1Effectiveness of Different Waist Circumference Cut-off Values in Predicting Metabolic Syndrome Prevalence and Risk Factors in Adults in China显示文摘Objective To study the effectiveness of waist circumference cut-off values in predicting the prevalence of metabolic syndrome(MetS) and risk factors in adults in China. Methods A cross-sectional survey was condcuted in 14 provinces(autonomous region, municipality) in China. A total of 47 325 adults aged ≥20 years were selected by multistage stratified sampling, and questionnaire survey and physical and clinical examination were conducted among them. MetS was defined according to the International Diabetes Federation(IDF) criteria and modified IDF criteria.Results The age-standardized prevalence of MetS was 24.2%(22.1% in men and 25.8% in women) and 19.5%(22.1% in men and 18.0% in women) according to the IDF criteria and modified IDF criteria respectively. The age-standardized prevalence of pre-MetS was 8.1%(8.6% in men and 7.8% in women) according to the modified IDF criteria. The prevalence of MetS was higher in urban residents than rural residents and in northern China residents than in southern China residents. The prevalence of central obesity was about 30% in both men and women according to the ethnicity-specific cut-off values of waist circumference for central obesity(90 cm for men and 85 cm for women). Multivariate regression analysis revealed no significant difference in risk factors between the two MetS definitions. 2Chronic niacin overload may be involved in the increased prevalence of obesity in US children显示文摘AIM: To investigate nicotinamide’s action on glucose metabolism, and the association between niacin consumption and obesity prevalence. METHODS: Dynamic nicotinamide’s effect on plasma hydrogen peroxide and glucose metabolism was in- vestigated using oral glucose tolerance tests with or without nicotinamide in the same five healthy subjects.Lag-regression analysis was used to examine the association between the niacin consumption and the obesity prevalence among US children using the data from the Economic Research Service of the US Department of Agriculture and from US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, respectively. RESULTS: Compared with the control oral glucose tolerance test, the 1-h plasma hydrogen peroxide (1.4 ± 0.1 μmol/L vs 1.6 ± 0.1 μmol/L, P = 0.016) and insulin levels (247.1 ± 129.0 pmol/L vs 452.6 ± 181.8 pmol/L, P = 0.028) were signif icantly higher, and the 3-h blood glucose was signif icantly lower (5.8 ± 1.2 mmol/L vs 4.5 ± 1.1 mmol/L, P = 0.002) after coadministration of glucose and 300 mg nicotinamide. The obesity prevalence among American children increased with the increasing per capita niacin consumption, the increasing grain contribution to niacin due to niacin-fortification, and the increasing niacin-fortified ready-to-eat cereal consumption, with a 10-year lag. The regression analyses showed that the obesity prevalence in the US children of all age groups was determined by niacin consumption (R2 = 0.814, 0.961 and 0.94 for 2-5 years, 6-11 years and 12-19 years age groups, respectively). CONCLUSION: The appetite-stimulating effect of nicotinamide appears to involve oxidative stress. 4Nicotinamide overload may play a role in the development of type 2 diabetes显示文摘AIM: To investigate whether nicotinamide overload plays a role in type 2 diabetes. METHODS: Nicotinamide metabolic patterns of 14diabetic and 14 non-diabetic subjects were compared using HPLC. Cumulative effects of nicotinamide and N1-methylnicotinamide on glucose metabolism, plasma H2O2 levels and tissue nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD) contents of adult Sprague-Dawley rats were observed. The role of human sweat glands and rat skin in nicotinamide metabolism was investigated using sauna and burn injury, respectively. RESULTS: Diabetic subjects had significantly higher plasma N 1-methylnicotinamide levels 5 h after a 100-mg nicotinamide load than the non-diabetic subjects (0.89 ± 0.13 μmol/L vs 0.6 ± 0.13 