1Mangiferin,a natural xanthone,accelerates gastrointestinal transit in mice involving cholinergic mechanism显示文摘AIM:To investigate the effects of mangiferin on gastrointestinal transit(GIT) in normal and constipated mice,together with the possible mechanism.METHODS:Intragastrically-administered charcoal mealwas used to measure GIT in overnight starved Swiss mice.In the first experiments,mangiferin(3 mg/kg,10 mg/kg,30 mg/kg,and 100 mg/kg,po) or tegaserod(1 mg/kg,ip) were administered 30 min before the charcoal meal to study their effects on normal transit.In the second series,mangiferin(30 mg/kg) was tested on delayed GIT induced by several different pharmacological agonists(morphine,clonidine,capsaicin) or antagonists(ondansetron,verapamil,and atropine) whereas in the third series,mangiferin(30 mg/kg,100 mg/kg and 300 mg/kg) or tegaserod(1 mg/kg) were tested on 6 h fecal pellets outputted by freely fed mice.The ratio of wet to dry weight was calculated and used as a marker of fecal water content.RESULTS:Mangiferin administered orally significantly(P < 0.05) accelerated GIT at 30 mg/kg and 100 mg/kg(89% and 93%,respectively),similarly to 5-hydroxytryptamine4(5-HT4) agonist tegaserod(81%) when compared to vehicle-treated control(63%).Co-administered mangiferin(30 mg/kg) totally reversed the inhibitory effect of opioid agonist morphine,5-HT3-receptor antagonist ondansetron and transient receptor potential vanilloid-1 receptor agonist capsaicin on GIT,but only to a partial extent with the GIT-delay induced by 2-adrenoceptor agonist clonidine,and calcium antagonist verapamil.However,co-administered atropine completely blocked the stimulant effect of mangiferin on GIT,suggesting the involvement of muscarinic acetylcholine receptor activation.Although mangiferin significantly enhanced the 6 h fecal output at higher doses(245.5 ± 10.43 mg vs 161.9 ± 10.82 mg and 227.1 ± 20.11 mg vs 161.9 ± 10.82 mg of vehicle-treated control,at 30 and 100 mg/kg,P < 0.05,respectively),the effect of tegaserod was more potent(297.4 ± 7.42 mg vs 161.9 ± 10.82 mg of vehicle-treated control,P < 0.05).Unlike tegaserod,which showed an enhanced water content in fecal pellets(59.20% ± 1.09% vs 51.44% ± 1.19% of control,P < 0.05),mangiferin evidenced no such effect,indi-cating that it has only a motor and not a secretomotor effect.CONCLUSION:Our data indicate the prokinetic action of mangiferin.It can stimulate the normal GIT and also overcome the drug-induced transit delay,via a cholinergic physiological mechanism.Talita Cavalcante Morais Synara Cavalcante Lopes Karine Maria Martins Bezerra Carvalho Bruno Rodrigues Arruda Francisco Thiago Correia de Souza Maria Teresa Salles Trevisan Vietla Satyanarayana Rao Flávia Almeida Santos 2012World Journal of Gastroenterology2012,18,25:3
2Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease in asymptomatic Brazilian adolescents显示文摘AIM:To evaluate the prevalence and clinical characteristics of Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD) among asymptomatic Brazilian adolescents. METHODS:Transversal observational study included asymptomatic adolescents with central obesity from private and public schools in Salvador-Bahia,northeastern Brazil.The children answered a questionnaire that included age,gender,race,and medical history,and were submitted to a complete physical exam and abdominal ultrasound.Biochemical exams included:ALT,AST,GGT,C reactive protein(CRP),fasting glucose,insulin,cholesterol and triglycerides.Criteria for NAFLD included:the presence of steatosis in ultrasound and/or high level of ALT,negative or occasional historic of intake of alcohol(≤140 g/wk),negative investigation for hepatitis A,B,C,auto-immune hepatitis,Wilson disease and hemochromatosis.RESULTS:From October,2005 to October,2006,the study included 1801 subjects between 11 and 18 years of age and a mean age of 13.7±2.0 years.One hundred ninety-nine had central obesity.The prevalence of NAFLD was 2.3%,most of whom were male and white.Insulin resistance(IR)was observed in 22.9% of them and had positive correlations with ALT and GGT(P<0.05).Elevated CRP was observed in 6.9% of the cases;however,it was not associated with WC,IR or liver enzymes. 