| 4 | Characteristics and Mechanism of Agricultural Transformation in Typical Rural Areas of Eastern China:A Case Study of Yucheng City,Shandong Province显示文摘Rural off-farm employment,rapid loss of agricultural land,and advanced technology popularization had led agricultural production in Chinese typical rural areas come at a critical transformation and upgrade stage.Based on sample survey data gathered from 401 households in Yucheng City,Shandong Province,this paper focuses on the characteristics and mechanism of agricultural transformation in typical rural areas of the eastern China.It was found that 74.3% of households surveyed kept at least one member engaging in off-farm employment,and 57.1% looked forward to expanding the operational scale of arable land,while just 13.7% had actually transferred their agricultural land.Since growing off-farm employment does not result in the collapse of traditional subsistence agriculture,therefore,agricultural production in Yucheng City is at an incomplete transformation phase from traditional small-holder farming to modern scale economy.It is caused by both macro environments and family characteristics,while urban-rural dual structure,imperfect rural development policy and agricultural technology popularization make peasant economy strengthen upon maintenance,and small-holder farming becomes peasant's natural response owing to pluriactivity,local off-farm employment,reverse elimination,etc.In order to achieve smooth agricultural transformation of typical rural areas in the eastern China,it needs to promote professional differentiation among peasants,under clear policies adopted by central government.Providing comprehensive services for agricultural production and improving production skills and knowledge of farmers who are still living in the countryside will effectively stimulate the process of agricultural transformation. | CHEN Yangfen | 2010 | Chinese Geographical Science2010,20,6: | 11 |

| 6 | Rural Development Evaluation from Territorial Function Angle:a Case of Shandong Province显示文摘Rural territorial function follows the trend to develop from agricultural production space to a complex of cultural heritage,food security,social stability,quality of living,etc.Based on the rural area's territorial function to both urban and rural areas and its evolution law,index system of rural development evaluation,covering rural production function,rural consumption function,regional sustaining function,and individual development function were constructed in this paper.Case study based on Shandong Province and entropy method showed that the rural development in Shandong Province was neither stable nor orderly,and some of rural territorial functions were under fluctuation.The simulation result was close to the actual situation in rural areas of Shandong Province,and therefore,it would provide some experience for scientific evaluation of rural development in other regions.In the end,policy suggestion to cope with rural function transition was provided,namely further promoting the rural economic development,and breaking away from various factors that restricted the value realization,natural increment,and equitable distribution of rural production factors,and therefore,it would receive a sustainable rural development. | CHEN Yangfen LIU Yansui | 2011 | Journal of Northeast Agricultural University(English Edition)2011,18,1: | 1 |
| 7 | Is China's agricultural enterprise growing steadily?Evidence from listed agricultural companies显示文摘Agricultural enterprises are integral for agricultural modernization,serving as a bridge between scattered small-scale farmers and modern markets.However,agricultural competitiveness is still weak in China.This paper uses the Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution(TOPSIS)method to measure the growth performance of China's listed agricultural companies and analyze its influencing factors based on Panel-Corrected Standard Errors(PCSE)to verify whether they are capable of achieving sustainable development.The findings confirm that first,listed Chinese agricultural companies have significantly increased profitability and scale in recent years but are still weak compared to other industries.The growth performance of such enterprises is generally stable,the difference between them is decreasing,and their growth ranking fluctuates greatly,with significant regional and industrial characteristics.Second,technological efficiency,scale,and age are positively related to the growth of listed agricultural companies.The diversification and expansion of business harm the profitability and development of enterprises.Currently,financial support can satisfy the short-term profit-seeking demands of enterprises but is inadequate to improve the ability of enterprises to grow.Third,China's listed agricultural companies need to devise policies through a forward-looking perspective and use them more effectively.Additionally,the transformation opportunities introduced by non agricultural capital into agriculture deserve attention.When agricultural enterprises realize technological progress via modern capital,they understand the importance of utilizing and integrating technological innovation and increase the efficiency of transforming new technology into productivity.Policy orientation should be attentive to the public welfare of these listed companies and take into account the demands of corporate profits to realize the long-term sustainable development of enterprises and regions. | Yujia Lu Yangfen Chen | 2021 | Chinese Journal of Population,Resources and Environment2021,19,2: | 0 |
