1Combustion synthesis of Ce^(3+), Eu^(3+) and Dy^(3+) activated NaCaPO_4 phosphors显示文摘The preparation of NaCaPO4 doped with rare earth (RE) ions Ce3+, Eu3+ and Dy3+ by combustion method was described. Under UV excitation (251 nm) of NaCaPO4:Ce3+ showsd emission (367 nm) in UV range. When NaCaPO4:Dy3+ phosphor was excited at 349 nm, the emission spectrum showed intense bands at 482 nm (blue) and 576 nm (yellow). In Eu activated NaCaPO4 phosphor, the emission spectrum showed a dominant peak at 594 nm (orange) while others were at 614 and 621 nm (red) when excited at 393 nm. The prepared phosphor was characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM) and photoluminescence (PL) measurement. Thus, the photoluminescence behavior of NaCaPO4:Ce3+ was strongly suggested for scintillator. 2Anti-microbial principles of selected remedial plants from Southern India显示文摘Objective:To examine the anti-bacterial activity of leaf extracts of Morus alba L.(Moraceae)and Piper betel L.(Piperaceae),and seed extracts of Bombax ceiba L.(Borabacaceae).Methods:We have partially purified plant extracts by solvent extraction method,and evaluated the effect of individual fractions on bacterial growth using Escherichia coli(E.coli),Pseudomonas aeruginosa(P.aeruginosa) and Staphylococcus aureus(S.aureus) bacterial strains.Results:Compared with Morus and Bombax fractions,Piper fractions showed significant growth inhibition on all the three types of bacteria studied.The EtOAc-hexane fractions of Piper leaves exhibited significant antibacterial activity with minimum inhibitory concentrations(MIC) of 50 μg/mL culture against both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria.The EtOAc-fractions Ⅰ,Ⅱ,and Ⅳ inhibited bacterial colony formation on soft agar in addition to growth inhibition.A combination treatment of piper fractions with ampicillin resulted in significant growth inhibition in E.coli and P.aeruginosa,and combination with anticancer drug geldanamycin(2 μg/mL) showed selective growth inhibition against P.aeruginosa and S.aureus.Three major compounds,i.e.,eugenol,3-hexene-ol and stigmasterol,were primarily identified from Piper betel leaf extractions.Among the individual compounds,eugenol treatment showed improved growth inhibition compared with stigmasterol and 3-hexene-ol.Conclusions:We are reporting potential anti-bacterial compounds from Piper betel against both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria either alone or in combination with drug treatment.Tirupathi Rao G Suresh Babu K J Ujwal Kumar Sujana P A Veerabhadr Raoa Sreedhar AS 2011Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2011,1,4:5

4Design and discovery of materials guided by theory and computation显示文摘Computational materials science and engineering has emerged as an interdisciplinary subfield spanning materials science and engineering,condensed matter physics,chemistry,mechanics and engineering in general.Modern materials research often requires a close integration of computation and experiments in order to fundamentally understand the materials structures and properties and their relation to synthesis and processing.A number of computational methods and tools at different spatiotemporal scales are now well established,ranging from electronic structure calculations based on density functional theory,1,2 atomic molecular dynamics3,4 and Monte Carlo techniques,5 phase-field method6–9 to continuum macroscopic approaches.Over the last few years,computational materials activities have been steadily moving from technique development and purely computational studies of materials towards discovering and designing new materials guided by computation,machine learning and data mining or by a closely tied combination of computational predictions and experimental validation.This movement is being further accelerated by the recent initiatives by various government agencies in the United States,Europe,China and other countries to pursue the materials genome initiative,10 integrated computational materials engineering11–13 as well as the‘Big Data’initiative.Long-Qing Chen Li-Dong Chen Sergei V Kalinin Gerhard Klimeck Sanat K Kumar Jörg Neugebauer Ichiro Terasaki 2015npj Computational Materials2015,,1:2