3Imaging response predictors following drug eluting beads chemoembolization in the neoadjuvant liver transplant treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma显示文摘BACKGROUND Drug-eluting bead transarterial chemoembolization(DEB-TACE)is an endovascular treatment to release chemotherapeutic agents within a target lesion,minimizing systemic exposure and adverse effects to chemotherapeutics.Therefore,identifying which patient characteristics may predict imaging response to DEB-TACE can improve treatment results while selecting the best candidates.Predictors of the response after DEB-TACE still have not been fully elucidated.This is the first prospective study performed with standardized DEBTACE technique that aim to identify predictors of radiological response,assessing patients clinical and laboratory characteristics,diagnostic imaging and intraprocedure data of the hepatocellular carcinoma treated in the neoadjuvant context for liver transplantation.AIM To identify pre-and intraoperative clinical and imaging predictors of the radiological response of drug-eluting bead transarterial chemoembolization(DEB-TACE)for the neoadjuvant treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC).METHODS This is prospective,cohort study,performed in a single transplant center,from 2011 to 2014.Consecutive patients with HCC considered for liver transplant who underwent DEB-TACE in the first session for downstaging or bridging purposes were recruited.Pre and post-chemoembolization imaging studies were performed by computed tomography or magnetic resonance.The radiological response of each individual HCC was evaluated by objective response using mRECIST and the percentage of necrosis.RESULTS Two hundred patients with 380 HCCs were examined.Analysis of the objective response(nodule-based analysis)demonstrated that HCC with pseudocapsules had a 2.01 times greater chance of being responders than those without pseudocapsules(P=0.01),and the addition of every 1mg of chemoembolic agent increased the chance of therapeutic response in 4%(P<0.001).Analysis of the percentage of necrosis through multiple linear regression revealed that the addition of each 1mg of the chemoembolic agent caused an average increase of 0.65%(P<0.001)in necrosis in the treated lesion,whereas the hepatocellular carcinoma with pseudocapsules presented 18.27%(P<0.001)increased necrosis compared to those without pseudocapsules.CONCLUSION The presence of a pseudocapsule and the addition of the amount of chemoembolic agent increases the chance of an objective response in hepatocellular carcinoma and increases the percentage of tumor necrosis following drug-eluting bead chemoembolization in the neoadjuvant treatment,prior to liver transplantation.Francisco Leonardo Galastri Felipe Nasser Breno Boueri Affonso Leonardo Guedes Moreira Valle Bruno Calazans Odísio Joaquim Mauricio Motta-Leal Filho Paolo Rogério Salvalaggio Rodrigo Gobbo Garcia Márcio Dias de Almeida Ronaldo Hueb Baroni Nelson Wolosker 2020World Journal of Hepatology2020,12,1:2

10Trans-10,cis-12 conjugated linoleic acid reduces neutral lipid content and may affect cryotolerance of in vitro-produced crossbred bovine embryos显示文摘Background:Due to high neutral lipids accumulation in the cytoplasm,in vitro-produced embryos from Bos primigenius indicus and their crosses are more sensitive to chilling and cryopreservation than those from Bos primigenius taurus.The objective of the present study was to evaluate the effects of trans-10,cis-12 conjugated linoleic acid(CLA) on the development and cryotolerance of crossbred Bos primigenius taurus x Bos primigenius indicus embryos produced in vitro,and cultured in the presence of fetal calf serum.Bovine zygotes(n = 1,692)were randomly assigned to one of the following treatment groups:1) Control,zygotes cultured in Charles Rosenkrans 2 amino acid(CR2aa) medium(n = 815) or 2) CLA,zygotes cultured in CR2 aa medium supplemented with 100 μmol/L of trans-10,cis-12 CLA(n =877).Embryo development(cleavage and blastocyst rates evaluated at days 3 and 8 of culture,respectively),lipid content at morula stage(day 5) and blastocyst cryotolerance(re-expansion and hatching rates,evaluated 24 and 72 h post-thawing,respectively) were compared between groups.Additionally,selected mRNA transcripts were measured by Real-Time PCR in blastocyst stage.Results:The CLA treatment had no effect on cleavage and blastocyst rates,or on mRNA