| 1 | Oxygen depletion off the Changjiang (Yangtze River)Estuary显示文摘In a survey on the Yellow Sea and the East China Sea on August 20-30 of 1999, we found a hypoxic zone (<2 mg/L) of 13700 km2 with an average thickness of 20m at the bottom of the Changjiang (Yangtze River) Estuary, with an oxygen minimum value of 1 mg/L. The extension of the dissolved oxygen deficiency extended to the 100m isobath in a southeastward direction along the bottom of the continental shelf of the East China Sea. During the last two decades, the minimum dissolved oxygen values in the low oxygen region of the Changjiang Estuary have decreased from 2.85 mg/L to 1 mg/L. In the hypoxic zone, the apparent oxygen utilization (AOU) was 5.8 mg/L and the total oxygen depletion approximately 1.59×106 t. The strong halocline above the hypoxic zone, as a result of affluent water from the Changjiang, Taiwan Warm Current (TWC), and the high concentrations of particle organic carbon (POC) and nitrogen (PON) are the major factors causing the formation of the hypoxic zone. The earthquake has tremendously affected all industries in the quake-hit areas, with no exception of the local tourism. The study of the effect of the earthquake on tourism enriches the theory of tourism, and more importantly, it well serves as the foundation for policy making. The objective of this study is to outline for readers the empirical findings on the various ways that the earthquake affected the operations and viability of tourism in the quake-hit areas. | 3 | Estimation and prediction of plastic waste annual input into the sea from China显示文摘Marine plastic debris has been a pervasive issue since the last century, and research on its sources and fates plays a vital role in the establishment of mitigation measures. However, data on the quantity of plastic waste that enters the sea on a certain timescale remain largely unavailable in China. Here, we established a model using material flow analysis method based on life cycle assessment to follow plastic product from primary plastic to plastic waste with statistical data and monitoring data from accurate sources. This model can be used to estimate and forecast the annual input of plastic waste into the sea from China until 2020. In 2011, 0.547 3–0.751 5 million tons of plastic waste entered the seas in China, with a growth rate of 4.55% per year until 2017. And the amount will decrease to0.257 1 to 0.353 1 million tons in 2020 under the influence of governmental management. | 6 | Pollution level and human health risk assessment of some pesticides and polychlorinated biphenyls in Nantong of Southeast China显示文摘Food consumption is one of the key exposure routes of humans to contaminants.This article evaluated the residue levels of 51 pesticides and 16 polychlorinated biphenyls(PCBs) in selected fish and food items which were commonly consumed in the Nantong area of Jiangsu Province,Southeast China.The 51 pesticides and 16 PCBs were analyzed by highly sensitive gas chromatographytandem mass spectrometry(GC-MS/MS).The results showed that organochlorine pesticides such as dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethanes(DDTs),hexachlorocyclohexanes(HCHs),hexachlorobenzene(HCB) and mirex and other pesticides including chlorpyrifos,pyrethroid pesticides,metolachlor,pyridaben and trifluralin were frequently detected in the samples,which was consistent with the accumulation level and characteristics of these toxic chemicals in human adipose tissue of people living in Nantong.Meanwhile,correlation of the residue level of toxic chemicals with their physical chemical properties and historic use pattern in Nantong area was observed.Combined with dietary survey results at the same sampling locations,human health risk assessment of ingestion through the dietary route was performed.The results suggested that the non-cancer risks of the chemicals investigated can be considered negligible in the Nantong area,however,the cancer risks from lifetime dietary exposure to DDTs and HCB have exceeded the acceptable levels. | Na Wang Li Yi Lili Shi Deyang Kong Daoji Cai Donghua Wang Zhengjun Shan | 2012 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2012,24,10: | 5 |
| 7 | Soil Evolution Features of Debris Flow Waste-Shoal Land显示文摘The reclamation and utilization of debris flow waste-shoal land plays an important role in the mitigation and control of debris flow hazards, which thus contributes a lot to the exploitation of insufficient land resources in mountainous areas and the reduction of losses caused by debris flow. The aim of this paper is to discuss the features and mechanism of soil evolution of debris flow waste-shoal land so as to search for the available modes of its reclamation and utilization. The Jiangjiagou Ravine, a typical debris flow ravine, was selected to study soil evolution features of debris flow waste-shoal land based on the analysis of soil physicochemical properties and soil microstructure. It was found that the soil evolution rates of debris flow waste-shoal land varied with different modes of reclamation. For the land which had been reclaimed for less than 10 years, soil evolved most rapidly in paddy fields, and more rapidly in dry farmland than in naturally restored waste-shoal land. For the land which had been used for more than 10 years, the soil evolution rates of dry farmland, naturally restored waste-shoal land and paddy farmland decreased in the file. For the same utilization period of time, significant differences were recognized in soil evolution features under different modes of reclamation. Analysis data showed that soil clay content, soil thickness, the psephicity of skeleton particles and contents of microaggregates (<0.02 mm) in paddy farmland were all highest. Soil nutrients and porosity of dry farmland were