1Investigation of operational parameters for an industrial CFB combustor of coal,biomass and sludge显示文摘The combustion of coal and/or biomass (sludge, wood waste, RDF, etc.) in a circulating fluidized bed has been a commercial topper for over20 years, and references to principles and applications are numerous and widespread although few data are presented concerning the operation oflarge scale CFB-units. The authors studied the CFB-combustion at UPM-Kymmene (Ayr), a major paper mill relying for its steam production uponthe combustion of coal (80-85%), wood bark (5-10%) and wastewater treatment sludge (5-10%). The maximum capacity of the CFB is 58 MWth.A complete diagnostic of the operation was made, and additional tests were performed to assess the operating mode. The plant schematics,relevant dimensions and process data are given. To assess the operation of the UPM-CFB, it is important to review essential design parameters andprinciples of CFB combustors, which will be discussed in detail to include required data, heat balance and flowrates, operating versus transportvelocity, kinetics and conversion (including the possible effect of the Bouduard reaction if carbon is present).Since the residence time in the riser and the cyclone efficiency determine the burnout of circulating fuel-particles, the UPM-CFB was subjectedto a stimulus response technique using nickel oxide as tracer. Results illustrate the efficiency of the cyclone separation and the number of recycleloops for particles of a given size. 2CFB cyclones at high temperature:Operational results and design assessment显示文摘Pressure drop and cut size measurements are reported for a full scale cyclone operating within a 58 MWth CFB-combustor unit at 775℃.The paper reviews the vast number of equations to calculate the pressure drop and separation efficiency of cyclones,generally for operation at ambient temperature and at low Cs <0.5 .None of the literature correlations predicts the pressure drop with a fair accuracy within the range of experimental operating conditions.The cut size d50 can be estimated using direct empirical methods or using the Stokes number,Stk50.Both methods were used to compare measured and predicted values of d50.With the exception of Muschelknautz and Krambrock,none of the equations made accurate predictions.Finally,an alternative method to determine the friction factor of the pressure drop equation(Euler number,Eu) and of the cut size is proposed.The Eu number is determined from the geometry of common cyclones,and the derived value of Stk50 defines more accurate cut sizes.The remaining discrepancy of less than 5%,when compared with the measured values,is tentatively explained in terms of a reduced cyclone diameter due to the solids layer formed near its wall.Further measurements,mostly using positron emission particle tracking,elucidate the particle motion in the cyclone and both tracking results and the influence of the particle movement on Eu and Stk50 will be discussed in a follow-up paper.Raf Dewil Jan Baeyens Bart Caerts 2008Particuology2008,6,3:5
3PEPT study of particle motion for different riser exit geometries显示文摘Laboratory and industrial risers are equipped with exits of many different layouts,and numerous publications discuss the influence of riser exit geometry on local and overall solids hydrodynamics in the riser.The present paper reviews literature findings-mostly based upon indirect experimental techniques and often somewhat contradictory.Direct measurement of particle velocity and particle occupancy near and in the riser exit provide a better indication of the effect of riser exit geometry.Positron Emission Particle Tracking(PEPT)was used in this work for the first time to investigate the exit region of the riser.An abrupt or sharp exit causes particles to be knocked out of the gas flow,so forming a recirculation or reflux region in the upper part of the riser.This is much less pronounced with a curved or gradual exit.Chian Wen Chan Anke Brems Shiva Mahmoudi Jan Baeyens Jonathan Seville David Parker Thomas Leadbeater Joseph Gargiuli 2010Particuology2010,8,6:5

5Particles in a circulation loop for solar energy capture and storage显示文摘This study defines and assesses the selection ciiteria for suitable particulate materials to be used in an upflow bubbling fluidized bed (UBFB) or dense up-flow powder circulation system for solar energy capture and storage. The main criteria identified are based on the thermophysical and thermomechanical properties, attrition behavior, and the considerations of health and environmental hazards of the candidate powders. Finally, a cost comparison and tentative ranking of the different can didate powders is presented in addition to a weighted scoring. Significant scoring differences can be observed between the various materials. 11Solids flow diagram of a CFB riser using Geldart B-type powders显示文摘Riser operating modes are vital to designing a circulating fluidized bed (CFB) reactor for a required process of either a gas-solid or a gas-catalytic nature. Different operating modes provide different solids' residence times and mixing behaviors, which define the reactions' efficiency and yield. The literature demonstrates distinct operating modes resulting from observed differences in slip factors and the range of particle velocities and their associated residence time distribution. The present research uses positron emission particle tracking (PEPT) in a riser of B-type bed material to determine the different operating modes by measuring (i) particle velocities and residence time distribution, (ii) population densities of these particles in the cross-sectional area of the riser, and (iii) solids flow pattern at the bottom of the riser. Data treatment defines four distinct solids hold-up regimes in the riser and proposes a 'phase diagram' depicting the existence of the different operating modes (dilute, dense, core-annulus and combined) as a function of the superficial gas velocity and solids circulation flux in the riser. The delineated regimes have good agreement with available literature data and known industrial operations. Comparison with literature data for risers using A-type powders is also fair.
