BENDING OF FUNCTIONALLY GRADED PIEZOELECTRIC RECTANGULAR PLATES显示文摘By introducing two displacement functions as well as two stress functions, two independentstate equations with variable coefficients are derived from the three-dimensional theory equations of piezo-elasticity for transverse isotropy.A laminated approximation is used to transform the state equations to thosewith constant coefficients in each sub-layer.The bending problem of a functionally graded rectangular plate isthen analyzed based on the state equations.Numerical results are presented and the effect of material gradi-ent index is discussed. | Chen Weiqiu Ding Haojiang | 2000 | Acta Mechanica Solida Sinica2000,13,4: | 37
Three-dimensional analytical solution for a transversely isotropic functionally graded piezoelectric circular plate subject to a uniform electric potential difference显示文摘This paper studies the problem of a functionally graded piezoelectric circular plate subjected to a uniform electric potential difference between the upper and lower surfaces. By assuming the generalized displacements in appropriate forms, five differential equations governing the generalized displacement functions are derived from the equilibrium equations. These displacement functions are then obtained in an explicit form, which still involve four undetermined integral constants, through a step-by-step integration which properly incorporates the boundary conditions at the upper and lower surfaces. The boundary conditions at the cylindrical surface are then used to determine the integral constants. Hence,three-dimen sional analytical solutions for electrically loaded functionally graded piezoelectric circular plates with free or simply-supported edge are completely determined. These solutions can account for an arbitrary material variation along the thickness, and thus can be readily degenerated into those for a homogenous plate. A numerical example is finally given to show the validity of the analysis, and the effect of material inhomogeneity on the elastic and electric fields is discussed. | LI XiangYu DING HaoJiang CHEN WeiQiu | 2008 | Science China(Physics,Mechanics & Astronomy)2008,51,8: | 13
Modeling of multi-inclusion composites with interfacial imperfections:Micromechanical and numerical simulations显示文摘A micromechanical approach based on a two-layer built-in model and a numerical simulation based on boundary element method are proposed to predict the effective properties of the multi-inclusion composite with imperfect interfaces. The spring model is introduced to simulate the interface imperfection. These two methods are compared with each other, and good agreement is achieved. The effects of interface spring stiffness, volume ratio and stiffness of inclusions on the micro-and macro-mechanical behaviors of fiber-reinforced composites are investigated. It is shown that the developed micromechanical method is very comprehensive and efficient for fast prediction of effective properties of composites, while the numerical method is very accurate in detailed modeling of the mechanical behavior of composites with multiple inclusions. | CHEN WeiQiu 1,ZHU XingYi 2 &HUANG ZhiYi 2 1 Department of Engineering Mechanics,Yuquan Campus,Zhejiang University,Hangzhou 310027,China 2 Key Laboratory of Soft Soils and Geoenvironmental Engineering,Ministry of Education Department of Civil Engineering,Zijingang Campus,Zhejiang University,Hangzhou 310058,China | 2010 | Science China(Technological Sciences)2010,53,3: | 8
Fast multipole boundary element analysis of 2D viscoelastic composites with imperfect interfaces显示文摘A fast multipole boundary element method(FMBEM)is developed for the analysis of 2D linear viscoelastic composites with imperfect viscoelastic interfaces. The transformed fast multipole formulations are established using the time domain method. To simulate the viscoelastic behavior of imperfect interfaces that are frequently encountered in practice, the Kelvin type model is introduced. The FMBEM is further improved by incorporating naturally the interaction among inclusions as well as eliminating the phenomenon of material penetration.Since all the integrals are evaluated analytically, high accuracy and fast convergence of the numerical scheme are obtained.Several numerical examples, including planar viscoelastic composites with a single inclusion or randomly distributed multi-inclusions