Molecular mechanism about lymphogenous metastasis of hepatocarcinoma cells in mice显示文摘AIM To investigate the correlation between lymphogenous metastasis and matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) activity and the expression of Fas Iigand of tumor cells in lymph nodes.METHODES Fifty-six inbred 615-mice were equally divided into 2 groups and inoculated with Hca-F and Hca-P cells. Their lymph node metastatic rates were examined.Growth fraction of lymphocytes in host lymph nodes was detected by flow cytometry. The Hca-F and Hca-P cells were cultured with extract of lymph node, liver or spleen. The quantity of MMPs in these supernatants was examined by zymographic analysis. The expression of Fas ligand,PCNA, Bcl-2 protein of Hca-F and Hca-P cells in the mice were examined by immunohistochemistry. The apoptosis signals of macrophages in lymph nodes were observed with in situ DNA fragmentation.RESULTS On the 28th day post-inoculation, the lymph node metastatic rate of Hca-F was 80% (16/20), whereas that of Hca-P was 25% (5/20). The growth fraction of lymphocytes was as follows: in the Hca-F cells, the proliferating peak of lymphocytes appeared on the 14th day post-inoculation and then decreased rapidly, while in HcaP cells, the peak appeared on the 7th day post-inoculation and then kept at a high level. With the extract of lymph node, the quantity of the MMP-9 activity increased (P<0.01) and active MMP-9 and MMP-2 were produced by both Hca-F and Hca-P tumor cells, which did not produce MMPs without the extract of lymph node or with the extracts of the liver and spleen. The expression of Fas Ligand of Hca-F cells was stronger than that of Hca-P cells (P<0.01). The expressions of PCNA and Bcl-2 protein of Hca-F cells in the tumors of inoculated area were the same as that of Hca-P cells. In situ DNA fragmentation showed that the positive signals of macrophages were around HcaF cells.CONCLUSION Secretion of MMPs which was associated with metastatic ability of Hca-F and Hca-P tumor cells depends on the environment of lymph nodes. The increased expression of Fas ligand protein of Hca-F tumor cells with high lymphogenous metastatic potential in lymph nodes may help tumor cells escape from being killed by host lymphocytes.Li Hou Ying Li Yong-Hua Jia Bo Wang Yi Xin Mao-Ying Ling Shen Lü Department of Pathology,Dalian Medical University,Dalian 116027,Liaoning Province,ChinaDepartment of Biochemistry,Dalian Medical University,Dalian 116027,Liaoning Province,China 2001World Journal of Gastroenterology2001,7,4:47

Modelling of multi-bodies in close proximity under water waves——Fluid resonance in narrow gaps显示文摘Viscous fluid model and potential flow model with and without artificial damping force(f=-μV,μ the damping coefficient and V the local averaging flow velocity) are employed in this work to investigate the phenomenon of fluid resonance in narrow gaps between multi-bodies in close proximity under water waves. The numerical results are compared with experimental data available in the literature. The comparison demonstrates that both the viscous fluid model and the potential flow model are able to predict the resonant frequency reasonably well. However the conventional potential flow model(without artificial damping term) significantly over-predicts the wave height in narrow gaps around the resonant frequency. In order to calibrate the appropriate damping coefficient used for the potential model and make it work as well as the viscous fluid model in predicting the resonant wave height in narrow gaps but with little computational efforts, the dependence of damping coefficient μ on the body geometric dimensions is examined considering the parameters of gap width Bg,body draft D,body breadth ratio Br and body number n(n = 2,3),where Br = BB/BA for the case of two bodies(Body A and Body B) with different breadths of BA and BB,respectively. It was confirmed that the damping coefficient used for the potential flow model is not sensitive to the geometric dimensions and spatial arrangement. It was found that μ∈ [0.4,0.5] may guarantee the variation of Hg/H0 with kh to be generally in good agreement with the experimental data and the results of viscous fluid model, where Hg is the excited wave height in narrow gaps under various dimensionless incident wave frequencies kh,H0 is the incident wave height,k = 2π/L is the wave number and h is the water depth.LU Lin1,2,TENG Bin3,CHENG Liang 4,SUN Liang5 & CHEN XiaoBo6 1 Center for Deepwater Engineering,Dalian University of Technology,Dalian 116024,China 2 State Key Laboratory of Structural Analysis for Industrial Equipment,Dalian University of Technology,Dalian 116024,China 3 State Key Laboratory of Coastal and Offshore Engineering,Dalian University of Technology,Dalian 116024,China 4 School of Civil and Resource Engineering,The University of Western Australia,Crawly 6003,Australia 5 Centre for Offshore Research and Engineering,Department of Civil Engineering,National University of Singapore,117576,Singapore 6 Research Department,Bureau Veritas,Neuilly-Sur-Seine,92570,France 2011Science China(Physics,Mechanics & Astronomy)2011,54,1:29
