| 3 | Does Helicobacter pylori infection play a role in iron deficiency anemia? | 5 | Effectiveness of Different Waist Circumference Cut-off Values in Predicting Metabolic Syndrome Prevalence and Risk Factors in Adults in China显示文摘Objective To study the effectiveness of waist circumference cut-off values in predicting the prevalence of metabolic syndrome(MetS) and risk factors in adults in China. Methods A cross-sectional survey was condcuted in 14 provinces(autonomous region, municipality) in China. A total of 47 325 adults aged ≥20 years were selected by multistage stratified sampling, and questionnaire survey and physical and clinical examination were conducted among them. MetS was defined according to the International Diabetes Federation(IDF) criteria and modified IDF criteria.Results The age-standardized prevalence of MetS was 24.2%(22.1% in men and 25.8% in women) and 19.5%(22.1% in men and 18.0% in women) according to the IDF criteria and modified IDF criteria respectively. The age-standardized prevalence of pre-MetS was 8.1%(8.6% in men and 7.8% in women) according to the modified IDF criteria. The prevalence of MetS was higher in urban residents than rural residents and in northern China residents than in southern China residents. The prevalence of central obesity was about 30% in both men and women according to the ethnicity-specific cut-off values of waist circumference for central obesity(90 cm for men and 85 cm for women). Multivariate regression analysis revealed no significant difference in risk factors between the two MetS definitions. | 6 | Surgical approaches for stage Ⅰ and Ⅱ thymoma-associated myasthenia gravis:feasibility of complete video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) thymectomy in comparison with trans-sternal resection显示文摘Complete resection could be achieved in virtually all myasthenic patients with Masaoka stage Ⅰ and Ⅱ thymoma using the trans-sternal technique.Whether this is appropriate for minimally invasive approach is not yet clear.We evaluated the feasibility of complete video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) thymectomy for the treatment of Masaoka stage Ⅰ and Ⅱ thymoma-associated myasthenia gravis,compared to conventional trans-sternal thymectomy.We summarized 33 patients with Masaoka stage Ⅰ and Ⅱ thymoma-associated myasthenia gravis between April 2006 and September 2011.Of these,15 patients underwent right-sided complete VATS (the VATS group) by using adjuvant pneuomomediastinum,comparing with 18 patients using the trans-sternal approach (the T3b group).No intraoperative death was found and no VATS case required conversion to median sternotomy.Significant differences between the two groups regarding duration of surgery and volume of intraoperative blood loss (P=0.001 and P < 0.001,respectively) were observed.Postoperative morbidities were 26.7% and 33.3% for the VATS and T3b groups,respectively.All 33 patients were followed up for 12 to 61 months in the study.The cumulative probabilities of reaching complete stable remission and effective rate were 26.7% (4/15) and 93.3% (14/15) in the VATS group,which had a significantly higher complete stable remission and effective rate than those in the T3b group (P=0.026 and P=0.000,respectively).We conclude that VATS thymectomy utilizing adjuvant pneuomomediastinum for the treatment of stage Ⅰ and Ⅱ thymoma-associated myasthenia gravis is technically feasible but deserves further investigation in a large series with long-term follow-up. | Zhicheng He Quan Zhu Wei Wen Liang Chen Hai Xu Hai Li | 2013 | The Journal of Biomedical Research2013,27,1: | 15 |

| 8 | Effect of heparin on apoptosis in human nasopharyngeal carcinoma CNE2 cells显示文摘In order to study the mechanism of the effect of heparin on apoptosis in carcinoma cells, the nasopharyngeal carcinoma cell line CNE2 was used to identify the effect of heparin on apoptosis associated with the expression of c-myc, bax, bcl-2 proteins by use of Hoechst 33258 staining, terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated dUTP nick-end labeling (TUNEL), agarose gel electrophoresis, and flow cytometry, as well as Western blot analysis. The results showed that heparin induced apoptosis of CNE2 cells including the morphologic changes such as reduction in the volume, and the nuclear chromatin condensation, as well as the “ladder pattern” revealed by agarose gel electrophoresis of DNA in a concentration-dependent manner.The number of TUNEL-positive cells was dramatically increased to 33.6±1.2% from 2.8±0.3% by treat ment with heparin in different concentrations (10~40 kU/L). The apoptotic index was increased to 32.5% from 3.5% by detecting SubG1 peaks on flow cytometry. | 9 | Autophagy Accompanied with Bisdemethoxycurcumin-induced Apoptosis in Non-small Cell Lung Cancer Cells显示文摘Objective To investigate the effects of bisdemethoxycurcumin(BDMC) on non-small cell lung cancer(NSCLC) cell line, A549, and the highly metastatic lung cancer 95 D cells. Methods CCK-8 assay was used to assess the effect of BDMC on