1Quadrature-based moment methods for the population balance equation: An algorithm review显示文摘The dispersed phase in multiphase flows can be modeled by the population balance model(PBM). A typical population balance equation(PBE) contains terms for spatial transport, loss/growth and breakage/coalescence source terms. The equation is therefore quite complex and difficult to solve analytically or numerically. The quadrature-based moment methods(QBMMs) are a class of methods that solve the PBE by converting the transport equation of the number density function(NDF) into moment transport equations. The unknown source terms are closed by numerical quadrature. Over the years, many QBMMs have been developed for different problems, such as the quadrature method of moments(QMOM), direct quadrature method of moments(DQMOM),extended quadrature method of moments(EQMOM), conditional quadrature method of moments(CQMOM),extended conditional quadrature method of moments(ECQMOM) and hyperbolic quadrature method of moments(Hy QMOM). In this paper, we present a comprehensive algorithm review of these QBMMs. The mathematical equations for spatially homogeneous systems with first-order point processes and second-order point processes are derived in detail. The algorithms are further extended to the inhomogeneous system for multiphase flows, in which the computational fluid dynamics(CFD) can be coupled with the PBE. The physical limitations and the challenging numerical problems of these QBMMs are discussed. 2工业废油异构旋流三相分离装置去固结构及优化显示文摘工业废油脱水去固处理是其资源化工艺的重要环节,为高效地去除废油乳化液中的水和固体颗粒杂质,提出一种能够实现油-水-固相高效分离的异构旋流三相分离装置。装置结构及其参数是影响油-水-固三相分离效率的关键因素。于是,通过耦合多相流控制方程、群体平衡和稀疏颗粒条件下的颗粒追踪方程,忽略颗粒对整体质量守恒和动量守恒的影响,建立了异构旋流三相分离数值模型,通过模型考察了分离装置去固段结构对去固脱水效率的影响,并进一步优化了分离装置去固段的结构参数。计算与实验结果表明:装置去固段结构的变化会显著影响异构旋流三相分离装置的去固性能,对脱水率的影响不明显;最佳底流管、去固管和侧流管直径分别为6、15和6 mm时,装置侧流口的固体颗粒回收率和脱油率同时达到最高,可达87%以上,为设计研制高性能工业废油资源化装置提供理论和技术支撑。龚海峰 罗鑫 彭烨 余保 杨阳 张浩华 2022化工学报2022,73,11:3
3Hydrodynamics of air-kerosene bubble column under elevated pressure in homogeneous flow regime显示文摘A multiphase computational fluid dynamics(CFD)model coupled with the population balance equation(PBE)was developed in a homogeneous air-kerosene bubble column under elevated pressure(P).The specific pressure drop(ΔP/L),gas holdup(α_(G)),and Sauter mean diameter(d_(32))were experimentally measured in the bubble column with 1.8 m height and 0.1 m inner diameter,which was operated at a superficial gas velocity of 12.3 mm·s^(-1),and P=1-35 bar(1 bar=10^(5) Pa).A modified drag coefficient model was proposed to consider the effect of bubble swarm and pressure on hydrodynamics of the bubble column.The Luo breakage model was modified to account for liquid density,viscosity,surface tension and gas density.TheΔP/L,α_(G),and d_(32) obtained from the CFD model were compared with experimental data,and the gas density-dependent parameters of the CFD model were identified.With increasing P from 1 to 35 bar,theα_(G) varied from 5.4%to 7.2% and the d32 decreased from 2.3 to 1.5 mm.The CFD-PBE model is applicable to predict hydrodynamics of pressurized bubble columns for gas-organic liquid in the homogeneous regime.Bay Van Tran Son Ich Ngo Young-Il Lim Keon Bae Dong Hyun Lee Kang-Seok Go Nam-Sun Nho 2021Chinese Journal of Chemical Engineering2021,34,5:1
4Euler’s First-Order Explicit Method–Peridynamic Differential Operator for Solving Population Balance Equations of the Crystallization Process显示文摘Using Euler’s first-order explicit(EE)method and the peridynamic differential operator(PDDO)to discretize the time and internal crystal-size derivatives,respectively,the Euler’s first-order explicit method–peridynamic differential operator(EE–PDDO)was obtained for solving the one-dimensional population balance equation in crystallization.Four different conditions during crystallization were studied:size-independent growth,sizedependent growth in a batch process,nucleation and size-independent growth,and nucleation and size-dependent growth in a continuous process.The high accuracy of the EE–PDDO method was confirmed by comparing it with the numerical results obtained using the second-order upwind and HR-van methods.The method is characterized by non-oscillation and high accuracy,especially in the discontinuous and sharp crystal size distribution.The stability of the EE–PDDO method,choice of weight function in the PDDO method,and optimal time step are also discussed.Chunlei Ruan Cengceng Dong Kunfeng Liang Zhijun Liu Xinru Bao 2024Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences2024,138,3:0
5Influences of top clearance and liquid throughput on the performances of an external loop airlift slurry reactor integrated mixing and separation显示文摘A new developed external loop airlift slurry reactor, which was integrated with gas–liquid–solid three-phase mixing, mass transfer, and liquid–solid separation simultaneously, was deemed to be a promising slurry reactor due to its prominent advantages such as achieving continuous separation of clear liquid from slurry and cyclic utilization of solid particles without any extra energy, energy-saving, and intrinsic safety design. The principal operating parameters, including gas separator volume, handling capacity, and superficial gas velocity, are systematically investigated here to promote the capabilities of mixing, mass transfer, and yield in the pilot external loop airlift slurry reactor. The influences of top clearance and throughput of the clear liquid on flow regime and gas holdup in the riser, liquid circulating velocity, and volumetric mass transfer coefficient with a typical high solid holdup and free of particles are examined experimentally. It was found that increasing the gas separator volume could promote the liquid circulating velocity by about 14.0% at most. Increasing the handling capacity of the clear liquid from 0.9 m3·h-1 to 3.0 m3·h-1 not only could increase the output without any adverse consequences, but also could enhance the liquid circulating velocity as much as 97.3%.
