1A systematic review of the efficacy and safety of herbal medicines used in the treatment of obesity显示文摘This review focuses on the efficacy and safety of effective herbal medicines in the management of obesity in humans and animals. PubMed, Scopus, Google Scholar, Web of Science, and IranMedex databases were searched up to December 30, 2008. The search terms were 'obesity' and ('herbal medicine' or 'plant', 'plant medicinal' or 'medicine traditional') without narrowing or limiting search elements. All of the human and animal studies on the effects of herbs with the key outcome of change in anthropometric measures such as body weight and waist-hip circumference, body fat, amount of food intake, and appetite were included. In vitro studies, reviews, and letters to editors were excluded. Of the publications identified in the initial database, 915 results were identified and reviewed, and a total of 77 studies were included (19 human and 58 animal studies). Studies with Cissus quadrangularis (CQ), Sambucus nigra , Asparagus officinalis , Garcinia atroviridis , ephedra and caffeine, Slimax (extract of several plants including Zingiber officinale and Bofutsushosan) showed a significant decrease in body weight. In 41 animal studies, significant weight loss or inhibition of weight gain was found. No significant adverse effects or mortality were observed except in studies with supplements containing ephedra,caffeine and Bofutsushosan. In conclusion, compounds containing ephedra, CQ, ginseng, bitter melon, and zingiber were found to be effective in the management of obesity. 2Modification in Media Composition to Obtain Secretory Production of STxB-based Vaccines using Escherichia coli显示文摘Shiga toxin B-subunit (STxB) from Shigella dysenteriae targets in vivo antigen to cancer cells, dendritic cells (DC) and B cells, which preferentially express the globotriaosylceramide (Gb3) receptor. This pivotal role has encouraged scientists to investigate fusing STxB with other clinical antigens. Due to the challenges of obtaining a functional soluble form of the recombinant STxB, such as formation of inclusion bodies during protein expression, scientists tend to combine STxB with vaccine candidates rather than using their genetically fused forms. In this work, we fused HPV16 E7 as a vaccine candidate to the recombinantly-produced STxB. To minimize the formation of inclusion bodies, we investigated a number of conditions during the expression procedure. Then various strategies were used in order to obtain high yield of soluble recombinant protein from E. coli which included the use of different host strains, reduction of cultivation temperature, as well as using different concentrations of IPTG and different additives (Glycin, Triton X-100, ZnCl2). Our study demonstrated the importance of optimizing incubation parameters for recombinant protein expression in E. coli; also showed that the secretion production can be achieved over the course of a few hours when using additives such as glycine and Triton X-100. Interestingly, it was shown that when the culture mediums were supplemented by additives, there was an inverse ratio between time of induction (TOI) and the level of secreted protein at lower temperatures. 3Corrosion behavior of electron beam processed AZ91 magnesium alloy显示文摘The increasing use of light alloys owing to their high performance makes magnesium alloys very attractive for the use in automotive and biomedical applications.However,it is well known that magnesium and its alloys have poor corrosion resistance in different atmospheric and aqueous environments.As a means of improving corrosion resistance through the microstructure modification,electron beam processing(EBP)was applied on the as-cast AZ91 magnesium alloy.To evaluate the microstructure influence on the corrosion-resistant,the EB processed samples underwent a solution heat treatment and an artificial aging heat treatment.Four different obtained microstructures were investigated by standard microscopy and electrochemical corrosion tests to evaluate the microstructure and its effects on the corrosion resistance of AZ91 alloy.The EBPed specimens show a significant microstructure refinement and homogenous distribution ofβ-phase at the grain boundaries surrounded by supersaturatedα-Mg which acts as a barrier against corrosion.The electrochemical corrosion test of the samples immersed in 3.5 wt%NaCl after 4 weeks indicates that the EBP improves the corrosion resistance of the alloy due to the nobler corrosion potential of supersaturated a-Mg and more stable protective hydroxide films compared to the heat-treated and as-cast conditions.Fatemeh Iranshahi Mohammad Bagher Nasiri Fernando Gustavo Warchomicka Christof Sommitsch 2020Journal of Magnesium and Alloys2020,8,4:7
