| 1 | Latest research progress of marine microbiological corrosion and biofouling, and new approaches of marine anti-corrosion and anti-fouling显示文摘Marine resources and industry have become one of the most important pillars in economic development all over the world.However,corrosion of materials is always the most serious problem to the infrastructure and equipment served in marine environment.Researchers have found that microbiologically influenced corrosion(MIC)and marine bio-fouling are two main mechanisms of marine corrosions due to the complicated marine environment and marine organisms.This article summarized the latest research progress about these two mechanisms and indicated that both MIC and marine bio-fouling are closely related to the biofilms on material surfaces formed by the marine microorganisms and their metabolites.As a result,to prevent the occurrence of MIC and bio-fouling,it is important to control the microorganisms in biofilms or prevent the adhesion and formation of biofilms.The traditional method of using chemical bactericide or antifoulant faces the problems of pollution and microorganism resistance.This article introduced four research approaches about the new tendency of applying new materials and technologies to cooperate with traditional chemicals to achieve better and longer effects with lower environment pollution through synergistic actions.Finally,some future research tendencies were proposed for whole marine anti-corrosion and anti-fouling areas. | Yangfan Li Chengyun Ning | 2019 | Bioactive Materials2019,4,1: | 13 |

| 3 | Exosome-functionalized polyetheretherketone-based implant with immunomodulatory property for enhancing osseointegration显示文摘The host immune response effecting on biomaterials is critical to determine implant fates and bone regeneration property.Bone marrow stem cells(BMSCs)derived exosomes(Exos)contain multiple biosignal molecules and have been demonstrated to exhibit immunomodulatory functions.Herein,we develop a BMSC-derived Exos-functionalized implant to accelerate bone integration by immunoregulation.BMSC-derived Exos were reversibly incorporated on tannic acid(TA)modified sulfonated polyetheretherketone(SPEEK)via the strong interaction of TA with biomacromolecules.The slowly released Exos from SPEEK can be phagocytosed by co-cultured cells,which could efficiently improve the biocompatibilities of SPEEK.In vitro results showed the Exos loaded SPEEK promoted macrophage M2 polarization via the NF-κB pathway to enhance BMSCs osteogenic differentiation.Further in vivo rat air-pouch model and rat femoral drilling model assessment of Exos loaded SPEEK revealed efficient macrophage M2 polarization,desirable new bone formation,and satisfactory osseointegration.Thus,BMSC-derived Exos-functionalized implant exerted osteoimmunomodulation effect to promote osteogenesis. | Lei Fan Pengfei Guan Cairong Xiao Huiquan Wen Qiyou Wang Can Liu Yian Luo Limin Ma Guoxin Tan Peng Yu Lei Zhou Chengyun Ning | 2021 | Bioactive Materials2021,6,9: | 11 |

| 6 | Platform for dynamic virtual auditory environment real-time rendering system显示文摘This paper reports the recent works and progress on a PC and C++ language-based virtual auditory environment(VAE) system platform.By tracing the temporary location and orientation of listener's head and dynamically simulating the acoustic propagation from sound source to two ears,the system is capable of recreating free-field virtual sources at various directions and distances as well as auditory perception in reflective environment via headphone presentation.Schemes for improving VAE performance,including PCA-based(principal components analysis) near-field virtual source synthesis,simulating six degrees of freedom of head movement,are proposed.Especially,the PCA-based scheme greatly reduces the computational cost of multiple virtual sources synthesis.Test demonstrates that the system exhibits improved performances as compared with some existing systems.It is able to simultaneously render up to 280 virtual sources using conventional scheme,and 4500 virtual sources using the PCA-based scheme.A set of psychoacoustic experiments also validate the performance of the system,and at the same time,provide some preliminary results on the research of binaural hearing.The functions of the VAE system is being extended and the system serves as a flexible and powerful platform for future binaural hearing researches and virtual reality applications. | ZHANG ChengYun XIE BoSun | 2013 | Chinese Science Bulletin2013,58,3: | 10 |