μmol/L, P < 0.001). Cumulative doses of nicotinamide (2 g/kg) significantly increased rat plasma N 1-methy lnico-tinamide concentrations associated with severe insulin resistance, which was mimicked by N1-methy-lnicotinamide. Moreover, cumulative exposure to N1-methylnicotinamide (2 g/kg) markedly reduced rat muscle and liver NAD contents and erythrocyte NAD/NADH ratio, and increased plasma H2O2 levels. Decrease in NAD/NADH ratio and increase in H2O2 generation were also observed in human erythrocytes after exposure to N1-methylnicotinamide in vitro. Sweating eliminated excessive nicotinamide (5.3-fold increase in sweat nicotinamide concentration 1 h after a 100-mg nicotinamide load). Skin damage or aldehyde oxidase inhibition with tamoxifen or olanzapine, both being notorious for impairing glucose tolerance, delayed N1-methylnicotinamide clearance. 8VO2·0.2H2O nanocuboids anchored onto graphene sheets as the cathode material for ultrahigh capacity aqueous zinc ion batteries显示文摘Aqueous Zinc-ion batteries(ZIBs),using zinc negative electrode and aqueous electrolyte,have attracted great attention in energy storage field due to the reliable safety and low-cost.A composite material comprised of VO2·0.2H2O nanocuboids anchored on graphene sheets(VOG)is synthesized through a facile and efficient microwave-assisted solvothermal strategy and is used as aqueous ZIBs cathode material.Owing to the synergistic effects between the high conductivity of graphene sheets and the desirable structural features of VO2·0.2H2O nanocuboids,the VOG electrode has excellent electronic and ionic transport ability,resulting in superior Zn ions storage performance.The Zn/VOG system delivers ultrahigh specific capacity of 423 mAh·g^−1 at 0.25 A·g^−1 and exhibits good cycling stability of up to 1,000 cycles at 8 A·g^−1 with 87%capacity retention.Systematical structural and elemental characterizations confirm that the interlayer space of VO2·0.2H2O nanocuboids can adapt to the reversible Zn ions insertion/extraction.The as-prepared VOG composite is a promising cathode material with remarkable electrochemical performance for low-cost and safe aqueous rechargeable ZIBs.Dedong Jia Kun Zheng Ming Song Hua Tan Aitang Zhang Lihua Wang Lijun Yue Da Li Chenwei Li Jingquan Liu 2020Nano Research2020,13,1:6

12A new metabonomics method for simultaneous determination of EFAs and NEFAs in plasma using GC-MS and its application显示文摘A new metabonomics method was developed for simultaneous qualitative and quantitative analysis on esterified and nonesterified fatty acids(EFAs and NEFAs) in plasma.Merely 10μL of plasma was required.The pretreatment of the sample was simple without disposing the protein.After simple extraction and derivation,15 FAs in plasma were precisely quantified.Gas chromatography tandem mass spectrometry(GC-MS) was used in the study and the quantities of the analytes,which varied in abundance over three orders of magnitude.The established method showed good accuracy.The curve correlation coefficients were all above 0.997.The RSDs of precision for all compounds were below 15%and recoveries were all between 80 and 110%.PLS-DA modal was used in the data management.Li Da Han Qiong Lin Liang Yi Ming Wang Ping Hu Guo An Luo 2009Chinese Chemical Letters2009,20,9:5
13Face Detection Detection, Alignment Alignment, Quality Assessment and Attribute Analysis with Multi-Task Hybrid Convolutional Neural Networks显示文摘This paper proposes a universal framework,termed as Multi-Task Hybrid Convolutional Neural Network(MHCNN),for joint face detection,facial landmark detection,facial quality,and facial attribute analysis.MHCNN consists of a high-accuracy single stage detector(SSD)and an efficient tiny convolutional neural network(T-CNN)for joint face detection refinement,alignment and attribute analysis.Though the SSD face detectors achieve promising results,we find that applying a tiny CNN on detections further boosts the detected face scores and bounding boxes.By multi-task training,our T-CNN aims to provide five facial landmarks,facial quality scores,and facial attributes like wearing sunglasses and wearing masks.Since there is no public facial quality data and facial attribute data as we need,we contribute two datasets,namely FaceQ and FaceA,which are collected from the Internet.Experiments show that our MHCNN achieves face detection performance comparable to the state of the art in face detection data set and benchmark(FDDB),and gets reasonable results on AFLW,FaceQ and FaceA.GUO Da ZHENG Qingfang PENG Xiaojiang LIU Ming 2019ZTE Communications2019,17,3:5