Numerical simulations of self-propelled swimming of 3D bionic fish school显示文摘Numerical simulations of self-propelled swimming of a three dimensional bionic fish and fish school in a viscous fluid are carried out. This is done with the assistance of a parallel software package produced for 3D moving boundary problems. This computational fluid dynamics package combines the adaptive multi-grid finite volume method, the immersed boundary method and VOF (volume of fluid) method. By using the package results of the self-propelled swimming of a 3D bionic fish and fish school in a vis- cous fluid are obtained. With comparison to the existing experimental measurements of living fishes, the predicted structure of vortical wakes is in good agreement with the measurements.WU ChuiJie1 & WANG Liang2 1 State Key Laboratory of Structural Analysis for Industrial Equipment, Dalian University of Technology, Dalian 116024, China 2 Research Center for Fluid Dynamics, People’s Liberation Army University of Science and Technology, Nanjing 211101, China 2009Science China(Technological Sciences)2009,52,3:23
Neuroprotection of aucubin in primary diabetic encephalopathy显示文摘Hippocampal neuronal apoptosis accompanied by impairment of cognitive function occurs in primary diabetic encephalopathy. In this study, we investigated the neuroprotective mechanism of the iridoid glycoside, aucubin, using rats (n=8). Diabetes mellitus was induced in the rats by intraperitoneal (i.p.) injection of streptozotocin (60 mg/kg body weight). After 65 d, half of the DM rats were administered aucubin (5 mg/kg; i.p.) for 15 d, yielding treatment DM+A. A third group of rats received no strepto- zotocin or aucibin, and served as controls (CON). Encephalopathy was assessed using Y-maze be- havioral testing. Rats were euthanized on Day 87, and hippocampi were excised for visual (light and transmission electron microscopic) and immunochemical (Western blot; immunohistochemical) as- sessments of the CA1 subfield for apoptosis and expression of regulatory proteins Bcl-2 and Bax. Treatment responses to all the parameters examined (body weight, plasma glucose, Y-maze error rates, pyramidal cell ultrastructure, proportions of apoptotic cells, levels of expression of Bcl-2 and Bax, and survivability of neuronal cells) were identical: there were highly significant differences between DM and CON groups (P<0.001), but the effects were significantly moderated (P<0.01) in DM+A compared with DM. These findings confirm the association of apoptosis with the encephalopathic effects of diabetes mellitus, and suggest a major role of the expression levels of Bcl-2 and Bax in the regulation of apop- totic cell death. All of the results suggest that aucubin could effectively inhibit apoptosis by modulating the expressions of Bcl-2 and Bax genes.XUE HongYu1, JIN LiJi1,2, JIN Lei1, ZHANG Peng1, LI DanQing4, XIA YanQiu1, LU YaNan1 & XU YongPing1,3 1 Department of Bioscience and Biotechnology, Dalian University of Technology, Dalian 116024, China 2 State Key Laboratory of Fine Chemicals, Dalian University of Technology, Dalian 116024, China 3 Dalian SEM Bioengineer and Biotech Ltd., Dalian 116024, China 4 The Second Affiliated Hospital, Dalian Medical University, Dalian 116024, China 2008Science China(Life Sciences)2008,51,6:22
The New Form of Time-Dependent Mild Slope Equation for Random Waves显示文摘The mild-slope equation derived by Berkhoff (1972), has widely been used in the numerical calculation of refraction and diffraction of regular waves. However, it is well known that the random sea waves has a significant effect in the refraction and diffraction problems. In this paper, a new form of time-dependent mild slope equation for irregular waves was derived with Fade approximation and Kubo’s time series concept. The equation was simplified using WKB method, and simple and practical irregular mild slope equation was obtained. Results of numerical calculations are compared with those of laboratory experiments.Zhang Yonggang , Li Yucheng Teng Bin Doctor Degree Candidate, The National Key Laboratory of Coastal and Offshore Engineering, Dalian University of Technology, Dalian 116023Professor, The National,Key Laboratory of Coastal and Offshore Engineering, Dalian University of Technology, Dalian 116023Associate Professor, The National Key Laboratory of Coastal and Offshore Engineering, Dalian University of Technology, Dalian 116023 1995China Ocean Engineering1995,10,4:21