levels for genes related to cellular stress and apoptosis.On the other hand,abundance of mRNA for the 1-acylglycerol-3-phosphate0-acyltransferase-encoding gene(AGPAT),which is involved in triglycerides synthesis,and consequently neutral lipid content,were reduced by CLA treatment.A significant increase was observed in the re-expansion rate of embryos cultured with trans-10,cis-12 CLA when compared to control(56.3 vs.34.4%,respectively,P = 0.002).However,this difference was not observed in the hatching rate(16.5 vs.14.0%,respectively,P=0.62).Conclusions:The supplementation with trans-10,ds-12 CLA isomer in culture medium reduced the lipid content of in vitro produced bovine embryos by reducing the gene expression of 1-acylglycerol 3-phosphate 0-acyltransferase(AGPAT) enzyme.However,a possible improvement in embryo cryotolerance in response to CLA,as suggested by increased blastocyst re-expansion rate,was not confirmed by hatching rates.Ribrio Ivan Tavares Pereira Batista Nadia Rezende Barbosa Raposo Paulo Henrique Almeida Campos-Junior Michele Munk Pereira Luiz Sergio Almeida Camargo Bruno Campos Carvalho Marco Antonio Sundfeld Gama Joao Henrique Moreira Viana 2014Journal of Animal Science and Biotechnology2014,5,4:1

12Valorization of semi-solid by-product from distillation of cellulosic ethanol into blends for heating and power显示文摘Burning down on semi-solid by-product from distillation of cellulosic ethanol to power upstream steps of its manufacturing is usual.However,this feedstock is homogenous in size and shape,hygroscopic and poorly energetic.These disadvantages make its re-use in the industrial plant very complex.Conversion of this agro-residue into high-performance blends for heating and power is,accordingly,the scientific point of this study.The pilot-scale manufacturing of composite pellets consisted of systematically pressing the residue with sugarcane bagasse at the mass ratios of 1:4,2:4,and 3:4 on an automatic pelletizer machine at 200 MPa and 125℃.The process of compaction lasted for 90 s.Durability and energy density,both increased significantly,from 95.85%to 99.55%and from 27.95 GJ m^(−3) to 32.20 GJ m^(−3) with blending at 3:4.Practically,the semi-solid by-product considerably improved the feeding,thus,enabling the layers of particles to go smoothly through the channel-forming die of the machine.Thereby,blends became stiffer and denser than pellets purely consisting of sugarcane bagasse.Preliminary evidence of the process of pelleting capable of highly valorizing the semi-solid by-product from distillation of cellulosic bioethanol into mechanically stable and energetically effective hybrid fuel grade biosolids exist.The major findings of this paper should be of great relevance to ensure safe and effective transportation and storage of biomass in indoor facili-ties where the risk for the generation of dust and fines and the subsequent off-gassing and self-firing is high.Furthermore,pelletization may optimize the co-generation of heat and steam at the large-scale bioethanol station.Bruno Rafael de Almeida Moreira Victor Hugo Cruz Matheus Luís Oliveira Cunha Nathaly Proença Lopes Anderson Chagas Magalhães Celso Tadao Miasaki JoséClaudio Caraschi Ronaldo da Silva Viana 2021Waste Disposal and Sustainable Energy2021,3,1:1

14Neoarchean and Rhyacian TTG-Sanukitoid suites in the southern S?o Francisco Paleocontinent,Brazil:Evidence for diachronous change towards modern tectonics显示文摘The southern portion of the Sao Francisco Palaeocontinent in Brazil is denoted by Archean nuclei and Paleoproterozoic magmatic arcs that were amalgamated during Siderian to Orosirian orogenic processes(ca.2.4-2.1 Ga).New isotopic U-Pb in zircon and Sm-Nd whole rock combined with major and trace element composition analyses constrain the crystallization history of the Neoarchean Piedade block(at ca.2.6 Ga)and the Paleoproterozoic Mantiqueira Complex(ca.2.1-1.9 Ga).These therefore display quite different magmatic histories prior to their amalgamation at ca.2.05 Ga.Sm-Nd and Rb-Sr isotopes imply a mixed mantle-crustal origin for the samples in both units.A complete Palaeoproterozoic orogenic cycle,from subduction to collision and collapse,is recorded in the Piedade Block and the Mantiqueira Complex.Rhyacian to Orosirian subduction processes(ca.2.2-2.1 Ga)led to the