| 1 | High-intensity focused ultrasound ablation:An effective bridging therapy for hepatocellular carcinoma patients显示文摘AIM:To analyze whether high-intensity focused ultrasound(HIFU) ablation is an effective bridging therapy for patients with hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC).METHODS:From January 2007 to December 2010,49 consecutive HCC patients were listed for liver transplantation(UCSF criteria).The median waiting time for transplantation was 9.5 mo.Twenty-nine patients received transarterial chemoembolization(TACE) as a bringing therapy and 16 patients received no treatment before transplantation.Five patients received HIFU ablation as a bridging therapy.Another five patients with the same tumor staging(within the UCSF criteria) who received HIFU ablation but not on the transplant list were included for comparison.Patients were comparable in terms of Child-Pugh and model for end-stage liver disease scores,tumor size and number,and cause of cirrhosis.RESULTS:The HIFU group and TACE group showed no difference in terms of tumor size and tumor number.One patient in the HIFU group and no patient in the TACE group had gross ascites.The median hospital stay was 1 d(range,1-21 d) in the TACE group and two days(range,1-9 d) in the HIFU group(P < 0.000).No HIFU-related complication occurred.In the HIFU group,nine patients(90%) had complete response and one patient(10%) had partial response to the treatment.In the TACE group,only one patient(3%) had response to the treatment while 14 patients(48%) had stable disease and 14 patients(48%) had progressive disease(P = 0.00).Seven patients in the TACE group and no patient in the HIFU group dropped out from the transplant waiting list(P = 0.559).CONCLUSION:HIFU ablation is safe and effective in the treatment of HCC for patients with advanced cirrhosis.It may reduce the drop-out rate of liver transplant candidate. | Tan To Cheung Sheung Tat Fan See Ching Chan Kenneth SH Chok Ferdinand SK Chu Caroline R Jenkins Regina CL Lo James YY Fung Albert CY Chan William W Sharr Simon HY Tsang Wing Chiu Dai Ronnie TP Poon Chung Mau Lo | 2013 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2013，19，20： | 23 |
| 2 | Transposon mouse models to elucidate the genetic mechanisms of hepatitis B viral induced hepatocellular carcinoma显示文摘The major type of human liver cancer is hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC), and there are currently many risk factors that contribute to this deadly disease. The majority of HCC occurrences are associated with chronic hepatitis viral infection, and hepatitis B viral(HBV) infection is currently a major health problem in Eastern Asia. Elucidating the genetic mechanisms associated with HBV-induced HCC has been difficult due to the heterogeneity and genetic complexity associated with this disease. A repertoire of animal models has been broadly used to study the pathophysiology and to develop potential treatment regimens for HBVassociated HCC. The use of these animal models has provided valuable genetic information and has been an important contributor to uncovering the factors involved in liver malignant transformation, invasion and metastasis. Recently, transposon-based mouse models are becoming more widely used in liver cancer research to interrogate the genome by forward genetics and also used to validate genes rapidly in a reverse genetic manner. Importantly, these transposon-based rapid reverse genetic mouse models could become crucial in testing potential therapeutic agents before proceeding to clinical trials in human. | 3 | “Trends” and variations of global oceanic evaporation data sets from remote sensing显示文摘The variability in global oceanic evaporation data sets was examined for the period 1988-2000.These data sets are satellite estimates based on bulk aerodynamic formulations and include the NASA/Goddard Space Flight Center Satellite-based Surface Turbulent Flux version 2(GSSTF2),the Japanese-ocean flux using remote sensing observations(J-OFURO),and the Hamburg Ocean-Atmosphere Parameters and Fluxes from Satellite version 2(HOAPS2).The National Center for Environmental Prediction(NCEP)reanalysis is also included for comparison.An increase in global average surface latent heat flux(SLHF)can be observed in all the data sets.Empirical mode decomposition(EMD)shows long-term increases that started around 1990 for all remote sensing data sets.The effect of Mt.Pinatubo eruption in 1991 is clearly evident in HOAPS2 but is independent of the long-term increase.Linear regression analyses show increases of 9.4%,13.0%,7.3%,and 3.9% for GSSTF2,J-OFURO,HOAPS2 and NCEP,for the periods of the data sets.Empirical orthogonal function(EOF)analyses show that the pattern of the first EOF of all data sets is consistent with a decadal variation associated with the enhancement of the tropical Hadley circulation,which is supported by other satellite observations.The second EOF of all four data sets is an ENSO mode,and the correlations between their time series and an SOI are 0.74,0.71,0.59,and 0.61 for GSSTF2,J-OFURO,HOAPS2,and NCEP in that order.When the Hadley modes are removed from the remote sensing data,the residue global increases are reduced to 2.2%,7.3%,and <1% for GSSTF2,J-OFURO and HOAPS,respectively.If the ENSO mode is used as a calibration standard for the data sets,the Hadley mode is at least comparable to,if not larger than,the ENSO mode during our study period. | CHIU Long S CHOKNGAMWONG R XING Yukun YANG Ruixin SHIE Chung-Lin | 2008 | Acta Oceanologica Sinica2008，27，3： | 2 |
