| 2 | Targeted therapy of gastrointestinal stromal tumours显示文摘Gastrointestinal stromal tumours(GISTs) are mesen-chymal neoplasms originating in the gastrointestinal tract, usually in the stomach or the small intestine, and rarely elsewhere in the abdomen. The malignant potential of GISTs is variable ranging from small lesions with a benign behaviour to fatal sarcomas. The majo-rity of the tumours stain positively for the CD-117(KIT) and discovered on GIST-1(DOG-1 or anoctamin 1) expression, and they are characterized by the presence of a driver kinase-activating mutation in either KIT or platelet-derived growth factor receptor α. Although surgery is the primary modality of treatment, almost half of the patients have disease recurrence following surgery, which highlights the need for an effective adjuvant therapy. Traditionally, GISTs are considered chemotherapy and radiotherapy resistant. With the advent of targeted therapy(tyrosine kinase inhibitors), there has been a paradigm shift in the management of GISTs in the last decade. | 3 | Preoperative therapy in locally advanced esophageal cancer显示文摘Esophageal cancer is an aggressive malignancy associated with dismal treatment outcomes. Presence of two distinct histopathological types distinguishes it from other gastrointestinal tract malignancies. Surgery is the cornerstone of treatment in locally advanced esophageal cancer(T2 or greater or node positive); however, a high rate of disease recurrence(systemic and loco-regional) and poor survival justifies a continued search for optimal therapy. Various combinations of multimodality treatment(preoperative/perioperative, or postoperative; radiotherapy, chemotherapy, or chemoradiotherapy) are being explored to lower disease recurrence and improve survival. Preoperative therapy followed by surgery is presently considered the standard of care in resectable locally advanced esophageal cancer as postoperative treatment may not be feasible for all the patients due to the morbidity of esophagectomy and prolonged recovery time limiting the tolerance of patient. There are wide variations in the preoperative therapy practiced across the centres depending upon the institutional practices, availability of facilities and personal experiences. There is paucity of literature to standardize the preoperative therapy. Broadly, chemoradiotherapy is the preferred neo-adjuvant modality in western countries whereas chemotherapy alone is considered optimal in the far East. | 4 | Laser Direct Metal Deposition Technology and Microstructure and Composition Segregation of Inconel 718 Superalloy显示文摘Multilayer of laser direct metal deposition(DMD)was prepared by depositing a gas atomized pre-alloyed powder with a composition close to Inconel 718 alloy on Inconel 718 high temperature alloy substrate.The effects of the DMD parameters on the build-up rate and the structure of the deposited layer were studied.The laser DMD sample was further processed by a solution treatment.The microstructure and property of the laser DMD zone before and after heat treatment were investigated as well.The results show that the laser parameters of actual laser power of 650 W,scanning speed of 5.8 mm/s,beam diameter of 1 mm,powder feed rate of 6.45 g/min,with a corresponding specific energy of 90-130 J/mm2,can be recommended as optimum parameters for high build-up rate of Inconel 718 alloy.Under the condition of optimized parameters,a directional solidification microstructure was obtained and the average distance between the columnar crystals was 5-10 μm.The microcomposition segregation was found between the columnar crystal trunk and columnar crystal.The elements of Nb,Mo,Ti concentrated in the columnar crystal trunk.After the heat treatment,the segregation was greatly minimized,and the segregation ratios were close to 1.The hardness of the laser deposited layer did not show obvious difference along the height of the layer either for the as-deposited layer or for the heat treated layer.However,the microhardness of the laser DMD zone after heat treatment was obviously higher than that after the as-deposited treatment.During the heat treatment process,some Nb-and Mo-rich phases precipitated and strengthened DMD layer. | ZHANG Qun-li YAO Jian-hua Jyoti Mazurnder | 2011 | Journal of Iron and Steel Research(International)2011,18,4: | 12 |
| 5 | Effects of Tillage Practices and Land Use Management on Soil Aggregates and Soil Organic Carbon in the North Appalachian Region,USA显示文摘Promoting soil carbon sequestration in agricultural land is one of the viable strategies to decelerate the observed climate changes.However,soil physical disturbances have aggravated the soil degradation process by accelerating erosion.Thus,reducing the magnitude and intensity of soil physical disturbance through appropriate farming/agricultural systems is essential to management of soil carbon sink capacity of agricultural lands.Four sites of different land use types/tillage practices,i) nc-till(NT) corn(Zea mays L.)