generation of coeval(ca.2.16 Ga)TTG suites and sanukitoids,followed by late(2.10-2.02 Ga)high-K granitoids that mark the collisional stage.The collisional accretion of the Mantiqueira Complex against the Piedade Block at 2.08-2.04 Ga is also recorded by granulite facies metamorphism in the latter terrane,along the Ponte Nova suture zone.The collisional stage was closely followed by the emplacement of within-plate tholeiites at ca.2.04 Ga and by alkaline rocks(syenites and enriched basic rocks)at ca.1.98 Ga,marking the transition to an extensional tectonic regime.The discovery of two episodes of TTG and sanukitoid magmatism,one during the Neoarchean in the Piedade Complex and another during the Rhyacian in the Mantiqueira Complex,indicates that the onset of subduction-related melting of metasomatized mantle was not restricted to Neoarchean times,as generally believed,but persisted much later into the Paleoproterozoic.Henrique Bruno Vitalino Elizeu Monica Heilbron Claudio de Morisson Valeriano Rob Strachan Mike Fowler Samuel Bersan Hugo Moreira Ivo Dussin Luiz Guilherme do Eirado Silva Miguel Tupinamba Julio Almeida Carla Neto Craig Storey 2020Geoscience Frontiers2020,11,5:0
15Biomass-glycerol briquettes are not necessarily mechanically stable and energetically effective显示文摘The re-use of glycerol from biodiesel industry as an alternative lubricant for making high-performance briquettes is usual.However,the technical performance of this agro-industrial residue is not consistent.This study outlines,accordingly,the real risk of introducing glycerol into the co-briquetting of highly caloric by-products of energy-crops.The production of hybrid briquettes consisted of pressing mixtures of residues of sugarcane and sorghum with the liquid additive at 10,20,and 30 wt.%in bench-scale hydraulic piston presser machine.Irrespective of the blend,briquettes containing the supplement at the highest level as part of their composition ended up being much more hygroscopic(20.10%)and less energetic(3.15 GJ m^(−3)).The explanation for the negative impact of glycerol on the thermomechanical behavior of briquettes would be overconcen-tration of additive capable of effectively defying compacting biomass.The degree of compaction during co-briquetting has likely gone down quickly with a maximizing level of glycerol.As long as the additive is not able to lubricate the feedstock suitably,improbability of biomass particles to successfully bond together to form themselves into mechanically stable and energetically effective briquettes is large.Besides lower density(273.80 kg m^(−3))and higher relaxation(22.75%),briquettes with glycerol at 30 wt.%generally were aesthetically unpleasing.Practically,these products resisted no longer to handling,transportation,and storage.They lost their shape easily during emptying and shifting them,thus,releasing larger quanti-ties of biomass to the environment.Preliminary evidence of high-viscosity glycerol capable of limiting safe and effective production of high-performance briquettes for heating and power exists.Bruno Rafael de Almeida Moreira Ronaldo da Silva Viana Samuel Dias Moreira Monique dos Santos Lima Anderson Chagas Magalhães Celso Tadao Miasaki JoséClaudio Caraschi 2020Waste Disposal and Sustainable Energy2020,2,4:0

17Larvicidal Evaluation of Aedes aegypti and Antioxidant,Cytotoxic and Antimicrobial Potential of the Aqueous Acid Extract of Pseudoxandra cuspidata(ANNOACEAE).显示文摘The Anonnaceae family has 2,500 species and 135 genera, which has about 14 representatives of species in Brazil,including Pseudoxandra cuspidata. The objective of this research was to study the aqueous-acid extract of P. cuspidata, evaluatingits antioxidant, larvicidal, antimicrobial and cytotoxic potential. In the preliminary phytochemical analysis, there were positivity toorganicacids and alkaloids. Inhibitory Activity of EAA was 65% against DPPH. The AAE presented to A. Salina nauplii at LC50%of 600.79 μg/mL for a periodof 24 hours. In relation to larvicidal activity to Aedes aegypti intermediates, AAE presented the LC50%in 24 Hours of 475.91 ppm and 290.73 ppm in 48 Hours. Regarding the antimicrobial action, the EAA presented 50 mg/mL MIC forP. Aeruginosa and MBC at 100 mg/mL, and for S. aureus it presented MIC of 50 mg/mL and did not present MBC. This