1Laparoscopic Partial Nephrectomy With Segmental Renal Artery Clamping:Technique and Clinical Outcomes显示文摘Background:Warm ischemic injury is one of the most important factors affecting renal function in partial nephrectomy(PN).The technique of segmental renal artery clamping emerges as an alternative to conventional renal artery clamping for renal hilar control.Objective:To evaluate the feasibility and efficiency of laparoscopic PN(LPN) with segmental renal artery clamping in comparison with the conventional technique.Design,setting,and participants:A total of 75 patients underwent LPN from June 2007 to November 2009.All patients had T1a or T1b tumor in one kidney and a normal contralateral kidney.Thirty-seven patients underwent surgeries with main renal artery clamping,and 38 underwent surgeries with segmental artery clamping.Intervention:All procedures were performed by the same laparoscopic surgeon.Measurements:Blood loss,operation time,warm ischemia(WI) time,and complications affected renal function before and after operation were recorded.Results and limitations:All LPNs were completed without conversion to open surgery or nephrectomy.The novel technique slightly increased WI time(p < 0.001) and intraoperative blood loss(p = 0.006),while it provided better postoperative affected renal function(p < 0.001) compared with the conventional technique.The total complication rate was 12%.Among the 38 cases where segmental renal artery clamping was performed,7 had to convert to the conventional method.Tumor size and location influenced the number of clamped segmental arteries.Long-term postoperative renal function is still awaited.Conclusions:LPN with segmental artery clamping is safe and feasible in clinical practice.It minimizes the intraoperative WI injury and improves early postoperative affected renal function compared with main renal artery clamping.(C) 2010 European Association of Urology.Published by Elsevier B.V.All rights reserved.Shao,P.F. 5High expression levels of IKK alpha and IKK beta are necessary for the malignant properties of liver cancer显示文摘IKK-NF-kappa B signaling is regarded as an important factor in hepatocarcinogenesis and a potential target for liver cancer therapy.Therefore,in this study,we analyzed the expression of mRNAs encoding components and targets of NF-kappa B signaling including IKK alpha,IKK beta,RANK,RANKL,OPG,CyclinD3,mammary serine protease inhibitor(Maspin),CyclinD1,c-FLIP,Bcl-x1,Stat3,Cip1 and Cip2 by real-time PCR in 40 patients with liver cancer.After statistical analysis,7 indices including IKK alpha,IKK beta,RANK,Maspin,c-FLIP,Cip2 and cyclinD1 were found to show significant differences between tumor tissue and its corresponding adjacent tissue.When IKK alpha and IKK beta were downregulated in the hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) cell lines of MHCC-97L and MHCC-97H in vitro,the numbers of BrdU positive cells were decreased in both IKK alpha and IKK beta knockdown cells.Levels of apoptosis were also investigated in IKK alpha and IKK beta knockdown cells.The growth of HCC was inhibited in the subcutaneous implantation model,and lung metastatogenesis was also significantly inhibited in the kidney capsule transplantation model.Downregulation of IKK alpha and IKK beta in HCC cultured in vitro revealed that increased Maspin,OPG and RANKL expression was associated with metastasis of HCC.These findings were associated with downregulation of Bcl-XL and c-FLIP,which may be the reason for increased apoptosis.The therapeutic effect of IKK alpha and IKK beta downregulation depends on extent of NF-kappa B inhibition and the malignant nature of the HCC.We anticipate that IKK-targeted gene therapy can be used in the treatment of HCC,a cancer that is notoriously resistant to radiation and chemotherapy.Jiang,RQ Xia,YX Li,J Deng,L Zhao,L Shi,J Wang,XH Sun,BC Nanjing Med Univ,Liver Transplantat Ctr,Affiliated Hosp 1,Nanjing,Jiangsu Prov,Peoples R China Nanjing Med Univ,Ctr Canc,Nanjing,Jiangsu Prov,Peoples R China 2010南京医科大学学报(自然科学版)2010,30,5:13

