1涡度相关法研究土壤水分状况对沙地杨树人工林生态系统能量分配和蒸散日变化的影响显示文摘为了解位于北京大兴区林场杨树人工林在不同的土壤水分环境条件下的水汽交换过程和能量的分配差异及其与环境因子关系,运用涡度相关(Eddycovariance,EC)法开路系统、常规微气象观测系统及土壤热通量板等设施对生态系统生长季内典型水分胁迫和无水分胁迫条件下蒸散日变化、能量分配以及与各环境因子的关系进行了测定分析和比较。结果表明,在水分严重胁迫日(以7月7日为例),蒸散日变化过程为单峰曲线,全天(24h)蒸散量为2·4mm;而在无水分胁迫典型日(以7月25日为例),蒸散日变化过程呈多峰曲线,全天蒸散量为4·5mm。能量平衡分析显示,无水分胁迫条件下潜热通量(LE)占净辐射通量(Rn)的比例远高于水分胁迫条件下潜热通量占净辐射通量的比例,说明水分充足时,能量的大部分用于蒸散。水分胁迫条件下蒸散速率与各环境因子的相关性均低于无水分胁迫条件下蒸散速率与环境因子的相关性。水分胁迫条件下,蒸散速率主要与净辐射和下垫面因子关系显著,而与其它因子的相关性较小;无水分胁迫条件下,蒸散速率与下垫面土体含水量和各气象因子均表现出较强的相关性。大气温度对于两个典型日蒸散速率的影响均很小;土壤含水量与水分胁迫日的蒸散速率几乎没有相关性,反应出土壤水分含量低至对蒸散几乎没有贡献了。刘晨峰 张志强 查同刚 Ge Sun Chen Jiquan 朱金兆 申李华 张津林 陈军 崔令军 2006生态学报2006,26,8:28
2Ecohydrological advances and applications in plant–water relations research:a review显示文摘Aims The field of ecohydrology is providing new theoretical frameworks and methodological approaches for understanding the complex interactions and feedbacks between vegetation and hydrologic flows at multiple scales.Here we review some of the major scientific and technological advances in ecohydrology as related to understanding the mechanisms by which plant–water relations influence water fluxes at ecosystem,watershed and landscape scales.Important Findings We identify several cross-cutting themes related to the role of plant–water relations in the ecohydrological literature,including the contrasting dynamics of water-limited and water-abundant ecosystems,transferring information about water fluxes across scales,understanding spatiotemporal heterogeneity and complexity,ecohydrological triggers associated with threshold behavior and shifts between alternative stable states and the need for long-term data sets at multiple scales.We then show how these themes are embedded within three key research areas where improved understanding of the linkages between plant–water relations and the hydrologic cycle have led to important advances in the field of ecohydrology:upscaling water fluxes from the leaf to the watershed and landscape,effects of plant–soil interactions on soil moisture dynamics and controls exerted by plant water use patterns and mechanisms on streamflow regime.In particular,we highlight several pressing environmental challenges facing society today where ecohydrology can contribute to the scientific knowledge for developing sound management and policy solutions.We conclude by identifying key challenges and opportunities for advancing contributions of plant–water relations research to ecohydrology in the future.Heidi Asbjornsen Gregory R.Goldsmith Maria S.Alvarado-Barrientos Karin Rebel Floortje P.Van Osch Max Rietkerk Jiquan Chen Sybil Gotsch Conrado Tobon Daniel R.Geissert Alberto Gomez-Tagle Kellie Vache Todd E.Dawson 2011Journal of Plant Ecology2011,4,1:15

5Genome-wide prediction in a hybrid maize population adapted to Northwest China显示文摘Genome-wide prediction is a promising approach to boost selection gain in hybrid breeding.Our main objective was to evaluate the potential and limits of genome-wide prediction to identify superior hybrid combinations adapted to Northwest China.A total of 490 hybrids derived from crosses among 119 inbred lines from the Shaan A and Shaan B heterotic pattern were used for genome-wide prediction of ten agronomic traits.We tested eight different statistical prediction models considering additive(A)effects and in addition evaluated the impact of dominance(D)and epistasis(E)on the prediction ability.Employing five-fold cross validation,we show that the average prediction ability ranged from 0.386 to 0.794 across traits and models.Six parametric methods,i.e.ridge regression,LASSO,Elastic Net,Bayes B,Bayes C and reproducing kernel Hilbert space(RKHS)approach,displayed a very similar prediction ability for each trait and two non-parametric methods(random forest and support vector machine)had a higher prediction performance for the trait rind penetrometer resistance of the third internode above ground(RPR_TIAG).The models of A+D RKHS and A+D+E RKHS were slightly better for predicting traits with a relatively high non-additive variance.Integrating trait-specific markers into the A+D RKHS model improved the prediction ability of grain yield by 3%,from 0.528 to 0.558.Of all 6328 potential hybrids,selection of the top 44 hybrids would lead to a 6%increase in grain yield compared with Zhengdan 958,a commercially successful hybrid variety.In conclusion,our results substantiate the value of genome-wide prediction for hybrid breeding and suggest dozens of promising single crosses for developing high-yielding hybrids for Northwest China.Guoliang Li Yuan Dong Yusheng Zhao Xiaokang Tian Tobias Würschum Jiquan Xue Shaojiang Chen Jochen C.Reif Shutu Xu Wenxin Liu 2020The Crop Journal2020,8,5:4
