| 1 | Isolation and characterization of halophilic Bacillus sp.BS3 able to produce pharmacologically important biosurfactants显示文摘Objective:To characterize the pharmacological importance of biosurfactants isolated from halophilic Bacillus sp BS3.Methods:Halophilic Bacillus sp.BS3 was isolated from solar salt works,identified by 16S rRNA sequencing and was used for screening their biosurfactant production.Characters of the biosurfactant and their anticancer activity were analyzed and performed in mammary epithelial carcinoma cell at different concentrations.Results:The biosurfactant were characterized by TLC,FTIR and GC-MS analysis and identified as lipopeptide type.GC-MS analysis revealed that,the biosurfactant had various compounds including 13Docosenamide.(Z);Mannosamine,9- and N,N,N',N'-tetramethyl.Surprisingly the antiviral activity was found against shrimp white spot syndrome virus(WSSV) by suppressing the viral replication and significantly raised shrimp survival(P<0.01).Anticancer activity performed in the mammary epithelial carcinoma cell at different concentrations of biosurfactants,among the various concentrations of biosurfactants such as 0.000 25,0.002 5,0.025,0.25 and 2.5 μ g,the 0.25 μ g concentration suppressed the cells significantly(P<0.05) to 24.8%.Conclusions:Based on the findings,the present study concluded that,there is a possibility to develop eco-friendly antimicrobial and anticancer drugs from the extremophilic origin. | MBS Donio SFA Ronica V Thanga Viji S Velmurugan J Adlin Jenifer M Michaelbabu T Citarasu | 2013 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2013,6,11: | 5 |

| 6 | Antidiabetic and antioxidant activities of Nypa fruticans Wurmb. vinegar sample from Malaysia显示文摘Objective: To study the antidiabetic and antioxidant activities of nipa palm vinegar(NPV) used in traditional Malay medicine for treating diabetes. Methods: NPV was extracted using liquid-liquid extraction method and the obtained samples were subjected to antidiabetic studies using normal and streptozotocin-induced diabetic rat models whereas antidoxidant activities were investigated via in vitro antioxidant tests namely 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl and 2,2'-azinobis-3-ethylbenzothiozoline-6-sulfonic acid free radicals scavenging activities and the reducing power assay. Results: Single administration of NPV and its extracts were not effective in both normal and diabetic rats. In intraperitoneal glucose tolerance test, NPV and its aqueous extract showed significant blood glucose lowering effect. In the sub-acute study, compared with the diabetic control, aqueous extract of NPV showed the most notable blood glucose lowering effect(56.6%) and a significant improvement in serum insulin levels(79.8%, P<0.05). To assess NPV's antioxidant activity, three in vitro antioxidant tests were employed: 2,2-diphenyl-1-picryhydrazyl and 2,2'-azinobis-3-ethylbenzothiozoline-6-sulfonic acid free radical-scavenging assays, and the reducing power assay. Ethyl acetate extract had the greatest antioxidant potential and content of phenolic and flavonoid compounds. A linear positive correlation between the antioxidant parameters was observed. Chemical profiling analysis of aqueous extract of NPV revealed the presence of acetic acid(35.25%), the main active constituent which significantly contributed to the observed antidiabetic activity. Conclusions: Aqueous extract of NPV possesses antihyperglycaemic activities comparable to the metformin, while the ethyl acetate extract precipitated significant antioxidant effects attributable to its high phenolic content. | 10 | Activity optimization method in SPECT:A comparison with ROC analysis显示文摘A discriminant method for optimizing activity in nuclear medicine studies is validated by comparison with ROC (received operating characteristic)-curves. The method is tested in 21 single photon emission computerized tomography (SPECT), performed with a cardiac phantom. Three different lesions (L1, L2 and L3) were placed in the myocardium-wall by pairs for each SPECT. Three activities (84, 37 or 18.5 MBq) of 99mTc were used as background. Linear discriminant analysis was used to select the parameters that characterize image quality among the measured variables in the images [(Background-to-Lesion (B/Li) and Signal-to-Noise (Si/N) ratios)]. Two clusters with different image quality (P=0.021) were obtained. The ratios B/L1, B/L2 and B/L3 are the parameters used to construct the function with 100% of cases correctly classified into the clusters. The value of 37 MBq was the lowest tested activity for which good results for the B/Li ratios were obtained. | 11 | Usage of topical insulin for the treatment of diabetic keratopathy,including corneal epithelial defects显示文摘BACKGROUND Diabetic keratopathy(DK)occurs in 46%-64%of patients with diabetes and requires serious attention.In patients with diabetes,the healing of corneal epithelial defects or ulcers takes longer than in patients without diabetes.Insulin is an effective factor in wound healing.The ability of systemic insulin to rapidly heal burn wounds has been reported for nearly a century,but only a few studies have been performed on the effects of topical insulin(TI)on the eye.Treatment with TI is effective in treating DK.AIM To review clinical and experimental animal studies providing evidence for the efficacy of TI to heal corneal wounds.METHODS National and international databases,including PubMed and Scopus,were searched using relevant keywords,and additional manual searches were conducted to assess the effectiveness of TI application on corneal wound healing.Journal articles published from January 1,2000 to December 1,2022 were examined.The relevancy of the identified citations was checked against predetermined eligibility standards,and relevant articles were extracted and reviewed.RESULTS A total of eight articles were found relevant to be discussed in this review,including four animal studies and four clinical studies.According to the studies conducted,TI is effective for corneal re-epithelialization in patients with diabetes based on corneal wound size and healing rate.CONCLUSION Available animal and clinical studies have shown that TI promotes corneal wound healing by several mechanisms.The use of TI was not associated with adverse effects in any of the published cases.Further studies are needed to enhance our knowledge and understanding of TI in the healing of DK. | Ching Yee Leong Ainal Adlin Naffi Wan Haslina Wan Abdul Halim Mae-Lynn Catherine Bastion | 2023 | World Journal of Diabetes2023,14,6: | 0 |
