( i.e.,NaC1 + CaC12,wt% )for fluid inclusions with ice as the last melting phase.X_(NaCl)can be calculated from T_(m-HH)using the following equation: y=(a+bx)^(-1/c) where y is X_(NaCl),x is T_(m-HH),a=0.33124402,b=-0.031518028,and c=0.22932736.In the cases where only T_(m-ice)is measured and T_(m-HH)is not known,T_(m-ice)can be used as the maximum possible TIn.nil to calculate the maximum value of X_(NaCl)using the above equation. In these cases, the following equation can be used to calculate the maximum total salinity: y=(a+bx+cx^2)^(-1) where y is salinity,x is T_(m-HH),a=0.057184817,b=0.00078565757,and c=5.7262766E-6.Because the isothems in the field of ice are sub-parallel to the NaCl-CaCl_2 binary side in the H20-NaC1-CaC12 ternary system, the errors in salinity calculation introduced by the above approximation are small(less than 2 wt% ).A Windows program for calculation of X_(NsCl)and salinity is available at: http://gffzz48c1abc75f37476dhvkobow9cbw966nqb.ffgz.tsg.suse.edu.cn/~chiguox.GuoXiang CHI~(1*) Pei NI~(2**) 1.Department of Geology,University of Regina,3737 Wascana Parkway,Regina,Saskatchewan,Canada S4S 0A2 2.State Key Laboratory for Mineral Deposit Research,Institute of Geo-fluid Research,Department of Earth Science,Nanjing University,Nanjing 210093,China 2007岩石学报2007,23,1:18
Effect of transforming growth factor beta and bone morphogenetic proteins on rat hepatic stellate cell proliferation and transdifferentiation显示文摘AIM: To explore different roles of TGF-β (transforming growth factor beta) and bone morphogenetic proteins (BMPs)in hepatic stellate cell proliferation and trans-differentiation.METHODS: Hepatic stellate cells were isolated from male Sprague-Dawley rats. Sub-cultured hepatic stellate cells were employed for cell proliferation assay with WST-1 reagent and Western blot analysis with antibody against smooth muscle alpha actin (SMA).RESULTS: The results indicated that TGF-β1 significantly inhibited cell proliferation at concentration as low as 0.1 ng/ml, but both BMP-2 and BMP-4 did not affect cell proliferation at concentration as high as 10 ng/ml. The effect on hepatic stellate cell trans-differentiation was similar between TGFβ1 and BMPs. However, BMPs was more potent at transdifferentiation of hepatic stellate cells than TGF-β1. In addition, we observed that TGF-β1 transient reduced the abundance of SMA in hepatic stellate cells.CONCLUSION: TGF-β may be more important in regulation of hepatic stellate cell proliferation while BMPs may be the major cytokines regulating hepatic stellate cell transdifferentiation.Hong Shen Guo-Jiang Huang Yue-Wen Gong Departments of Internal Medicine,Biochemistry and Medical Genetics,Faculty of Medicine,University of Manitoba,Winnipeg,Manitoba,Canada 2003World Journal of Gastroenterology2003,9,4:17
Simple geometrical explanation of Gurtin-Murdoch model of surface elasticity with clarification of its related versions显示文摘It is showed that all equations of the linearized Gurtin-Murdoch model of surface elasticity can be derived, in a straightforward way, from a simple second-order expression for the ratio of deformed surface area to initial surface area. This elementary derivation offers a simple explanation for all unique features of the model and its simplified/modified versions, and helps to clarify some misunderstandings of the model already occurring in the literature. Finally, it is demonstrated that, because the Gurtin-Murdoch model is based on a hybrid formulation combining linearized deformation of bulk material with 2nd-order finite deformation of the surface, caution is needed when the original form of this model is applied to bending deformation of thin-walled elastic structures with surface stress.Ru C. 13Symmetric-key cryptosystem with DNA technology显示文摘DNA cryptography is a new field which has emerged with progress in the research of DNA computing. In our study, a symmetric-key cryptosystem was designed by applying a modern DNA biotechnology, microarray, into cryptographic technologies. This is referred to as DNA symmetric-key cryptosystem (DNASC). In DNASC, both encryption and decryption keys are formed by DNA probes, while its ciphertext is embedded in a specially designed DNA chip (microarray). The security of this system is mainly rooted in difficult biology processes and problems, rather than conventional computing technology, thus it is unaffected by changes from the attack of the coming quantum computer. The encryption process is a fabrication of a specially designed DNA chip and the decryption process is the DNA hybridization. In DNASC, billions