| 1 | Settling characteristics of ultrafine iron ore slimes显示文摘The slurry settling characteristics are the most important to design a thickener in process industries. In this work, the iron ore slurry from the screw classifier overflow was used for the settling study. It was observed that the original slurry exhibited a low settling velocity and a turbid supernatant during the settling process. Commercial flocculating agents with anionic, cationic, and nonionic characters were used to improve the settling behavior of suspensions, which were added into the slurry at different ranges of slurry pH values, respectively. The settling results show that the use of flocculants increase the settling rate by several times. Compared with the cationic and non-ionic flocculants, the anionic flocculant is more effective in enhancing the slurry settling rate. The small dose of the anionic flocculant is found to be more effective, but the other flocculants are less effective even at higher dosages. | 3 | Soil-Plant-Microbe Interactions in Stressed Agriculture Management:A Review显示文摘The expected rise in temperature and decreased precipitation owing to climate change and unabated anthropogenic activities add complexity and uncertainty to agro-industry. The impact of soil nutrient imbalance, mismanaged use of chemicals, high temperature,flood or drought, soil salinity, and heavy metal pollutions, with regard to food security, is increasingly being explored worldwide. This review describes the role of soil-plant-microbe interactions along with organic manure in solving stressed agriculture problems. Beneficial microbes associated with plants are known to stimulate plant growth and enhance plant resistance to biotic(diseases) and abiotic(salinity, drought, pollutions, etc.) stresses. The plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria(PGPR) and mycorrhizae, a key component of soil microbiota, could play vital roles in the maintenance of plant fitness and soil health under stressed environments. The application of organic manure as a soil conditioner to stressed soils along with suitable microbial strains could further enhance the plant-microbe associations and increase the crop yield. A combination of plant, stress-tolerant microbe, and organic amendment represents the tripartite association to offer a favourable environment to the proliferation of beneficial rhizosphere microbes that in turn enhance the plant growth performance in disturbed agro-ecosystem. Agriculture land use patterns with the proper exploitation of plant-microbe associations, with compatible beneficial microbial agents, could be one of the most effective strategies in the management of the concerned agriculture lands owing to climate change resilience. | 10 | 艾氏天芥菜对顺铂引起的小鼠肾损伤的保护作用(英文)显示文摘目的:该研究旨在评估紫草科药材艾氏天芥菜的甲醇提取物对于顺铂导致小鼠急性肾损伤的保护作用。方法:用腹膜内注射顺铂(16mg/kg)诱导小鼠肾损伤。将瑞士白化小鼠分为正常对照组、顺铂模型对照组、艾氏天芥菜的甲醇提取物治疗组(200和400mg/kg),并给予相应药物。于顺铂注射前4d开始每天予两组治疗组小鼠分别口服艾氏天芥菜的甲醇提取物200及400mg/kg,共服用7d。治疗结束后3d处死小鼠,并取血及肾脏组织,检测分析血尿素氮、血清肌酐和丙二醛水平以及过氧化氢酶和过氧化物歧化酶活性。结果:艾氏天芥菜的甲醇提取物能够显著降低因注射顺铂而引起的小鼠血尿素氮及血清肌酐升高(P<0.05),并且能降低顺铂引起的高丙二醛水平,同时升高降低的过氧化氢酶和过氧化物歧化酶活性(P<0.05)。此外,组织病理学检测显示艾氏天芥菜的甲醇提取物能够明显改善顺铂导致的肾小管坏死。结论:艾氏天芥菜的甲醇提取物可用于缓解顺铂的肾毒性。 | Surendra Kr.Sharma Naveen Goyal | 2012 | 中西医结合学报2012,10,5: | 6 |
| 11 | New insights into estrogenic regulation of O^6-methylguanine DNA-methyltransferase (MGMT) in human breast cancer cells: Co-degradation of ER-α and MGMT proteins by fulvestrant or O^6-benzylguanine indicates fresh avenues for therapy显示文摘Endocrine therapy using estrogen receptor-α(ER-α) antagonists for attenuating horm2one-driven cell proliferation is a major treatment modality for breast cancers.To exploit any DNA repair deficiencies associated with endocrine therapy,we investigated the functional and physical interactions of ER-α with O^6-methylguanine DNA methyltransferase(MGMT),a unique DNA repair protein that confers tumor resistance to various anticancer alkylating agents.The ER-α-positive breast cancer cell lines(MCF-7,T47D) and ER- negative cell lines(MDAMB-468,MDAMB-231),and established inhibitors of ER-α and MGMT,namely,ICI-182,780(Faslodex) and O^6-benzylguanine,respectively,were used to study MGMT- ER interactions.The MGMT gene promoter was found to harbor one full and two half estrogen-responsive elements(EREs) and two antioxidant-responsive elements(AREs).MGMT expression was upregulated by estrogen,downregulated by tamoxifen in Western blot and promoter-linked reporter assays.Similarly,both transient and stable transfections of Nrf-2(nuclear factor-erythroid 2-related factor-2)increased the levels of MGMT protein and activity 3 to 4-fold reflecting novel regulatory nodes for this drugresistance determinant.Of the different ER-α antagonists tested,the pure anti-estrogen fulvestrant was most potent in inhibiting the MGMT activity in a dose,time and ER-α dependent manner,similar to O^6-benzylguanine.Interestingly,fulvestrant exposure led to a degradation of both ER-α and MGMT proteins and O^6-benzylguanine also induced a specific loss of ER-α and MGMT proteins in MCF-7 and T47 D breast cancer cells with similar kinetics.Immunoprecipitation revealed a specific association of ER-α and MGMT proteins in breast cancer cells.Furthermore,silencing of MGMT gene expression triggered a decrease in the levels of both MGMT and ER-α proteins.The involvement of proteasome in the drug-induced degradation of both proteins was also demonstrated.Fulvestrant enhanced the cytotoxicity of MGMT-targeted alkylating agents,namely,temozolomide and BCNU by 3 to 4-fold in ER-α positive cells,but not in ER-negative cells.We conclude that MGMT and ER-α proteins exist as a complex and are co-targeted for ubiquitin-conjugation and subsequent proteasomal degradation.The findings offer a clear rationale for combining