1Geochronology and petrogenesis of granitic rocks in Gangdese batholith, southern Tibet显示文摘Based on petrological and geochemical characteristics such as rock assemblage, petrogeochemistry, Sr-Nd isotope, zircon U-Pb age, and Hf isotope, we studied geochronological framework, magma types, source characters, and petrogenesis of different stages of magmatism of the granitic rocks from the Gangdese batholith in southern Tibet. The magmatic activities of the Gangdese batholith can be divided into three stages. The Mesozoic magmatism, induced by northern subduction of Neotethyan slab, was continuously developed, with two peak periods of Late Jurassic and Early Cretaceous. The Paleocene-Eocene magmatism was the most intensive, and resulted from a complex progress of Neotethyan oceanic slab, including subduction, rollback, and subsequent breakoff. And the Oligocene-Miocene magmatism was attributed to the convective removal of thickened lithosphere in an east-west extension setting after India-Asia collision. Isotopically, zircons from these granitic rocks are characterized by positive εHf(t) values, suggesting that the magmatic source of the Gangdese batholith might be an arc terrane, which was accreted to the southern margin of Asia during Late Paleozoic. Therefore, the chronological framework and Hf isotopic characteristics of the Gangdese batholith are distinct from the granitic rocks in adjacent areas, which can be served as a powerful tracer in studying source-to-sink relation of sediments during the uplift and erosion of Tibetan Plateau.JI WeiQiang WU FuYuan LIU ChuanZhou CHUNG SunLin 2009Science China Earth Sciences2009,52,9:89

3香港华人妇女产后抑郁危险因素的前瞻性研究显示文摘目的:产后抑郁是一种常见的精神障碍,对产妇、新生儿和其它家庭成员导致广泛的伤害。产后抑郁的病因学研究大多是基于西方样本,对其中的社会文化原因也缺乏实证研究。本研究从人口学、心理社会及种族文化因素等方面探讨中国妇女产后抑郁症状学的决定因素。方法:在大学附属综合医院产前门诊连续收集登记的中国孕妇959例,从她们第一次产前检查开始评估(基线),以后分别在孕期的最后3个月、产后即刻和产后3个月时评估。调查涉及的危险因素分6个方面:人口学和社会经济背景,躯体疾病及精神疾病病史, 产前抑郁情绪,围生期应激源,人际关系,和种族文化环境。采用等级回归进行分析。因变量是产后3个月时的抑郁评分。结果:决定产后抑郁症状学的因素有:目前的生活事件,缺乏社会支持,婚姻不满意,既往有故意自伤史,以及产前存在抑郁情绪。婆媳关系不好和没有陪月在产后阶段也与抑郁评分高有关联。结论:西方研究所确立的产后抑郁危险因素大体适用于中国妇女。产褥期的社会文化特点同样对产妇情绪有影响。Dominic TS Lee Alexander SK Yip Sandra SM Chan Fiona FY Lee Tony YS Leung Tony KH Chung 2005中国心理卫生杂志2005,19,9:50

6Comparison of scoring systems in predicting the severity of acute pancreatitis显示文摘AIM:To investigate the prognostic usefulness of several existing scoring systems in predicting the severity of acute pancreatitis(AP).METHODS:We retrospectively analyzed the prospectively collected clinical database from consecutive patients with AP in our institution between January 2011 and December 2012.Ranson,Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation(APACHE)-Ⅱ,and bedside index for severity in acute pancreatitis(BISAP)scores,and computed tomography severity index(CTSI)of all patients were calculated.Serum C-reactive protein(CRP)levels were measured at admission(CRPi)and after 24h(CRP24).Severe AP was defined as persistent organ failure for more than 48 h.The predictive accuracy of each scoring system was measured by the area under the receiver-operating curve(AUC).RESULTS:Of 161 patients,21(13%)were classified as severe AP,and 3(1.9%)died.Statistically significant cutoff values for prediction of severe AP were Ranson≥3,BISAP≥2,APACHE-Ⅱ≥8,CTSI≥3,and CRP24≥21.4.AUCs for Ranson,BISAP,APACHE-Ⅱ,CTSI,and CRP24 in predicting severe AP were 0.69(95%CI:0.62-0.76),0.74(95%CI:0.66-0.80),0.78(95%CI:0.70-0.84),0.69(95%CI:0.61-0.76),and0.68(95%CI:0.57-0.78),respectively.APACHE-Ⅱdemonstrated the highest accuracy for prediction of severe AP,however,no statistically significant pairwise differences were observed between APACHE-Ⅱand the other scoring systems,including CRP24.CONCLUSION:Various scoring systems showed similar predictive accuracy for severity of AP.Unique models are needed in order to achieve further improvement of prognostic accuracy.Joon Hyun Cho Tae Nyeun Kim Hyun Hee Chung Kook Hyun Kim 2015World Journal of Gastroenterology2015,21,8:35

