| 1 | Distribution of sand dunes and sand shifts along the southern fringe of the Mu Us Desert since the Ming Dynasty显示文摘This article takes the two segments of the Ming Great Walls,Dabian and Erbian,and their associated barracks and forts as geographical references. Based on a detailed scrutiny of historical records of the Ming and Qing dynasties,and on field surveys,the southern boundaries of the sand dunes and sand shifts of the Mu Us Desert in the Ming and Qing dynasties are carefully reconstructed. A comparison of the southern boundaries of the sand dunes and sand shifts of the Mu Us Desert in Ming and Qing with the modern boundary revealed in remote sensing imagery clearly shows that the southern boundary of dunes and shifts in the Mu us Desert has expanded only in a few areas and on a small scale. In the area to the south of Changle Fort,along the direction of annually prevailing winds,sand drifts have pene-trated through the Jialu River valley into the loess region and have formed a sand strip of 32 km long and 3 km wide. To the east of Qingping Fort,sand drifts penetrated toward the eastern loess region through the Luhe River valley and have formed another sand strip of 8 km long and 2 km wide. Gener-ally speaking,though the intensity of human activity has been increasing in this area since the Ming Dynasty,the Mu Us Desert has not significantly expanded toward the southeast or southwest. | 5 | A summary of seismic activities in and around China in 2021显示文摘In this article,we review the general characteristics of seismicity in and around China and the overall statistics of earthquake damage in 2021,focusing on several significant events and related scientific topics.Among them,the largest event is the M_(S)7.4 Madoi earthquake in Qinghai Province,northwest China.The event marks another M_(S)≥7 earthquake occurring near the boundary of the Bayan Har Block that has ended a remarkable quiescence of the M_(S)≥7 earthquakes within the Chinese mainland.In addition,the M_(S)6.4 Yangbi earthquake in Yunnan Province,southwest China draws the most attention because of its abundant foreshocks,which are well recorded by the densely distributed seismic stations in the surrounding regions.Regarding this event,we review several recent publications focusing on the Gutenberg-Richter b-value change and the physical mechanism of foreshocks associated with this sequence.The M_(S)6.0 Luxian earthquake in Sichuan Province,southwest China has caused serious damage with a relatively low magnitude,partly because the focal depth of the mainshock is relatively shallow (3.5 km).It is another strong earthquake occurring within the southeast Sichuan basin with low historical seismicity yet has increased significantly since 2015,probably due to shale gas development and associated hydraulic fracturing. | Yanyan Han Yang Zang Lingyuan Meng Yue Wang Shiguang Deng Yawei Ma Mengyu Xie | 2022 | Earthquake Research Advances2022,2,3: | 0 |

| 7 | Component regulation in novel La-Co-O-C composite catalyst for boosted redox reactions and enhanced thermal stability in methane combustion显示文摘A novel La-Co-O-C (LC-C) composites were prepared via a facile co-hydrothermal route with oxides and glycerol and further optimized for methane catalytic activity and thermal stability via component regulation.It was demonstrated that Co3O_(4)phase was the main component in regulation.The combined results of X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS),temperature-programmed desorption of oxygen (O_(2)-TPD),temperature-programmed reduction of hydrogen (H_(2)-TPR),temperature-programmed desorption of ammonia/carbon dioxide (NH_(3)/CO_(2)-TPD) revealed that component regulation led to more oxygen vacancies and exposure of surface Co_(2)+,lower surface basicity and optimized acidity,which were beneficial for adsorption of active oxygen species and activation of methane molecules,resulting in the excellent catalytic oxidation performance.Especially,the (3.5)LC-C (3.5 is Co-to-La molar ratio) showed the optimum activity and the T50and T90(the temperature at which the CH_(4)conversion rate was 50%and 90%,respectively) were 318 and 367℃,respectively.Using theoretical calculations and in situ diffuse reflection infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy characterization,it was also found that the catalytic mechanism changes from the “Rideal-Eley” mechanism to the “Two-term” mechanism depending on the temperature windows in which the reaction takes place.Besides,the use of the “Flynn-Wall-Ozawa” model in thermoanalytical kinetics revealed that component regulation simultaneously optimized the decomposition activation energy,further expanding the application scope of carboncontaining composites. | Peiqi Chu Saifei Wang Yi Zhang Shiguang Zhao Yahan Wang Jiguang Deng Erhong Duan | 2023 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2023,,4: | 0 |