Relation of chaos activity characteristics of the cardiac system with the evolution of species显示文摘According to the nonlinear theory, the experiments have been conducted on sample ECG (electrocardiogram) signals of healthy human beings, coronary heart disease patients and adult canines. On the basis of the analyses of the power spectra, the computation of the correlation dimension and the Lyapunov exponent to a large number of ECG signals, the following conclusions are shown: through the comparative research, (1) the analyses of the power spectra, the computation of the correlation dimension and the Lyapunov exponent to the ECG signals reflect the whole dynamic characteristics of the hearts, and they may become a new method of researching ECG quantitatively to an early diagnose of heart disease. (2) Under normal physiological conditions the cardiac activities are chaotic, while under pathologic conditions the cardiac activities approach regularity. (3) On the basis of the comparative research of human beings and canines, it is revealed that chaos may be a quantitative index to measure the evolutionWANG XingyuanSchool of Electronic and Information Engineering, Dalian University of Technology, Dalian 116024, China 2002Chinese Science Bulletin2002,47,24:21
Full-scale measurements of dynamic response of suspension bridge subjected to environmental loads using GPS technology显示文摘Nowadays, there are many larger and taller engineering structures than in the past. These structures are commonly designed to be more flexible. Thus, they are sensitive to severe wind gust and earthquake tremor. For the dynamic response prediction, finite element (FE) modal updating and structural health monitoring, the dynamic characteristics of a structure are becoming increasingly important. The aim of this paper is to show an emerging tool-the real time kinematic (RTK) global positioning system (GPS), which is used to measure and monitor the low-frequency vibration of Dalian BeiDa Bridge, a medium span suspension bridge. The modal analysis is firstly performed on the developed three-dimensional FE model according to the original blue prints of the bridge to provide the analytical frequencies and mode shapes. The field ambient vibration tests using the accelerometers on the bridge deck are conducted just prior to the use of the GPS system in order to validate the FE model. And then, the calibration test is done to assess the dynamic displacement measurement accuracy of the GPS in three orthogonal directions. The GPS signal properties, such as the amplitude, standard deviations (STD), power spectral density (PSD), and probability density functions (PDF), are studied in details. After that, a structural health monitoring system based on the GPS is devised and installed on the bridge to provide real-time measurement of deck movement. The output-only modal parameter identification is carried out by using the Periodogram method to investigate the responses of the bridge. The result shows that the spectral densities of the displacements measured by the GPS correspond well with the results by the FEM analysis and the accelerometer vibration test. It is concluded that the GPS method is reliable and useful to clarify the ambient vibration response behaviors of the flexible structures. The integration of the GPS and accelerometer methods results in a hybrid arrangement that can help to eliminate some disadvantages of the two devices used separately.YI TingHua1,2, LI HongNan1 & GU Ming2 1State Key Laboratory of Coastal and Offshore Engineering, Dalian University of Technology, Dalian 116024, China 2State Key Laboratory for Disaster Reduction in Civil Engineering, Tongji University, Shanghai 200092, China 2010Science China(Technological Sciences)2010,53,2:18
