1Pathogenesis of achalasia cardia显示文摘Achalasia cardia is one of the common causes of motor dysphagia.Though the disease was first described more than 300 years ago,exact pathogenesis of this condition still remains enigmatic.Pathophysiologically,achalasia cardia is caused by loss of inhibitory ganglion in the myenteric plexus of the esophagus.In the initial stage,degeneration of inhibitory nerves in the esophagus results in unopposed action of excitatory neurotransmitters such as acetylcholine,resulting in high amplitude non-peristaltic contractions(vigorous achalasia);progressive loss of cholinergic neurons over time results in dilation and low amplitude simultaneous contractions in the esophageal body(classic achalasia).Since the initial description,several studies have attempted to explore initiating agents that may cause the disease,such as viral infection,other environmental factors,autoimmunity,and genetic factors.Though Chagas disease,which mimics achalasia,is caused by an infective agent,available evidence suggests that infection may not be an independent cause of primary achalasia.A genetic basis for achalasia is supported by reports showing occurrence of disease in monozygotic twins,siblings and other first-degree relatives and occurrence in association with other genetic diseases such as Down's syndrome and Parkinson's disease.Polymorphisms in genes encoding for nitric oxide synthase,receptors for vasoactive intestinal peptide,interleukin 23 and the ALADIN gene have been reported.However,studies on larger numbers of patients and controls from different ethnic groups are needed before definite conclusions can be obtained.Currently,the disease is believed to be multi-factorial,with autoimmune mechanisms triggered by infection in a genetically predisposed individual leading to degeneration of inhibitory ganglia in the wall of the esophagus.Uday C Ghoshal Sunil B Daschakraborty Renu Singh 2012World Journal of Gastroenterology2012,18,24:20
2Influence of heat treatment on the machinability and corrosion behavior of AZ91 Mg alloy显示文摘In the present study,AZ91 Mg alloy was heat treated at 410℃ for 6,12 and 24 h to investigate the influence of heat treatment on machinability and corrosion behavior.The effect of soaking time on the amount and distribution of Mg 17 Al 12(β-phase)was analyzed under the optical microscope.Microhardness measurements demonstrated the increased hardness with increased heat treatment soaking time,which can be attributed to the solid solution strengthening.The influence of super saturatedα-grains on reducing the cutting force(F z)with respect to increased cutting speed was observed as prominent.The corrosion behavior of the heat treated specimens was studied by conducting electrochemical tests.Surprisingly,corrosion rate of heat treated samples was observed as increased compared with the base material.From the results,it is evident that the machinability of AZ91 Mg alloy can be improved by producing super saturatedα-grains through heat treatment but at the cost of losing corrosion resistance.Swetha Chowdary V Ravikumar Dumpala Anand Kumar S Kondaiah VV Ratna Sunil B 2018Journal of Magnesium and Alloys2018,6,1:7
3A study of the correlation between dengue and weather in Kandy City, Sri Lanka (2003 -2012) and lessons learned显示文摘Background:Weather variables affect dengue transmission.This study aimed to identify a dengue weather correlation pattern in Kandy,Sri Lanka,compare the results with results of similar studies,and establish ways for better control and prevention of dengue.Method:We collected data on reported dengue cases in Kandy and mid-year population data from 2003 to 2012,and calculated weekly incidences.We obtained daily weather data from two weather stations and converted it into weekly data.We studied correlation patterns between dengue incidence and weather variables using the wavelet time series analysis,and then calculated cross-correlation coefficients to find magnitudes of correlations.Results:We found a positive correlation between dengue incidence and rainfall in millimeters,the number of rainy and wet days,the minimum temperature,and the night and daytime,as well as average,humidity,mostly with a five-to seven-week lag.Additionally,we found correlations between dengue incidence and maximum and average temperatures,hours of sunshine,and wind,with longer lag periods.Dengue incidences showed a negative correlation with wind run.Conclusion:Our results showed that rainfall,temperature,humidity,hours of sunshine,and wind are correlated with local dengue incidence.We have suggested ways to improve dengue management routines and to control it in these times of global warming.We also noticed that the results of dengue weather correlation studies can vary depending on the data analysis.N D B Ehelepola Kusalika Ariyaratne W M N P Buddhadasa Sunil Ratnayake Malani Wickramasinghe 2015Infectious Diseases of Poverty2015,4,1:2