cytotoxicity. Flow cytometry was used to evaluate apoptosis. Western blot analysis, electron microscopy, and quantification of GFP-LC3 punctuates were used to test the effect of BDMC on autophagy and apoptosis of lung cancer cells. Results BDMC inhibited the viability of NSCLC cells, but had no cytotoxic effects on lung small airway epithelial cells(SAECs). The apoptotic cell death induced by BDMC was accompanied with the induction of autophagy in NSCLC cells. Blockage of autophagy by the autophagy inhibitor 3-methyladenine(3-MA) repressed the growth inhibitory effects and induction of apoptosis by BDMC. In addition, BDMC treatment significantly decreased smoothened(SMO) and the transcription factor glioma-associated oncogene 1(Gli1) expression. Furthermore, depletion of Gli1 by si RNA and cyclopamine(a specific SMO inhibitor) induced autophagy. Conclusion Aberrant activation of Hedgehog(Hh) signaling has been implicated in several human cancers, including lung cancers. | 10 | Relationship between Maternal PBMC HBV cccDNA and HBV Serological Markers and its Effect on HBV Intrauterine Transmission显示文摘Objective To investigate the relationship between maternal peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) hepatitis B virus(HBV) covalenty closed circular deoxyribonucleic acid(cccDNA) and other HBV serological markers and its effects on HBV intrauterine transmission. Methods We enrolled 290 newborns and their hepatitis B surface antigen(HBsAg) positive mothers. HBV cccDNA in PBMC and HBV DNA in serum were detected by a real‐time PCR‐TaqM an probe while HBV serological markers were detected with an electrochemiluminescence immunoassay. Results There was a positive correlation between the levels of PBMC HBV cccD NA and serum HBV DNA and HBeA g(r = 0.436 and 0.403, P < 0.001). The detection rate of pattern A [‘HBsA g(+), HBeA g(+), and anti‐HBc(+)’] was significantly higher in the PBMC HBV cccD NA positive group than in the control group(χ^2 = 48.48, P < 0.001). There was a significant association between HBV intrauterine transmission and PBMC HBV cccD NA(χ^2 = 9.28, P = 0.002). In the presence of serum HBV DNA, HBeA g, and PBMC HBV cccD NA, the risk of HBV intrauterine transmission was three times higher(OR = 3.69, 95% CI: 1.30‐10.42) than that observed in their absence. The risk of HBV intrauterine transmission was the greatest(OR = 5.89, 95% CI: 2.35‐14.72) when both PBMC HBV cccD NA and pattern A were present. A Bayesian network model showed that maternal PBMC HBV cccD NA was directly related to HBV intrauterine transmission. Conclusion PBMC HBV cccDNA may be a direct risk factor for HBV intrauterine transmission. | 11 | Association of Overlapped and Un-overlapped Comorbidities with COVID-19 Severity and Treatment Outcomes: A Retrospective Cohort Study from Nine Provinces in China显示文摘Objective Several COVID-19 patients have overlapping comorbidities. The independent role of each component contributing to the risk of COVID-19 is unknown, and how some non-cardiometabolic comorbidities affect the risk of COVID-19 remains unclear.Methods A retrospective follow-up design was adopted. A total of 1,160 laboratory-confirmed patients were enrolled from nine provinces in China. Data on comorbidities were obtained from the patients’ medical records. Multivariable logistic regression models were used to estimate the odds ratio(OR) and 95% confidence interval(95% CI) of the associations between comorbidities(cardiometabolic or non-cardiometabolic diseases), clinical severity, and treatment outcomes of COVID-19.Results Overall, 158(13.6%) patients were diagnosed with severe illness and 32(2.7%) had unfavorable outcomes. Hypertension(2.87, 1.30–6.32), type 2 diabetes(T2 DM)(3.57, 2.32–5.49),cardiovascular disease(CVD)(3.78, 1.81–7.89), fatty liver disease(7.53, 1.96–28.96), hyperlipidemia(2.15, 1.26–3.67), other lung diseases(6.00, 3.01–11.96), and electrolyte imbalance(10.40, 3.00–26.10)were independently linked to increased odds of being severely ill. T2 DM(6.07, 2.89–12.75), CVD(8.47,6.03–11.89), and electrolyte imbalance(19.44, 11.47–32.96) were also strong predictors of unfavorable outcomes. Women with comorbidities were more likely to have severe disease on admission(5.46,3.25–9.19), while men with comorbidities were more likely to have unfavorable treatment outcomes(6.58, 1.46–29.64) within two weeks.Conclusion Besides hypertension, diabetes, and CVD, fatty liver disease, hyperlipidemia, other lung diseases, and electrolyte imbalance were independent risk factors for COVID-19 severity and poor treatment outcome. | 15 | Effect of processing parameters on the microstructure and thermal conductivity of diamond/Ag composites fabricated by spark plasma sintering显示文摘Diamond/metal composites with 50 vol.