1Rare earth elements and carbon isotope geochemistry of the Doushantuo Formation in South China:Implication for middle Ediacaran shallow marine redox conditions显示文摘The middle Ediacaran Shuram excursion, the largest negative δ 13 C carb excursion in Earth history, has been interpreted as indirect evidence for episodic oxidation and remineralization of deep ocean DOC (dissolved organic carbon). It has been hypothesized that such oxidation event may have occurred when anoxic DOC-laden deep water was brought to shallow shelves during oceanic upwelling, which is expected to cause localized anoxia in shallow environments. To test this prediction, we systematically analyzed rare earth elements (REE) and δ 13 C carb of the upper Doushantuo Formation carbonates in the Yangtze Gorges area of South China, which were deposited in an inner shelf environment and record a large negative δ 13 C carb excursion correlated to the Shuram event. The REE data show a significant positive shift in Ce/Ce* values, synchronous with a pronounced negative δ 13 C carb shift. This positive Ce/Ce* shift is interpreted to represent an oceanic anoxia event in shallow shelf environments, which may have been caused by the upwelling or impingement of oxygen-depleted and 12 C-enriched deep water onto shelves. 3The Weng'an biota and the Ediacaran radiation of multicellular eukaryotes显示文摘The rise of multicellularity represents a major evolutionary transition and it occurred independently in multiple eukaryote clades.Although simple multicellular organisms may have evolved in the Mesoproterozoic Era or even earlier,complex multicellular eukaryotes began to diversify only in the Ediacaran Period,just before the Cambrian explosion.hus,the Ediacaran fossil record can provide key paleontological evidence about the early radiation of multicellular eukaryotes that ultimately culminated in the Cambrian explosion.he Ediacaran Weng’an biota in South China hosts exceptionally preserved eukaryote fossils,including various acanthomorphic acritarchs,pseudoparenchymatous thalli,tubular microfossils,and spheroidal fossils such as Megasphaera,Helicoforamina,Spiralicellula,and Caveasphaera.Many of these fossils have been interpreted as multicellular eukaryotes,although alternative interpretations have also been proposed.In this review,we critically examine these various interpretations,focusing particularly on Megasphaera,which has been variously interpreted as a sulfur-oxidizing bacterium,a unicellular protist,a mesomycetozoean-like holozoan,a volvocine green alga,a stem-group animal,or a crown-group animal.We conclude that Megasphaera is a multicellular eukaryote with evidence for cell-to-cell adhesion,a lexible membrane unconstrained by a rigid cell wall,spatial cellular diferentiation,germ–soma separation,and programmed cell death.hese features are inconsistent with the bacterium,unicellular protist,and mesomycetozoean-like holozoan interpretations.hus,the surviving hypotheses,particularly the stem-group animal and algal interpretations,should be further tested with additional evidence.he Weng’an biota also hosts cellularly diferentiated pseudoparenchymatous thalli with specialized reproductive structures indicative of an ainity with lorideophyte red algae.he other Weng’an fossils reviewed here may also be multicellular eukaryotes,although direct cellular evidence is lacking in some and phylogenetic ainities are poorly constrained in others.he Weng’an biota ofers many research opportunities to resolve the life histories and phylogenetic diversity of early multicellular eukaryotes and to illuminate the evolutionary prelude to the Cambrian explosion.Shuhai Xiao A.D.Muscente Lei Chen Chuanming Zhou James D.Schiffbauer Andrew D.Wood Nicholas F.Polys Xunlai Yuan 2014National Science Review2014,1,4:9

5Insight into the topology effect on the diffusion of ethene and propene in zeolites: A molecular dynamics simulation study显示文摘Selectivity control is a difficult scientific and industrial challenge in methanol-to-olefins(MTO)conversion.It has been experimentally established that the topology of zeolite catalysts influenced the distribution of products.Besides the topology effect on reaction kinetics,the topology influences the diffusion of reactants and products in catalysts as well.In this work,by using COMPASS force-field molecular dynamics method,we investigated the intracrystalline diffusion of ethene and propene in four different zeolites,CHA,MFI,BEA and FAU,at different temperatures.The self-diffusion coefficients and diffusion activation barriers were calculated.A strong restriction on the diffusion of propene in CHA was observed because the self-diffusion coefficient ratio of ethene to propene is larger than 18 and the diffusion activation barrier of propene is more than 20 kJ/mol in CHA.This ratio decreases with the increase of temperature in the four investigated zeolites.The shape selectivity on products from diffusion perspective can provide some implications on the understanding of the selectivity difference between HSAPO-34 and HZSM-5 catalysts for the MTO conversion.Chuanming Wang Bowei Li Yangdong Wang Zaiku Xie 2013Journal of Energy Chemistry2013,22,6:6