88-Hydroxydeoxyguanosine:Not mere biomarker for oxidative stress,but remedy for oxidative stress-implicated gastrointestinal diseases显示文摘Reactive oxygen species (ROS) attack guanine bases in DNA easily and form 8-hydroxydeoxyguanosine (8-OHdG),which can bind to thymidine rather than cytosine,based on which,the level of 8-OHdG is gen-erally regarded as a biomarker of mutagenesis conse-quent to oxidative stress.For example,higher levels of 8-OHdG are noted in Helicobacter pylori-associated chronic atrophic gastritis as well as gastric cancer.However,we have found that exogenous 8-OHdG can paradoxically reduce ROS production,attenuate thenuclear factor-κB signaling pathway,and ameliorate the expression of proinflammatory mediators such as interleukin (IL)-1,IL-6,cyclo-oxygenase-2,and induc-ible nitric oxide synthase in addition to expression of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate oxidase (NOX)-1,NOX organizer-1 and NOX activator-1 in vari-ous conditions of inflammation-based gastrointestinal (GI) diseases including gastritis,inflammatory bowel disease,pancreatitis,and even colitis-associated carci-nogenesis.Our recent finding that exogenous 8-OHdG was very effective in either inflammation-based or oxidative-stress-associated diseases of stress-related mucosal damage has inspired the hope that synthetic 8-OHdG can be a potential candidate for the treatment of inflammation-based GI diseases,as well as the pre-vention of inflammation-associated GI cancer.In this editorial review,the novel fact that exogenous 8-OHdG can be a functional molecule regulating oxidative-stress-induced gastritis through either antagonizing Rac-guanosine triphosphate binding or blocking the signals responsible for gastric inflammatory cascade is introduced.Chan-Young Ock Eun-Hee Kim Duck Joo Choi Ho Jae Lee Ki-Baik Hahm Myung Hee Chung 2012World Journal of Gastroenterology2012,18,4:30

10Analysis of demographic characteristics in 3242 young age gastric cancer patients in Korea显示文摘AIM:To evaluate the epidemiologic features of young age gastric cancer(GC). METHODS:Retrospectively,a total of 3242 patients with GC between 18 and 45 years of age and 3000 sex-and age-matched controls were reviewed.All subjects were stratified into 3 groups based on age (A,18-30 years;B,31-40 years;C,41-45 years). Epidemiologic characteristics and risk factors were investigated with reference to their age and gender. RESULTS:Compared to controls,more frequent intake of high risk diet(P=0.00075),history of heavy smoking(P=0.00087),intake of heavy alcohol(P= 0.00091),lower social economic status(P=0.00083), body mass index>30(P=0.00097),urban residence(P=0.00065),and more frequent exposure to harmful occupational environments(P=0.00072)were observed in all age groups and both genders in young age GC.These relationships were weaker in females compared to males of the same age,and were stronger as the age of patients increased.However,in group C of young age GC patients,environmental factors played important roles in females and males with a similar body weight.In females,older age at first delivery(> 35 years),lack of lactation history,nulliparity,and poor nutritional status during pregnancy were significantly associated with an increased risk of GC(P=0.00034). In this study,252 patients(7.8%)had a family history of GC with high odds ratio(OR)(3.22-4.21).In particular, family history was more closely associated with GC in males(OR,4.21 in male vs 3.46 in female)and more advanced cases(P=0.00051). 