(NTC),ii) conventional till(CT) corn(CTC),iii) pastureland(PL),and iv) native forest(NF),were selected at the North Appalachian Experimental Watershed Station,Ohio,USA to assess the impact of NT farming on soil aggregate indices including water-stable aggregation,mean weight diameter(MWD) and geometric mean diameter(GMD),and soil organic carbon and total nitrogen contents.The NTC plots received cow manure additions(about 15 t ha^(-1)) every other year.The CTC plots involved disking and chisel ploughing and liquid fertilizer application(110 L ha^(-1)).The results showed that both water-stable aggregation and MWD were greater in soil for NTC than for CTC.In the 0-10 cm soil layer,the > 4.75-mm size fraction dominated NTC and was 46%more than that for CTC,whereas the < 0.25-mm size fraction was 380%more for CTC than for NTC.The values of both MWD and GMD in soil for NTC(2.17 mm and 1.19 mm,respectively) were higher than those for CTC(1.47 and 0.72 mm,respectively) in the 0-10 cm soil layer.Macroaggregates contained 6%-42%and 13%-43%higher organic carbon and total nitrogen contents,respectively,than microaggregates in soil for all sites.Macroaggregates in soil for NTC contained 40%more organic carbon and total nitrogen over microaggregates in soil for CTC.Therefore,a higher proportion of microaggregates with lower organic carbon contents created a carbon-depleted environment for CTC.In contrast,soil for NTC had more aggregation and contained higher organic carbon content within water-stable aggregates.The soil organic carbon and total nitrogen stocks(Mg ha^(-1)) among the different sites followed the trend of NF > PL > NTC > CTC,being 35%-46%more for NTC over CTC.The NT practice enhanced soil organic carbon content over the CT practice and thus was an important strategy of carbon sequestration in cropland soils. | Arun Jyoti NATH Rattan LAL | 2017 | Pedosphere2017,27,1: | 11 |

Lateral Circumflex Femoral Artery(LCFA) isan important branch of Profunda Femoris artery and precise knowledge of its variations can be of great relevance during surgical and radiological procedures in femoral region. The present study reports a unique case of anomalous route taken by LCFA posterior to femoral nerve associated with a prominent muscular branch from Femoral artery mimicking the course of LCFA. Documentation of such variations is highly significant. It may serve as guideline for surgeons in reducing the incidence of postoperative complications where LCFA is used as a long vascular pedicle in anterolateral perforator thigh flap and in breast reconstruction after mastectomy. | 13 | Influence of heat treatment on the structural and optical properties of SrGd_2O_4:Eu^(3+) phosphor显示文摘Novel red emitting Eu3+ doped SrGd2O4 phosphors were synthesized by homogeneous precipitation method followed by a subsequent combustion process at various temperatures. A systematic study on the consequent structural evolution and optical properties were investigated as a function of various processing temperatures. With the enhancement of processing temperature, SrGd2O4 phosphor showed a gradual transformation from a mixed phase to monophasic nature, with minimized volatile impurities. The microscopic images exhibited homogeneous aggregates of varying shapes and sizes with an average length of about 0.5–5 μm. Eu3+doped SrGd2O4 phosphors prepared at low temperatures, showed miserably low values of red emission upon UV excitation owing to the presence of volatile impurities. The SrGd2O4:Eu3+ phosphors prepared at relatively high temperature exhibited strong red-orange emissions due to homogeneously occupied Eu3+ ions in the host lattice. The dominant red to orange(R/O) emission intensity ratios and CIE parameters of Eu3+ ions substantiated the site occupation of higher asymmetry sites of Gd3+ ions and the strong covalent nature. Dexter theory and critical distance calculation suggested that the dipole-dipole interaction could be responsible for the concentration quenching of Eu3+(4 mol.%) doped SrGd2O4 phosphors. | 15 | Cystic lesions of peripheral nerves:Are we missing the diagnosis of the intraneural ganglion cyst?显示文摘AIM To highlight the salient magnetic resonance imaging(MRI) features of the intraneural ganglion cyst(INGC) of various peripheral nerves for their precise diagnosis and to differentiate them from other intra and extraneural cystic lesions.METHODS A retrospective analysis of the magnetic resonance(MR) images of a cohort of 245 patients presenting with nerve palsy involving different peripheral nerves was done.MR images were analyzed for the presence of a nerve lesion,and if found,it was further characterized as solid or cystic.The serial axial,coronal and sagittal MR images of the lesions diagnosed as INGC were studied for their pattern and the anatomical extent along the course of the affected nerve and its branches.Its relation to identifiable anatomical landmarks,intraarticular communication and presence of denervation changes in the muscles supplied by involved nerve was also studied.RESULTS A total of 45 cystic lesions in the intra or extraneurallocations of the nerves were identified from the 245 MR scans done for patients presenting with nerve palsy.Out of these 45 cystic lesions,13 were diagnosed to