| 2 | An inside-out vein graft filled with platelet-rich plasma for repair of a short sciatic nerve defect in rats显示文摘Platelet-rich plasma containing various growth factors can promote nerve regeneration. An inside-out vein graft can substitute nerve autograft to repair short nerve defects. It is hypothesized that an inside-out vein graft filled with platelet-rich plasma shows better effects in the repair of short sciatic nerve defects. In this study, an inside-out vein autograft filled with platelet-rich plasma was used to bridge a 10 mm-long sciatic nerve defect in rats. The sciatic nerve function of rats with an inside-out vein autograft filled with platelet-rich plasma was better improved than that of rats with a simple inside-out vein autograft. At 6 and 8 weeks, the sciatic nerve function of rats with an inside-out vein autograft filled with platelet-rich plasma was better than that of rats undergoing nerve autografting. Compared with the sciatic nerve repaired with a simple inside-out vein autograft, the number of myelinated axons was higher, axon diameter and myelin sheath were greater in the sciatic nerve repaired with an inside-out vein autograft filled with platelet-rich plasma and they were similar to those in the sciatic nerve repaired with nerve autograft. | 3 | Metastasis to the gallbladder:A single-center experience of 20 cases in South Korea显示文摘AIM:To evaluate the clinicopathologic characteristics of patients with metastases to the gallbladder (MGBs).METHODS: We performed a single-center retrospective study of 20 patients with MGBs diagnosed pathologically from 1999 to 2007.RESULTS: Among 417 gallbladder (GB) malignancies, 20 (4.8%) were MGBs. The primary malignancies originated from the stomach (n=8), colorectum (n=3), liver (n=2), kidney (n=2), skin (n=2), extrahepatic bile duct (n=1), uterine cervix (n=1), and appendix (n=1). Twelve patients were diagnosed metachronously, presenting with cholecystitis (n=4), abdominal pain (n=2), jaundice (n=1), weight loss (n=1), and serum CA 19-9 elevation (n=1); five patients were asymptomatic. The median survival after the diagnosis of MGB was 8.7 mo. On Cox regression analysis, R0 resection was the only factor associated with a prolonged survival [hazard ratio (HR):0.01,P =0.002]; presentation with cholecystitis was associated with poor survival (HR:463.27, P=0.006).CONCLUSION: MGBs accounted for 4.8% of all pathologically diagnosed GB malignancies. The most common origin was the stomach. | 6 | Effects of nanopores and sulfur doping on hierarchically bunched carbon fibers to protect lithium metal anode显示文摘Studies on three-dimensional structured carbon templates have focused on how to guide homogeneous lithium metal nucleation and growth for lithium metal anodes(LMAs).However,there is still insufficient evidence for a key factor to achieve their high electrochemical performance.Here,the effects of nanopores and sulfur doping on carbon-based nanoporous host(CNH)electrode materials for LMAs were investigated using natural polymer-derived CNHs.Homogeneous pore-filling behaviors of lithium metal in the nanopores of the CNH electrode materials were first observed by ex situ scanning electron microscopy analysis,where the protective lithium metal nucleation and growth process led to significantly high Coulombic efficiency(CE)of~99.4%and stable 600 cycles.In addition,a comparison study of CNH and sulfurdoped CNH(S-CNH)electrodes,which differ only in the presence or absence of sulfur,revealed that sulfur doping can cause lower electrochemical series resistance,higher CE value,and better cycling stability in a wide range of current densities and number of cycles.Moreover,S-CNH-based LMAs showed high electrochemical performance in full-cell Li-S battery tests using a sulfur copolymer cathode,where a high energy density of 1370Wh kgelectrode−1 and an excellent power density of 4120Wkgelectrode−1 were obtained. | Ji In Jung Sunwoo Park Son Ha Se Youn Cho Hyoung-Joon Jin Young Soo Yun | 2021 | Carbon Energy2021,3,5: | 4 |
| 7 | Comparison of litterfall production in three forest types in Jeju Island, South Korea显示文摘Litterfall, which is influenced by physical and biological factors, is a major pathway for carbon and nutrient cycling in forest ecosystems. The purpose of this study was to investigate monthly litterfall production in three forests in Jeju Island differentiated by forest composition and precipitation: Cheongsu(Quercus glauca as the dominant species;low precipitation), Seonheulb(Q. glauca as the dominant species;high precipitation), and Seonheulm(Q. glauca and Pinus thunbergii as the dominant species;high precipitation). Litterfall was collected monthly from April to December 2015 and divided into leaf litter, twig, bark, seeds, and unidentified materials.Seasonal patterns of litterfall production varied across stands according to their species composition. However,the amount of leaf litterfall and total litterfall were comparable among stands, ranging from 362 to 375 g m-2 for leaf litter and 524 g m-2 to 580 g m-2 for total litterfall.Oak leaf litter in May was the highest in all stands, while needle litter was the highest in December in Seonheulm.High twig litterfall in July may be attributable to high rainfall with strong winds and storms during the rainy season. | 9 | Cancer-associated fibroblast-derived secreted phosphoprotein 1 contributes to resistance of hepatocellular carcinoma to sorafenib and lenvatinib显示文摘Background:Cancer-associated fibroblasts(CAFs)play an important role in the induction of chemo-resistance.This study aimed to clarify the mechanism underlying CAF-mediated resistance to two tyrosine kinase inhibitors(TKIs),sorafenib and lenvatinib,and to identify a novel therapeutic target for overcoming TKI resistance in hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC).Methods:We performed a systematic integrative analysis of publicly available gene expression datasets and whole-transcriptome sequencing data from 9 pairs of CAFs and para-cancer fibroblasts isolated from human HCC and para-tumor tissues,respectively,to identify key molecules that might induce resistance to TKIs.We then performed in vitro and in vivo experiments to validate selected targets and related mechanisms.The associations of plasma secreted phosphoprotein 1(SPP1)expression levels before sorafenib/lenvatinib treatment with progression-free survival(PFS)and overall survival(OS)of 54 patients with advanced HCC were evaluated using Kaplan-Meier and Cox regression analysis.Results:Bioinformatic analysis identified CAF-derived SPP1 as a candidate molecule driving TKI resistance.SPP1 inhibitors reversed CAF-induced TKI resistance in vitro and in vivo.CAF-derived SPP1 activated rapidly accelerated fibrosarcoma(RAF)/mitogen-activated protein kinase(MAPK)and phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase(PI3K)/protein kinase B(AKT)/mammalian target of rapamycin(mTOR)through the integrin-protein kinase C-alpha(PKCα)signaling pathway and promoted epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition(EMT).A high plasma SPP1 level before TKI treatment was identified as an independent predictor of poor PFS(P=0.026)and OS(P=0.047)in patients with advanced HCC after TKI treatment.Conclusions:CAF-derived SPP1 enhances TKI resistance in HCC via bypass activation of oncogenic signals and EMT promotion.Its inhibition represents a promising therapeutic strategy against TKI resistance inHCC.Moreover,plasma SPP1 level before TKI treatment represents a potential biomarker for treatment response prediction. | JungWoo Eun Jung Hwan Yoon Hye Ri Ahn Seokhwi Kim Young Bae Kim Su Bin Lim Won Park TaeWook Kang Geum Ok Baek Moon Gyeong Yoon Ju A Son Ji HyangWeon Soon Sun Kim Hyo Jung Cho Jae Youn Cheong | 2023 | Cancer Communications2023,43,4: | 2 |
