1AMS dating on glacial tills at the source area of the Urumqi River in the Tianshan Mountains and its implications显示文摘Using accelerating mass spectrometry (AMS) dating method, a dating has been made on the primary calcium carbonate in tills and secondary calcium carbonate coating on till gravel and the roche moutonnee formed since the Last Glaciation at the source area of the Urumqi River valley in the Tianshan Mountains, northwestern China. The results reveal that the carbonate content in the tills in this noncarbonate area is high enough to date by AMS, that the carbon in the coatings on the newly exposed roche moutons and in the modern till is modern carbon and so the 14 C dating results in the ancient till can represent the actual ages of the till formation, and that the warm period during the Holocene began as early as 6 500 a B.P. and lasted to 1 800 a B.P.Chaolu Yi Kexing Liu Zhijiu Cui 1998Chinese Science Bulletin1998,43,20:15
2Late Pleistocene glaciation of the Hulifang Massif of Gongwang mountains in Yunnan Province显示文摘Late Pleistocene glaciation was restricted to only a few high mountains in eastern China. The Gongwang mountainsconstitute one ofthe typicalplacesonce glaciated.Geomorphic mapping of the area and the TL dating provides evidence for at least four distinct glaciations. YJT-I glacial advance occurred about100 ka BP and two TL absolute ages(101,100 ±7780 a BP;104,000±8300 a BP)indicate thisadvance happened during the Penultimale Glaciation.The early stage glacialadvance (YJT-II advance) during the last glaciation occurred about 40,920±3400 a BP. The last glacial maximum advance (YJT-IIIadvance)about18-25 ka BP,which sustained by two TL ages(18,230 ± 1420 a BP;25,420 ±2110 a BP).The Penultimale and the early stage glaciationswere more extensive and the lastglacialmaximum (LGM )and the late-glacialperiod (YJT-IV advance,10 ka BP) were progressively less extensive. 3^(10)Be dating of boulders on moraines from the last glacial period in the Nyainqentanglha mountains,Tibet显示文摘Chronologies of glacial advances during the last glacial period in the Nyainqentanglha mountain range may provide constraints on the past climate in a transition zone of the Asian monsoon.We present 15 new10Be exposure ages from two moraines in the Payuwang valley,on the north slope of the range.The inner moraine has exposure ages ranging from 18.0±1.7 to 30.6±2.8 ka(n=10),with a mean age of 23.8±4.0 ka,corresponding to the global Last Glacial Maximum(LGM).The outer moraine yields exposure ages ranging from 18.0±1.6 to 39.9±3.7 ka(n=5).Evidence for weathering leads us to view the oldest age as a minimum age,placing moraine formation during MIS3.Chronologies from the last glacial period from south slope of the Nyainqentanglha support this interpretation.Thus,there appears to have been a local LGM(LLGM)during MIS3 and a more limited glacial advance during the global LGM.Glacial advances during MIS3 in the Nyainqentanglha may correlate with millennial-scale climate change(Heinrich events).DONG GuoCheng YI ChaoLu Marc CAFFEE 2014Science China Earth Sciences2014,57,2:10
4Evolution of permafrost in China during the last 20 ka显示文摘The formation and evolution of permafrost in China during the last 20 ka were reconstructed on the basis of large amount of paleo-permafrost remains and paleo-periglacial evidence, as well as paleo-glacial landforms, paleo-flora and paleofauna records. The results indicate that, during the local Last Glacial Maximum(LLGM) or local Last Permafrost Maximum(LLPMax), the extent of permafrost of China reached 5.3×106-5.4×106 km2, or thrice that of today, but permafrost shrank to only0.80×106-0.85×106 km2, or 50% that of present, during the local Holocene Megathermal Period(LHMP), or the local Last Permafrost Minimum(LLPMin). On the basis of the dating of periglacial remains and their distributive features, the extent of permafrost in China was delineated for the two periods of LLGM(LLPMax) and LHMP(LLPMin), and the evolution of permafrost in China was divided into seven periods as follows:(1) LLGM in Late Pleistocene(ca. 20000 to 13000-10800 a BP)with extensive evidence for the presence of intensive ice-wedge expansion for outlining its LLPMax extent;(2) A period of dramatically changing climate during the early Holocene(10800 to 8500-7000 a BP) when permafrost remained relatively stable but with a general trend of shrinking areal extent;(3) The LHMP in the Mid-Holocene(8500-7000 to 4000-3000 a BP)when permafrost degraded intensively and extensively, and shrank to the LLPMin;(4) Neoglaciation during the late Holocene(4000-3000 to 1000 a BP, when permafrost again expanded;(5) Medieval Warming Period(MWP) in the late Holocene(1000-500 a BP) when permafrost was in a relative decline;(6) Little Ice Age(LIA) in the late Holocene(500-100 a BP), when permafrost relatively expanded, and;(7) Recent warming(during the 20 th century), when permafrost continuously degraded and still is degrading. 