| 1 | Transplantation of stem cells from human exfoliated deciduous teeth for bone regeneration in the dog mandibular defect显示文摘AIM: To investigate the effect of stem cells from human exfoliated deciduous teeth(SHED) transplanted for bone regeneration in the dog mandibular defect.METHODS: In this prospective comparative study, SHEDs had been isolated 5 years ago from human exfoliated deciduous teeth. The undifferentiated stem cells were seeded into mandibular bone through-andthrough defects of 4 dogs. Similar defects in control group were filled with cell-free collagen scaffold. After 12 wk, biopsies were taken and morphometric analysis was performed. The percentage of new bone formation and foreign body reaction were measured in each case. The data were subject to statistical analysis using the Mann-Whitney U and Kruskalwalis statistical tests. Differences at P < 0.05 was considered as significant level.RESULTS: There were no significant differences between control and SHED-seeded groups in connective tissue(P = 0.248), woven bone(P = 0.248) and compact bone(P = 0.082). | 2 | A kinetic approach to evaluate salinity effects on carbon mineralization in a plant residue-amended soil显示文摘The interaction of salinity stress and plant residue quality on C mineralization kinetics in soil is not well understood. A laboratory experiment was conducted to study the effects of salinity stress on C mineralization kinetics in a soil amended with alfalfa, wheat and corn residues. A factorial combination of two salinity levels (0.97 and 18.2 dS/m) and four levels of plant residues (control, alfalfa, wheat and corn) with three replications was performed. A first order kinetic model was used to describe the C mineralization and to calculate the potentially mineralizable C. The CO2-C evolved under non-saline condition, ranged from 814.6 to 4842.4 mg CO2-C/kg in control and alfalfa residue-amended soils, respectively. Salinization reduced the rates of CO2 evolution by 18.7%, 6.2% and 5.2% in alfalfa, wheat and corn residue-amended soils, respectively. Potentially mineralizable C (C0) was reduced significantly in salinized alfalfa residue-treated soils whereas, no significant difference was observed for control treatments as well as wheat and corn residue-treated soils. | 3 | Relationship of knowledge about osteoporosis with education level and life habits显示文摘AIM: To assess possible relationships of knowledge and related factors with educational level and osteoporosisrelated life habits.METHODS: This was a cross sectional study conducted on 268 women(≥ 35 years old) from June 2011 to August 2011. The sample collection was done in outpatient clinics in three university hospitals in Isfahan, Iran. We used a demographic questionnaire containingquestions that evaluated osteoporosis-related life habits, including exercise, smoking, intake of calcium and vitamin D supplements and so on. We also used the Osteoporosis Knowledge Assessment Tool to measure osteoporosis knowledge of women.RESULTS: The mean level of knowledge about awareness of osteoporosis, its risk factors and preventive factors were 56, 55 and 22, respectively. The relationship of education level and awareness of osteoporosis, its risk factors and preventive factors was significant, with R = 0.76, R = 0.73 and R = 0.83, respectively(P < 0.001). The relationship of education level and osteoporosis-related life habits was not significant(R = 0.03 and P = 0.56). | 4 | Implication of Surface Fractal Analysis to Evaluate the Relative Sensitivity of Topography to Active Tectonics,Zagros Mountains, Iran显示文摘Fractal geometry is increasingly becoming a useful tool for modeling and quantifying the complex patterns of natural phenomena. The Earth's topography is one of these phenomena that have fractal characteristics. This paper investigates the relative sensitivity of topography to active tectonics using ASTER Global Digital Elevation Model. The covering divider method was used for direct extraction of surface fractal dimension(D surf) to estimate the roughness-surface of topography with aid of geographic information system(GIS)techniques. This evaluation let us highlight the role of the geomorphic and tectonic processes on the spatial variability of fractal properties of natural landforms.Geomorphic zones can be delineated using fractal dimension mapping in which variability of surface fractal dimension reflects the roughness of the landform surface and is a measure of topography texture. Obtained results showed this method can be a quick and easy way to assess the distribution of land surface deformation in different tectonic settings. | 5 | Folded Radiolarite Unit as a Kinematic Indicator of the Zagros Collision Processes, Southwestern Iran显示文摘Radiolarites have an important role in the reconstruction of the paleogeography, bathymetry and their coexistence with ophiolites gives an opportunity to determine the tectonic history of collisional zones. The radiolarite units of the southwestern Neyriz are part of the Zagros accretionary prism and positioned beneath the thick bedded carbonate sediments of Tarbur Formation. The existing various structural elements within this unit give a unique fortunate for investigation on the deformation history and studying of the kinematics of the