better than those of paddy farmland and naturally restored waste-shoal land, and those of paddy farmland were superior to those of naturally restored waste-shoal land. | 9 | Flocculation process of fine-grained sediments by the combined effect of salinity and humus in the Changjiang Estuary显示文摘For the great amount of organic compounds and the variation of salinity in the Changjiang Estuary, the study on the flocculation process of fine-grained sediments by the combined effect of salinity and humus in the high-turbid system is of critical significance for the understanding of the mechanism of the formation of the turbidity maximum (TM) .For the great amount of organic compounds and the variation of salinity in the Changjiang Estuary, the study on the flocculation process of fine-grained sediments by the combined effect of salinity and humus in the high-turbid system is of critical significance for the understanding of the mechanism of the formation of the turbidity maximum (TM) .The effects of salinity and humus on the fine-grained sediments have been analyzed through the synthetic study of the aspects of flocculation/coagulation power (F), diameter (D) and zeta potential (Z). And the microcosmic configuration of the flocs has been analyzed by using a scan electron microscope and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrometry. | 10 | Changes in nutrient uptake of phytoplankton under the interaction between sunlight and phosphate in the Changjiang (Yangtze) River Estuary显示文摘We conducted ship-board incubation experiments to investigate changes in nutrient uptake of phytoplankton under different phosphate concentrations and irradiances in the Changjiang River Estuary and its adjacent waters in China. Under 100% natural irradiance the uptake rates of phosphate, silicate, and nitrate were accelerated at high phosphate levels (1.84 μM), while under low irradiance (about 50% natural irradiance) their uptake rates were restrained at the high but stimulated greatly at the intermediate phosphate concentrations (1.26 μM), as the growth of phytoplankton, changes in nitrite and ammonium uptake didn't follow an obvious pattern. Our results also showed that there were linear relationships between nitrate, silicate and phosphate uptake at different phosphate concentrations under low and high irradiances, and the growth period of phytoplankton was prolonged both at the high phosphate concentrations under high irradiance and at the intermediate concentrations under low irradiance, suggesting that the limitation of phytoplankton growth mainly reflected changes in its growth period, and because no such environment (low irradiance and low phosphate concentrations) actually existed in a high turbidity zone, phytoplankton blooms hardly occurred there. | 15 | Impacts of anthropogenic activities on the Changjiang(Yangtze)estuarine ecosystem(1998–2012)显示文摘Estuarine ecosystem has greatly changed in the recent decades due to anthropogenic perturbations in the Changjiang Estuary. Change patterns and impact factors were analyzed based on the continuous data in relation to the Changjiang estuarine ecosystem from 1998 to 2012. The results showed significant decreases in plankton species and annual output of Coilia nasus, Coilia mystus. Furthermore, species and biomass of benthos showed abrupt change in 2003, downward before that and upward after that. It was noted that, Eriocheir sinensis, a high value commercial fish, had an annual production increase of 97%. Reduction of riverine nutrients, especially dissolved silicate(DSI) loads into the estuary could contribute to the decline in Bacillariophyta species. Dredging and dumping works of the North Passage led to the decreases in regional plankton species. | 16 | Duplication and transcriptional divergence of three Kunitz protease inhibitor genes that modulate insect and pathogen defenses in tea plant(Camellia sinensis)显示文摘Kunitz protease inhibitors(KPIs)are ubiquitous in plants and act as crucial compounds in defense responses against insect attack and pathogen infection.However,the influence of gene duplication on the postdivergence of the CsKPI genes involved in biotic stresses in tea plant is not well known.Here,we identified three CsKPI genes from tea plant(Camellia sinensis)and characterized their expression and evolutionary patterns among plant species.We found that CsKPI1,CsKPI2,and CsKPI3 diverged from their common ancestor 72.94 million years ago(MYA),and the tandem duplication of CsKPI2 and CsKPI3 occurred 26.78 MYA.An in vitro protein assay showed that the three CsKPI proteins were functional and inhibited the production of p-nitroanilide(PNA)from an artificial substrate.The three CsKPI-GFP fusion proteins localized to the cytoplasm.We showed that salicylic acid(SA)and transcripts of CsKPI2 and CsKPI3 significantly accumulated after infection with Glomerella cingulata.The application of exogenous SA stimulated the high expression of both CsKPI2 and CsKPI3 by activating cis-elements within their promoters.Under Ectropis oblique attack,CsKPI1 expression and jasmonic acid(JA)levels were more abundant in both insect-damaged leaf tissues and undamaged neighboring leaves.The application of jasmonic acid methyl ester elicited high expression levels of CsKPI1,suggesting that CsKPI1 accumulation requires JA production in tea plant.The overall findings suggest that the transcriptional divergence of KPI genes after duplication led to the specialized role of CsKPI1 in the physiological response to insect stress;the functional conservation between CsKPI2 and CsKPI3 confers resistance to pathogen infection in tea plant. | Junyan Zhu Yaxian He Xiaomei Yan Lu Liu Rui Guo Xiaobo Xia Daojie Cheng Xiaozeng Mi Lidiia Samarina Shenrui Liu Enhua Xia Chaoling Wei | 2019 | Horticulture Research2019,6,1: | 2 |