Recent research and applications of GPS based technology for bridge health monitoring显示文摘Today,long-span bridges are being designed to be more flexible and to resist extensive impacts from changes in temperature, severe wind gusts and earthquake tremors. 10Structures and antifouling properties of low surface energy non-toxic antifouling coatings modified by nano-SiO_2 powder显示文摘Antifouling coatings are used to improve the speed and energy efficiency of ships by preventing or- ganisms, such as barnacles and weed, building up on the underwater hull and helping the ships movement through the water. Typically, marine coatings are tributyltin self-polishing copolymer paints containing toxic molecules called biocides. They have been the most successful in combating bio- fouling on ships, but their widespread use has caused severe pollution in the marine ecosystem. The low surface energy marine coating is an entirely non-toxic alternative, which reduces the adhesion strength of marine organisms, facilitating their hydrodynamic removal at high speeds. In this paper, the novel low surface energy non-toxic marine antifouling coatings were prepared with modified acrylic resin, nano-SiO2, and other pigments. The effects of nano-SiO2 on the surface structure and elastic modulus of coating films have been studied, and the seawater test has been carried out in the Dalian Bay. The results showed that micro-nano layered structures on the coating films and the lowest surface energy and elastic modulus could be obtained when an appropriate mass ratio of resin, nano-SiO2, and other pigments in coatings approached. The seawater exposure test has shown that the lower the sur- face energy and elastic modulus of coatings are, the less the marine biofouling adheres on the coating films.CHEN MeiLing, QU YuanYuan, YANG Li & GAO Hong Laboratory of Marine Coatings, Dalian Jiaotong University, Dalian 116028, China 2008Science China Chemistry2008,51,9:17

Numerical Wave Channel with Absorbing Wave-Maker显示文摘The numerical wave channel has been developed based on the volume of fluid method (VOF) in conjunction with the Navier-Stokes equations. The absorbing wave-maker boundary on the left side of the channel is presented by prescribing velocity reference to linear wave-maker theory. The principle of which is that the numerical wave-maker is designed to move in a way that generates the required incident wave and cancels out any reflected wave that reach it at the same time. On the right side of the channel, the open boundary is set to permit incident waves to be transmitted freely. The parametric studies have been carried out at a range of ratios of water depth to wave length d/ L from 0.124 to 0.219, with wave height in the front of paddle/water depth ratio (H0 / d) from 0.1 to 0.3. Wave height, wave pressure distribution along the channel and velocity field are obtained for both open boundary condition and reflective boundary condition at the other end of the channel. 13Mechanism of calcium mitigating membrane fouling in submerged membrane bioreactors显示文摘Two parallel membrane bioreactors (MBRs) were operated under different calcium dosages (168.5, 27 mg/L) to gain a better understanding of the mechanism of retarding membrane fouling by adding calcium. The results showed that the particle size of sludge flocs increased and the particle size distribution tended to be narrow at the optimum dosage (168.5 mg/L). Calcium was effective in decreasing loosely bound extracellular polymeric substances (LB-EPS) in microbial flocs and soluble microbial products (SMP) in the supernatant at the dosage of 168.5 mg/L by strengthening the neutralization and bridging of EPS with flocs. Furthermore, the amount of CODS and CODC decreased in both the mixed liquor and the fouling cake layer on the membrane surface. In order to compare the filtration characteristics of cake layers from the MBRs with the two calcium dosages, the specific cake resistance and the compressibility coefficient were measured. The specific cake resistance from the MBR with optimum dosage (168.5 mg/L) was distinctly lower than that with low dosage (27 mg/L). The compressibility coefficient of the cake layers under two dosages were respectively attained as 0.65, 0.91. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and three-dimensional confocal scanning laser microscope analysis (CLSM) images were utilized to observe the gel layer directly.ZHANG Hanmin, XIA Jie, YANG Yang, WANG Zixing, YANG FenglinKey Laboratory of Industrial Ecology and Environmental Engineering, MOE, School of Environmental and Biological Science and Technology, Dalian University of Technology, Dalian 116024, China. 2009Journal of Environmental Sciences2009,21,8:15
