1Statistical Research on S-Wave Incident Angle显示文摘In this paper,the following assumptions are made:1) seismic source is a point one;2) the near-fieid.seismic waves are body ones:3) the medium of the earth is a half-space which is homogeneous and elastic.Yccording to the above-mentioned assumptions,this paper obtains a theoretical formula to estimate S-wave incident angle by using the record of strong ground motion.During the process of calculations,the paper also presents a method of getting in-plane and inti-plane motions from the record of strong ground motion.By making use of 214 records of strong ground motion in the western America,this paper gives a statistical relation among S-wave incident angle,epicentral distance and frequency.The results show that the average value of S-wave incident angle is about 57,and has little to do with the epicentral distance.Jin Xing and Liao ZhenpengInstitute of Engineering Mechanics,SSB,Harbin,Heilongjiang 150080,China 1994Earthquake Research in China1994,8,1:21
2Studies on the Surface Rupture Zone of 1303 Hongdong Earthquake of M =8 and Paleoearthquakes of Huoshan Fault in Shanxi Province显示文摘An earthquake of M=8 occurred in the Linfen Basin of the Shanxi graben system in 1303,producing a surface rupture zone about 45km long.Compiling a geological map at 1:10,000 and studying in detail the rupture zone,its dextral strike-slip displacement is determined to be 4-8.6 m,and normal dip-slip displacement up to 3.5-5 m.In this paper the geochronological evidence for the formation of the surface rupture zone is provided and the Huoshan fault is confirmed to be the seismogenic structure for the M=8 earthquake.Field trenching enables us to identify two paleoseismic events having occurred along the Huoshan fault since the middle Holocene before the M8 earthquake.A recurrence interval of these three events including 1303 Hongdong M 8 earthquake is determined to be up to 1500-2000 years.The result corresponds to the mean recurrence interval calculated from slip rate on the Huoshan fault during Holocene.Deng Qidong and Xu XiweiInstitute of Geology,SSB,Beijing 100029,China 1994Earthquake Research in China1994,8,2:4

4Confidence Evaluation of Medium-and Long-Term Earthquake Prediction by Use of the Analytical Hierarchy Process显示文摘This paper offers an approach to the relative confidence level of medium- and long-term earthquake prediction methods by use of the analytical hierarchy process (AHP). We construct the criterion judgment matrices according to the results of an expert questionnaire known as the Delphi scheme. From the matrices we can obtain a scale for the relative preference or priority weight of each factor. 14Interpretation of S-Wave Data from Fanshi-Taipusiqi DSS Profile and Analysis of Correlation between Deep Structural Characteristics and Seismicity显示文摘By processing S-wave data from the Fanshi-Huai’an-Taipusiqi DSS profile,which is a three-component,wide-angle reflection/refraction profile,and in the light of the results from P-wave interpretation,two-dimensional(2-D)structures of the crust and upper mantle are presented,including S-wave velocity Vs and the physical parameter of medium-Poisson’s ratio a.Taking other geological and geophysical information into account,and with reference to the results from petrophysical experiments at home and abroad,we carried out interpretation and inference with respect to deep crustal structure,tectonics,and lithologic characters.It has been concluded that in the upper and middle crust,a values are mostly not greater than 0.25,and rocks,which generally assume brittle,are mainly composed of granite; the rocks in the lower layer of the upper crust between Yangyuan-Huai’an containing inorganic CO2 itself releases carbon; for the rocks in the lower crust and crust-mantle transitional zone,which are comparativelyZhou Xuesong,Song Songyan,Zhang Xiankang,Qiu Shuyan,Gong Yi,and Song JianliResearch Center of Exploration Geophysics,SSB,Zhengzhou 450003,China 1998Earthquake Research in China1998,12,1:1
15Fault Geometry and Departure of Precursors From the Epicenter显示文摘Different tectonic elements may play different roles and their deformation styles and types of anomalies are also different in the process of deformation.Such differences may be the cause of the phenomena of the departure from the region with obvious anomalies from the coming epicenter,which are called 'departure of precursors from epicenter.' 16Seismogenic Structure of the 1411 Southern Damxung (Damdoi) Earthquake with M=8 in Tibet显示文摘The seismogenic structure of the 1411 southern Damxung(Damdoi)earthquake with M=8 in Tibet is discussed in detail in this paper.It is pointed out that the Nyainqentanglha southern pediment fault is the seismogenic one of the 1411 southern Damxung(Damdoi)earthquake with M=8,and the macroepicenter is located at the intersection of the extensional shear fault within Nasego-Garbogo pull-apart basin and the secondary strike-slipping fault with larger amplitude of neotectonic activity at the southwestern side of the basin.Besides,there is obvious anomaly of the geophysical fields in the seismic area,indicating that occurrence of 1411 southern Damxung(Damdoi)earthquake with M=8 was not only controlled by the superstructure but also the background of deep-seated structure.Wu Zhangnung,Cao Zhongquan,Shentu Bingming and Deng QidongInsntute of Geology,SSB,Beijing 100029,China 1994Earthquake Research in China1994,8,1:1

20Preliminary Study on Probabilistic Prediction of Seismic Hazard in a Period of 10 Years显示文摘Many uncertainty factors need be dealt with in the prediction of seismic hazard for a 10-year period.Restricted by these uncertainties,the result of prediction is also uncertain to a certain extent,so the probabilistic analysis method of seismic hazard should be adopted.In consideration of the inhomogeneity of the time,location,and magnitude of future earthquakes and the probabilistic combination of the background of long-term seismic hazard(geology,geophysical field,etc.)and the precursors of earthquake occurrence,a model of probabilistic prediction of seismic hazard in a period of 10 years s proposed.Considering the inhomogeneity of data and earthquake precursors for different regions in China,a simplified model is also proposed in order to satisfy the needs of different regions around the country.A trial in North China is used to discuss the application of the model.The method proposed in this paper can be used in the probabilistic prediction of seismic hazard in a period of 10 years.According toGao Mengtan and Wang JianInstitute of Geophysics,SSB,Beijing 100081,China 1995Earthquake Research in China1995,9,4:1
