1A study on the mixing proportion in groundwater samples by using Piper diagram and Phreeqc model显示文摘Piper (1944) diagram has been the basis for several important interpretations of the hydrogeochemical data. As seen in this diagram, most natural waters contain relatively few dissolved constituents, with cations (metals or bases) and anions (acid radicles) in chemical equilibrium with one another. Apart from the facies representation, the composition of the mixed sample can be identified in terms of the composition of the parental solution. To bring out this advantage of the Piper diagram, a study was conducted in the Kalpakkam region of Tamilnadu, South India. By taking the geology and water table into consideration, two sample locations were selected as parent solution and third one as the mixture sample. All three samples were analyzed for calcium (Ca), magnesium (Mg), sodium (Na), potassium (K), chloride (Cl), sulphate (SO4) and phosphate (PO4) by Ion Chromatograph (Metrohm IC 861). HCO3 was determined by volumetric titration. The Piper diagram shows that parent solutions clustered towards Na-Mg-Ca-HCO3-Cl and Na-HCO3 facies, and the mixing sample belongs to Na-Mg-HCO3 facies. Phreeqc interac-tive (Ver 2.8) along with the original composition of the mixture sample was used to correlate the mixing proportion identified by the Piper diagram.Karmegam U. Chidambaram S. 2Antimicrobial potential of selected brown seaweeds from Vedalai coastal waters,Gulf of Mannar显示文摘Objective:To evaluate the antimicrobial activity of Turbinaria conoides(T.conoides).Padina gymnospora(P.gymnospora) and Sargassum tenerrimum against human bacterial and fungal pathogens.Methods:The antimicrobial activities of the extracts against various organisms were tested by using disc diffusion method.Results:The methanol extract showed the better result than the other extracts.Whereas,the strong antibacterial inhibition was noted in methanol extracts of P.gymnospora against Bacillus subtilus(26.33±1.86) and the mild inhibition of ethanol extracts from T.conoides against Klebsiella pneumoniae(2.33±0.51).Acetone extraction of P. gymnospora had strong antifungal inhibition against Cryptococcus neoformans(23.00±1.78), and acetone extract of T.conoides had mild inhibition against Aspergillus niger(3.00±0.89). 3Scratch formation and its mechanism in chemical mechanical planarization (CMP)显示文摘Chemical mechanical planarization(CMP)has become one of the most critical processes in semiconductor device fabrication to achieve global planarization.To achieve an efficient global planarization for device node dimensions of less than 32 nm,a comprehensive understanding of the physical,chemical,and tribo-mechanical/chemical action at the interface between the pad and wafer in the presence of a slurry medium is essential.During the CMP process,some issues such as film delamination,scratching,dishing,erosion,and corrosion can generate defects which can adversely affect the yield and reliability.In this article,an overview of material removal mechanism of CMP process,investigation of the scratch formation behavior based on polishing process conditions and consumables,scratch formation mechanism and the scratch inspection tools were extensively reviewed.The advantages of adopting the filtration unit and the jet spraying of water to reduce the scratch formation have been reviewed.The current research trends in the scratch formation,based on modeling perspective were also discussed.Tae-Young KWON Manivannan RAMACHANDRAN Jin-Goo PARK 2013Friction2013,1,4:7
4In vitro antioxidant activities of selected seaweeds from Southeast coast of India显示文摘Objective:In vitro antioxidant activities of three selected Indian seaweeds viz.,Halimeda tuna(H.tuna),Turbinaria conoides(T.conoides) and Gracilaria foliifera(G.foliifera) were evaluated.Methods:Total antioxidant activity,total phenolic content,and reducing power of crude methanol and diethyl ether extracts were determined.Results:Total phenolic content and total antioxidant activity were higher(1.231±0.173 mg GAE/g,1.675±0.361 mg GAE/g) in T.conoides respectively.Reducing power of crude methanol extract increased with concentrations of the extract.The Fourier transform-infra red spectrum analysis revealed the presence of polyphenolic signals.The seaweed extracts displayed moderate antioxidant activity compared to gallic acid standard.Conclusions:The seaweeds could be considered for curing diseases from oxidative deteriorations.Gopalraj Karthikai Devi Karunamoorthy Manivannan Ganapathy Thirumaran Fatimson Arockiya Aarthi Rajathi Perumal Anantharaman 2011Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2011,4,3:6