13Recent Advances in Cuticular Wax Biosynthesis and Its Regulation in Arabidopsis显示文摘The aerial parts of land plants are covered with cuticular waxes that limit non-stomatal water loss and gaseous exchanges,and protect plants from ultraviolet radiation and pathogen attacks.They are composed of very-long-chain fatty acids (VLCFAs;C20 to C34) in addition to their derivatives,aldehydes,alkanes,primary and secondary alcohols,and wax esters.Due to their physical properties,such as solidity at room temperature and a translucency ranging from transparent to opaque,plant waxes have been used as raw materials in the production of cosmetics,detergents,plastics,soaps,paints,drugs,lubricants,and high-value renewable fuels.Many genes involved in cuticular wax biosynthesis and export have been characterized by forward and reverse genetic approaches as well as by stem epidermis transcriptome analysis.The regulatory mechanisms of cuticular wax biosynthesis have been reported at the transcriptional,posttranscriptional,and translational levels.Recent advances in cuticular wax biosynthesis and its regulation are reviewed in this paper.Saet Buyl Lee Mi Chung Suh 2013Molecular Plant2013,6,2:24
14High-intensity focused ultrasound ablation:An effective bridging therapy for hepatocellular carcinoma patients显示文摘AIM:To analyze whether high-intensity focused ultrasound(HIFU) ablation is an effective bridging therapy for patients with hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC).METHODS:From January 2007 to December 2010,49 consecutive HCC patients were listed for liver transplantation(UCSF criteria).The median waiting time for transplantation was 9.5 mo.Twenty-nine patients received transarterial chemoembolization(TACE) as a bringing therapy and 16 patients received no treatment before transplantation.Five patients received HIFU ablation as a bridging therapy.Another five patients with the same tumor staging(within the UCSF criteria) who received HIFU ablation but not on the transplant list were included for comparison.Patients were comparable in terms of Child-Pugh and model for end-stage liver disease scores,tumor size and number,and cause of cirrhosis.RESULTS:The HIFU group and TACE group showed no difference in terms of tumor size and tumor number.One patient in the HIFU group and no patient in the TACE group had gross ascites.The median hospital stay was 1 d(range,1-21 d) in the TACE group and two days(range,1-9 d) in the HIFU group(P < 0.000).No HIFU-related complication occurred.In the HIFU group,nine patients(90%) had complete response and one patient(10%) had partial response to the treatment.In the TACE group,only one patient(3%) had response to the treatment while 14 patients(48%) had stable disease and 14 patients(48%) had progressive disease(P = 0.00).Seven patients in the TACE group and no patient in the HIFU group dropped out from the transplant waiting list(P = 0.559).CONCLUSION:HIFU ablation is safe and effective in the treatment of HCC for patients with advanced cirrhosis.It may reduce the drop-out rate of liver transplant candidate.Tan To Cheung Sheung Tat Fan See Ching Chan Kenneth SH Chok Ferdinand SK Chu Caroline R Jenkins Regina CL Lo James YY Fung Albert CY Chan William W Sharr Simon HY Tsang Wing Chiu Dai Ronnie TP Poon Chung Mau Lo 2013World Journal of Gastroenterology2013,19,20:23
15Lepidium meyenii (Maca) improved semen parameters in adult men显示文摘Aim: The present study was designed to determine the effect of a 4-month oral treatment with tablets of Lepidium meyenii (Maca) on seminal analysis in nine adult normal men aged 24 - 44 years old. Methods: Nine men received tablets of Maca (1500 or 3000 mg/day) for 4 months. Seminal analysis was performed according to guidelines of the World Health Organization (WHO). Serum luteinizing hormone (LH), follicle stimulating hormone (FSH), prolactin (PRL), testosterone (T) and estradiol (E2) were measured before and after treatment. Results: Treatment with Maca resulted in increased seminal volume, sperm count per ejaculum, motile sperm count, and sperm motility. Serum hormone levels were not modified with Maca treatment. 