of DNA probes are hybridized and identified at the same time, thus the decryption process is conducted in a massive, parallel way. The great potential in vast parallelism computation and the extraordinary information density of DNA are displayed in DNASC to some degree.LU MingXin1,2*, LAI XueJia3*, XIAO GuoZhen4,2 & QIN Lei5 1 Department of Information Management, Nanjing University, Nanjing 210093, China 2 State Key Lab of Information Security, Institute of Software of Chinese Academy of Science, Beijing 100049, China 3 Department of Computer Science & Engineer, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Shanghai 200030, China 4 State Key Lab of ISN, Xidian University, Xi’an 710071, China 5 Cancer Research Institute, Queen’s University, Kingston, Ontario, K7L3N6, Canada 2007Science in China(Series F)2007,50,3:14

Fractal and Multifractal Modeling of Hydrothermal Mineral Deposit Spectrum: Application to Gold Deposits in Abitibi Area, Ontario, Canada显示文摘A number of fractal/multifractal methods are introduced for quantifying the mineral deposit spectrum which include a number-size model, grade-tonnage model, power spectrum model, multifractal model and an eigenvalue spectrum model. The first two models characterize mineral deposits spectra based on relationships among the measures of mineral deposits. These include the number of deposits, size of deposits, concentration and volume of mineral deposits. The last three methods that deal with the spatial-temporal spectra of mineral deposit studies are all expected to be popularized in near future. A case study of hydrothermal gold deposits from the Abitibi area, a world-class mineral district, is used to demonstrate the principle as well as the applications of methods proposed in this paper. It has been shown that fractal and multifractal models are generally applicable to modeling of mineral deposits and occurrences. Clusters of mineral deposits were identified by several methods including the power spectral analysis, singularity analysis and the eigenvalue analysis. These clusters contain most of the known mineral deposits in the Timmins and Kirkland Lake camps.Cheng Qiuming Department of Earth and Atmospheric Science, Department of Geography, York University, Toronto, Canada M3J1P3 Faculty of Earth Resources, China University of Geosciences, Wuhan 430074 2003Journal of China University of Geosciences2003,14,3:13
A new elliptic-parabolic yield surface model revised by an adaptive criterion for granular soils显示文摘An adaptive criterion for shear yielding as well as shear failure of soils is proposed in this paper to address the fact that most criteria, including the Mohr-Coulomb criterion, the Lade criterion and the Matsuoka-Nakai criterion, cannot agree well with the experimental results when the value of the intermediate principal stress parameter is too big.The new criterion can adjust an adaptive parameter based on the experimental results in order to make the theoretical calculations fit the test results more accurately. The original elliptic-parabolic yield surface model can capture both soil contraction and dilation behaviors. However,it normally over-predicts the soil strength due to its application of the Extended Mises criterion.A new elliptic-parabolic yield surface mode is presented in this paper, which introduces the adaptive criterion in three-dimensional principal stress space. The new model can well model the stress-strain behavior of soils under general stress conditions.Compared to the original model which can only simulate soil behavior under triaxial compression conditions, the new model can simulate soil behaviors under both triaxial compression conditions and general stress conditions.LIU HanLong 1,2 ,XIAO Yang 1,2 ,LIU JinYuan 3 &LI GuoYing 4 1 Key Laboratory of Ministry of Education for Geomechanics and Embankment Engineering,Hohai University, Nanjing 210098,China 2 Geotechnical Research Institute,Hohai University,Nanjing 210098,China 3Department of Civil Engineering,Ryerson University,Toronto,Canada 4 Department of Geotechnical Engineering,Nanjing Hydraulic Research Institute,Nanjing 210014,China 2010Science China(Technological Sciences)2010,53,8:12