are presented. The numerical results are compared with the developed analytical solutions, which illustrates that the proposed FMBEM is very efficient in determining the macroscopic viscoelastic behavior of the particle-reinforced composites with the presence of imperfect interfaces. The laboratory measurements of the mixture creep compliance of asphalt concrete are also compared with the prediction by the developed model. | ZHU XingYi 1 ,CHEN WeiQiu 2 ,HUANG ZhiYi 1* &LIU YiJun 3 1 Department of Civil Engineering,Zhejiang University,Zijingang Campus,Hangzhou 310058,China 2 Department of Engineering Mechanics,Zhejiang University,Yuquan Campus,Hangzhou 310027,China 3Department of Mechanical Engineering,University of Cincinnati,Cincinnati,Ohio 45221-0072,USA | 2010 | Science China(Technological Sciences)2010,53,8: | 7
Electromechanical Fields Near a Circular PN Junction Between Two Piezoelectric Semiconductors显示文摘We study electromechanical fields near the interface between a circular piezoelectric semiconductor cylinder and another piezoelectric semiconductor in which it is embedded. The cylinder is p-doped. The surrounding material is n-doped. The phenomenological theory of piezoelectric semiconductors consisting of the equations of piezoelectricity and the conservation of charge for holes and electrons is used. The theory is linearized for small carrier concentration perturbations. An analytical solution is obtained, showing the formation of a PN junction near the interface. Various electromechanical fields associated with the junction are calculated. The effects of a few physical parameters are examined. | Yixun Luo Ruoran Cheng Chunli Zhang Weiqiu Chen Jiashi Yang | 2018 | Acta Mechanica Solida Sinica2018,31,2: | 5
Stochastic averaging technique for SDOF strongly nonlinear systems with delayed feedback fractional-order PD controller显示文摘A stochastic averaging technique is proposed to study the randomly excited single-degree-of-freedom(SDOF) strongly nonlinear systems with delayed feedback fractional-order proportional-derivative(PD) controller. The delayed feedback fractional-order PD control force is approximated by an equivalent non-delay feedback control force combining with a quasi-linear elastic force and a quasi-linear damping force. The averaged It? stochastic differential equation for amplitude of the equivalent nonlinear system is derived by the generalized harmonic functions. The analytical stationary probability density function(PDF) is obtained with solving the reduced Fokker-Planck-Kolmogorov(FPK) equation. Two examples of van der Pol oscillator and RayleighDuffing oscillator are studied to illustrate the application and effectiveness of the proposed method. Numerical results display that the proposed method can yield to the high precision, and the time delay could ruin the control effectiveness, but also even amplifies the response of the system more than that of uncontrolled system. Furthermore, the study finds that the parameters of fractional-order α and time delay may cause the stochastic P-bifurcation. It is indicated that the delayed feedback fractional-order PD controller can offer a potentially effective tool for anti-control of stochastic | CHEN LinCong LIANG Xiao ZHU WeiQiu ZHAO YaoBing | 2019 | Science China(Technological Sciences)2019,62,2: | 5

WAVES IN PRE-STRETCHED INCOMPRESSIBLE SOFT ELECTROACTIVE CYLINDERS:EXACT SOLUTION显示文摘This paper studies wave propagation in a soft electroactive cylinder with an underlying finite deformation in the presence of an electric biasing field.Based on a recently proposed nonlinear framework for electroelasticity and the associated linear incremental theory, the basic equations governing the axisymmetric wave motion in the cylinder, which is subjected to homogeneous pre-stretches and pre-existing axial electric displacement, are presented when the electroactive material is isotropic and incompressible.Exact wave solution is then derived in terms of(modified) Bessel functions. For a prototype model of nonlinear electroactive material, illustrative numerical results are given. It is shown that the effect of pre-stretch and electric biasing field could be significant on the wave propagation characteristics. | Weiqiu Chen Huihui Dai | 2012 | Acta Mechanica Solida Sinica2012,25,5: | 4