18Inverse relations between Helicobacter pylori infection and risk of esophageal precancerous lesions in drinkers and peanut consumption显示文摘BACKGROUND Helicobacter pylori(H. pylori) is a Gram-negative bacterium found in the upper digestive tract. Although H. pylori infection is an identified risk factor for gastric cancer, its role in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma(ESCC) remains a topic of much debate.AIM To evaluate the association between H. pylori infection and the risk of precancerous lesions of ESCC, and further explore the association between dietary factors and the risk of H. pylori infection.METHODS Two hundred patients with esophageal precancerous lesions(EPL) aged 63.01 ± 6.08 years and 200 healthy controls aged 62.85 ± 6.03 years were included in this case-control study. Epidemiological data and qualitative food frequency data were investigated. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay measuring serum immunoglobulin G antibodies was used to determine H. pylori seropositivity. An unconditional logistic regression model was used to assess the association between H. pylori infection and EPL risk dichotomized by gender, age, and the use of tobacco and alcohol, as well as the association between dietary factors and the risk of H. pylori infection.RESULTS A total of 47(23.5%) EPL cases and 58(29.0%) healthy controls had positive H. pylori infection. An inverse relation between H. pylori infection and the risk of EPL was found in the group of drinkers after adjustment for covariates [odds ratio(OR) = 0.32, 95% confidence interval(95%CI): 0.11-0.95]. Additionally, peanut intake was significantly associated with a decreased risk of H. pylori infection(OR = 0.39, 95%CI: 0.20-0.74).CONCLUSION Our study suggested that H. pylori infection may decrease the risk of EPL for drinkers in a rural adult Chinese population, and the consumption of peanut may reduce the risk of H. pylori infection. 19Synergetic Effects of UV/Fe^(3+) Combined with Electrocatalysis for p-Nitrophenol Degradation显示文摘Synergetic effects for p-nitrophenol degradation were observed in the combination of two-advanced oxidation processes, UV/Fe3+ and electrocatalysis. The enhancement of removal rate for p-nitrophenol and COD was around 123% and 278%, respectively. 20Differentiation of human olfactory mucosa mesenchymal stem cells into photoreceptor cells in vitro显示文摘AIM:To investigate whether the human olfactory mucosa mesenchymal stem cells(OM-MSCs) can differentiate into photoreceptor cells in vitro.METHODS:Through the olfactory mucosa adherent method,olfactory mucosa was isolated,cultured and identified in vitro among mesenchymal stem cells.The cell surface markers were analyzed by flow cytometry,induced to differentiate into retinal photoreceptor cells in vitro,and the expression of rhodopsin was observed and identified by Immunofluorescence and Western blot methods.RESULTS:OM-MSCs from human were spindle cellbased,and showing radial colony arrangement.OM-MSCs were negative for CD34,CD45 and CD105,but positive for CD73 and CD90.Following induction,a strong positive reaction was produced by photoreceptor specific marker rhodopsin in the cells.CONSLUSION:This novel finding demonstrates that OM-MSCs can be cultured and expanded in vitro.They possess biological characteristics of mesenchymal stem cells,and have the ability to be induced into retinal cells.Wen Lu Da Duan Zacharia Ackbarkhan Ming Lu Min-Li Huang 2017International Journal of Ophthalmology(English edition)2017,10,10:2
