1Simultaneous removal of Congo red and cadmium(Ⅱ) from aqueous solutions using graphene oxide–silica composite as a multifunctional adsorbent显示文摘Graphene oxide is a very high capacity adsorbent due to its functional groups and π-π interactions with other compounds. Adsorption capacity of graphene oxide, however, can be further enhanced by having synergistic effects through the use of mixed-matrix composite. In this study, silica-decorated graphene oxide(SGO) was used as a high-efficiency adsorbent to remove Congo red(CR) and Cadmium(Ⅱ) from aqueous solutions. The effects of solution initial concentration(20 to 120 mg/l), solution pH(pH 2 to 7), adsorption duration(0 to 140 min) and temperature(298 to 323 K) were measured in order to optimize the adsorption conditions using the SGO adsorbent. Morphological analysis indicated that the silica nanoparticles could be dispersed uniformly on the graphene oxide surfaces. The maximum capacities of adsorbent for effective removal of Cd(Ⅱ) and CR were 43.45 and 333.33 mg/g based on Freundlich and Langmuir isotherms, respectively. Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms displayed the highest values of Q max for CR and Cd(Ⅱ) adsorption in this study, which indicated monolayer adsorption of CR and multilayer adsorption of Cd(II) onto the SGO, respectively. Thermodynamic study showed that the enthalpy( H) and Gibbs free energy( G) values of the adsorption process for both pollutants were negative, suggesting that the process was spontaneous and exothermic in nature. 2Fusarium wilt of banana:Current update and sustainable disease control using classical and essential oils approaches显示文摘Fusarium species were reported to produce biofilms.Biofilms are superficial societies of microbes bounded and endangered by being situated or taking place outside a cell or cells.The most destructive fungal diseases caused by phytopathogens are as a result of biofilms formation.Fusarium wilt of banana(Panama disease)is caused by a soil-borne pathogen called Fusarium oxysporum f.sp.cubense.Fusarium oxysporum occurs in a form of a species complex(FOSC)which encompasses a crowd of strains.Horizontal genetic factor transfer may donate to the observed assortment in pathogenic strains,while sexual reproduction is unknown in the FOSC.Fusarium wilt is a notorious disease on several crops worldwide.Yield loss caused by this pathogen is huge,and significant to destroy crop yields annually,thereby affecting the producer countries in various continents of the world.The disease is also resistant to various synthetic chemical fungicides.However,excessive use of synthetic fungicides during disease control could be lethal to humans,animals,and plants.This calls for alternative eco-friendly management of this disease by targeting the biofilms formation and finally suppressing this devastating phytopathogen.In this review,we,therefore,described the damage caused by Fusarium wilt disease,the concept of filamentous fungal biofilms,classical control strategies,sustainable disease control strategies using essential oils,and prevention and control of vegetables Fusarium wilt diseases.Abubakar Abubakar Ismaila Khairulmazmi Ahmad Yasmeen Siddique Muhammad Aswad Abdul Wahab Abdulaziz Bashir Kutawa Adamu Abdullahi Syazwan Afif Mohd Zobir Arifin Abdu Siti Nor Akmar Abdullah 2023Horticultural Plant Journal2023,9,1:2

6Osmotic concentration of succinic acid by forward osmosis:Influence of feed solution pH and evaluation of seawater as draw solution显示文摘In this study, we investigated the essential role of feed solution pH so as to gain insights into the transport mechanisms of succinic acid concentration by osmotically-driven forward osmosis(FO) process. FO performances including water flux and bidirectional transport of succinate and chloride anions were systematically examined using cellulose triacetate-based FO membrane. Additionally, real seawater was explored as draw solution. Experimental results revealed that the p H-dependent speciation of succinic acid can affect the FO performances. Ionization of succinic acid at higher solution p H enhanced the osmotic pressure of feed solution, thus leading to lower water flux performance. A strong effect was pointed out on the succinate rejection for which nearly 100% rejections were achieved at p H above its pK_(a2) value. The rejection of succinate increased in the following order of chemical form: C_2H_4 C_2O_4H_2 < C_2H_4C_2O_4H~ˉ < C_2H_4C_2O_4^(2-).With real seawater as the draw solution, low to moderate water fluxes(<4 L·m^(-2)·h^(-1)) were observed.The divalent succinate anion was highly retained in the feed side despite differences in the succinic acid feed concentration at p H of approximately 6.90.Jeng Yih Law Abdul Wahab Mohammad 2018Chinese Journal of Chemical Engineering2018,26,5:1
7Electromagnetic Time Reversal Algorithms and Source Localization in Lossy Dielectric Media显示文摘The problem of reconstructing the spatial support of an extended radiating electric current source density in a lossy dielectric medium from transient boundary measurements of the electric fields is studied. A time reversal algorithm is proposed to localize a source density from loss-less wave-field measurements. Further, in order to recover source densities in a lossy medium, we first build attenuation operators thereby relating loss-less waves with lossy ones. Then based on asymptotic expansions of attenuation operators with respect to attenuation parameter, we propose two time reversal strategies for localization.