Enhancing aerodynamic performances of a high-turning compressor cascade via boundary layer suction显示文摘Experimental investigation was carried out to study the effect of suction positions and suction flow rates on the aerodynamic performance of a compressor cascade with a large camber angle. The ink-trace flow visualization was conducted and the flow fields of the cascade were also measured. Three types of boundary layer suction configurations are compared,i.e. the suction surface suction, the endwall suction and the compound suction. Experimental results show that the large amount of suction flow rate gains more losses reduction than the small amount for a certain proper suction configuration, but the speed of loss decline slows down as the suction flow rate goes on increasing. Boundary layer suction on the suction surface obviously enhances the ability of the boundary layer around the midspan to withstand the negative pressure gradient of the flow passage. The range of the suction surface corner is also decreased. If the suction slot locates in the corner separation region where severe separation has happened, the flow separation will be terminated at the slot and redevelop downstream. And boundary layer suction on the endwall mainly influences the endwall corner region in remarkably delaying, lessening and reorganizing the corner separation. While the whole flow field is remarkably improved at both midspan and the corner region in the compound suction schemes. At higher suction flow rates, the aerodynamic performance of the compressor cascade is better than that with boundary layer suction simply on the suction surface or on the endwall. When the suction flow rate is 1.5% of the inlet mass flow, the compound suction scheme achieves a maximum loss reduction of 17% compared with the cascade without boundary layer suction.GUO Shuang1, CHEN ShaoWen1, LU HuaWei2, SONG YanPing1 & CHEN Fu1 1 School of Energy Science and Engineering, Harbin Institute of Technology, Harbin 150001, China 2 Marine Engineering College, Dalian Maritime University, Dalian 116026, China 2010Science China(Technological Sciences)2010,53,10:14

Effects of Predeformation on the Reverse Martensitic Transformation of TiNi Shape Memory Alloy显示文摘DSC was used to study the effects of predeformation on the reverse martensitic transformation of near-equiatomic TiNi alloy. Both the start temperature A. and the finish temperature Af of the reverse transformation increased with increasing degree of predeformation, but the algebraic difference between A. and Af decreased with increasing predeformation until it reached a minimum value, then remained unchanged with further deformation. Transformation heat also increased with increasing predeformation until it reached a maximum value, then decreased with further predeformation. 19Research on Methods of Ecological Security Assessment of the Middle and Lower Reaches of Liaohe River Based on GIS显示文摘Ecological security assessment and early warning research possess the attributes of spatiality, non-linearity and randomicity, so we must process much spatial information. Spatial analysis and data management are the advantages of GIS, which can define distribution trend and spatial relations of environmental factors, and show ecological security pattern graphically. Spatial differences of ecological security assessment based on GIS are discussed in this paper, of which the middle and lower reaches of the Liaohe River is taken as a study case. First, to work out pressure-state-response (P-S-R) assessment indicators system, and investigate in person and gather information; second, to digitize the watershed; third, to quantize and calculate by the fuzzy method; last, to construct GIS grid database, and expound spatial differences of ecological security by GIS interpolation and assembly analysis.Wang Geng 1,2 , Nie Baochi 3, Wang Lin 1 & Wu Wei 1 1. 20Inter-basin water transfer-supply model and risk analysis with consideration of rainfall forecast information显示文摘This paper develops a new inter-basin water transfer-supply and risk assessment model with consideration of rainfall forecast information. Firstly, based on the current state of reservoir and rainfall forecast information from the global forecast system (GFS), the actual diversion amount can be determined according to the inter-basin water transfer rules with the decision tree method; secondly, the reservoir supply operation system is used to distribute water resource of the inter-basin water transfer reservoir; finally, the integrated risk assessment model is built by selecting the reliability of water transfer, the reliability (water shortage risk), the resiliency and the vulnerability of water supply as risk analysis indexes. The case study shows that the inter-basin water transfer-supply model with rainfall forecast information considered can reduce the comprehensive risk and improve the utilization efficiency of water resource, as compared with conventional and optimal water distribution models.XI ShuFeng1, WANG BenDe1, LIANG GuoHua1, LI XueSen2 & LOU LiLi3 1 School of Civil and Hydraulic Engineering, Dalian University of Technology, Dalian 116024, China 2 Management Bureau of Tanghe Reservoir, Liaoyang 111000, China 3 Institute of Dalian Water Science, Dalian 116013, China 2010Science China(Technological Sciences)2010,53,12:12