4Rat hair follicle stem cells differentiate and promote recovery following spinal cord injury显示文摘Emerging studies of treating spinal cord injury(SCI)with adult stem cells led us to evaluate the effects of transplantation of hair follicle stem cells in rats with a compression-induced spinal cord lesion.Here,we proposed a hypothesis that rat hair follicle stem cell transplantation can promote the recovery of injured spinal cord.Compression-induced spinal cord injury was induced in Wistar rats in this study.The bulge area of the rat vibrissa follicles was isolated,cultivated and characterized with nestin as a stem cell marker.5-Bromo-2′-deoxyuridine(BrdU)labeled bulge stem cells were transplanted into rats with spinal cord injury.Immunohistochemical staining results showed that some of the grafted cells could survive and differentiate into oligodendrocytes(receptor-interacting protein positive cells)and neuronal-like cells(βIII-tubulin positive cells)at 3 weeks after transplantation.In addition,recovery of hind limb locomotor function in spinal cord injury rats at 8 weeks following cell transplantation was assessed using the Basso,Beattie and Bresnahan(BBB)locomotor rating scale.The results demonstrate that the grafted hair follicle stem cells can survive for a long time period in vivo and differentiate into neuronal-and glial-like cells.These results suggest that hair follicle stem cells can promote the recovery of spinal cord injury.Nowruz Najafzadeh Maliheh Nobakht Bagher Pourheydar Mohammad Ghasem Golmohammadi 2013Neural Regeneration Research2013,8,36:6
5Higher order aberration comparison between two aspherical intraocular lenses: MC6125AS and Akreos advanced optics显示文摘AIM: To compare higher order aberrations in two aspherical intraocular lenses(IOLs): Akreos advanced optics(AO) and Dr. Schmidt Microcrystalline 6125 aspheric anterior surface(MC6125AS) with each other. METHODS: Forty eyes of 39 patients underwent phacoemulsification and Akreos AO and MC6125 AS were implanted in their eyes in a random manner. Three months post-operatively, higher order aberrations including spherical aberration, coma aberration, and total aberrations were measured and compared.RESULTS: The total aberration was 0.24±0.17 in eyes with Dr. Schmidt and 0.20 ±0.01 in eyes with Akreos AO(P =0.361). The mean of coma aberration was 0.17 ±0.21 and 0.09 ±0.86 in Dr. Schmidt and Akreos lenses,respectively(P =0.825). Total spherical aberration was almost the same in both groups(mean: 0.05, P =0.933).Best corrected visual acuity in Akreos AO(0.10±0.68) and Dr. Schmidt(0.09±0.67) did not differ significantly(P =0.700). 6Enhanced removal of nitrate and phosphate from wastewater by Chlorella vulgaris: Multi-objective optimization and CFD simulation显示文摘To enhance the efficiency of wastewater biotreatment with microalgae, the effects of physical parameters need to be investigated and optimized. In this regard, the individual and interactive effects of temperature, p H and aeration rate on the performance of biological removal of nitrate and phosphate by Chlorella vulgaris were studied by response surface methodology(RSM). Furthermore, a multi-objective optimization technique was applied to the response equations to simultaneously find optimal combinations of input parameters capable of removing the highest possible amount of nitrate and phosphate. The optimal calculated values were temperature of 26.3 °C, pH of 8 and aeration rate of 4.7 L·min^(-1). Interestingly, under the optimum condition, approximately 85% of total nitrate and 77% of whole phosphate were removed after 48 h and 24 h, respectively, which were in excellent agreement with the predicted values. Finally, the effect of baffle on mixing performance and, as a result, on bioremoval efficiency was investigated in Stirred Tank Photobioreactor(STP) by means of Computational Fluid Dynamics(CFD). Flow behavior indicated substantial enhancement in mixing performance when the baffle was inserted into the tank. Obtained simulation results were validated experimentally. 7Bicanalicular versus monocanalicular intubation after failed probing in congenital nasolacrimal duct obstruction显示文摘AIM:To investigate the clinical outcomes of different intubation techniques in the cases of failed primary probing.METHODS: This retrospective study was performed on338 patients with the diagnosis of congenital nasolacrimal duct obstruction with age 1-4y that had failed primary probing.Intubation was performed under light sedation in operating room and the stent was left 3mo in place.Clinical outcome was investigated 3mo after tube removal.RESULTS: Bicanalicular intubation method had higher complete and relative success rates compared to monocanalicular intubation(P =0.00).In addition,Monoka intubation had better outcomes compared to Masterka technique(P =0.046).No difference was found between genders but the higher the age,the better the outcomes with bicanalicular technique rather than monocanalicular.CONCLUSION: Overall success rate of bicanalicular intubation is superior to monocanalicular technique especially in older ages.Also,based upon our clinical outcomes,Masterka intubation is not recommended in cases of failed probing.Mohammad Taher Rajabi Najmeh Zavarzadeh Alireza Mahmoudi Mohammad Karim Johari Seyedeh Simindokht Hosseini Yalda Abrishami Mohammad Bagher Rajabi 2016International Journal of Ophthalmology(English edition)2016,9,10:4
