| 1 | Comparison of non-cycloplegic photorefraction,cycloplegic photorefraction and cycloplegic retinoscopy in children显示文摘AIM: To compare the results of noncycloplegic photorefraction, cycloplegic photorefraction and cycloplegic refraction in preschool and non-verbal children.METHODS: One hundred and ninety-six eyes of 98children(50 females, 48 males) were included in the study. Firstly, non-cycloplegic photorefraction was achieved with Plusoptix A09; secondly, cycloplegic photorefraction was carried out with Plusoptix A09 after10 min cyclopentolate. Finally, 30 min after instillation of twice cyclopentolate, cycloplegic refraction was obtained with autorefraction and/or standard retinoscopy. Spheric equivalent, spheric power, cylindric power and cylindrical axis measurements were statistically compared.RESULTS: The mean age was 28.8±18.5mo(range12-72mo). The differences in spherical equivalent, spheric power and cylindrical power measured by the three methods were found statistically significant(P <0.05).The spherical equivalent and spheric power measured by cycloplegic photorefraction were statistically higher than the measurements of the other methods(P <0.05). The cylindrical power measured by cycloplegic refraction was statistically lower than the measurements of the photorefraction methods(P <0.05). There was no significant difference in cylindrical axis measurements between three methods(P >0.05).CONCLUSION: For the determination of refractive errors in children, the Plusoptix A09 measurements give incorrect results after instillation of cyclopentolate.Additionally, the cylindrical power measured by Plusoptix A09 with or without cycloplegia is higher. | 2 | Long-term aspirin pretreatment in the prevention of cerulein-induced acute pancreatitis in rats显示文摘AIM:To investigate the effects of long term pretreatment with low-,medium-and high-dose aspirin(acetylsalicylic acid,ASA) on a model of acute pancreatitis(AP) induced in rats.METHODS:Forty male Wistar rats were used.Three experimental groups,each consisting of eight animals,received low-(5 mg/kg per day),medium-(150 mg/kg per day) and high-dose(350 mg/kg per day) ASA in supplemented pellet chow for 100 d.Eight animals,serving as the AP-control group,and another eight,serving as reference value(RV) group,were fed with standard pellet chow for the same period.After pretreatment,AP was induced in the experimental animals by intraperitoneal administration of cerulein(2 × 50 μg/kg),while the RV group received saline in the same way.Twelve hours after the second injection,the animals were sacrificed.Pancreatic tissue and plasma samples were collected.One part of the collected pancreatic tissues was used for histopathological evaluation,and the remaining portion was homogenized.Cytokine levels [tumor necrosis factor,interleukin(IL)1β,IL-6],hemogram parameters,biochemical parameters(amylase and lipase),nuclear factor-κB,aspirin triggered lipoxins and parameters related to the antioxidant system(malondialdehyde,nitric oxide,hemeoxygenase-1,catalase and superoxide dismutase) were measured.RESULTS:Cerulein administration induced mild pancreatitis,characterized by interstitial edema(total histopathological score of 5.88 ± 0.44vs 0.25 ± 0.16,P < 0.001).Subsequent pancreatic tissue damage resulted in an increase in amylase(2829.71 ± 772.48 vs 984.57 ± 49.22 U/L,P = 0.001) and lipase(110.14 ± 75.84 U/L vs 4.71 ± 0.78 U/L,P < 0.001) in plasma,and leucocytes(6.89 ± 0.48 vs 4.36 ± 0.23,P = 0.001) in peripheral blood.Cytokines,IL-1β(18.81 ± 2.55 pg/μg vs 6.65 ± 0.24 pg/μg,P = 0.002) and IL-6(14.62 ± 1.98 pg/μg vs 9.09 ± 1.36 pg/μg,P = 0.04) in pancreatic tissue also increased.Aspirin pretreatment reduced the increase in the aforementioned parameters to a certain degree and partially improved the histopathological alterations caused by cerulein.No evidence of side effects related to chronic ASA administration(e.g.,inflammation or bleeding) was observed in the gastrointestinal tract in macroscopic and histopathological examination.CONCLUSION:Long term ASA pretreatment could prevent and/or ameliorate certain hematological,serological and histological alterations caused by ceruleininduced AP. | Ibrahim Akyazi Evren Eraslan Ahmet Gülubuk Elif Ergül Ekiz Zeynep L rakli Damla Haktanir Deniz Aktaran Bala Mete zkurt Erdal Matur Mukaddes zcan | 2013 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2013,19,19: | 5 |

| 4 | Biological performance,water absorption,and swelling of wood treated with nano-particles combined with the application of Paraloid B72~显示文摘We evaluated fungal decay and mold resistance,leaching, and water absorption of nano-compounds and Paraloid B72~(PB72) in treated wood specimens to develop new methods of consolidation by combining nanoparticles and consolidants. Scots pine wood specimens were treated with dispersions of nano-Cu O, nano-Zn O,nano-B_2O_3, nano-Ti O_2, and nano-Ce O_2. PB72 treatments of nano-particle-treated wood specimens were then carried out by either vacuum or immersion for 24 h. Previously,decayed wood specimens were also consolidated with the nano-compounds and PB72. PB72 treatments reduced element release from treated wood specimens. Nearly all nano-compounds ? PB72 treatments increased the biological performance of treated wood specimens against decay fungi tested. PB72-only treated wood specimens had the highest weight losses in decay tests. No improvements were obtained in mold resistance tests when the nanocompounds and PB72 were combined. In nano-compoundonly treatments, unleached specimens showed slightly lower water absorption values compared to untreated control specimens. Incorporation of PB72 into nano-compound-treated wood specimens resulted in considerably lower water absorption and volumetric swell. | 5 | Effects of diode laser photocoagulation treatment on ocular biometric parameters in premature infants with retinopathy of prematurity显示文摘AIM:To investigate the effects of diode laser treatment on ocular biometric parameters in premature infants with retinopathy of prematurity(ROP).METHODS:Premature infants who received diode laser treatment for ROP(n=68)and premature infants with spontaneous regressed ROP without treatment(n=50)were performed longitudinal ocular biometric measurements including anterior chamber depth,lens thickness and axial length as follows:1 d prior to laser treatment,and 3,6,9,and 12 mo after the laser treatment.RESULTS:The mean birth weight,gestational age and initial examination time values were 936.53±302.07 g,26.66±2.42 wk,36.26±2.73 wk in the treatment group and 959.78±260.08 g,27.28±2.10 wk,36.56±2.54 wk in the control group.There was no statistically significant difference in these demographic characteristics of the groups.Anterior chamber depth,lens thickness and axial length demonstrated statistically significant linear increases during the study period in the two groups(P<0.001 for each).There were no statistically significant differences between the two groups in terms of anterior chamber depth after laser treatment.Measurements of the lens thickness at 9 th and 12 th months(9 th month 3.70±0.22 vs 3.60±0.21 mm,P=0.017;12 th month 3.81±0.21 vs 3.69±0.22 mm,P=0.002)and the axial length at 12 th month(19.35±0.79 vs 19.13±0.54 mm,P=0.031)after laser treatment were statistically higher in the treatment group.CONCLUSION:Diode laser retinal photocoagulation treatment in premature infants seems to increase the lens thickness and axial length. | Damla Erginturk Acar Ugur Acar Zuhal Ozen Tunay Aysegul Arman Anil Barak | 2021 | International Journal of Ophthalmology(English edition)2021,14,2: | 2 |
