| 2 | Does flexible small-diameter colonoscope reduce insertion pain during colonoscopy?显示文摘AIM It is well known that colonoscopy can bedifficult due to abdominal pain induced duringcolonoscope insertion,if sedative agents are notgiven.Recently,an extra-flexible,small-diameter colonoscope(CF-SV,Olympus Inc.,Japan)was developed in order to improve safetyand comfort.The aim of this study was toaccess the usefulness of the CF-SV.METHODS One hundred patients undergoingsigmoidoscopy were recruited and colonoscopywas performed by one experiencedcolonoscopist.First,a routine-type colonoscope(CF-2301)was inserted into the colon withoutsedation.When the patient complained ofabdominal pain(even if mild),the scope wasnot advanced further and was withdrawn afterthe anatomic location of its tip was determinedfluoroscopically.Then,the CF-SV was inserteduntil it reached the cecun or the site whereabdominal pain occurred.Previous abdominalsurgery and abdominal disease were consideredas unfavorable factors(UF)and the relationshipbetween abdominal pain and UF,age and genderwere investigated.Furthermore,the colonicinsertion pressures in 36 patients with abdominalpain were measured with a force gauge.RESULTS Thirty-four cases(34%)felt no painwith the CF-2301 and successful pancolon-0scopies to the cecum were performed.Sixty-six cases(66%)complained of abdominal pain.The procedure was painless for 47% of men and24% of women,respectively.The CF-2301 scopefailed to reach the sigmoid-descending colon junctions in 59(89.4%)of the 66 patientscomplaining of abdominal pain.However,CF-SVreached proximal area in 94.9% of those whofailed with CF-2301.The median pressure forpain-inducing was 700 g/cm^2.CONCLUSION Unsedated patients with UFwere prone to complain of pain when thestandard-type CF-2301 scope was used.Thenewly developed extra-flexible CF-SV is usefulfor the aged and for those with UF or being proneto suffer from abdominal pain.Sedative agentsmay be unnecessary if this new type ofcolonoscope is used. | Yoshiharu Uno Akihiro Munakata | 2000 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2000,6,5: | 7 |
| 3 | Material conversion from paper sludge ash in NaOH solution to synthesize adsorbent for removal of Pb^(2+),NH_4^+and PO_4^(3-) from aqueous solution显示文摘Material conversion from paper sludge ash (PSA) in NaOH solution was attempted to synthesize the adsorbent for removal of inorganic pollutants, such as Pb 2+ , NH 4 + and PO 4 3- from aqueous solution. PSA of 0.5 g was added into 10 mL of 3 mol/L NaOH solution, and then heated at 80, 120, and 160°C for 6-48 hr to obtain the product. PSA mainly composed of two crystalline phases, gehlenite (Ca 2 Al 2 SiO 7 ) and anorthite (CaAl 2 Si 2 O 8 ), and amorphous phase. Hydroxysodalite (Na 6 Al 6 Si 6 O 24 ·8H 2 O) was formed at 80°C, and anorthite dissolved, whereas gehlenite remained unaffected. Katoite (Ca 3 Al 2 SiO 4 (OH) 8 ) was formed over 120°C, and hydroxycancrinite (Na 8 (OH) 2 Al 6 Si 6 O 24 ·2H 2 O) was formed at 160°C, due to the dissolution of both gehlenite and anorthite. Specific surface areas of the products were almost same and were higher than that of raw ash. Cation exchange capacities (CECs) of the products were also higher than that of raw ash, and CEC obtained at lower temperature was higher. Removal abilities of products for Pb 2+ , NH 4 + , and PO 4 3- were higher than that of raw ash. With increasing reaction temperature, the removal efficiencies of Pb 2+ and NH 4 + decreased due to the decrease of CEC of the product, while removal efficiency for PO 4 3- was almost same. | 5 | Scenario analysis for reduction of pollutant load discharged from a watershed by recycling of treated water for irrigation显示文摘A model in which a river model was layered on a distributed model (double-layered model) was developed to analyse the transport of water and pollutants (nitrogen,phosphorus,and BOD as organic matter) in watersheds and rivers.The model was applied to the watershed of Abragafuchi Lake,Japan,where serious water pollution has occurred over three decades,and the applicability of the model was demonstrated.Scenarios of recycling of sewage treated-water into agriculture to reduce pollutant load discharged into the lake were analysed.The results showed that irrigating paddy fields with the sewage-treated water could contribute to conserving water and reducing pollutant load,with reduction rate in BOD,nitrogen,and phosphorus ranging from 6%–36%,16%–46%,and 18%–51%,respectively.Particularly,the results indicated that,irrigating paddy fields with the treated water during non-cropping periods and the accompanying reduction in withdrawn water from the river were more effective in reducing pollutant loads discharged into the lake.Further study is required on the effect of recycled water on crop cultivation and soil conditions for safe implementation. | Eisaku Shiratani Yoshiyuki Munakata Ikuo Yoshinaga Tomijiro Kubota Koji Hamada Tadayoshi Hitomi | 2010 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2010,22,6: | 3 |
