| 4 | Mobile Sensing in the COVID-19 Era:A Review显示文摘Background. During the COVID-19 pandemic, mobile sensing and data analytics techniques have demonstrated their capabilitiesin monitoring the trajectories of the pandemic, by collecting behavioral, physiological, and mobility data on individual,neighborhood, city, and national scales. Notably, mobile sensing has become a promising way to detect individuals’ infectiousstatus, track the change in long-term health, trace the epidemics in communities, and monitor the evolution of viruses andsubspecies. Methods. We followed the PRISMA practice and reviewed 60 eligible papers on mobile sensing for monitoringCOVID-19. We proposed a taxonomy system to summarize literature by the time duration and population scale under mobilesensing studies. Results. We found that existing literature can be naturally grouped in four clusters, including remote detection,long-term tracking, contact tracing, and epidemiological study. We summarized each group and analyzed representative workswith regard to the system design, health outcomes, and limitations on techniques and societal factors. We further discussed theimplications and future directions of mobile sensing in communicable diseases from the perspectives of technology andapplications. Conclusion. Mobile sensing techniques are effective, efficient, and flexible to surveil COVID-19 in scales of timeand populations. | 5 | Additive Manufacturing:Incremental Improvements to a Disruptive Technology显示文摘Additive Manufacturing(AM)is disruptive and complex not only in its nature but also in what it can make.Humans have always had difficulty absorbing complexity and disruption due to our skeptical nature and need to simplify.AM being a 3-dimensional solution is simply an example of how AM is disruptive because people are adept at thinking in two dimensions.For a technology as transformative as AM to progress,some assumptions have to be made and certain approximations have to be asserted and held to be true until they can be revisited later.When we weigh the societal benefit that AM can and will bring,efficiency comes to the forefront.It could be efficiency of energy use,efficiency of materials utilization,or efficiency in designs that are lighter and then use less energy.No matter what form efficiency takes,it impacts society.To achieve a greater impact,AM must become more pervasive,and for it to become more pervasive,it must become more productive.The additional source of complexity in AM is the sheer number of process variables,such as feedstock,energy source,part geometry,and postprocessing,with more than 100 identified,1 not including the interrelationships between these variables.While similar numbers are present in other manufacturing processes,such as forging and casting,civilization has had between 200 and 5000 years to understand the variables in these processes,which is longer than society wants to wait in the case of AM. | John E.Barnes Kevin Slattery | 2021 | Accounts of Materials Research2021,2,8: | 0 |
| 6 | Retention of fin clips and fin and operculum punch marks in rainbow trout显示文摘Fin clips(complete fin removal)or punch marks(stamping of a hole)in fins or operculum are quick and inexpensive methods to identify individuals or groups of fish.This study evaluated the retention of 6 mm diameter punch marks on the operculum,caudal(upper and lower lobes),dorsal,pelvic,and anal fins,and fin clips on adipose,pectoral,pelvic,dorsal and anal fins of rainbow trout Oncorhynchus mykiss for 279 days.Growth and survival were not significantly different among fish with the different mark types or locations.At the end of the experiment,100%of adipose clips,97%of pectoral and anal fin clips,and 93%of dorsal clips and pelvic fin clips were retained.Retention of punch marks was 57%and 50%for the lower and upper caudal fin lobe locations respectively,23%for the dorsal fin,and 3%for the operculum.No pelvic or anal fin punch marks were identified at the end of the trial.Significant differences in retention among the treatment groups did not occur until 125 days post marking,after which all fin clip treatments had significantly greater retention than pelvic and dorsal punch marks.Beyond 244 days,fin clips outperformed all punch mark locations. | Alex J.Rosburg Jacob L.Davis Michael E.Barnes | 2022 | Aquaculture and Fisheries2022,7,6: | 0 |

| 8 | A comparison of cyanoacrylate to sutures for wound closure following acoustic transmitter insertion in rainbow trout显示文摘Tag retention,wound healing,wound closure,and tagged fish survival are critically important after surgical implantation of acoustic transmitters in fish.This study compared the use of sutures to cyanoacrylate adhesives and bandages for post-surgery wound closure.Adult rainbow trout Oncorhynchus mykiss were assigned to one of seven treatments:a control group where fish were only handled,two suture groups(tagged with dummy acoustic transmitters or non-tagged),and four cyanoacrylate adhesive groups(non-tagged,tagged with adipose fin applied as a biological bandage,tagged with anal fin applied,and non-tagged with water-proof bandage).Tag retention was significantly improved in adhesive with anal fin(89%)and tagged suture(78%)treatments when compared to only 11%tag retention in the adhesive with adipose fin treatment.Wound redness severity increased over the 14 weeks of the study in the tagged and sutured fish,and in those receiving the waterproof bandage.Wound redness severity was also significantly higher in the waterproof bandage and tagged and sutured treatments than both tagged adhesive treatments at the end of the study.Wound gape was significantly more severe in the adhesive with adipose treatment than in the control,suture,tagged suture,and adhesive treatments,but no significant differences were observed between the adhesive with adipose treatment and the adhesive with anal fin or bandage treatments.Wound gape never completely closed in the adhesive with adipose group,while both the tagged suture treatment and tagged adhesive with anal treatment wounds completely closed between four-and six-weeks post-surgery.The results of this study indicate that cyanoacrylate adhesive used in conjunction with anal fin tissue is a suitable post-surgical treatment. | Jeremy Kientz Nathan Huysman Michael E.Barnes | 2021 | Aquaculture and Fisheries2021,6,5: | 0 |