6On the Unusual Holocene Carbonate Sediment in Lake Nam Co,Central Tibet显示文摘In lacustrine sediments,aragonite is a widespread mineral,whereas monohydrocalcite is a rare carbonate mineral. In the cold and high-attitude Xizang (Tibetan) Plateau,where aragonite has been commonly found in lacustrine sediments,there is no aragonite,but low-Mg calcite,monohydrocalcite and trace dolomite. The lake receives solutes primarily from surface runoffs and remains fairly constant water chemistry for a long time. The total CaCO3 percentage in sediments could be controlled by evaporation and inflow of detrital materials. The absence of aragonite is unusual when compared to other lacustrine sediments from the Tibetan Plateau. This could be due to low Ca/Mg ratio,low salinity,low Mg and Ca concentration. Monohydrocalcite might precipitate from the lake water mediated by biological activities. 7Late Glacial glacier-climate modeling in two valleys on the eastern slope of Samdainkangsang Peak, Nyaiqentanggulha Mountains显示文摘Well-preserved Late Glacial moraines in the Barenduo and Yuqiongqu valleys on the eastern slope of the Samdainkangsang Peak present an opportunity to reconstruct glacier extents and examine the character of the climate during the Late Glacial stage in the Nyaiqentanggulha Mountains.This study employs a coupled mass-balance and ice-flow model to reconstruct the glacier extents in the two valleys and assess the magnitudes of temperature and precipitation change during the Late Glacial period.Model results indicate that during the Late Glacial,the Barenduo valley contained an ice volume of 1.67×10~8m^3,with the equilibrium-line altitude(ELA)being^5500 m asl;and the Yuqiongqu valley had an ice volume of 5.56×10~8 m^3,with the ELA being^5470 m asl.A climate scenario,temperature depression of 2.6-2.8℃and 60-70%,percent of modern(1981-2010)precipitation,can sustain both of the Late Glacial glacier extents in the two valleys.A 50%increase or decrease from modern precipitation would have been coupled with the respective Late Glacial temperature depressions of 1.6 and 3.0℃in the Barenduo valley,and 2.1 and 2.8℃in the Yuqiongqu valley.XU XiangKe DONG GuoCheng PAN BaoLin HU Gang BI WeiLi LIU JinHua YI ChaoLu 2017Science China Earth Sciences2017,60,1:3

9Soil Properties in Two Soil Profiles from Terraces of the Nam Co Lake in Tibet,China显示文摘This article investigates the soil properties in two soil profiles from the terraces of the Nam Co Lake in Tibet,China. Profile 1,with a slope aspect to east,is 37 m,and profile 2,to southwest,is 32 m above the lake level. Twelve and nine layers were identified in profile 1 and profile 2,respectively,based on the color,texture,structure,moisture content,presence of carbonate,and root density. Grain sizes and measurements of water content,total organic carbon,total inorganic carbon,total carbon,pH value and electrical conductivity were all analyzed for each sample. The results show that soil is poorly developed because of sparse vegetation coverage and weak chemical weathering in the cold and arid area. The results also indicate that the soil properties are different between the two profiles and suggest that soil is better developed in profile 1 than in profile 2. These differences are ascribed to the dissimilarity of landform,vegetation and timing. Profile 1 faces to east as compared with profile 2 facing to southwest and gets less insolation and therefore less evaporation. Thus,vegetation grows better in profile 1 than in profile 2. 10Symmetry analysis of modified 2D Burgers vortex equation for unsteady case显示文摘In this paper, a symmetry analysis of the modified 2D Burgers vortex equation with a flow parameter is presented. A general form of classical and non-classical symmetries of the equation is derived. These are fundamental tools for obtaining exact solutions to the equation. In several physical cases of the parameter, the specific classical and non-classical symmetries of the equation are then obtained. 14Fractal Solitons, Arbitrary Function Solutions, Exact Periodic Wave and Breathers for a Nonlinear Partial Differential Equation by Using Bilinear Neural Network Method显示文摘This paper extends a method, called bilinear neural network method(BNNM), to solve exact solutions to nonlinear partial differential equation. New, test functions are constructed by using this method. These test functions are composed of specific activation functions of single-layer model,specific activation functions of '2-2' model and arbitrary functions of '2-2-3' model. By means of the BNNM, nineteen sets of exact analytical solutions and twenty-four arbitrary function solutions of the dimensionally reduced p-gB KP equation are obtained via symbolic computation with the help of Maple. The fractal solitons waves are obtained by choosing appropriate values and the self-similar characteristics of these waves are observed by reducing the observation range and amplifying the partial picture. By giving a specific activation function in the single layer neural network model, exact periodic waves and breathers are obtained.