Zagros collision zone. The numerous evidence show that this unit has experienced different deformation conditions during ongoing evolution, including ductile, brittle-ductile and brittle deformation conditions. The main strike of E-W for axial planes of folds, eastward trend and plunge of fold axes, boudins' neck axes and Type III of the fold interference patterns are indicators of formation and evolution of folds during transpressional deformation. Structural evolution of the study area has been affected by an NE-dipping subduction zone of Neo-Tethyan oceanic lithosphere below the Iranian microcontinents. | 7 | Low-temperature Magnesiothermic Synthesis of Mesoporous Silicon Carbide from an MCM-48/Polyacrylamide Nanocomposite Precursor显示文摘Mesoporous silicon carbide with high specific surface area was successfully synthesized from an MCM-48/ polyacrylamide nanocomposite precursor in the temperature range of 550—600℃(below the melting point of Mg) by means of a magnesiothermic reduction process.The MCM-48/polyacrylamide precursor nanocomposite was prepared by in-situ polymerization of acrylamide monomer in the presence of mesoporous MCM-48 synthesized by sol-gel method.The physicochemical properties and microstructures of the nanocomposite precursor and the low-temperature SiC product were characterized by X-ray diffraction(XRD), differential scanning calorimetry-thermo gravimetric analysis(DSC-TGA),transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and N_2 adsorption—desorption.TEM micrographs and Brunauer—Emmett—Teller(BET) gas adsorption studies showed that the SiC powder was nanocrystalline and had a specific surface area of 330 m^2/g and a mesoporosity in the range of 2—10 nm.The presence of an exothermic peak in the DSC trace corresponds to the self-combustion process of the SiC magnesiothermic synthesis.The results also show that the carbon in excess to that required to produce SiC plays a role in the reduction of the SiO_2.The mechanism of magnesiothermic synthesis of mesoporous SiC is discussed. | Zahra Saeedifar Amir Abbas Nourbakhsh Roozbeh Javad Kalbasi Ebrahim Karamian | 2013 | Journal of Materials Science & Technology2013,29,3: | 3 |

| 11 | Determination of soybean yield gap and potential production in Iran using modeling approach and GIS显示文摘Increasing crop production is necessary to maintain food security for the growing global population.Reducing the gap between actual and potential yield is one of the important ways to increase yield per unit area.Potential yield and the yield gap of soybean were determined for Golestan Province,Iran,using Soybean Simulation Model (SSM-i Crop2) and Geographical Information System (GIS).Information from 24 weather stations and soil data of the region were used.Yield gap and production gap were calculated at county and province levels.The average actual yield of soybean in this province was2.28 t ha^(–1) while the province’s potential yield was 4.73 t ha^(–1),so the yield gap was estimated 2.44 t ha^(–1).Thus,there is a great potential for increasing soybean yield in Golestan,which is possible through improving crop management of soybean in farmers’fields.The average water productivity of soybean was estimated to be 0.81 kg m^(–3).Spatial distribution of water productivity in soybean farms showed that the highest and the lowest water productivities (0.99 and 0.44 kg m^(–3)) were in western and eastern regions of the province,respectively,in accordance to vapour pressure deficit.It was concluded that soybean production in the province could increase by 66%(from 109 970 to 182 170 tons) if 80% of the current yield gap could be removed. | Alireza NEHBANDANI Afshin SOLTANI Ali RAHEMI-KARIZAKI Amir DADRASI Faranak NOURBAKHSH | 2021 | Journal of Integrative Agriculture2021,20,2: | 2 |

| 13 | Impact of modified electrodes on boosting power density of microbial fuel cell for effective domestic wastewater treatment:A case study of Tehran显示文摘Utilizing microbial fuel cells( MFCs) is a promising technology for energy-efficient domestic wastewater treatment,but it still faces practical barriers such as low power generation. In this study,the LaMnO_3 perovskite-type oxide nanoparticles and nickel oxide/carbon nanotube/polyaniline( NCP) nanocomposite( the cathode and anode catalysts,respectively) have been prepared and used to enhance power density of MFC. The prepared La-based perovskite oxide catalysts were characterized by X-ray diffraction( XRD) and scanning electron microscopies( SEM). The electrocatalytic properties of the prepared catalysts were investigated through cyclic voltammetry( CV) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy( EIS) and Tafel plot at ambient temperature. Results show the exchange current densities of LaMnO_3/carbon cloth cathode and NCP nanocomposite/carbon cloth anode were 1.68 and 7 times more compared to carbon cloth cathode,respectively. In comparison to the bare carbon cloth anode,the MFC with the modified electrodes shows 11 times more enhancement in power density output which according to electrochemical results,it can be due to the enhancement of the electron transfer capability. These cathodic and anodic catalysts were examined in batch and semicontinuous modes to provide conditions close to industrial conditions.