8Enhancing disease resistances of Super Hybrid Rice with four antifungal genes显示文摘A plant expression vector harboring four antifungal genes was delivered into the embryogenic calli of ‘9311’, an indica restorer line of Super Hybrid Rice, via modified biolistic particle bombardment. Southern blot analysis indicated that in the regenerated hygromycin-resistant plants, all the four anti-fungal genes, including RCH10, RAC22, β-Glu and B-RIP, were integrated into the genome of ‘9311’, co-transmitted altogether with the marker gene hpt in a Mendelian pattern. Some transgenic R1 and R2 progenies, with all transgenes displaying a normal expression level in the Northern blot analysis, showed high resistance to Magnaporthe grisea when tested in the typical blast nurseries located in Yanxi and Sanya respectively. 9The influence of impurity on the critical thickness of the CeO_2 buffer layer for coated conductors显示文摘The lattice parameters, band structure, density of state and elastic constant of RE-doped CeO2 (RE=Sm, Gd, Dy), the buffer material for coated HTS conductors, are calculated using the plane-wave method with pseudopotentials based on the density functional theory (DFT) of first-principle. The rule and mechanism of the effect of rare earth impurity on the critical thickness of the CeO2 buffer layer are investigated. It is found that, in the range of the calculation, the changes of the lattice volume V and elastic constant E of CeO2 with the impurity are mainly determined by the increased electrons ne of the system. The relationship of the elastic constant E and increased electrons ne is established. 10The level of oncogene H-Ras correlates with tumorigenicity and malignancy显示文摘Normal bovine adrenocortical cells and some human fibroblasts can be transformed by SV40T and H-Ras in a Ras-dependent manner. We recently reported that high levels of Ras derived from 5' LTR of retrovirrus can induce highly malignant and fast growing tumors, while lower levels of Ras derived from internal ribosome entry site(IRES) promotes slower tumor growth and loss of malignancy. Ras derived from CMV promoters resulted in much lower Ras levels and loss of tumor malignancy and growth. Further studies showed that the tumors formed in the presence of lower levels of Ras and dominant negative P53(P53DD) had fewer apoptotic cells and grew faster than the tumors formed from cells with same level Ras and SV40T. Our studies suggest that low levels of Ras are insufficient to inhibit apoptosis induced by pRb inactivation. 11Surface Activities of Calix [4]resorcinarenes Bearing Four Hydrophobic Chains and Its Solubilization for Organic Compounds显示文摘Calix resorcinarenes bearing four hydrophobic side chains ( Ar-Rn, Ar-Ph, and Ar-N) orient stably on water oil interface and show high solubilization capacities for organic compounds, such as long chain alcohols, benzene, toluene and dyes. The capacities are high even near the cmc of polyalkylated calix resorcinarenes, but the solubilities of organic compounds(solubilizates) decrease with the increase of the size of the solubilizates. Ar-R 6, with a chain length of six carbons, is the most effective among Ar-R n , Ar-Ph, and Ar-N; 11 fold mol of hexanol is dissolved in 2×10 -3 mol/L Ar-R 6. Moreover, Ar-R n bearing four alkyl side chains solubilizes the chain alcohols of the same chain length mostly. 14Cesium accumulation by bacterium Thermus sp. TibetanG7:hints for biomineralization of cesium-bearing geyserite in hot springs in Tibet,China显示文摘The bacterium Thermus sp. TibetanG7, isolated from hot springs in Tibet, China, was examined for the ability to accumulate cesium from solutions. Environmental conditions were simulated and the effects of pH, K+, Na+ and K+-regimes were then studied to determine the possible role of the bacterium in the formation of cesium-bearing geyserite around these hot springs. In despite of the inhibition of K+ and Na+, the bacterium Thermus sp. TibetanG7 revealed noticeable accumulation of cesium from solutions, with maximum accumulations of 53.49 and 40.41 μmol Cesium/g cell dry weight in Na+ and K+ inhibition experiments, respectively. The accumulation of cesium by this microorganism is rapid, with 40%―50% accumulated within the first 5 min. K+-deficient cells showed a much higher capacity of cesium accu- mulation compared with K+-sufficient cells. It is evident that the bacteria within the genus thermus play a significant role in the cesium assembly.
