| 1 | Viscous numerical examination of hydrodynamic forces on a submerged horizontal circular cylinder undergoing forced oscillation显示文摘As a classical topic,the hydrodynamic forces on a submerged horizontal cylinder undergoing forced oscillation have been widely studied based on potential flow theory.However,the fluid viscosity and the flow rotation may play an important role when the oscillation amplitude of the circular cylinder is large,and large discrepancy will occur between the potential flow simulation and the experimental results.This study focuses on the study of hydrodynamic forces on a submerged horizontal circular cylinder undergoing forced oscillation by means of a viscous fluid numerical wave tank(NWT)model.The accuracy of the numerical model is validated against available experimental data.The comparisons between the hydrodynamic forces on the circular cylinder predicted by the viscous fluid model and the potential flow model are conducted to show the viscous effects on the hydrodynamic forces.By the study on the flow fields,the mechanism of the viscous effects is explained by the vortex effect.The basic reason for the difference between the results based on the viscous fluid theory and the potential flow theory is revealed by analyzing the force components. | Bin Teng Hong-fei Mao De-zhi Ning Chong-wei Zhang | 2019 | Journal of Hydrodynamics2019,31,5: | 4 |
| 2 | THE LOSS OF STABILITY OF LAMINAR FLOW IN OPEN CHANNEL AND THE MECHANISM OF SAND RIPPLE FORMATION显示文摘In the flow on a mobile bed in an open channel, sand ripple often appears after the sediment begins to move. Different scholars have different views on the formation of sand ripples. This paper holds that as the ripple in general is very small, its formation is due to the instability of the laminar flow or the evolution of the small-scale coherent structures in the sublayer adjacent to the wall of the open channel. When the shear stresses caused by the disturbing waves or the coherent structure near the bed surface boundary and the water flow itself are greater than the shields stresses, responses on the bed surface appear and the sand ripple forms. If the frequency of the shear stress caused by the disturbance is close to the natural frequency of the sand grains that produced resonance, such a phenomenon is called the 'detection property' of the sediment. | 4 | Hydrodynamics of the Semi-Immersed Cylinder by Forced Oscillation Model Testing显示文摘In this paper, the hydrodynamic coefficients of a horizontal semi-immersed cylinder in steady current and oscillatory flow combining with constant current are obtained via forced oscillation experiments in a towing tank. Three nondimensional parameters(Re, KC and Fr) are introduced to investigate their effects on the hydrodynamic coefficients.The experimental results show that overtopping is evident and dominates when the Reynolds number exceeds 5×105 in the experiment. Under steady current condition, overtopping increases the drag coefficient significantly at high Reynolds numbers. The results from simulations show that the oscillatary heating source maycause oscillations in east-west zonal circulation at the equator, in cross-equatorial flow, in meridionalmonsoon circulation and in the phase of high-low level circulation over Asia, with period same as that ofthe oscillating heat source. Furthermore, the influence mechanism of the tropical heating source associatedwith oscillations on Asian summer monsoon circulation is also studicd. It is clearly shown that the west-ward propagation of thermally-forced Rossy waves to the west of the oscillatary heating source and thenorthward propagation of disturbances can give rise to oscillations of the equatorial east-west zonal circula-tion and monsoonal meridional circulation.