7Phosphatized biotas from the Neoproterozoic Doushantuo Formation on the Yangtze Platform显示文摘The Doushantuo Formation in South China was deposited after the Nantuo glaciation but before the evolution of complex Ediacaran metazoans. It contains multiple taphonomic windows, in its cherts, carbonaceous shales, and phosphorites, onto the late Neoproterozoic biosphere. The phosphatic window is unusually clear; Doushantuo phosphorites at Weng’an (Guizhou Province) are known to exquisitely preserve a multitude of single-celled eukaryotes, muiticellular algae, and microscopic animals. Our recent survey reveals that, in addition to the now famous Weng’an locality, Doushantuo phosphorites at Baokang (Hubei), Chadian (Shaanxi), and Shangrao (Jiangxi) also contain diverse eukaryotes preserved at the cellular level. All these phosphorites were deposited in shallow-water environments, typically above fair weather wave base and close to ancient islands. 8Contourlet HMT model with directional feature显示文摘According to Shanno's information theory,the directional feature of texture is defined as the value of directional variable when an image signal attains a singularity of random distribution.In terms of this definition,we calculate the texture's directional features using Tamura's method and study the directional probability distribution of Contourlet coefficients.Then we find that the directional features tend to be conveyed across parent and child subbands.Based on this conclusion,we establish a novel probability distribution model of hidden direction variables under the condition of hidden state variable's distribution,named Contourlet HMT model with directional feature.The structure and training method of the model are presented as well.Moreover,an unsupervised context-based image segmentation algorithm is proposed on the basis of the proposed model.Its effectiveness is verified via extensive experiments carried out on several synthesized images and remote sensing images.WANG XiangHai CHEN MingYing SONG ChuanMing XU MengChun FANG LingLing 2012Science China(Information Sciences)2012,55,7:6
9Non-noble metal single-atom catalysts prepared by wet chemical method and their applications in electrochemical water splitting显示文摘Water splitting by electrolysis is an appealing pathway for sustainable hydrogen production. The practical performance of water splitting is highly dependent on the efficiency of electrocatalysts, which can promote the anodic oxygen evolution reaction(OER) or cathodic hydrogen evolution reaction(HER). Downsizing the metal nanostructures to atomic level to construct single-atom catalysts(SACs) has attracted enormous attention due to its distinct advantages in maximizing the efficiency of metal atom utilization and enhancing activity over corresponding metal nanoparticles. Research on SACs towards electrochemical water splitting application is an emerging field and intensive investigations have been focused on their rational syntheses and applications in HER/OER. In this review, we focus on the wet chemical method developed to prepare non-noble metal based SACs with an emphasis on the synthetic strategies and structure-activity relationship between single metal atoms and catalytic activity. 11An important military city of the Early Western Zhou Dynasty:Archaeobotanical evidence from the Chenzhuang site,Gaoqing,Shandong Province显示文摘In ancient Chinese history,the Western Zhou Dynasty has long been renowned for having expanded its control and territory into many other states.However,historical documents and archaeological records of this period are limited;thus the early history of the Western Zhou Dynasty's operation in eastern China and its establishment of the Qi and Lu states have been unclear.The discovery of the Chenzhuang city site in Gaoqing County,Shandong Province,with chariot-horse pits,an altar and bronze vessels with inscriptions,adds a new line of evidence for studying the history of this period.However,with no direct evidence,the nature of the city site is controversial.Plant remains,especially a large number of sweet clover seeds,recovered from this site by systematic archaeobotanical methods provide an important source of information for research into the site's function.Considering that modern sweet clover is superior fodder for horses and the sweet clover seeds from the Chenzhuang site coexist with chariot-horse pits and horse remains,it is suggested these sweet clover seeds might represent the fodder of battle steeds.This suggestion supports the opinion of those who believe the Chenzhuang city site was once an important military city of the Western Zhou Dynasty in eastern China.JIN GuiYun ZHENG TongXiu LIU ChangJiang WANG ChuanMing GAO MingKui 2012Chinese Science Bulletin2012,57,2:3