have INGC of a peripheral nerve on MRI.The other cystic lesions included extraneural ganglion cyst,paralabral cyst impinging upon the suprascapular nerve,cystic schwannoma and nerve abscesses related to Hansen's disease involving various peripheral nerves.Thirteen lesions of INGC were identified in 12 patients.Seven of these affected the common peroneal nerve with one patient having a bilateral involvement.Two lesions each were noted in the tibial and suprascapular nerves,and one each in the obturator and proximal sciatic nerve.An intra-articular connection along the articular branch was demonstrated in 12 out of 13 lesions.Varying stages of denervation atrophy of the supplied muscles of the affected nerves were seen in 7 cases.Out of these 13 lesions in 12 patients,6 underwent surgery.CONCLUSION INGC is an important cause of reversible mono-neuropathy if diagnosed early and surgically treated.Its classic MRI pattern differentiates it from other lesions of the peripheral nerve and aid in its therapeutic planning.In each case,the joint connection has to be identified preoperatively,and the same should be excised during surgery to prevent further cyst recurrence. | Jyoti Panwar Anil Mathew Binu P Thomas | 2017 | World Journal of Radiology2017,9,5: | 5 |

| 18 | Heavy Metal Accumulation in Medicinal Plants Collected from Environmentally Different Sites显示文摘Objective To estimate the heavy metal content in soil and selected medicinal plants procured from environmentally different sites of the same city. Methods Soil and plant samples of Abutilon indicum, Calotropis procera, Euphorbia hirta, Peristrophe bycaliculata, and Tinospora cordifolia were collected from 3 environmentally different sites of the city: heavy traffic area (HTA), industrial area (IA), and residential area (RA). Pb, Cd, Cr, and Ni were estimated in soil and plant samples by inductively coupled plasma emission spectrometry and compared. Results The level of heavy metal was higher in soil than in plant parts studied. Accumulation of heavy metals varied from plant to plant. Pb was the highest in Calotropis procera root from HTA site and the lowest in Peristrophe bycaliculata whole plant from IA site. It was also lower in residential area than in heavy traffic area. Conclusion The level of heavy metal content differed in the same medicinal plant collected from environmentally different sites of the same city. | 19 | Effect of stacking sequence on physical, mechanical and tribological properties of glass-carbon hybrid composites显示文摘A study was done to determine the effect of best stacking sequence(position and orientation)on the mechanical properties,friction and wear response of hybrid composites.The main purpose of the study was to determine the best available stacking sequence for which the physical,mechanical and three body abrasive wear rate is optimum.Test for mechanical properties(tensile strength,flexural strength,inter laminar shear strength,impact strength and hardness)was done on glass-carbon hybrid composites.The composites were then subjected to test for three body abrasive wear on a designed experimental setup.Five different factors(sliding velocity,fabric weight percentage,normal load,sliding distance and abrasive particle size)varied in steps to evaluate the friction and three body abrasive wear response of the composites.The design of experiment using Taguchi’s orthogonal array and analysis of variance(ANOVA)was applied to find out minimum specific wear rate.The results revealed the significance in arrangement of two different layers of fabric(glass and carbon)and the difference in properties obtained by them.Using Taguchi experimental analysis it has been observed that three body abrasive wear rate is minimum at 72 cm/s sliding velocity,30 wt.%fabric content,80 N normal load,90 m sliding distance and 125μm abrasive particle size.The scanning electron microscope(SEM)studies revealed the dynamics of three‐body abrasive wear and underlying micro‐mechanisms that result in the analysis of three body abrasive wear. | Gaurav AGARWAL Amar PATNAIK Rajesh kumar SHARMA Jyoti AGARWAL | 2014 | Friction2014,2,4: | 4 |
| 20 | Emerging therapies in gastrointestinal cancers显示文摘Members of the receptor tyrosine kinase family, that include EGFR, ErbB-2/HER-2, ErbB-3/HER-3 and ErbB-4/ HER-4, are frequently implicated in experimental models of epithelial cell neoplasia as well as in human cancers. Therefore, interference with the activation of these growth factor receptors represents a promising strategy for de- velopment of novel and selective anticancer therapies. Indeed, a number of inhibitors that target either EGFR or HER-2, with the exception of a few that target both; have been developed for treatment of epithelial cancers. Since most solid tumors express different ErbB receptors and/or their ligands, identification of inhibitor(s), targeting multiple EGFR family members may provide a therapeutic benefit to a broader patient population. Here we describe the significance of an ErbB family of receptors in epithelial cancers, and summarize different available therapeutics targeting these receptors.
