1Effects of Enriched Biochars Containing Magnetic Iron Nanoparticles on Mycorrhizal Colonisation,Plant Growth,Nutrient Uptake and Soil Quality Improvement显示文摘At present, there is little commercial sale of biochar, since farmers find they can not gain a return on their investment in this amendment in the first few years after its application, because of the high cost associated with large application rates. To overcome this constraint, development of artificially aged enriched biochar-mineral complexes(BMCs), having a higher mineral content, surface functionality, exchangeable cations, high concentration of magnetic iron(Fe) nanoparticles, and higher water-extractable organic compounds has been undertaken by a combined team of researchers and a commercial company. Two biochars produced under different pyrolysis conditions were activated with a phosphoric acid treatment. A mixture of clay, chicken litter, and minerals were added to the biochar, and then this composite was torrefied at either 180 or 220?C. In this study a pot experiment was carried out in glasshouse conditions to determine the effects of four different BMCs, with different formulations applied at rates of 100 and 200 kg ha-1, on the mycorrhizal colonisation, wheat growth and nutrient uptake, and soil quality improvement. It was found that the phosphorus(P) and nitrogen uptake in wheat shoots were significantly greater for a low application rate of BMCs(100 kg ha-1). The present formulation of BMC was effective in enhancing growth of wheat at low application rate(100 kg ha-1). 2Effects of transferrin on the growth and proliferation of porcine hepatocytes:a comparison with epidermal growth factor and nicotinamide显示文摘Objective To seek an appropriate culture condition in which porcine hepatocytes can continuously proliferate and express their normal differentiation phenotypes for a longer period of time. Methods Different types and dosages of reagents,transferrin,epidermal growth factor and nicotinamide were used to culture porcine hepatocytes in serum-free Dulbecco’s modified Eagle’s medium (DMEM). And the proliferative effects and functions of the cells were detected at different culture times. Results Transferrin at 5 ng/ml,nicotinamide at 10 mmol/L and epidermal growth factor at 10 ng/ml had better effects on the viability of hepatocytes than DMEM,DMEM+10% fetal cattle serum FCS and other dosages of these reagents ( P <0.05). OD values of MTS were still high in culture at day 7 and day 10,while nearly 30%-35% cells went into the S phase. Good hepatocyte funcitons were found in these groups,and the secretion of albumin was positively correlated with OD value of MTS. 3Evaluation of mercury biogeochemical cycling at the sediment–water interface in anthropogenically modified lagoon environments显示文摘The Marano and Grado Lagoon is well known for being contaminated by mercury(Hg) from the Idrija mine(Slovenia) and the decommissioned chlor-alkali plant of Torviscosa(Italy).Experimental activities were conducted in a local fish farm to understand Hg cycling at the sediment–water interface. Both diffusive and benthic fluxes were estimated in terms of chemical and physical features. Mercury concentration in sediments(up to 6.81 μg/g)showed a slight variability with depth, whereas the highest methylmercury(MeHg) values(up to 10 ng/g) were detected in the first centimetres. MeHg seems to be produced and stored in the 2–3 cm below the sediment–water interface, where sulphate reducing bacteria activity occurs and hypoxic–anoxic conditions become persistent for days. DMeHg in porewaters varied seasonally(from 0.1 and 17% of dissolved Hg(DHg)) with the highest concentrations in summer. DHg diffusive effluxes higher(up to 444 ng/m^2/day) than those reported in the open lagoon(~ 95 ng/m^2/day), whereas DMeHg showed influxes in the fish farm(up to-156 ng/m^2/day). The diurnal DHg and DMeHg benthic fluxes were found to be higher than the highest summer values previously reported for the natural lagoon environment. Bottom sediments, especially in anoxic conditions, seem to be a significant source of MeHg in the water column where it eventually accumulates. However, net fluxes considering the daily trend of DHg and DMeHg, indicated possible DMeHg degradation processes. 5Pentadecapeptide BPC 157 resolves suprahepatic occlusion of the inferior caval vein, Budd-Chiari syndrome model in ratsPentadecapeptide BPC 157 resolves suprahepatic occlusion of the inferior caval vein, Budd-Chiari syndrome model in rats显示文摘BACKGROUND Recently,as a possible therapy resolving solution,pentadecapeptide BPC 157 therapy,has been used in alleviating various vascular occlusion disturbances.BPC 157 was previously reviewed as novel mediator of Robert cytoprotection and endothelium protection in the stomach,and gut-brain axis,beneficial therapy in gastrointestinal tract,with particular reference to vascular recruitment,ulcerative colitis and tumor cachexia,and other tissues healing.Here we raised new hypothesis about BPC 157 therapy in the Budd-Chiari syndrome in rats,rapid bypassing of the suprahepatic inferior caval vein occlusion,and rats recovery with the active and effective pharmacotherapy treatment.AIM To investigate Budd-Chiari syndrome model(inferior caval vein suprahepatic occlusion)resolution,since BPC 157 resolves various rat vascular occlusion.METHODS We assessed the activated bypassing pathways between the inferior and superior caval veins and portocaval shunt,counteracted caval/portal hypertension,aortal hypotension,venous/arterial thrombosis,electrocardiogram disturbances,liver and gastrointestinal lesions(i.e.,stomach and duodenum hemorrhages,in particular,congestion).Rats with suprahepatic occlusion of the inferior vena cava by ligation were medicated at 1 min,15 min,24 h,or 48 h post-ligation.Medication consisted of 10μg/kg BPC 157,10 ng BPC 157 or 5 m L/kg saline,administered once as an abdominal bath or intragastric application.Gross and microscopic observations were made,in addition to assessments of electrical activity of the heart(electrocardiogram),portal and caval hypertension,aortal hypotension,thrombosis,hepatomegaly,splenomegaly and venography.Furthermore,levels of nitric oxide,malondialdehyde in the liver and serum enzymes were determined.RESULTS BPC 157 counteracted increased P wave amplitude,tachycardia and ST-elevation,i.e.,right heart failure from acute thrombotic coronary occlusion.The bypassing pathway of the inferior vena cava-azygos(hemiazygos)vein-superior vena cava and portocaval shunt occurred rapidly.Even with severe caval portal hypertension,BPC 157 antagonized portal and caval hypertension and aortal hypotension,and also reduced refractory ascites.Thrombosis of portal vein tributaries,inferior vena cava,and hepatic and coronary arteries was attenuated.In addition,there was reduced pathology of the lungs(severe capillary congestion)and liver(dilated central veins and terminal portal venules),decreased intestine hemorrhagic lesions(substantial capillary congestion,submucosal edema and architecture loss),and increased liver and spleen weight.During the period of ligation,nitric oxide-and malondialdehyde-levels in the liver remained within normal healthy values,and increases in serum enzymes were markedly reduced.CONCLUSION BPC 157 counteracts Budd Chiari syndrome in rats.Slaven Gojkovic Ivan Krezic Borna Vrdoljak Dominik Malekinusic Ivan Barisic andreja Petrovic Katarina Horvat Pavlov Marijan Kolovrat Antonija Duzel Mario Knezevic Katarina Kasnik Kovac Domagoj Drmic Lovorka Batelja Vuletic Antonio Kokot Alenka Boban Blagaic Sven Seiwerth Predrag Sikiric 2020World Journal of Gastrointestinal Pathophysiology2020,11,1:2