6Effect of electronic stimulation at Neiguan(PC 6) acupoint on gene expression of adenosine triphosphate-sensitive potassium channel and protein kinases in rats with myocardial ischemia显示文摘OBJECTIVE:To investigate the effects of electronic stimulation at acupoints Neiguan(PC 6) and Lieque(LU 7) on the gene expression of the adenosine triphosphate(ATP)-Sensitive potassium channel(KATP:Kir6.1,Kir6.2,SUR2 A,and SUR2B) and protein kinases(PKA,PKG,and PKCβ2) in myocardial cells of rats with myocardial ischemia(Ml) induced by isoproterenol(ISO).METHODS:Rats were randomly divided into a control,model,Neiguan(PC 6),Lieque(LU 7),and non-acupoint groups.The Ml model was established by injecting rats with ISO.Electro-acupuncture treatment was given to the acupuncture groups,once a day for 7 days.Gene expression was analyzed with real-time PCR.RESULTS:The gene expression of KATP and protein kinases in the model group was higher than those in the control group(P < 0.05).After acupuncture treatment,the KATP and protein kinase expression levels were significantly lower in the Neiguan(PC 6)and Lieque(LU 7) groups compared with the model group[P < 0.05).The Neiguan(PC 6) group lowered these levels significantly more than that of the Lieque(LU 7) group(P < 0.05).No significant differences were observed between the model and non-acupoint groups(P > 0.05).CONCLUSION:Our findings suggest that electronic needling of Neiguan(PC 6) can both reduce the gene expression of KATP and protein kinases in rats with ISO-induced Ml.Wang Wei Li Jiquan Meng Xiangyu Chen Yiguo 2015Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine2015,35,5:4
7Understanding livestock production and sustainability of grassland ecosystems in the Asian Dryland Belt显示文摘Background:Companioned by economic development,a dietary shift toward higher meat consumption is seen in developing countries and transitional economies,where the demand for livestock production has been increasing in response to such a dietary shift.In the Asian Dryland Belt,approaches to meet this demand have focused on grazing intensification,cropland conversion for animal feed,and supplemental feeding.With the scarcity of water,energy,and food in the region,a key question is whether or not the current approaches are sustainable.If not,what are the pathways to increase livestock production while protecting the region’s environment for a sustainable future?We provide our reviews and discuss current approaches in response to these dietary shifts and assess their environmental resilience with a focus on the grassland ecosystems in the Asian Dryland Belt.Results:While current approaches alleviate the urgent need for short-term livestock production,they lead to longterm vulnerability in food security.Trade-offs between short gains and long-term losses,between food for humans and for animals,and between agricultural intensification and environmental degradation need to be holistically examined for the sustainable development of the region.A grassland water,energy,and food nexus framework is proposed with specific recommendations to increase livestock production while considering other ecosystem services of the dryland grassland ecosystems in the Asian Dryland Belt.Conclusions:Current practices to increase livestock production are likely to lead to long-term,large-scale ecological degradation of the grassland ecosystems in the Asian Dryland Belt and are thus unsustainable.By considering the trade-offs in the nexus of water,land,food,and livelihoods,sustainable pathways were articulated and recommended.Future pilot studies are needed for validation and adoption.Jiaguo Qi Xiaoping Xin Ranjeet John Pavel Groisman Jiquan Chen 2017Ecological Processes2017,6,1:4