13Functionals on the Spaces of Convex Bodies显示文摘In geometry, there are several challenging problems studying numbers associated to convex bodies. For example, the packing density problem, the kissing number problem, the covering density problem, the packing-covering constant problem, Hadwiger's covering conjecture and Borsuk's partition conjecture. They are fundamental and fascinating problems about the same ob jects. However, up to now, both the methodology and the technique applied to them are essentially different. Therefore,a common foundation for them has been much expected. By treating problems of these types as functionals defined on the spaces of n-dimensional convex bodies, this paper tries to create such a foundation. 14Anatomy and plant affinity of Chuaria显示文摘Chuaria is one of the few globally distributed macrofossil pioneers documented in the Precambrian. It is perhaps the most controversial fossil in term of its affinity despite more than one hundred years of study. Many mutually exclusive affinities have been suggested for this frequently encountered fossil. Although often treated as a multicellular alga, this interpretation remains inconclusive because the lacking unambiguous demonstration of cellular structures. In this paper the cellular details of Chuaria are clearly revealed for the first time. The cell walls in Chuaria suggest that it is a multicellular eukaryotic alga, in agreement with the latest biogeochemical analyses. Different thicknesses of cell walls suggest primary cellular differentiation in this organism. Membrane-like structures within the cells (the first to be reported in Precambrian fossils) imply a eukaryotic nature. 15A Great late Ediacaran ice age显示文摘The emergence of the Ediacara biota soon after the Gaskiers glaciation ca.580 million years ago(Ma)implies a possible glacial fuse for the evolution of animals.However,the timing of Ediacaran glaciation remains controversial because of poor age constraints on the∼30 Ediacaran glacial deposits known worldwide.In addition,paleomagnetic constraints and a lack of convincing Snowball-like cap carbonates indicate that Ediacaran glaciations likely did not occur at low latitudes.Thus,reconciling the global occurrences without global glaciation remains a paradox.Here,we report that the large amplitude,globally synchronous ca.571–562 Ma Shuram carbon isotope excursion occurs below the Ediacaran Hankalchough glacial deposit in Tarim,confirming a post-Shuram glaciation.Leveraging paleomagnetic evidence for a∼90°reorientation of all continents due to true polar wander,and a non-Snowball condition that rules out low-latitude glaciations,we use paleogeographic reconstructions to further constrain glacial ages.Our results depict a‘Great Ediacaran Glaciation’occurring diachronously but continuously from ca.580–560 Ma as different continents migrated through polar–temperate latitudes.The succession of radiation,turnover and extinction of the Ediacara biota strongly reflects glacial–deglacial dynamics.Ruimin Wang Bing Shen Xianguo Lang Bin Wen Ross N.Mitchell Haoran Ma Zongjun Yin Yongbo Peng Yonggang Liu Chuanming Zhou 2023National Science Review2023,10,8:2
16Ediacaran integrative stratigraphy and timescale of China显示文摘Ediacaran successions occur widely in various depositional facies in South China and yield a series of fossil Lagerst?tten, providing a complete fossil record for the evolution of marine ecosystems after the terminal Cryogenian global glaciation. Carbonate-dominated Ediacaran successions in shallow water facies in South China record a nearly complete δ^(13)C profile that may reflect variations of marine carbon isotopic composition during the Ediacaran Period. The Ediacaran fossils andδ^(13)C profiles from South China permit stratigraphic correlation and subdivision of the Ediacaran strata. Based on biostratigraphic, chemostratigraphic, and geochronometric data from the Ediacaran successions in South China, we propose that the Ediacaran System in China can be subdivided into two series, with three stages in each series. The lower series is characterized by acanthomorphic acritarchs and the upper series by Ediacara-type macrofossils, and the two series are separated by the declining limb of a pronounced δ^(13)C negative excursion(EN3) in the upper Doushantuo