alkylating agents with endocrine therapy. | Ameya Paranjpe Nathan I. | 13 | Prediction of the position of coal particles in an air dense medium fluidized bed system显示文摘An air dense medium fluidized bed separator(ADMFBS) is used for dry beneficiation of coal using ultrafine magnetite particles as a pseudo-fluid medium. In this process, the coal particle gains additional weight due to coating on its surface and deposition at dead zone area by fine magnetite particles.Hence, the effective density of coal particle increases and the position of coal particle changes accordingly. In this work, an attempt was made to predict the position of coal particle in non-bubbling condition dense medium fluidized bed system. Coal particles of different shape such as cubical, rectangular prism,spherical and triangular prism with different projected area and density were used. The results show that the position of coal particle in air dense medium fluidized bed follows descending order with respect to the increase of density, projected area of coal particle and different shapes(i.e., triangular prism, cubical,rectangular prism and spherical). | 15 | Pedotransfer Functions for Estimating Soil Hydraulic Properties: A Review显示文摘Characterization of soil hydraulic properties is important to environment management; however, it is well recognized that it is laborious, time-consuming and expensive to directly measure soil hydraulic properties. This paper reviews the development of pedotransfer functions(PTFs) used as an alternative tool to estimate soil hydraulic properties during the last two decades. Modern soil survey techniques like satellite imagery/remote sensing has been used in developing PTFs. Compared to mechanistic approaches,empirical relationships between physical properties and hydraulic properties have received wide preference for predicting soil hydraulic properties. Many PTFs based on different parametric functions can be found in the literature. A number of researchers have pursued a universal function that can describe water retention characteristics of all types of soils, but no single function can be termed generic though van Genuchten(VG) function has been the most widely adopted. Most of the reported parametric PTFs focus on estimation of VG parameters to obtain water retention curve(WRC). A number of physical, morphological and chemical properties have been used as predictor variables in PTFs. Conventionally, regression algorithms/techniques(statistical/neural regression) have been used for calibrating PTFs. However, there are reports of utilizing data mining techniques, e.g., pattern recognition and genetic algorithm.It is inferred that it is critical to refine the data used for calibration to improve the accuracy and reliability of the PTFs. Many statistical indices, including root mean square error(RMSE), index of agreement(d), maximum absolute error(ME), mean absolute error(MAE), coefficient of determination(r^2) and correlation coefficient(r), have been used by different researchers to evaluate and validate PTFs. It is argued that being location specific, research interest in PTFs will continue till generic PTFs are developed and validated. | 17 | Surfactant assisted solvothermal synthesis of ZnO nanoparticles and study of their antimicrobial and antioxidant properties显示文摘This study demonstrated a solvothermal method of growth of three different morphologies of zinc oxide nanoparticles(ZnO NPs): i) flower-like nanorod and nanoflakes, ii) assembled hierarchical structure,and iii) nano granule. Oleic acid(C_(18)H_(34)O_2), gluconic acid(C_6H_(12)O_7) and tween 80(C_(64)H_(124)O_(26)) were used as surfactant/capping/reducing agent for the formation of different morphologies of nanoparticles.The as-synthesized ZnO NPs were characterized by different physicochemical techniques such as UV–vis(UV–vis) spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction(XRD), fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR), field emission scanning electron microscopy(FE-SEM), energy dispersive X-ray(EDX) analysis and dynamic light scattering(DLS) studies. Further, the antioxidant and antimicrobial activity of these nanostructures was evaluated. The antioxidant activity of these nanostructures was assessed via 2,2-diphenyl,1-1 picrylhydrazyl(DPPH), 2,2-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulphonic acid)(ABTS) and H_2O_2 free radical scavenging activity. The in vitro antimicrobial activity of the obtained nanostructures was demonstrated against both gram negative(Escherichia coli) and gram positive(Staphylococcus aureus) bacterial genera.This study revealed antioxidant and antimicrobial properties of different structures of ZnO NPs suggesting their biomedical and industrial applications. | Mina Zare K. | 20 | Mechanical Properties of Micro-regions in Cement-based Material based on the PeakForce QNM Mode of AFM显示文摘In this paper, the cement paste and the mortar were tested using the PF-QNM technique. It is shown that the PF-QNM technique is very powerful to characterize the mechanical properties of micro-and nanostructures in the cement-based materials. It does not have strict requirements for test environment and it does not damage the surface of the material. High-resolution images can be obtained very easily, and they can be analyzed statistically. The test results show that PF-QNM analysis can test not only the mechanical properties of the cement paste, but also investigate the interfacial regions in the cement-based material, including the variation in the mechanical properties of interface regions and the extension of the interfacial regions. During the test, care must be taken to choose the size of test area;indeed, a test area too small is not representative but too large leads to lack of stability.