% diamond have been produced by spark plasma sintering(SPS) using pure Ag as a matrix and diamond particles as reinforcement.Three kinds of powder mixing processes were used to prepare the mixture of diamond/Ag powders:dry mixing without milling medium,wet mixing and magnetic blending.Subsequently,they were all consolidated by SPS at various processing parameters to produce bulk diamond/Ag composites.Then samples were heat treated in order to obtain a higher thermal conductivity.The effect of processing parameters on the morphologies of the mixed powders,the microstructure and the thermal conductivity of the composites were investigated by comparing the experimental data.It reveals that particles were easy to agglomerate and the distribution of mixed powders was inhomogeneous by dry mixing method,and wet mixing method is too complex.The most favorable mixing process is magnetic blending by which the powders can be homogenously mixed and the composites prepared by optimized SPS processing parameters can obtain the highest relative density and the best thermal conductivity among the composites prepared by different processes.The magnetic blending diamond/Ag composites even have a 23% increase in thermal conductivity compared with pure silver sintered by SPS. | GAO Wenjia,JIA Chengchang,JIA Xian,LIANG Xuebing,CHU Ke,ZHANG Luman,HUANG Hai,and LIU Meng School of Materials Science and Engineering,University of Science and Technology Beijing,Beijing 100083,China | 2010 | Rare Metals2010,29,6: | 6 |
| 16 | Orbital-scale Asian summer monsoon variations:Paradox and exploration显示文摘The Asian summer monsoon(ASM) is a vast climate system, whose variability is critical to the livelihoods of billions of people across the Asian continent. During the past half-century, much progress has been made in understanding variations on a wide range of timescales, yet several significant issues remain unresolved. Of note are two long-standing problems concerning orbital-scale variations of the ASM.(1) Chinese loess magnetic susceptibility records show a persistent glacial-interglacial dominated ~100 kyr(thousand years) periodicity, while the cave oxygen-isotope(δ18 O) records reveal periodicity in an almost pure precession band(~20 kyr periodicity)—the 'Chinese 100 kyr problem'.(2) ASM records from the Arabian Sea and other oceans surrounding the Asian continent show a significant lag of 8–10 kyr to Northern Hemisphere summer insolation(NHSI), whereas the Asian cave δ18 O records follow NHSI without a significant lag—a discrepancy termed the 'sea-land precession-phase paradox'. How can we reconcile these differences? Recent and more refined model simulations now provide spatial patterns of rainfall and wind across the precession cycle, revealing distinct regional divergences in the ASM domain, which can well explain a large portion of the disparities between the loess, marine, and cave proxy records. Overall, we also find that the loess, marine, and cave records are indeed complementary rather than incompatible, with each record preferentially describing a certain aspect of ASM dynamics. | 20 | Alterations of brain local functional connectivity in amnestic mild cognitive impairment显示文摘Background:Resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging studies using a regional homogeneity(ReHo)method have reported that amnestic mild cognitive impairment(aMCI)was associated with abnormalities in local functional connectivity.However,their results were not conclusive.Methods:Seed-based d Mapping was used to conduct a coordinate-based meta-analysis to identify consistent ReHo alterations in aMCI.Results:We identified 10 studies with 11 datasets suitable for inclusion,including 378 patients with aMCI and 435 healthy controls.This meta-analysis identified significant ReHo alterations in patients with aMCI relative to healthy controls,mainly within the default mode network(DMN)(bilateral posterior cingulate cortex[PCC],right angular gyrus,bilateral middle temporal gyri,and left parahippocampal gyrus/hippocampus),executive control network(right superior parietal lobule and dorsolateral prefrontal cortex),visual network(right lingual gyrus and left middle occipital gyrus),and sensorimotor network(right paracentral lobule/supplementary motor area,right postcentral gyrus and left posterior insula).Significant heterogeneity of ReHo alterations in the bilateral PCC,left parahippocampal gyrus/hippocampus,and right superior parietal lobule/angular gyrus was observed.Exploratory meta-regression analyses indicated that general cognitive function,gender distribution,age,and education level partially contributed to this heterogeneity.Conclusions:This study provides provisional evidence that aMCI is associated with abnormal ReHo within the DMN,executive control network,visual network,and sensorimotor network.These local functional connectivity alterations suggest coexistence of functional deficits and compensation in these networks.These findings contribute to the modeling of brain functional connectomes and to a better understanding of the neural substrates of aMCI.Confounding factors merit much attention and warrant future investigations. | Dan Zheng Wei Xia Zhong Quan Yi Pan Wen Zhao Jian Guo Zhong Hai Cun Shi Hua Liang Li Zhen Yu Dai Ping Lei Pan | 2018 | Translational Neurodegeneration2018,7,1: | 5 |