5Human sperm immobilization effect of Carica papaya seed extracts: an in vitro study显示文摘Aim: To examine if the seed extracts of Carica papaya, which showed antispermatogenic/sperm immobilization properties in animal models, could cause human sperm immobilization in vitro. Methods: Chloroform extract, benzene chromatographic fraction of the chloroform extract, its methanol and ethyl acetate sub-fractions and the isolated compounds from the sub-fractions i.e., ECP 1 & 2 and MCP 1 & 2, of the seeds of Cadca papaya were used at concentrations of 0.1%, 0.5%, 1% and 2%. Sperm motility was assessed immediately after addition of extracts and every 5 minutes thereafter for 30 minutes. Results: There were dose-dependent spermicidal effects showing an instant fall in the sperm motility to less than 20 % at 2 % concentration. Isolated compounds ECP 1 & 2 were more effective inducing a motility of less than 10%. Many of the spermatozoa became vibratory on the spot. Total inhibition of motility was observed within 20 - 25 min at all concentrations of all products. Scanning and transmission electron microscopy revealed deleterious changes in the plasma membrane of the head and mid-piece of spermatozoa. Sperm viability test and the number of abnormal spermatozoa after completion of incubation suggested that the spermatozoa were infertile. The effects were spermicidal but not spermiostatic as revealed by the sperm revival test. 6Synthesis, Characterization and Gas Sensing Properties of Graphene Oxide-Multiwalled Carbon Nanotube Composite显示文摘Graphene oxide(GO)-multiwalled carbon nanotube(MWCNT) composite was synthesized and characterized by X-ray diffraction, atomic force microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, micro Raman, Fourier transform infrared and ultraviolet-visible near infrared spectroscopy techniques. Spectral characteristics of cladding modi?ed ?ber optic gas sensors were studied for various concentrations of ammonia,ethanol and methanol at 27 °C. Thickness of the gas sensing layer was controlled by varying the concentration of composite in ethanol medium(0.5 and 1 mg/mL) for three times dipping process. The 0.5 mg/mL concentrated GO-MWCNT coated sensor showed 1.20, 1.40 and 1.15 times higher sensitivity than the GO coated sensor for ammonia, ethanol and methanol vapors, respectively. Furthermore, it exhibited 1.50,1.80 and 1.80 times better sensitivity than 1 mg/mL concentrated GO-MWCNT coated sensor for ammonia,ethanol and methanol vapors, respectively. The presence of functional groups in GO increased the sensitivity. This is mainly attributed to the effective electron charge transfer between the composite materials and analytes.T. Kavinkumar S. 7经番木瓜种子甲醇分馏物长期治疗后大鼠的精子特点和睾丸超微结构显示文摘番木瓜种子的短期避孕效果已经确认,本文旨在研究大鼠长期服用番木瓜种子甲醇分馏物避孕的安全性和避孕机制。连续360天每天给雄性大鼠(n=40)口服番木瓜种子甲醇分馏物50mg kg^-1;对照组大鼠(n=40)给予橄榄油作为赋形剂。停止给药后120天对大鼠恢复情况进行测定。测量精子参数、血清睾酮水平、生育率、睾丸组织学及超微结构、血液学及血清临床化学,以评价番木瓜种子甲醇分馏物的安全性和有效性。大鼠健康状况、器官重量、血液学和临床化学均未改变,体重增加,证明了该长期治疗的安全性。Sertoli细胞中细胞核和细胞质体积减小、细胞核特征正常、胞质器中空泡形成,精母细胞和精子细胞核变性显示出生精受到干扰,这些均说明其避孕机制。Leydig细胞正常。治疗第60天在Sertoli细胞中观察到初始效果,治疗120—240天后精母细胞和精子细胞开始受影响。治疗60天后精子总数和精子存活率显著降低,精子活力完全抑制,精子异常增加,血清睾酮水平正常,不育率达到100%。停止治疗120天后,包括生育率在内的所有发生改变的参数都恢复到对照水平。本研究表明用番木瓜种子甲醇分馏物长期治疗是安全的,其避孕机制是通过对睾丸中精子细胞分化产生影响,可能由Sertoli细胞因素调节。Boomi Manivannan Ruchi Mittal Shipra Goyal Abdul S. 8Soil and water conservation measures improve soil carbon sequestration and soil quality under cashews显示文摘Land degradation is becoming a serious problem in the west coast region of India where one of the world's eight biodiversity hotspots,the‘Western Ghats’,is present.Poor land management practices and high rainfall have led to increasing problems associated with land degradation.A long-term(13-year)experiment was done to evaluate the impact of soil and water conservation measures on soil carbon sequestration and soil quality at three different depths under cashew nut cultivation on a 19%slope.Five soil and water conservation measures-continuous contour trenches,staggered contour trenches,halfmoon terraces,semi-elliptical trenches,and graded trenches all with vegetative barriers of Stylosanthes scabra and Vetiveria zizanoides and control were evaluated for their influence on soil properties,carbon sequestration,and soil quality under cashews.The soil and water conservation measures improved significantly the soil organic carbon,soil organic carbon stock,carbon sequestration rate and microbial activity compared to the control condition(without any measures).Among the measures tested,continuous contour trenches with vegetative barriers outperformed the others with respect to soil organic carbon stock,sequestration rate,and microbial activity.The lower metabolic quotient with the measures compared to the control indicated alleviation of environmental stress on microbes.Using principal component analysis and a correlation matrix,a minimum dataset was identified as the soil available nitrogen,bulk density,basal soil respiration,soil pH,acid phosphatase activity,and soil available boron and these were the most important soil properties