8Spatial variation of net radiation and its contribution to energy balance closures in grassland ecosystems显示文摘Introduction:Low energy balance closure(EBC)at a particular eddy-covariance flux site has increased the uncertainties of carbon,water,and energy measurements and has thus hampered the urgent research of scaling up and modeling analyses through site combinations in regional or global flux networks.Methods:A series of manipulative experiments were conducted in this study to explore the role of net radiation(Rn)in the EBC in relation to spatial variability of vegetation characteristics,source area,and sensor type in three sites of the Inner Mongolian grassland of northern China.Results:At all three sites,the residual fluxes of EBC peaked consistently at 110 W m^(-2).The spatial variability in net radiation was 19 W m^(-2)(5%of R_(n))during the day and 7 W m^(-2)(16%)at night,with an average of 13 W m^(-2)(11%)from eight plot measurements across the three sites.Large area measurements of Rn significantly increased by 9 W m^(-2)during the day and decreased by 4 W m^(-2)at night in the unclipped treatments.Net radiation decreased by 25 W m^(-2)(6%of Rn)at midday and 81 MJ m^(-2)(6%)during a growing season with heavier regular clipping than that in unclipped treatments.The Rn was lower by 11–21 W m^(-2)(~20–40%of Rn)measured by CNR1 than by Q7.1 at night,while there was only 6 W m^(-2)(~1–2%of Rn)difference during the daytime between these two types of commonly used net radiometers.Conclusions:Overall,the inclusion of the uncertainty in available energy accounted for 65%of the~110 W m^(-2)shortfalls in the lack of closure.Clearly,the unclosed energy balance at these three grassland sites remains significant,with unexplored mechanisms for future research.Changliang Shao Linghao Li Gang Dong Jiquan Chen 2014Ecological Processes2014,3,1:3
9Do green spaces affect the spatiotemporal changes of PM_(2.5) in Nanjing?显示文摘Introduction:Among the most dangerous pollutants is PM_(2.5),which can directly pass through human lungs and move into the blood system.The use of nature-based solutions,such as increased vegetation cover in an urban landscape,is one of the possible solutions for reducing PM_(2.5) concentration.Our study objective was to understand the importance of green spaces in pollution reduction.Methods:Daily PM_(2.5) concentrations were manually collected at nine monitoring stations in Nanjing over a 534-day period from the air quality report of the China National Environmental Monitoring Center(CNEMC)to quantify the spatiotemporal change of PM_(2.5) concentration and its empirical relationship with vegetation and landscape structure in Nanjing.Results:The daily average,minimum,and maximum PM_(2.5) concentrations from the nine stations were 74.0,14.2,and 332.0μg m^(−3),respectively.Out of the 534 days,the days recorded as“excellent”and“good”conditions were found mostly in the spring(30.7%),autumn(25.6%),and summer(24.5%),with only 19.2% of the days in the winter.High PM_(2.5) concentrations exceeding the safe standards of the CNEMC were recorded predominately during the winter(39.3-100.0%).Our hypothesis that green vegetation had the potential to reduce PM_(2.5) concentration was accepted at specific seasons and scales.The PM_(2.5) concentration appeared very highly correlated(R2>0.85)with green cover in spring at 1-2 km scales,highly correlated(R2>0.6)in autumn and winter at 4 km scale,and moderately correlated in summer(R2>0.4)at 2-,5-,and 6-km scales.However,a non-significant correlation between green cover and PM_(2.5) concentration was found when its level was>75μg m^(−3).Across the Nanjing urban landscape,the east and southwest parts had high pollution levels.Conclusions:Although the empirical models seemed significant for spring only,one should not devalue the importance of green vegetation in other seasons because the regulations are often complicated by vegetation,meteorological conditions,and human activities.Jiquan Chen Liuyan Zhu Peilei Fan Li Tian Raffaele Lafortezza 2016Ecological Processes2016,5,1:3