| 7 | Brassinosteroid Enhances Jasmonate-Induced Anthocyanin Accumulation in Arabidopsis Seedlings显示文摘Jasmonate (JA) regulates plant development, mediates defense responses, and induces anthocyanin biosynthesis as well. Previously, we isolated the psc1 mutant that partially suppressed coi1 insensitivity to JA, and found that brassinosteroid (BR) was involved in JA signaling and negatively regulated JA inhibition of root growth in Arabidopsis. In this study it was shown that JA-induced anthocyanin accumulation was reduced in BR mutants or in wild type treated with brassinazole, an inhibitor of BR biosynthesis, whereas it was induced by an application of exogenous BR. It was also shown that the'late'anthocyanin biosynthesis genes including DFR, LDOX , and UF3GT, were induced slightly by JA in the BR mutants relative to wild type. Furthermore, the expression level of JA-induced Myb/bHLH transcription factors such as PAP1, PAP2, and GL3, which are components of the WD-repeat/Myb/bHLH transcriptional complexes that mediate the 'late' anthocyanin biosynthesis genes, was lower in the BR mutants than that in wild type. | 8 | Corrosion mechanism of micro-arc oxidation treated biocompatible AZ31 magnesium alloy in simulated body fluid显示文摘The rapid degradation of magnesium(Mg) based alloys has prevented their further use in orthopedic trauma fixation and vascular intervention,and therefore it is essential to investigate the corrosion mechanism for improving the corrosion resistance of these alloys. In this work, the effect of applied voltage on the surface morphology and the corrosion behavior of micro-arc oxidation(MAO) with different voltages were carried out to obtain biocompatible ceramic coatings on AZ31 Mg alloy. The effects of applied voltage on the surface morphology and the corrosion behavior of MAO samples in the simulated body fluid(SBF) were studied systematically. Scanning electron microscope(SEM) and X-ray diffractometer(XRD)were employed to characterize the morphologies and phase compositions of coating before and after corrosion. The results showed that corrosion resistance of the MAO coating obtained at 250 V was better than the others in SBF. The dense layer of MAO coating and the corrosion precipitation were the key factors for corrosion behavior. The corrosion of precipitation Mg(OH)2and the calcium phosphate(Ca–P) minerals on the surface of MAO coatings could enhance their corrosion resistance effectively. | 9 | Promoting Bone Mesenchymal Stem Cells and Inhibiting Bacterial Adhesion of Acid-Etched Nanostructured Titanium by Ultraviolet Functionalization显示文摘Titanium(Ti) and its alloys are used extensively in orthopedic implants because of their excellent biocompatibility,mechanical properties and corrosion resistance. However,titanium-based implant materials face many severe complications,such as implant loosening due to poor osseointegration and bacterial infections,which may lead to implant failure. Hence,preparing a biomaterial surface,which enhances the interactions with host cells and inhibits bacterial adhesion,may be an optimal strategy to reduce the incidence of implant failure. This study aims to improve osseointegration and confer antibacterial properties on Ti through a combination of two surface modifications including nanostructuring generated by acid etching and ultraviolet(UV) light treatment.Our results showed that without UV treatment,the acid etching treatment of Ti surface was effective at both improving the adhesion of bone mesenchymal stem cells(BMSCs) and increasing bacterial adhesion. A further UV treatment of the acid-etched surface however,not only significantly improved the cell adhesion but also inhibited bacterial adhesion. The acid-etched nanostructured titanium with UV treatment also showed a significant enhancement on cell proliferation,alkaline phosphatase(ALP) activity and mineralization. | 11 | Arabidopsis EXO70A1 recruits Patellin3 to the cell membrane independent of its role as an exocyst subunit显示文摘The exocyst is a well-known complex which tethers vesicles at the cell membrane before fusion. Whether an individual subunit can execute a unique function is largely unknown. Using yeast-two-hybrid(Y2H) analysis, we found that EXO70A1 interacted with the GOLD domain of Patellin3(PATL3). The direct EXO70A1-PATL3 interaction was supported by in vitro and in vivo experiments. In Arabidopsis, PATL3-GFP colocalized with EXO70A1 predominantly at the cell membrane, and PATL3 localization was insensitive to BFA and Try A23. Remarkably, in the exo70 a1 mutant, PATL3 proteins accumulated as punctate structures within the cytosol, which did not colocalize with several endomembrane compartment markers, and was insensitive to BFA. Furthermore, PATL3 localization was not changed in the exo70 e2, PRsec6 or exo84b mutants. These data suggested that EXO70A1, but not other exocyst subunits, was responsible for PATL3 localization,which is independent of its role in secretory/recycling