| 1 | Optical cross-talk reduction in a quantumdot-based full-color micro-light-emitting-diode display by a lithographic-fabricated photoresist mold显示文摘In this study, a full-color emission red–green–blue(RGB) quantum-dot(QD)-based micro-light-emitting-diode(micro-LED) array with the reduced optical cross-talk effect by a photoresist mold has been demonstrated. The UV micro-LED array is used as an efficient excitation source for the QDs. The aerosol jet technique provides a narrow linewidth on the micrometer scale for a precise jet of QDs on the micro-LEDs. To reduce the optical cross-talk effect,a simple lithography method and photoresist are used to fabricate the mold, which consists of a window for QD jetting and a blocking wall for cross-talk reduction. The cross-talk effect of the well-confined QDs in the window is confirmed by a fluorescence microscope, which shows clear separation between QD pixels. Nanoring(NR) structures were fabricated on a green LED epitaxial wafer; the color of NR-μLEDs was tuned from green to blue through strain relaxation. An Al_2O_3 layer was deposited on the sidewall of NR-μLEDs,which improved the photoluminescence intensity by 143.7%. Coupling with the exposed multiple quantum wells through nonradiative resonant energy transfer, red quantum dots were printed to NR-μLEDs for a full-color display. | 5 | Endoscopic diagnosis of cervical esophageal heterotopic gastric mucosa with conventional and narrow-band images显示文摘AIM:To compare the diagnostic yield of heterotopic gastric mucosa(HGM)in the cervical esophagus with conventional imaging(CI)and narrow-band imaging(NBI).METHODS:A prospective study with a total of 760patients receiving a CI examination(mean age 51.6years;47.8%male)and 760 patients undergoing NBI examination(mean age 51.2 years;45.9%male).The size of HGM was classified as small(1-5 mm),medium(6-10 mm),or large(>1 cm).A standardized questionnaire was used to obtain demographic characteristics,social habits,and symptoms likely to be related to cervical esophageal HGM,including throat symptoms(globus sensation,hoarseness,sore throat,and cough)and upper esophageal symptoms(dysphagia and odynophagia)at least 3 mo in duration.The clinicopathological classification of cervical esophageal HGM was performed using the proposal by von Rahden et al.RESULTS:Cervical esophageal HGM was found in 36of 760(4.7%)and 63 of 760(8.3%)patients in the CI and NBI groups,respectively(P=0.007).The NBI mode discovered significantly more small-sized HGM than CI(55%vs 17%;P<0.0001).For the 99 patients with cervical esophageal HGM,biopsies were performed in 56 patients;37(66%)had fundic-type gastric mucosa,and 19 had antral-type mucosa.For the clinicopathological classification,77 patients(78%)were classified as HGMⅠ(asymptomatic carriers);21 as HGMⅡ(symptomatic without morphologic changes);and one as HGMⅢ(symptomatic with morphologic change).No intraepithelial neoplasia or adenocarcinoma was found.CONCLUSION:NBI endoscopy detects more cervical esophageal HGM than CI does.Fundic-type gastric mucosa constitutes the most common histology.One-fifth of patients have throat or dysphagic symptoms. | Chi-Liang Cheng Cheng-Hui Lin Nai-Jen Liu Jui-Hsiang Tang Yen-Lin Kuo Yi-Ning Tsui | 2014 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2014,20,1: | 13 |

| 7 | Cost-effectiveness analysis of population-based screening of hepatocellular carcinoma: Comparing ultrasonography with two-stage screening显示文摘AIM: To assess the cost-effectiveness of two populationbased hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) screening programs, two-stage biomarker-ultrasound method and mass screening using abdominal ultrasonography(AUS).METHODS: In this study, we applied a Markov decision model with a societal perspective and a lifetime horizon for the general population-based cohorts in an area with high HCC incidence, such as Taiwan. The accuracy of biomarkers and ultrasonography was estimated from published meta-analyses. The costs of surveillance, diagnosis, and treatment were based on a combination of published literature, Medicare payments, and medical expenditure at the National Taiwan University Hospital. The main outcome measure was cost per lifeyear gained with a 3% annual discount rate. RESULTS: The results show that the mass screening using AUS was associated with an incremental costeffectiveness