10Applications of structural equation modeling(SEM)in ecological studies:an updated review显示文摘Aims:This review was developed to introduce the essential components and variants of structural equation modeling(SEM),synthesize the common issues in SEM applications,and share our views on SEM’s future in ecological research.Methods:We searched the Web of Science on SEM applications in ecological studies from 1999 through 2016 and summarized the potential of SEMs,with a special focus on unexplored uses in ecology.We also analyzed and discussed the common issues with SEM applications in previous publications and presented our view for its future applications.Results:We searched and found 146 relevant publications on SEM applications in ecological studies.We found that five SEM variants had not commenly been applied in ecology,including the latent growth curve model,Bayesian SEM,partial least square SEM,hierarchical SEM,and variable/model selection.We identified ten common issues in SEM applications including strength of causal assumption,specification of feedback loops,selection of models and variables,identification of models,methods of estimation,explanation of latent variables,selection of fit indices,report of results,estimation of sample size,and the fit of model.Conclusions:In previous ecological studies,measurements of latent variables,explanations of model parameters,and reports of key statistics were commonly overlooked,while several advanced uses of SEM had been ignored overall.With the increasing availability of data,the use of SEM holds immense potential for ecologists in the future.Yi Fan Jiquan Chen Gabriela Shirkey Ranjeet John Susie R.Wu Hogeun Park Changliang Shao 2016Ecological Processes2016,5,1:3
11Temperature Responses to Infrared-Loading and Water Table Manipulations in Peatland Mesocosms显示文摘We initiated a multi-factor global change experiment to explore the effects of infrared heat loading (HT) and water table level (WL) treatment on soil temperature (T) in bog and fen peatland mesocosms.We found that the temperature varied highly by year,month,peatland type,soil depth,HT and WL manipulations.The highest effect of HT on the temperature at 25 cm depth was found in June for the bog mesocosms (3.34–4.27 ?C) but in May for the fen mesocosms (2.32–4.33 ?C) over the 2-year study period.The effects of WL in the bog mesocosms were only found between August and January,with the wet mesocosms warmer than the dry mesocosms by 0.48–2.03 °C over the 2-year study period.In contrast,wetter fen mesocosms were generally cooler by 0.16–3.87 °C.Seasonal changes of temperatures elevated by the HT also varied by depth and ecosystem type,with temperature differences at 5 cm and 10 cm depth showing smaller seasonal fluctuations than those at 25 cm and 40 cm in the bog mesocosms.However,increased HT did not always lead to warmer soil,especially in the fen mesocosms.Both HT and WL manipulations have also changed the length of the non-frozen season.Jiquan Chen Scott Bridgham Jason Keller John Pastor Asko Noormets Jake F.Weltzin 2008Journal of Integrative Plant Biology2008,50,11:2

13nvasive Spartina and reduced sediments: Shanghai’s dangerous silver bullet显示文摘Aims This synthesis paper is developed to provide a summary of ecological,socioeconomic challenges facing the estuarine wetlands within the Yangtze River delta.Methods We combined literature review of the estuarine wetlands and ground measurements of sedimentation,vegetation,and carbon fluxes to illustrate the foreseeable crises in managing these wetlands that play a critical role in Shanghai’s urban development.Where the Yangtze River meets the Pacific Ocean,4.153108 mg/year of suspended sediments are deposited along mainland and island shorelines of the 40000 km2 delta-resulting in an average growth rate of land outwards 64 m/year since 1951.However,completion of the Three Gorges Dam in 2003,and earlier dam projects,reduced the rates of sedimentation and growth of the islands.To meet the increasing demands for lands and agriculture,policymakers have attempted to enlarge the islands by diking coastal areas and introducing Spartina alterniflora-a grass native to tidal salt marshes of the southeastern USA but exotic to China.Spartina is one of the 16 greatest invasive species listed by the