10Evaluation of intratesticular chlorhexidine gluconate for chemical contraception in dogs显示文摘Objective:To investigate the contraceptive effect of intratesticular injection of chlorhexidine gluconate in dogs and compare it with that of zinc gluconate neutralized with arginine.Methods:Twenty-four sexually mature male mongrel dogs were randomly divided by replicate into four groups(n=6 per group).GroupⅡreceived intra-testicular injection of 2 mL zinc gluconate(10 mg/mL)neutralized with arginine.GroupⅡreceived intratesticular injection of 2 mL chlorhexidine gluconate(5%w/v).GroupⅢreceived intratesticular injection of 2 mL chlorhexidine gluconate(4%w/v).GroupⅣdid not receive any treatment and served as the control group.Testicular morphometry was conducted on day 0,7,15 and 30 after treatment.Semen was collected and evaluated on day 0 and 30.Data were analyzed using repeated measures analysis of variance.Results:There was no difference in the mean values of various parameters between dogs treated with zinc gluconate and those treated with chlorhexidine gluconate at any of the time points.In dogs treated with zinc gluconate or chlorhexidine gluconate,there was a significant increase in the testicular morphometric parameters on day 7 followed by a significant reduction thereafter(day 15 and 30).In contrast,there was no change in any of the parameters in the control untreated dogs during the course of the study.Compared to the pre-treatment values,the mean scrotal circumference and the mean paired testicular volume and testicular weight on day 30 were significantly lower in the treated dogs.Semen samples collected on day 30 from treated dogs were found to be azoospermic,whereas no change in semen quality was observed in the control untreated dogs.Conclusions:Intratesticular injection of chlorhexidine gluconate(5%w/v and 4%w/v)is equally as effective as zinc gluconate neutralized with arginine for chemical contraception in dogs.Aeknath Virendra Om Prakash Shrivastava Satya Nidhi Shukla Manish Kumar Shukla Nitin Kumar Bajaj Afroza Khanam Firdous Ahmad Khan 2022Asian pacific Journal of Reproduction2022,11,5:1

17In vivo analysis of toxic effect of hydrose used in food preparations in Bangladesh显示文摘Objective:To evaluate the toxic effect of hydrose used in the molasses preparation in Bangladesh.Methods:Molasses were collected from open markets in different parts of Bangladesh.The presence of hydrose in selected molasses was detected using commercial kit.To evaluate the toxic effect of hydrose.Swiss albino male mice were divided into four groups.Group Ⅰ was used as control,while Groups Ⅱ,Ⅲ and Ⅳ received hydrose mixing food(5.10 and 25 g/kg food),respectively,and these supplementations were continued to the end of the study(16weeks).Blood was collected from thoracic arteries of the mice under ether anesthesia and then organs were taken.To determine the effect of hydrose on host,blood indices related to liver,heart and kidney dysfunctions were measured.Result:Creatinine and urea levels were significantly(P<0.05) increased in a dose dependent manner in hydrose treated mice,whereas calcium level was significantly decreased in hydrose exposed mice compared to control mice.Histological study of kidney showed the glomeruler inflammation,increased diameter of renal glomeruli and enlargement of proximal tubular lumen of kidneys of mice exposed to hydrose compared to that of control animals.Conclusion:The results of this study indicated that use of hydrose in molasses and other food preparations in Bangladesh may cause kidney impairment.Tuhin Reza Sharmin Aktar Hasan Al Amin Mashiur Rahman Afroza Arefin Nayan Chandra Mohanto Shahnur Alam Abdullah Al Mamun Anwar Habib Asafudullah Farjana Nikkon Khaled Hossain Zahangir Alam Saud 2014Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2014,4,11:0
18Finding the real COVID-19 case-fatality rates for SAARC countries显示文摘The crude case fatality rate(CFR),because of the calculation method,is the most accurate when the pandemic is over since there is a possibility of the delay between disease onset and outcomes.Adjusted crude CFR measures can better explain the pandemic situation by improving the CFR estimation.However,no study has thoroughly investigated the COVID-19 adjusted CFR of the South Asian Association For Regional Cooperation(SAARC)countries.This study estimated both survival interval and underreporting adjusted CFR of COVID-19 for these countries.Moreover,we assessed the crude CFR between genders and across age groups and observed the CFR changes due to the imposition of fees on COVID-19 tests in Bangladesh.Using the daily records up to October 9,we implemented a statistical method to remove the delay between disease onset and outcome bias,and due to asymptomatic or mild symptomatic cases,reporting rates lower than 50%(95%CI:10%–50%)bias in crude CFR.We found that Afghanistan had the highest CFR,followed by Pakistan,India,Bangladesh,Nepal,Maldives,and Sri Lanka.Our estimated crude CFR varied from 3.708%to 0.290%,survival interval adjusted CFR varied from 3.767%to 0.296%and further underreporting adjusted CFR varied from 1.096%to 0.083%.Furthermore,the crude CFRs for men were significantly higher than that of women in Afghanistan(4.034%vs.2.992%)and Bangladesh(1.739%vs.1.337%)whereas the opposite was observed in Maldives(0.284%vs.0.390%),Nepal(0.006%vs.0.007%),and Pakistan(2.057%vs.2.080%).Besides,older age groups had higher risks of death.Moreover,crude CFR increased from 1.261%to 1.572%after imposing the COVID-19 test fees in Bangladesh.Therefore,the authorities of countries with higher CFR should be looking for strategic counsel from the countries with lower CFR to equip themselves with the necessary knowledge to combat the pandemic.Moreover,caution is needed to report the CFR.Md Rafil Tazir Shah Tanvir Ahammed Aniqua Anjum Anisa Ahmed Chowdhury Afroza Jannat Suchana 2021Biosafety and Health2021,3,3:0