researchcharacterized the presence of alkaloids and organicacids present in the aqueousacid extract of P. cuspidata. The extract presentedlowtoxicity in relation to the microcrustacean A. salina. It also had a relevant antioxidant potential (65% of Inhibition),larvicidalaction considered effective, antimicrobialaction for both P. Aeruginosa and S. 18Rainfall erosivity and erosivity density through rainfall synthetic series for Sao Paulo State,Brazil:Assessment,regionalization and modeling显示文摘Rainfall is the main cause of erosion of Brazilian soils,which makes assessing the rainfall erosivity factor(RE)and the erosivity density(ED)fundamental for soil and water conservation.Therefore,the objectives of this study were:i)to estimate the RE and ED for Sao Paulo State,Brazil,using synthetic series of pluviographic data;ii)to define homogeneous regions regarding rainfall erosivity;and iii)to generate regression models for rainfall erosivity estimates in each of the homogeneous regions.Synthetic series of pluviographic data were initially obtained on a sub-daily scale from the daily rainfall records of 696 rainfall gauges.The RE values were then estimated from the synthetic rainfall data,and ED was calculated from the relationship between erosivity and rainfall amounts.Monthly and annual maps for RE and ED were obtained.Hierarchical clustering analysis was used to define homogeneous regions in terms of rainfall erosivity,and regionalized regression models for estimating RE were generated.The results demonstrate high spatial variability of RE in Sao Paulo,where the highest annual values were observed in the coastal region.December to March concentrate approximately 60%of the intra-annual erosivity.The highest values of annual ED were observed in regions with intense agricultural activity.The definition of five homogeneous regions concerning the rainfall erosive potential evidenced distinct seasonal patterns of the spatial distribution of erosivity.Finally,the high predictive accuracy of the regionalized models obtained characterizes them as essential tools for reliable estimates of rainfall erosivity,and contribute to better soil conservation planning.David Bruno de Sousa Teixeira Roberto Avelino Cecílio Joao Paulo Bestete de Oliveira Laura Thebit de Almeida Gabrielle Ferreira Pires 2022International Soil and Water Conservation Research2022,10,3:0
19Rhyacian-Orosirian tectonic history of the Juiz de Fora Complex:Evidence for an Archean crustal reservoir within an island-arc system显示文摘The southern São Francisco Paleocontinent(SFP)comprises Archean nuclei and Paleoproterozoic complexes encompassing magmatic arcs juxtaposed during a Rhyacian to Orosirian orogenic event.The Juiz de Fora Complex(JFC)represents an imbricated thrust system that comprises orthogranulites with a wide compositional range formed in an intra-oceanic setting during the Siderian to the Orosirian and later accreted to the southeastern margin of the SFP.Here we report new petrological,geochemical,whole-rock Nd and Sr data,as well as zircon U–Pb ages from felsic and mafic orthogranulites from the JFC.The new data is combined with a regional compilation that enables an evaluation of the interaction between magmatism and orogenetic episodes in the context of the consolidation of São Francisco Paleocontinent during the Rhyacian–Orosirian.Pre collisional Island Arc tholeiites(IAT),Tonalites-Tron dhjemites-Granodiorites(TTGs)and sanukitoid magmatism occurred from 2200 Ma to 2085 Ma.This was followed by post-collisional magmatism,which is represented by hybrid granitoids coeval with the emplacement of E-MORB basic rocks.Crustal signatures for the Rhyacian to Orosirian evolution are highlighted by the dominance of negativeεNd(t)associated with Meso-to Neoarchean Nd TDMmodel ages as well as inherited zircon grains from the hybrid granitoids.The JFC is extensively highlighted in the literature as a primitive intra-oceanic arc,but here we propose the reworking or recycling of ancient crustal segments within the mature arc stage of the JFC,suggesting a Mesoarchean crustal source involved in the JFC evolution.Rasec Almeida Vitalino Elizeu Henrique Bruno Samuel Moreira Bersan Lucas Eduardo de Abreu Barbosa Araujo Ivo Dussin Claudio de Morisson Valeriano Carla Neto Monica Heilbron 2022Geoscience Frontiers2022,13,5:0