State Environmental Protection Administration of China.Successful plantations and rapid spread of this species have increased the production and fertility of the coast,but at the cost of native ecosystems.We outline the social,economic,and ecological controversies related to this land management strategy in the context of global warming.Important findings Combinations of these changes,including sea level rise,and alterations to storm patterns and long-shore currents,with the continued spread of Spartina,human population growth,and river flow and sediment reduction will make current management untenable.Jiquan Chen Bin Zhao Wenwei Ren Sari C.Saunders Zhijun Ma Bo Li Yiqi Luo Jiakuan Chen 2008Journal of Plant Ecology2008,1,2:2
14Evapotranspiration and soil water relationships in a range of disturbed and undisturbed ecosystems in the semi-arid Inner Mongolia,China显示文摘Aims Evapotranspiration(ET)is a key component of water balance and is closely linked to ecosystem productivity.In arid regions,large proportion of precipitation(PPT)is returned to the atmosphere through ET,with only a small amount available to plants.Our objective was to examine the variability in ET–soil water relationship based on a set of ecosystems that are representative for semi-arid Inner Mongolia and its main land use practices.Methods This study used Eddy covariance(EC)data of water vapor(i.e.ET,mm),PPT(mm),soil volumetric water content(VWC,%),root biomass density and soil properties from three paired sites in semi-arid Inner Mongolia:cropland(Cropland-D)versus undisturbed grassland(Steppe-D),grazed grassland(Grazed Steppe-X)versus fenced grassland(Fenced Steppe-X)and poplar plantation(Poplar-K)versus undisturbed shrubland(Shrubland-K).The paired sites experienced similar climate conditions and were equipped with the same monitoring systems.Important Findings The ET/PPT ratio was significantly lower at Cropland-D and Grazed Steppe-X in comparison to the undisturbed grasslands,Steppe-D and Fenced Steppe-X.These differences are in part explained by the lower VWC in the upper soil layers associated with compaction of surface soil in heavily grazed and fallow fields.In contrast,the ET/PPT ratio was much higher at the poplar plantation compared to the undisturbed shrubland because poplar roots tap groundwater.The VWC of different soil layers responded differently to rainfall events across the six study sites.Except for Poplar-K,ETwas significantly constrained by VWC at the other five sites,although the correlation coefficients varied among soil layers.The relative contribution of soil water to ET correlated with the density of root biomass in the soil(R2=0.67,P<0.01).The soil water storage in the upper 50 cm of soil contributed 59,43,64 and 23%of total water loss as ET at Steppe-D,Cropland-D,Shrubland-K and Poplar-K,respectively.Our across-site analysis indicates that the site level of soil water for ET differs between land use and land cover type due to altered root distribution and/or soil physical properties.As a result,we recommend that ecosystem models designed to predict the response of a wide variety of vegetation to climatic variation in arid regions include more detail in defining soil layers and interactions between evaporation,infiltration and root distribution patterns.Nan Lu Shiping Chen Burkhard Wilske Ge Sun Jiquan Chen 2011Journal of Plant Ecology2011,4,1:2

20用内生长法测定的生物能源作物根生产的长期变化显示文摘对于土地用途转为种植生物燃料作物后的根系产量,还很少进行过长期的测定。为了评价此前的土地用途对地下生物量积累的影响,我们在“美国休耕保护项目”(Conservation Reserve Program,CPR)下生长了22年的草地(CRP草地)和使用期超过50年的农业用地(AGR农地)转为种植生物燃料作物玉米(Zea mays,Corn,C)、柳枝稷(Panicum virgatum,Switchgrass,Sw)和恢复性草原植被(Prairie,Pr)。我们将一块CPR草地维持为对照。我们的假设是土地利用历史和作物类型对根系密度有显著的影响;其中,原CRP草地上种植的多年生作物具有较高的根系生产力,而在原农业用地上种植的玉米的根系生产力最低。通过内生长土芯法对内生长根系生物量进行了原位测定,同时对地上净初级生产力(ANPP)进行了测量。包括气温、生长季长度和降水量在内的辅助测量则被用来考查它们对根系生产量的影响。根系生产力在未转变的CRP草地最高(1716 g m?2 yr?1),而在玉米田中最低(526 g m?2 yr?1)。由CRP草地和AGR农田转变而来的多年生作物种植地在第一年都具有较低的根系生物量和ANPP,但柳枝稷在2011年达到峰值,恢复后的草原植被也在一年后达到峰值。恢复后的草原生态系统稳定性较高(AGR-Pr:4.3±0.11;CRP-Pr:4.1±0.10),而仅种植单一作物的生态系统稳定性都较低。根系生产量与ANPP呈正相关性(R2=0.40)。总体而言,对生物燃料作物大规模种植过程中的根系生物量积累应予以重视,因为这是固碳的一种主要来源。Cheyenne Lei Michael Abraha Jiquan Chen Yahn-Jauh Su 2021Journal of Plant Ecology2021,14,5:1
