| 3 | Numerical and analytical simulation of the structural behaviour of fully grouted cable bolts under impulsive loading显示文摘Designing reliable yielding support system to mitigate the effect of the kinetic energy in burst-prone conditions in mining and tunneling excavations is one of the challenges for geotechnical engineers. A combination of the support elements can be used to increase rock strength and minimise the displacement of unstable rock mass. It is important to understand how the support system works to ensure the stability of underground excavations. Cable bolts have been commonly used as an effective underground support system and an element of reinforcement to improve rock stability. Cable bolts are usually considered to be subjected to static loads under relatively low stress environments, however, in burst-prone conditions, they might be subjected to dynamic loads. Cable bolts as well as other support elements are used in burst-prone conditions to absorb the kinetic energy of the removed rock to avoid sudden and violent failures. This paper develops numerical and a novel analytical simulation technique for cable bolts to assess their structural behaviour under static and dynamic loading conditions. | 9 | Analysis of the influence of groundwater and the stress regime on bolt behaviour in underground coal mines显示文摘The service failure of rock bolts and cable bolts are frequently reported issues in underground coal mines. Whilst numerous experimental investigations concerned with the service failure of bolts have been conducted, numerical modelling offers an alternative approach in evaluating the factors contributing to service failures of bolts in underground mines. In this study, analysis of the influence of groundwater and tensile stress on bolts in underground coal mines was studied through the numerical modelling of a grouted bolt in the immediate roadway roof. Bolt tensile stress and groundwater dripping rates in the immediate roadway roof were analysed using a package based on finite element method to assess the effect of coal roof thickness and claystone bands, as main contributors of known service failures of bolts in roadways of underground coal mines. Increasing coal roof thickness was found to increase bolt dripping rates. Probable location of stress corrosion cracking (SCC) occurrence was established through examining the shift and increase in maximum bolt tensile stress that was exhibited along the bolt length with increasing coal roof thickness. Claystone bands situated at the top and centre horizon of a grouted bolt produced lower bolt dripping rates compared with scenarios with no claystone bands. Intersecting claystone bands at the centre horizon of a bolt for a fully grouted bolt could increase the likelihood of SCC corrosion and bolt failure by contributing to microbial corrosion processes and grout fracturing by tensile stress. The East China Grid(ECG) is the main hydropower receiver of the west–east power transmission channel in China. Moreover, it has been subject to a rapidly increasing rate of hydropower integration over the past decade. Currently, large-scale outer hydropower is one of the primary ECG power sources. However, the integration of rapidly increasing outer hydropower into the power grid is subject to a series of severe drawbacks. Therefore, this study considered the load demands and hydropower transmission characteristics for the analysis of several major problems and the determination of appropriate solutions. The power supply-demand balance problem, hydropower transmission schedule problem, and peakshaving problem were considered in this study. Correspondingly, three solutions are suggested in this paper, which include coordination between the outer hydropower and local power sources, an inter-provincial power complementary operation, and the introduction of a market mechanism. | 15 | A semi-quantitative coal burst risk classification system显示文摘Safety is the highest priority in the mining industry as underground mining in particular poses high safety risks to its workers. In underground coal mines, coal bursts are one of the most catastrophic hazards, which involves sudden and violent dynamic coal mass failure with rapid ejection of the broken material into the mine workings. Despite decades of research, the contributing mechanisms of coal bursts are still not completely understood. Hence, it remains challenging to forecast coal bursts and quantify their likelihood of occurrence. However, a range of geological and geotechnical factors are associated with coal bursts and can increase the coal burst proneness. This paper introduces a semi-quantitative coal burst risk classification system, namely, BurstRisk. Based on back-analysis of case histories from Australia, China and the United States, BurstRisk classifies the coal burst risk into three categories:low, medium and high risk. In addition, it allows mining engineers to modify the weighting of the selected factors based on specific conditions. The risk classification charts introduced are for both longwall retreat and development sections of long-wall mining operations. | 16 | Microstructure of fibrils separated from polyacrylonitrile fibers by ultrasonic etching显示文摘Polyacrylonitrile (PAN) fiber is an important precursor fiber for high performance carbon fiber.The properties of the final carbon fiber depend strongly on the nature of the PAN fibers.The PAN fibrils were separated successfully from fibers by ultrasonic etching and were systematically investigated by field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) and high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM).It is found that in certain ultrasonic etching conditions (at 75±2oC for 6 h with a frequency of 40 kHz) the PAN fibers are dissolved in the 95 wt.% aqueous dimethylsulphoxide (DMSO) solution;the fibrils consisting of numerous periodic lamellae with thickness of 30-45 nm and perpendicular to the fiber axis are separated in the 90 wt.% aqueous DMSO solution;and the fibrils with smooth surface exfoliated from the PAN fibers are obtained in the 70-90 wt.% aqueous DMSO solutions.Inner periodical structure of fibrils was observed in HRTEM,which indicates that there are different densities and two phases in fibrils.The PAN fibers are dissolved layer by layer with increasing ultrasonic etching time.The fiber surface experiences ultrasonic cleaning,selective etching,excessive etching and dissolution,and then the sublayer experiences the same process.There are numerous periodic lamellae in fibrils of nascent fibers.This means that the fibrils with lamellae are formed by orientation and crystallization in shearing field of spinning pipe and drawing stress field of coagulation bath. | WANG QiFen,WANG ChengGuo,YU MeiJie,MA Jie,HU XiuYing & ZHU Bo Carbon Fiber Engineering Research Center,Key Laboratory for Liquid-Solid Structural Evolution and Processing of Materials (Ministry of Education),Shandong University,Jinan 250061,China | 2010 | Science China(Technological Sciences)2010,53,6: | 3 |

Results indicated that the addition of lubricant WS_2 substantially reduced wear rate of the Cu matrix composites fabricated by SPS,and the optimum content of WS_2 is 20 wt% with regard to the wear behavior. However, it affected a little to the wear rate while dramatically decreased the friction coefficient of the composite fabricated by HP.This difference in friction behavior of the self-lubricating composites fabricated by the two techniques was closely related to their different mechanical properties. | 20 | Statistical analysis of distribution patterns of coal seams in fold zones in Northwest China显示文摘The mechanisms for rock bursts occurrences in fold zones are complex, and the redistribution of in-situ stresses is closely related to the complexity of the structures. Analysis of the geomorphology of fold structures and changes of coal thickness can help identify zones prone to rock bursts to improve safety and productivity in coal mines. This study investigated the distribution characteristics of fold structures in coal seams in fold zones in four mines in northwest China. Geometrical characteristics of fold structures in coal seams and changes of coal thickness were analysed, based on comprehensive evaluation indexes,such as the length–width ratio of folds, interlimb angle, ratio P1 of projected width of fold limbs to that of the hinge zone, curvature ratio P2, the maximum curvature and amplitude. The statistical analysis of the four coal mines shows that the length–width ratio of folds changed from 0.78 to 2.03 and the maximum curvature of cross sections of folds was less than 0.04. The curvature ratio of cross section of a fold in the structure was no more than 1.4 and the interlimb angles of cross sections of 89% of folds were larger than 150°. Gentle fold structures were dominant and the specific geological morphologies were domes or basins. The isopleth of coal thickness above the coal mines showed a fluctuation trend similar to the contour line of the floor of coal seams. The coal thickness in an anticline area was smaller than that in the neighboring syncline area.