16Amygdalin inhibits genes related to cell cycle in SNU-C4 human colon cancer cells显示文摘AIM: The genes were divided into seven categories according to biological function; apoptosis-reiated, immune response-related, signal transduction-related, cell cyclerelated, cell growth-related, stress response-related and transcription-related genes.METHODS: We compared the gene expression profiles of SNU-C4 cells between amygdalin-treated (5 mg/mL,24 h) and non-treated groups using cDNA microarray analysis. We selected genes downregulated in cDNA microarray and investigated mRNA levels of the genes by RT-PCR. RESULTS: Microarray showed that amygdalin downregulated especially genes belonging to cell cycle category: exonuclease 1 (EXO1), ATP-binding cassette, sub-family F, member 2 (ABCF2), MRE11 meiotic recombination 11 homolog A (MRE114), topoisomerase (DNA) I (TOP1), and FK506 binding protein 12-rapamycin-associated protein 1 (FRAP1). 18Diverse Functions of VDUP1 in Cell Proliferation,Differentiation,and Diseases显示文摘Vitamin D3 up-regulated protein 1 (VDUP1) is a multifunctional protein involved in maintaining cellular homeostasis. VDUP1 is induced by a variety of stresses. Inversely,VDUP1 is often reduced in various tumor tissues and cell lines. Over-expression of VDUP1 inhibits cell proliferation through cell cycle arrest. VDUP1 interacts with thioredoxin (Trx) and negatively regulates the expression and antioxidant function of Trx which is involved in redox regulation. VDUP1-/-mice are more susceptible to carcinogenesis than wild-type mice and are defective in establishing immune system including the development and function of natural killer cells. Furthermore,VDUP1-/-mice show impaired Kreb cycle-mediated fatty acid utilization. 19The CONSTANS-like 4 transcription factor,AtCOL_4,positively regulates abiotic stress tolerance through an abscisic acid-dependent manner in Arabidopsis显示文摘The precise roles of the B-box zinc finger family of transcription factors in plant stress are poorly understood.Functional analysis was performed on AtCOL4,an Arabidopsis thaliana L.CONSTANS-like 4 protein that is a putative novel transcription factor,and which contains a predicted transcriptional activation domain.Analyses of an AtCOL4 promoter-b-glucuronidase(GUS) construct revealed substantial GUS activity in whole seedlings.The expression of AtCOL4 was strongly induced by abscisic acid(ABA),salt,and osmotic stress.Mutation in atcol4 resulted in increased sensitivity to ABA and salt stress during seed germination and the cotyledon greening process.In contrast,AtCOL4-overexpressing plants were less sensitive to ABA and salt stress compared to the wild type.Interestingly,in the presence of ABA or salt stress,the transcript levels of other ABA biosynthesis and stress-related genes were enhanced induction in AtCOL4-overexpressing and WT plants,rather than in the atcol4 mutant.Thus,AtCOL4 is involved in ABA and salt stress response through the ABA-dependent signaling pathway.Taken together,these findings provide compelling evidence that AtCOL4 is an important regulator for plant tolerance to abiotic stress.Ji-Hee Min Jung-Sung Chung Kyeong-Hwan Lee Cheol Soo Kim 2015Journal of Integrative Plant Biology2015,57,3:23
20Role of the tumor microenvironment in the pathogenesis of gastric carcinoma显示文摘Gastric carcinoma(GC)is the 4thmost prevalent cancer and has the 2ndhighest cancer-related mortality rate worldwide.Despite the incidence of GC has decreased over the past few decades,it is still a serious health problem.Chronic inflammatory status of the stomach,caused by the infection of Helicobacter pylori(H.pylori)and through the production of inflammatory mediators within the parenchyma is suspected to play an important role in the initiation and progression of GC.In this review,the correlation between chronic inflammation and H.pylori infection as an important factor for the development of GC will be discussed.Major components,including tumor-associated macrophages,lymphocytes,cancer-associated fibroblasts,angiogenic factors,cytokines,and chemokines of GC microenvironment and their mechanism of action on signaling pathways will also be discussed.Increasing our understanding of how the components of the tumor microenviroment interact with GC cells and the signaling pathways involved could help identify new therapeutic and chemopreventive targets.Hye Won Chung Jong-Baeck Lim 2014World Journal of Gastroenterology2014,20,7:23