Revisiting the origin of modern humans in China and its implications for global human evolution显示文摘The debates over the origin of modern humans have long been centered on two competing theories:the 'Out-of-Africa'(single-place origin) theory and the 'Multi-regional Evolution' theory.China is an extremely important region where many ancient human fossils were collected along with numerous associated faunal remains and artefacts. These cultural remains, unearthed from different areas in the country and covering a long time span, will help clarify the controversy. The study of cultural materials in China is expected to shed important light on biological evolutionary patterns and social and technical developments of those early humans as well as their environmental conditions.Based on the analysis of Chinese fossils and associated materials,in conjunction with some genetic studies, this paper aims at evaluating each of the two theories in order to stimulate more discussions. Our study suggests that the evolutionary model of 'Continuity with Hybridization' is most relevant in reflecting the current understanding of human evolutionary history in China.Furthermore,we propose that the concept of regional diversity of evolutionary models should be seriously considered to illustrate different evolutionary modes applied to different parts of the world.GAO Xing1,2*,ZHANG XiaoLing1,2,3,YANG DongYa2,4,SHEN Chen2,5 & WU XinZhi1,2 1 Institute of Vertebrate Paleontology and Paleoanthropology,Chinese Academy of Sciences,Beijing 100044,China 2 Laboratory of Human Evolution,Chinese Academy of Sciences,Beijing 100044,China 3 Graduate University of Chinese Academy of Sciences,Beijing 100049,China 4 Department of Archaeology,Simon Fraser University,Vancouver V5A 1S6,Canada 5 The Royal Ontario Museum,Toronto M5S 2C6,Canada 2010Science China Earth Sciences2010,53,12:11
Interactive effect of dissolved organic matter and phenanthrene on soil enzymatic activities显示文摘The investigation of dissolved organic matter(DOM) on urease, catalase and polyphenol oxidase activity in a phenanthrene(Phe)contaminated soil was conducted under laboratory incubation conditions.Values of soil enzymatic activity depended mainly on incubation time.In the initial 16 days, urease activity increased, and was followed by a decrease. In the initial 8 days, catalase activity decreased and then increased.Variation of polyphenol oxidase activity was just the reverse of catalase activity. After 30 days of incubation,no pronounced difference among treatments with Phe,Phe and DOM,and control were detected in urease, catalase and polyphenol oxidase activity.Phe might inhibit urease and catalase, and stimulate polyphenol oxidase.DOM could improve inhibition of Phe in soil urease and catalase activity during the initial period of applying DOM.Nevertheless,DOM had no significant effect on polyphenol oxidase activity in the Phe contaminated soil. There was a negative correlation between catalase and polyphenol oxidase(r =-0.761***),and catalase and urease(r =-0.554**).Additionally,a positive correlation between polyphenol oxidase and urease was also detected(r = 0.701***).It is implied that the formed DOM after application of organic wastes into soils may counteract the inhibition of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in soil enzyme activities.Xinhua Zhan,Wenzhu Wu,Lixiang Zhou,Jianru Liang,Tinghui Jiang College of Resources and Environmental Sciences,Nanjing Agricultural University,Nanjing 210095,China.Greenstar Plant Products Inc.,9430 198 St,Langley,BC,Canada V1M3C8. 2010Journal of Environmental Sciences2010,22,4:10
Multifractal Simulation of GeochemicalMap Patterns显示文摘Using a simple multifractal model based on the model De Wijs, various geochemical map patterns for element concentration values are being simulated. Each pattern is self-similar on the average in that a similar pattern can be derived by application of the multiplicative cascade model used to any small subarea on the pattern. In other experiments, the original, self-similar pattern is distorted by superimposing a 2-dimensional trend pattern and by mixing it with a constant concentration value model. It is investigated how such distortions change the multifractal spectrum estimated by means of the 3-step method of moments. Discrete and continuous frequency distribution models are derived for patterns that satisfy the model of De Wijs. These simulated patterns satisfy a discrete frequency distribution model that as upper bound has a continuous frequency distribution to which it approaches in form when the subdivisions of the multiplicative cascade model are repeated indefinitely. This limiting distribution is lognormal in the center and has Pareto tails. Potentially, this approach has important implications in mineral and oil resource evaluation.Agterberg Frederik P Geological Survey of Canada, 601 Booth Street, Ottawa, K1A 0E8, Canada 2001Journal of China University of Geosciences2001,12,1:10