controlling the soil quality.Four soil quality indices using two summation methods(additive and weighted)and two scoring methods(linear and non-linear)were developed using the minimum dataset.A linear weighted soil quality index was able to statistically differentiate the effect of soil and water conservation measures from that of the control.The highest value of the soil quality index of 0.98 was achieved with continuous contour trenches with a vegetative barrier.The results of the study indicate that soil and water conservation measures for cashews are a potential strategy to improve the soil carbon sequestration and soil quality along with improving crop productivity and reducing the erosion losses.Gopal Ramdas Mahajan Bappa Das Sandrasekaran Manivannan Begur Lakshminarasimha Manjunath Ram Ratan Verma Sujeet Desai Rahul Mukund Kulkarni Ashish Marotrao Latare Reshma Sale Dayesh Murgaonkar Kiran Puna Patel Shaiesh Morajkar Ashwini Desai Natasha Barnes Heena Mulla 2021International Journal of Sediment Research2021,36,2:4

10Transcriptome sequencing assisted discovery and computational analysis of novel SNPs associated with flowering in Raphanus sativus in-bred lines for marker-assisted backcross breeding显示文摘The sequencing of radish genome aids in the better understanding and tailoring of traits associated with economic importance.In order to accelerate the genomics assisted breeding and genetic selection,transcriptomes of 33 radish inbred lines with diverse traits were sequenced for the development of single nucleotide polymorphic(SNP)markers.The sequence reads ranged from 2,560,543,741 bp to 20,039,688,139 bp with the GC(%)of 47.80–49.34 and phred quality score(Q30)of 96.47–97.54%.A total of 4951 polymorphic SNPs were identified among the accessions after stringent filtering and 298 SNPs with efficient marker assisted backcross breeding(MAB)markers were generated from the polymorphic SNPs.Further,functional annotations of SNPs revealed the effects and importance of the SNPs identified in the flowering process.The SNPs were predominantly associated with the four major flowering related transcription factors such as MYB,MADS box(AG),AP2/EREB,and bHLH.In addition,SNPs in the vital flowering integrator gene(FT)and floral repressors(EMBRYONIC FLOWER 1,2,and FRIGIDA)were identified among the radish inbred lines.Further,50 SNPs were randomly selected from 298 SNPs and validated using Kompetitive Allele Specific PCR genotyping system(KASP)in 102 radish inbred lines.The homozygosity of the inbred lines varied from 56 to 96%and the phylogenetic analysis resulted in the clustering of inbred lines into three subgroups.Taken together,the SNP markers identified in the present study can be utilized for the discrimination,seed purity test,and adjusting parental combinations for breeding in radish.Jinhee Kim Abinaya Manivannan Do-Sun Kim Eun-Su Lee Hye-Eun Lee 2019Horticulture Research2019,6,1:2

12High mobility group box protein 1 and white matter injury following traumatic brain injury: perspectives on mechanisms and therapeutic strategies显示文摘Traumatic brain injury(TBI)is a major cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide.Despite significant medical advances over recent decades,many survivors of TBI develop long term neuro-cognitive deficits.Previously,only moderate and severe injuries were thought to account for the devastating consequences of TBI.However,there is increasing evidence that even milder injuries may result in problematic lifelong cognitive and affective disturbances.TBI is typically characterized by an an acute physical injury followed by a protracted innate neuro-inflammatory response.These reponses,mediated via neuronal,astrocyte and microglial cells,amongst others,and may result in widespread neuronal death and a micro-environment that is not conducive to brain repair(Manivannan et al.,2021).Whilst the primary physical injury often evades intervention from a medical perspective,the subsequent neuro-inflammatory response offers a potential therapeutic target.Nonetheless,effective pharmacological strategies continue to elude clinicians and scientists due to the complex underlying pathogenesis and difficulties of modelling such a heterogeneous disease.However,the majority of research to date has focused on investigating the effects of post-traumatic neuro-inflammation on grey matter injury rather than the consequences upon white matter(WM),which contributes greatly to cognitive dysfunction across many neurological diseases(Filly and Kelly,2018).Herein,we will briefly discuss:(i)high mobility group box protein 1(HMGB1)as a potential therapeutic target;(ii)the relevance of WM injury in TBI and current understanding of WM repair following injury;and(iii)perspectives on how HMGB1 may play a role.Ronak Ved Susruta Manivannan Imogen Tasker Malik Zaben 2022Neural Regeneration Research2022,17,8:2