ratio of USD39825 per life-year gained, whereas two-stage screening was associated with an incremental cost-effectiveness ratio of USD49733 per life-year gained, as compared with no screening. Screening programs with an initial screening age of 50 years old and biennial screening interval were the most cost-effective. These findings were sensitive to the costs of screening tools and the specificity of biomarker screening.CONCLUSION: Mass screening using AUS is more cost effective than two-stage biomarker-ultrasound screening. | 8 | Thymoquinone suppresses migration of Lo Vo human colon cancer cells by reducing prostaglandin E2 induced COX-2 activation显示文摘AIM To identify potential anti-cancer constituents in natural extracts that inhibit cancer cell growth and migration.METHODS Our experiments used high dose thymoquinone(TQ) as an inhibitor to arrest Lo Vo(a human colon adenocarcinoma cell line) cancer cell growth, which was detected by cell proliferation assay and immunoblotting assay. Low dose TQ did not significantly reduce Lo Vo cancer cell growth. Cyclooxygenase 2(COX-2) is an enzyme that is involved in the conversion of arachidonic acid into prostaglandin E2(PGE2) in humans. PGE2 can promote COX-2 protein expression and tumor cell proliferation and was used as a control.RESULTS Our results showed that 20 μmol/L TQ significantly reduced human LoV o colon cancer cell proliferation. TQ treatment reduced the levels of p-PI3 K, p-Akt, p-GSK3β, and β-catenin and thereby inhibited the downstream COX-2 expression. Results also showed that the reduction in COX-2 expression resulted in a reduction in PGE2 levels and the suppression of EP2 and EP4 activation. Further analysis showed that TG treatment inhibited the nuclear translocation of β-catenin in LoV o cancer cells. The levels of the cofactors LEF-1 and TCF-4 were also decreased in the nucleus following TQ treatment in a dose-dependent manner. Treatment with low dose TQ inhibited the COX-2 expression at the transcriptional level and the regulation of COX-2 expression efficiently reduced LoV o cell migration. | 15 | Glutamine-supplemented total parenteral nutrition attenuates plasma interleukin-6 in surgical patients with lower disease severity显示文摘AIM: To evaluate whether the effect of Gln dipeptideenriched total parenteral nutrition (TPN) on postoperative cytokine alteration depended on the disease severity of surgical patients.METHODS: Forty-eight patients with major abdominal surgery were allocated to two groups to receive isonitrogenous (0.228 g nitrogen/kg per d) and isocaloric(30 kcal/kg per d) TPN for 6 d. Control group (Conv)using conventional TPN solution received 1.5 g amino adds/kg per day, whereas the test group received 0.972 g amino acids/kg per day and 0.417 g L-alanyl-L-glutamine(Ala-Gln)/kg per day. Blood samples were collected on d 1 and d 6 postoperatively for plasma interleukin (IL)-2,IL-6, IL-8, and interferon (IFN)-γ analysis.RESULTS: Plasma IL-2 and IFN-γ were not detectable.IL-6 concentrations were significantly lower on the 6th postoperative day in the Ala-Gln group than those in the Conv group in patients with APACHE Ⅱ≤6, whereas no difference was noted in patients with APACHE Ⅱ>6. There was no difference in IL-8 levels between the two groups.No difference in cumulative nitrogen balance was observed on d 2-5 after the operation between the two groups(Ala-Gln -3.2±1.6 g vs Conv -6.5±2.7 g). A significant inverse correlation was noted between plasma IL-6 levels and cumulative nitrogen balance postoperatively in the Ala-Gln group, whereas no such correlation was observed in the Conv group.CONCLUSION: TPN supplemented with Gln dipeptide had no effect on plasma IL-8 levels after surgery. | 20 | Hybrid-type white LEDs based on inorganic halide perovskite QDs: candidates for wide color gamut display backlights显示文摘We demonstrate inorganic halide perovskite quantum-dots-based white light-emitting diodes via three different geometries, including liquid, solid, and hybrid types. Problems of fast anion exchange and aggregation in the cases of liquidand solid-type devices are discussed in detail and push us to move towards the fabrication of a hybrid-type device structure. The experiment results illustrate that a hybrid-type device has the highest luminance efficiency(51 lm/W) and a wide color gamut(122% of NTSC and 91% of Rec. 2020).
