2Retrieving crop leaf area index by assimilation of MODIS data into a crop growth model显示文摘Leaf area index (LAI) is an important parameter in monitoring crop growth. One of the methods for retrieving LAI from remotely sensed observations is through inversion of canopy reflectance models. Many model inversion methods fail to account for variable LAI values at different crop growth stages. In this research, we use the crop growth model to describe the LAI changes with crop growth, and consider a priori LAI values at different crop growth stages as constraint information. The key approach of this research is to assimilate multiple canopy reflectance values observed at different growth stages and a priori LAI values into a coupled crop growth and radiative transfer model sequentially using a variational data assimilation algorithm. Adjoint method is used to minimize the cost function. Any other information source can be easily incorporated into the inversion cost function. The validation results show that the time series of MODIS canopy reflectance can greatly reduce the uncertainty of the inverted LAI values. 3Factors impacting nanoindentation testing results of the cuticle of dung beetle Copris ochus Motschulsky显示文摘The cuticle of dung beetle is a layered composite material in micro- or nano-scale. Dung beetle can fly, walk and dig. It can shovel and compact dung of mammals into balls. It use foreleg to walk, midleg and hindleg to hold and impel dung ball. Its two foreleges as digging legs are developed. The factors impacting the nanoindentation testing results of the femur cuticle of forelegs of dung beetle Copris ochus Motschulsky were examined. The nanomechanical test instrument used for the tests was Hysitron nanomechanical system. The results shown that the holding time and loading time are important factors im- pacting the accuracy of such indentation properties as reduced modulus (Er) and the harness ( H ) of the femur cuticle of the forelegs of dung beetle Copris ochus Motschulsky in nanoscale. There exists a threshold holding time of 20 s for the reduced modulus of the femur cuticle. The tests of nanoindentation creep property and the regression analysis of relationship between the depth increment at the maximum load and the time further confirmed the correction of the above threshold holding time. There exist visco-elastic-plastic behaviour and creep phenomenon in the femur cuticle during indenting. Its creep property during the holding procedure at maximum load can be regressed by a general logarithmic equation. 4Backward Propagation of Otoacoustic Emissions显示文摘Normal mammalian ears not only detect but also generate sounds. The ear-generated sounds, i.e., otoacoustic emissions (OAEs), can be measured in the external ear canal using a tiny sensitive microphone. In spite of wide applications of OAEs in diagnosis of hearing disorders and in studies of cochlear functions, the question of how the cochlea emits sounds remains unclear. The current dominating theory is that the OAE reaches the cochlear base through a backward traveling wave. However, recently published works, including experimental data on the spatial pattern of basilar membrane vibrations at the emission frequency, demonstrated only forward traveling waves and no signs of backward traveling waves. These new findings indicate that the cochlea emits sounds through cochlear fluids as compression waves rather than through the basilar membrane as backward traveling waves. 5Improvement of a 3D radar backscattering model using matrix-doubling method显示文摘Radiative transfer models have been widely used to simulate the radar backscattering from forested areas. A three-dimensional radar backscatter model of forest canopy developed in previous studies takes full account of spatial position of trees in a forest stand, and the interactions among crown, trunk and ground surface. The model predicted well for the co-polarized backscatter measurements, but underestimated the backscattering for cross-polarization, primarily because only the first-order scattering within tree crowns was considered in the model. The backscattering at cross-polarization depends strongly on multiple scatter- ing within tree crowns. To produce good estimations for cross-polarized component, the matrix-doubling method is employed here to compute multiple-scattering within the crown. The modified model is compared with the original model, and the field forest measurements and AIRSAR data are used for validation of the modified model. 6Prokaryote phylogeny meets taxonomy: An exhaustive comparison of composition vector trees with systematic bacteriology显示文摘We perform an exhaustive, taxon by taxon, comparison of the branchings in the composition vector trees (CVTrees) inferred from 432 prokaryotic genomes available on 31 December 2006, with the bacte-riologists' taxonomy-primarily the latest online Outline of the Bergey's Manual of Systematic Bacteri-ology. The CVTree phylogeny agrees very well with the Bergey's taxonomy in majority of fine branchings and overall structures. At the same time most of the differences between the trees and the Manual have been known to biologists to some extent and may hint at taxonomic revisions. 7Ab initio molecular dynamics simulation of the atom packing and density of Al-Ni amorphous alloys显示文摘Al-Ni alloys have better glass forming ability (GFA) than other Al-based alloys. However, the relationship among the atomic arrangement, glass transition, packing density and composition hasn’t been systematically studied. In this paper the ab initio molecular dynamics simulation (AIMD) was performed on the atom packing and density of AlxNi100-x (x=80, 83, 85, 86, 87 and 90) alloys. The pair correlation function and Voronoi tessellation indicated that there are obvious topological and chemical short-range orders in these alloys. The topological structure consists of Al-centered icosahedra like and Ni-centered tri-capped trigonal prism (TTP) like polyhedra. There is strong chemical short-range ordering between Al and Ni atoms indicated by the bond-length of Al-Ni pair shorter than the sum of the radii of Al and Ni atoms, which increases with the increasing of Ni content. It is shown that the densities of amorphous alloys don’t agree with the linear law with a peak at x=85. 8Organic Light Emitting Diodes with Lithium Contained Alq3 as Electron Injection Layer显示文摘lNovel lithium doped tris 8 hydroxylquinoline aluminium(Alq3:Li) layer is deposited between emission layer and electron injection aluminium electrode as an electron injection assistant layer in different organic light emitting diodes(OLED) to lower the electron injection barrier. In these devices, Alq3 is used as emission layer, and a bilayer film of N,N bis (1 naphhyl) N,N diphenyl 1,1 biphenyle 4,4' diamine(NPB) and 4,4,4' tris(3 methyl phenylphenylamino) triphenylamine( m MTDATA) used as hole transport layer(HTL). The electroluminescent performance of devices with different thicknesses of Alq3∶Li shows that the insertion of the lithium doped Alq3 layer can reduce the turn on voltage by at least 2 volts, and the stability of devices with this lithium doped Alq3 layer is improved too. It can also change the efficiency of devices. 9Computer simulation of rolling wear on bionic non-smooth convex surfaces显示文摘The study of bionics has found that the skins of many burrow animals which live in soil and stone conditions have an anti wear function, and which is related to their body surfaces’non-smooth morphology. In the present study, bionic non-smooth surfaces are used in roll surface design, and roll models with convex non-smooth surfaces are developed. The rolling wear of non-smooth roll in steel rolling is simulated by the FEM software-ANSYS. 10Simulation of the Influence of Surface Wettability on Viscous Fingering Phenomenon in Porous Media显示文摘Fingering phenomena are common occurrence in the natural world. It generally takes place when a less viscous fluid displacesa more viscous fluid typically in porous media. Nowadays, such phenomena have extensively been studied due to itsimportance in many industrial fields. In this paper, the effects of surface wettability on finger pattern are studied and simulatednumerically by the Lattice Boltzmann method (LBM). The displacement efficiency is investigated by using two parameters,namely, the breakthrough time and the areal sweep efficiency. The simulation has demonstrated that surface wettability willinfluence the finger pattern no matter the gravity is considered or not, but in the presence of gravity, the finger pattern is muchmore complicated and irregular due to the coexistence and competition of capillary force, viscous force and gravity.B.