An equivalent integral-order nonlinear stochastic system is obtained to replace the given system based on the principle of minimum mean-square error. Through stochastic averaging, an averaged Ito equation is deduced. We obtained the Fokker–Planck–Kolmogorov equation connected to the averaged Ito equation and solved it to yield the approximate stationary response of the system. | 11 | Effects of functionally graded materials on dynamics of molecular bond clusters显示文摘Unlike nonspecific adhesion of conventional hard materials in engineering commonly described by JKR and DMT type models, the molecular adhesion via specific receptor-ligand bonds is stochastic by nature and has the feature that its strength strongly depends on the medium stiffness surrounding the adhesion. In this paper,we demonstrate in a stochastic-elasticity framework that a type of materials with linearly graded elastic modulus can be designed to achieve 'equal load sharing' and enhanced cooperative rebinding among interfacial molecular bonds.Upon modulus gradation, multiple molecular bonds can be elastically decoupled but statistically cooperative. In general, uniform molecular adhesion can be accomplished by two strategies:homogeneous materials with sufficient stiffness higher than a threshold or heterogeneous materials satisfying the criterion on modulus gradation. These results not only provide a theoretical principle for possible applications of functionally graded materials in quantitatively controlling cell-matrix adhesion, but also have general implications on adhesion between soft materials mediated by specific molecular binding. | ZHANG WenLiang QIAN Jin YAO HaiMin CHEN WeiQiu GAO HuaJian | 2012 | Science China(Physics,Mechanics & Astronomy)2012,55,6: | 3 |
Electrical Response of a Multiferroic Composite Semiconductor Fiber Under a Local Magnetic Field显示文摘We study the electrical response of a multiferroic composite semiconductor fiber consisting of a piezoelectric semiconductor layer and two piezomagnetic layers under a transverse magnetic field applied locally to a finite part of the fiber. The phenomenological theory of piezomagnetic-piezoelectric semiconductors is employed.A one-dimensional model is derived for magnetically induced extension of the fiber. For open-circuit boundary conditions at the two ends of the fiber,an analytical solution is obtained from the model linearized for small carrier perturbations. The solution shows a local electric polarization and a pair of local electric potential barrier-well.When the two ends of the fiber are under a voltage,a nonlinear numerical solution shows that the potential barrier and well forbid the passage of currents when the voltage is low.The results have potential applications in piezotronic devices when magnetic fields are involved for manipulating the devices or sensing and transduction. | Chao Liang Chunli Zhang Weiqiu Chen Jiashi Yang | 2020 | Acta Mechanica Solida Sinica2020,33,5: | 3

Recursive formulations for the method of reverberation-ray matrix and the application显示文摘A recursive formulation is proposed for the method of reverberation-ray matrix (MRRM) to exactly analyze the free vibration of a multi-span continuous rectangular Kirchhoff plate, which has two oppo- site simply-supported edges. In contrast to the traditional MRRM, numerical stability is achieved by using the present new formulation for high-order frequencies or/and for plates with large span-to-width ratios. The heavy computational cost of storage and memory are also cut down. An improved recursive formulation is further proposed by modifying the iterative formula to reduce the matrix inversion op- erations. Numerical examples are finally given to demonstrate the effectiveness and efficiency of the proposed recursive formulae. | ZHU Jun CHEN WeiQiu YE GuiRu Lü ChaoFeng | 2009 | Science China(Physics,Mechanics & Astronomy)2009,52,2: | 3