8A Novel Distributed Optimal Adaptive Control Algorithm for Nonlinear Multi-Agent Differential Graphical Games显示文摘In this paper, an online optimal distributed learning algorithm is proposed to solve leader-synchronization problem of nonlinear multi-agent differential graphical games. Each player approximates its optimal control policy using a single-network approximate dynamic programming(ADP) where only one critic neural network(NN) is employed instead of typical actorcritic structure composed of two NNs. The proposed distributed weight tuning laws for critic NNs guarantee stability in the sense of uniform ultimate boundedness(UUB) and convergence of control policies to the Nash equilibrium. In this paper, by introducing novel distributed local operators in weight tuning laws, there is no more requirement for initial stabilizing control policies. Furthermore, the overall closed-loop system stability is guaranteed by Lyapunov stability analysis. 9Evaluation of rabbit antibody response against 8 and 16 kDa recombinant subunits of antigen B from Echinococcus granulosus显示文摘Objective:To immunize rabbits with 12 and 16 kDa recombinant subunits of antigen B from Echinococcus granulosus(E.granulosus) and measuring polyclonal antibody and humoral immune response using ELISA and gel diffusion.Methods:Two mentioned antigens were cloned and expressed in expression vector and purified by affinity chromatography.Four young rabbits were selected and challenged intradermallt with yielded recombinant antigens.Rabbits’ sera were collected post infection and were tested using ELISA and gel diffusion for polyclonal antibody detection 10 days after last injection.Results:The specific antibody against the recombinant peptides was efficiently produced within 4 weeks post infection.Conclusions: Produced recombinants proteins could induce the immune response of the rabbits successfully. 10Islet transplantation and antioxidant management: A comprehensive review显示文摘Islet transplantation as a promising treatment for type 1 diabetes has received widespread attention. Oxidative stress plays an essential role in cell injury during islet isolation and transplantation procedures. Antioxidants have been used in various studies to improve islet transplantation procedures. The present study reviews the role of oxidative stress and the benefits of antioxidants in islet transplantation procedures. The bibliographical databases Pubmed and Scopus were searched up to November 2008. All relevant human and animal in-vivo and in-vitro studies, which investigated antioxidants on islets, were included. Almost all the tested antioxidants used in the in-vitro studies enhanced islet viability and insulin secretion. Better control of blood glucose after transplantation was the major outcome of antioxidant therapy in all in-vivo studies. The data also indicated that antioxidants improved islet transplantation procedures. 11Lymphomatoid Granulomatosis with Splenomegaly and Pancytopenia显示文摘Lymphomatoid granulomatosis (LG) is an angiocentric lymphoproliferative disease. It usually involves lung, skin, and central nervous system, but splenomegaly and pancytopenia are the rare manifestations of the disease. We report a 15-year-old boy presented with fever, dry cough and dyspnea from two months ago, after admission patient had nodular lesions on the left leg and hepatosplenomegaly. Then he manifested neurologic signs such as seizure, aphasia and right-sided hemiplegia. Chest X-ray and CT scan revealed bilateral pulmonary nodules predominantly in lower lobes and peripheral lung fields. Laboratory exams showed pancytopenia. Skin biopsy was done, and histopathological examination and immunohistochemistry evaluation confirmed lymphomatoid granulomatosis. 17Morphometric differentiation between camel and sheep strains of Echinococcus granulosus using computer image analysis system(CIAS)显示文摘Objective:To find importance of morphometrie criterion of larval rostellar hook of Echinococcus granulosus(E.granulosus) and the easy and reliable method for distinguish sheep and camel strains in epidemiologic studies.Methods:Larval rostellar hooks(n=1860) of 31 camel and sheep isolates in Iran,which aheady had been characterized by PCR.were carefully processed by computerized imagime analysis system(CIAS) and acquired data about rostellar books were analyzed using software SPSS.Results:Measurement analysis of rostellar hooks[mean Iength (24.23±3.12lμm]indicated that length of the large hook was a remarkable parameter for strain differentiation.Data analysis demonstrated that CIAS could be used as a reliable tool to distinguish camel from sheep strains with high sensitivity(95.2%) and specificity(91.5%).