vesicletethering/fusion. Both EXO70A1 and PATL3 were shown to bind PI4 P and PI(4,5)P2 in vitro. | 16 | An injectable,self-healing,electroconductive extracellular matrix-based hydrogel for enhancing tissue repair after traumatic spinal cord injury显示文摘Injectable biomaterial-based treatment is a promising strategy to enhance tissue repair after traumatic spinal cord injury(SCI)by bridging cavity spaces.However,there are limited reports of injectable,electroconductive hydrogels with self-healing properties being employed for the treatment of traumatic SCI.Hence,a natural extracellular matrix(ECM)biopolymer(chondroitin sulphate and gelatin)-based hydrogel containing polypyrrole,which imparted electroconductive properties,is developed for traumatic SCI repair.The resulting hydrogels showed mechanical(~928 Pa)and conductive properties(4.49 mS/cm)similar to natural spinal cord tissues.Moreover,the hydrogels exhibited shear-thinning and self-healing abilities,which allows it to be effectively injected into the injury site and to fill the lesion cavity to accelerate the tissue repair of traumatic SCI.In vitro,electroconductive ECM hydrogels promoted neuronal differentiation,enhanced axon outgrowth,and inhibited astrocyte differentiation.The electroconductive ECM hydrogel activated endogenous neural stem cell neurogenesis in vivo(n=6),and induced myelinated axon regeneration into the lesion site via activation of the PI3K/AKT and MEK/ERK pathways,thereby achieving significant locomotor function restoration in rats with spinal cord injury(p<0.001,compared to SCI group).Overall,the injectable self-healing electroconductive ECM-based hydrogels developed in this study are ideal biomaterials for treatment of traumatic SCI. | Yian Luo Lei Fan Can Liu Huiquan Wen Shihuan Wang Pengfei Guan Dafu Chen Chengyun Ning Lei Zhou Guoxin Tan | 2022 | Bioactive Materials2022,7,1: | 2 |
| 17 | Erythropoiesis-stimulating agents in the management of cancer patients with anemia: a meta-analysis显示文摘Background: Erythropoiesis-stimulating agents(ESAs) are widely used in the management of anemia in cancer patients. Despite their apparent effectiveness, recent studies have suggested that ESAs could result in serious adverse events and even higher mortality. The aim of the current study was to evaluate the benefits and risks of ESAs in the management of cancer patients with anemia using a meta-analysis.Methods: The initial literature search covered Medline, PubMed, Embase, and the Cochrane Center Register of Controlled Trials, and identified 1,569 articles. The final meta-analysis included eight randomized controlled trials(n=2,387) in cancer patients with <11 g/dL hemoglobin(Hb) at the baseline and target Hb(for stopping ESA treatment) at no more than 13 g/dL. The assessment measures included Hb response, blood transfusion rate and adverse events that included venous thromboemblism(VTE), hypertension, and on-study mortality. The results are expressed as pooled odds ratio(OR). Publication bias was assessed using funnel plot analysis.Results: ESAs significantly increased the Hb concentration [OR 7.85, 95% confidence interval(CI): 5.85 to 10.53, P<0.001] and reduced the red blood cell(RBC) transfusion rate(OR 0.52, 95% CI: 0.42 to 0.65, P<0.001). | 20 | The function of three indigenous plasmids in Mesorhizobium huakuii 2020 and its symbiotic inter-action with Sym pJB5JI of Rhizobium leguminosarum显示文摘A Mesorhizobium huakuii strain 2020, isolated from a rice-growing field in southern China, contains three indigenous plasmids named p2020a, p2020b and p2020c, respectively. The plasmids were deleted via Tn5-sacB insertion, and two cured derivatives were obtained. Interestingly, the mutant 2020D29 curing of p2020c could significantly enhance the capacity of symbiotic nitrogen fixation. But the mutant 2020D8 curing of p2020b lost the ability to nodulate Astragalus sinicus. Furthermore, the third plasmid p2020a could be hardly eliminated, suggesting that some house-keeping genes necessary for strain growth located on this plasmid. Then the Sym plasmid pJB5JI of R. leguminosarum bv. viciae was transferred into 2020 and its cured derivatives. The pot plant test showed that the ability of competition and symbiotic nitrogen fixation of transconjugant 2020-137 (pJB5JI) was increased evidently in con-trast to 2020. pJB5JI could not restore the ability of 2020D8 to nodulate Astragalus sinicus. 2020D8-8 (pJB5JI) could form ineffective nodules on peas, which implied that the symbiotic plasmid pJB5JI could express its function at the chromosomal background of Mesorhizobium huakuii 2020. The plas-mid stability was checked in transconjugants under free-living and during symbiosis. The results indi-cated that pJB5JI failed to be detected in some nodule isolates.