A THEORETICAL SOLUTION OF CYLINDRICALLY ISOTROPIC CYLINDRICAL TUBE FOR AXISYMMETRIC PLANE STRAIN DYNAMIC THERMOELASTIC PROBLEM显示文摘A dynamic thermoelastic solution of a cylindrically isotropic cylindrical tube or solid cylinderwith axisymmetric plane deformations is developed.Since there exist thermal boundary conditions and trac-tions on the two surfaces of a cylindrical tube, the problem under consideration is with inhomogeneous bound-ary conditions. Therefore we introduce a special function to transform the inhomogeneous boundary conditionsto homogeneous ones for an unknown function. Then by using the method of separation of variables, the un-known function can be expressed as the multiplication series of Bessel functions and unknown time functions.Thirdly,by virtue of the orthogonal properties of Bessel functions, the equations about these unknown timefunctions are derived and the solutions are obtained. Finally, the displacement is obtained by adding the twoparts mentioned above.By means of the present method, integral transform can be avoided. It is suitable forarbitrary thermal loads and mechanical loads.Numerical results are also presented for thermal shocked,cy-lindrically isotropic cylindrical tube and solid cylinder. | Ding Haojiang Wang Huiming Chen Weiqiu | 2001 | Acta Mechanica Solida Sinica2001,14,4: | 3

Controllable wave propagation in a weakly nonlinear monoatomic lattice chain with nonlocal interaction and active control显示文摘The one-dimensional monoatomic lattice chain connected by nonlinear springs is investigated, and the asymptotic solution is obtained through the Lindstedt-Poincar′e perturbation method. The dispersion relation is derived with the consideration of both the nonlocal and the active control effects. The numerical results show that the nonlocal effect can effectively enhance the frequency in the middle part of the dispersion curve. When the nonlocal effect is strong enough, zero and negative group velocities will be evoked at different points along the dispersion curve, which will provide different ways of transporting energy including the forward-propagation, localization, and backwardpropagation of wavepackets related to the phase velocity. Both the nonlinear effect and the active control can enhance the frequency, but neither of them is able to produce zero or negative group velocities. Specifically, the active control enhances the frequency of the dispersion curve including the point at which the reduced wave number equals zero, and therefore gives birth to a nonzero cutoff frequency and a band gap in the low frequency range. With a combinational adjustment of all these effects, the wave propagation behaviors can be comprehensively controlled, and energy transferring can be readily manipulated in various ways. | Jiao WANG Weijian ZHOU Yang HUANG Chaofeng LYU Weiqiu CHEN Weiqiu ZHU | 2018 | Applied Mathematics and Mechanics(English Edition)2018,39,8: | 2
Surface effect on Bleustein-Gulyaev wave in a piezoelectric half-space显示文摘Surface effect, which is attributed to the different environment surrounding the surface or near-surface atoms from that embracing the bulk atoms, may become significant when the surface-to-volume ratio of a body is large. This paper considers the effect of a plane boundary of a piezoelectric body modeled as a thin layer with specified material properties, for which a transfer relation between the state vectors at the top and bottom surfaces is derived based on the state-space formulations. The equations of surface piezoelectricity for different orders without any bias field are then presented by making use of the power series expression of the transfer matrix. The surface effect is demonstrated by considering the Bleustein-Gulyaev wave existing in a horizontally polarized piezoceramic half-space. | Weiqiu Chen a) Department of Engineering Mechanics,Zhejiang University,Yuquan Campus,Hangzhou 310027,China | 2011 | Theoretical & Applied Mechanics Letters2011,1,4: | 2
PHASE FIELD SIMULATION OF DOMAIN SWITCHING IN FERROELECTRIC SINGLE CRYSTAL WITH ELECTRICALLY PERMEABLE AND IMPERMEABLE CRACKS显示文摘Domain switching around electrically permeable and impermeable cracks in ferro-electric single crystals subjected to a mechanical load is investigated by using a phase field model. It is found that the electrical boundary conditions have little effect on the polarization distribution without any external load when the initial polarization is parallel to the crack, which is totally different from previous studies where the initial polarization is perpendicular to the crack.How-ever,the simulation results show that the electrical boundary conditions have great influence on the polarization distribution as well as the domain switching behavior when a mechanical load is applied. The critical mechanical load of domain switching with a permeable crack is much smaller than that in the case of an impermeable crack. | Hua qiao Jie Wang Weiqiu Chen | 2012 | Acta Mechanica Solida Sinica2012,25,1: | 2