Formation. The basal boundary of Stage1 is the same as the basal boundary of Ediacaran System, which has been defined at the base of the cap carbonate unit. Stage 2 represents the first radiation of Ediacaran microscopic organisms, with δ^(13)C feature representing by positive values(EP1). The base of the Stage 2 is placed at the first appearance level of a spiny acritarch species. Stage 3 is characterized by the occurrence of more diverse acritarchs and δ^(13)C feature EP2, with its basal boundary defined by a δ^(13)C negative excursion(EN2) occurring in the middle Doushantuo Formation. The basal boundary of Stage 4 is the same as the upper series. Stage 5 is marked by the occurrence of macrfossils of Miaohe biota, and its lower boundary can be placed at the level where δ^(13)C values transition from positive to negative in MNE, or the first appearance level of macrofossils of the Miaohe biota. Stage 6 is characterized by the occurrences of Ediacara-type Shibantan biota and Gaojiashan biota, with its lower boundary defined by the first appearance level of Conotubus hemiannulatus. The formal establishment of the aforementioned series and stages requires further and more detailed integrative stratigraphic study on the Ediacaran successions in China. 17Cracking the superheavy pyrite enigma:possible roles of volatile organosulfur compound emission显示文摘The global deposition of superheavy pyrite(pyrite isotopically heavier than coeval seawater sulfate in the Neoproterozoic Era and particularly in the Cryogenian Period)defies explanation using the canonical marine sulfur cycle system.Here we report petrographic and sulfur isotopic data(δ^(34)Spy)of superheavy pyrite from the Cryogenian Datangpo Formation(660–650 Ma)in South China.Our data indicate a syndepositional/early diagenetic origin of the Datangpo superheavy pyrite,with ^(34)S-enriched H_(2)S supplied from sulfidic(H_(2)S rich)seawater.Instructed by a novel sulfur-cycling model,we propose that the emission of ^(34)S-depleted volatile organosulfur compounds(VOSC)that were generated via sulfide methylation may have contributed to the formation of ^(34)S-enriched sulfidic seawater and superheavy pyrite.The global emission of VOSC may be attributed to enhanced organic matter production after the Sturtian glaciation in the context of widespread sulfidic conditions.These findings demonstrate that VOSC cycling is an important component of the sulfur cycle in Proterozoic oceans.Xianguo Lang Zhouqiao Zhao Haoran Ma Kangjun Huang Songzhuo Li Chuanming Zhou Shuhai Xiao Yongbo Peng Yonggang Liu Wenbo Tang Bing Shen 2021National Science Review2021,8,10:2
18Influence of anchorage length and pretension on the working resistance of rock bolt based on its tensile characteristics显示文摘In coal mining roadway support design,the working resistance of the rock bolt is the key factor affecting its maximum support load.Effective improvement of the working resistance is of great significance to roadway support.Based on the rock bolt’s tensile characteristics and the mining roadway surrounding rock deformation,a mechanical model for calculating the working resistance of the rock bolt was established and solved.Taking the mining roadway of the 17102(3)working face at the Panji No.3 Coal Mine of China as a research site,with a quadrilateral section roadway,the influence of pretension and anchorage length on the working resistance of high-strength and ordinary rock bolts in the middle and corner of the roadway is studied.The results show that when the bolt is in the elastic stage,increasing the pretension and anchorage length can effectively improve the working resistance.When the bolt is in the yield and strain-strengthening stages,increasing the pretension and anchorage length cannot effectively improve the working resistance.The influence of pretension and anchorage length on the ordinary and high-strength bolts is similar.The ordinary bolt’s working resistance is approximately 25 kN less than that of the high-strength bolt.When pretension and anchorage length are considered separately,the best pretensions of the high-strength bolt in the middle of the roadway side and the roadway corner are 41.55 and 104.26 kN,respectively,and the best anchorage lengths are 1.54 and 2.12 m,respectively.The best anchorage length of the ordinary bolt is the same as that of the high-strength bolt,and the best pretension for the ordinary bolt in the middle of the roadway side and at the roadway corner is 33.51 and 85.12 kN,respectively.The research results can provide a theoretical basis for supporting the design of quadrilateral mining roadways.Jucai Chang Kai He Dongdong Pang Dong Li Chuanming Li Bingjun Sun 2021International Journal of Coal Science & Technology2021,8,6:2
