1Round Top Mountain rhyolite(Texas, USA), a massive, unique Y-bearing-fluorite-hosted heavy rare earth element(HREE) deposit显示文摘Round Top Mountain in Hudspeth County, west Texas, USA is a surface-exposed rhyolite intrusion enriched in Y and heavy rare earth elements(HREEs), as well as Nb, Ta, Be, Li, F, Sn, Rb, Th, and U. The massive tonnage, estimated at well over 1 billion tons, of the deposit makes it a target for recovery of valuable yttrium and HREEs(YHREEs), and possibly other scarce elements. Because of the extremely fine grain size of the mineralized rhyolite matrix, it has not been clear which minerals host the YHREEs and in what proportions. REE-bearing minerals reported in the deposit included bastn site-Ce, Y-bearing fluorite, xenotime-Y, zircon, aeschynite-Ce, a Ca-Th-Pb fluoride, and possibly ancylite-La and cerianite-Ce. Extended X-ray absorption fine structure(EXAFS) indicated that virtually all of the yttrium, a proxy for the HREEs, resided in a coordination in the fluorite-type crystal structure, rather than those in the structures of bastn site-Ce and xenotime-Y. The YREE grade of the Round Top deposit was just over 0.05%, with 72% of this consisting of YHREEs. This grade was in the range of the South China ionic clay deposits that supply essentially all of the world's YHREEs. Because the host Y-bearing fluorite is soluble in dilute sulfuric acid at room temperature, a heap leaching of the deposit appeared feasible, aided by the fact that 90%–95% of the rock consists of unreactive and insoluble feldspars and quartz. 2Bacteriophages and Lysins in Biofilm Control显示文摘To formulate the optimal strategy of combatting bacterial biofilms,in this review we update current knowledge on the growing problem of biofilm formation and its resistance to antibiotics which has spurred the search for new strategies to deal with this complication.Based on recent findings,the role of bacteriophages in the prevention and elimination of biofilm-related infections has been emphasized.In vitro,ex vivo and in vivo biofilm treatment models with single bacteriophages or phage cocktails have been compared.A combined use of bacteriophages with antibiotics in vitro or in vivo confirms earlier reports of the synergistic effect of these agents in improving biofilm removal.Furthermore,studies on the application of phage-derived lysins in vitro,ex vivo or in vivo against biofilm-related infections are encouraging.The strategy of combined use of phage and antibiotics seems to be different from using lysins and antibiotics.These findings suggest that phages and lysins alone or in combination with antibiotics may be an efficient weapon against biofilm formation in vivo and ex vivo,which could be useful in formulating novel strategies to combat bacterial infections.Those findings proved to be relevant in the prevention and destruction of biofilms occurring during urinary tract infections,orthopedic implant-related infections,periodontal and peri-implant infections.In conclusion,it appears that most efficient strategy of eliminating biofilms involves phages or lysins in combination with antibiotics,but the optimal scheme of their administration requires further studies.Marzanna Lusiak-Szelachowska Beata Weber-Dabrowska Andrzej Gorski 2020Virologica Sinica2020,35,2:11

6Impact of cardiac magnet resonance imaging on management of ventricular septal rupture after acute myocardial infarction显示文摘A 74-year-old man was admitted to the cardiac catheterization laboratory with acute myocardial infarction. After successful angioplasty and stent implantation into the right coronary artery, he developed cardiogenic shock the following day. Echocardiography showed ventricular septal rupture. Cardiac magnet resonance imaging (MRI) was performed on the critically ill patient and provided detailed information on size and localization of the ruptured septum by the use of fast MRI sequences. Moreover, the MRI revealed that the ventricular septal rupture was within the myocardial infarction area, which was substantially larger than the rupture. As the patient's condition worsened, he was intubated and had intra-aortic balloon pump implanted, and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation was initiated. During the following days, the patient's situation improved, and surgical correction of the ventricular septal defect could successfully be performed.
