| 4 | High expression levels of IKK alpha and IKK beta are necessary for the malignant properties of liver cancer显示文摘IKK-NF-kappa B signaling is regarded as an important factor in hepatocarcinogenesis and a potential target for liver cancer therapy.Therefore,in this study,we analyzed the expression of mRNAs encoding components and targets of NF-kappa B signaling including IKK alpha,IKK beta,RANK,RANKL,OPG,CyclinD3,mammary serine protease inhibitor(Maspin),CyclinD1,c-FLIP,Bcl-x1,Stat3,Cip1 and Cip2 by real-time PCR in 40 patients with liver cancer.After statistical analysis,7 indices including IKK alpha,IKK beta,RANK,Maspin,c-FLIP,Cip2 and cyclinD1 were found to show significant differences between tumor tissue and its corresponding adjacent tissue.When IKK alpha and IKK beta were downregulated in the hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) cell lines of MHCC-97L and MHCC-97H in vitro,the numbers of BrdU positive cells were decreased in both IKK alpha and IKK beta knockdown cells.Levels of apoptosis were also investigated in IKK alpha and IKK beta knockdown cells.The growth of HCC was inhibited in the subcutaneous implantation model,and lung metastatogenesis was also significantly inhibited in the kidney capsule transplantation model.Downregulation of IKK alpha and IKK beta in HCC cultured in vitro revealed that increased Maspin,OPG and RANKL expression was associated with metastasis of HCC.These findings were associated with downregulation of Bcl-XL and c-FLIP,which may be the reason for increased apoptosis.The therapeutic effect of IKK alpha and IKK beta downregulation depends on extent of NF-kappa B inhibition and the malignant nature of the HCC.We anticipate that IKK-targeted gene therapy can be used in the treatment of HCC,a cancer that is notoriously resistant to radiation and chemotherapy. | Jiang,RQ Xia,YX Li,J Deng,L Zhao,L Shi,J Wang,XH Sun,BC Nanjing Med Univ,Liver Transplantat Ctr,Affiliated Hosp 1,Nanjing,Jiangsu Prov,Peoples R China Nanjing Med Univ,Ctr Canc,Nanjing,Jiangsu Prov,Peoples R China | 2010 | 南京医科大学学报(自然科学版)2010,30,5: | 13 |

| 7 | Juvenile hominoid cranium from the terminal Miocene of Yunnan,China显示文摘Fossil apes are known from several late Miocene localities in Yunnan Province,southwestern China,principally from Shihuiba(Lufeng)and the Yuanmou Basin,and represent three species of Lufengpithecus.They mostly comprise large samples of isolated teeth,but there are also several partial or complete adult crania from Shihuiba and a single juvenile cranium from Yuanmou.Here we describe a new,relatively complete and largely undistorted juvenile cranium from the terminal Miocene locality of Shuitangba,also in Yunnan.It is only the second ape juvenile cranium recovered from the Miocene of Eurasia and it is provisionally assigned to the species present at Shihuiba,Lufengpithecus lufengensis.Lufengpithecus has most often been linked to the extant orangutan,Pongo pygmaeus,but recent studies of the crania from Shihuiba and Yuanmou have demonstrated that this is unlikely.The new cranium reinforces the view that Lufengpithecus represents a distinct,late surviving lineage of large apes in the late Miocene of East Asia that does not appear to be closely affiliated with any extant ape lineage.It substantially increases knowledge of cranial morphology in Lufengpithecus and demonstrates that species of this genus represent a morphologically diverse radiation of apes,which is consistent with the dynamic tectonic and biotic milieu of southwestern China in the late Miocene. | JI XuePing JABLONSKI Nina G SU Denise F DENG ChengLong FLYNN Lawrence J YOU YouShan KELLEY Jay | 2013 | Chinese Science Bulletin2013,58,31: | 8 |

| 11 | Osteological evidence for predatory behavior of the giant percrocutid (Dinocrocuta gigantea) as an active hunter显示文摘We present osteological evidence that a rhinocerotid skull belonging to a female Chilotherium wimani was bitten by a giant percrocutid, Dinocrocuta gigantea. Aided by comparative evidence of black rhino (Diceros bicornis) predation by extant spotted hyenas Crocuta crocuta, we interpret the healed wound on the C. wimani female as an injury incurred by the late Miocene D. gigantea. The hunting paleoecology of the giant percrocutid D. gigantea has long been speculated, but thus far no clear evidence has been discovered to point to the predatory habits of this carnivore.
