1Potential habitat modeling for reintroduction of three native plant species in central Iran显示文摘Potential habitat modeling of endemic species is an appropriate method to maintain biodiversity, ecosystem function and rehabilitation of rangeland ecosystems.Astragalus caragana,A.cyclophyllon and A.podolobus are endemic in Iran's rangelands and some neighboring countries. The three native species could endure environmental stresses due to their distinctive ecophysiological characteristics. They play important roles in sustainable pastures production, recreation and improvement. They suffer severe threat from many factors including;grazing, agriculture and invasive exotic species. We analyzed the potential habitat of three native plant species in central Iran basing on the grid map with the resolution of 1-km.We used inventory records from field surveys, herbarium collections and 22 environmental factors to explore the environmental influences on given species distribution by Maximum entropy(Maxent) model.Maxent is a species distribution model that uses species occurrence and environmental data for predicting potential species. The results of our study indicated species occurrence has strong correlation with environmental factors such as mean temperature of wettest season, elevation and precipitation of coldest season. We evaluated the model accuracy by AUC(area under the receiver operating characteristic curve) based on an independent test data set.AUC values indicated the high power of Maxent to create potential habitat map(AUCA.caragana=0.988,AUCA.cyclophyllon=0.927,AUCA.podolobus=0.923).It is important to consider that AUC values tend to be lower for species that have broad distribution scope, such as A.podolobus distribution. Most suitable potential habitat distributions of the three species were predicted in the western and southwestern parts of rangelands in Isfahan province.Visual comparisons of the actual distribution map of the three species with produced Maxent maps represent a good agreement. In general, the model demonstrated that the occurrence of the given species is highly probable when the elevation is between 2,200 and 3,000 m and mean temperature of wettest season less than 3°C.This model, therefore, can be applied to recognize potential sites for rangeland reclamation projects.Elham G ARDESTANI Mostafa TARKESH Mehdi BASSIRI Mohammad R VAHABI 2015Journal of Arid Land2015,7,3:5
2MicroRNAs and JAK/STAT3 signaling:A new promising therapeutic axis in blood cancers显示文摘Blood disorders include a wide spectrum of blood-associated malignancies resulting from inherited or acquired defects. The ineffectiveness of existing therapies against blood disorders arises from different reasons, one of which is drug resistance,so different types of leukemia may show different responses to treatment.Leukemia occurs for a variety of genetic and acquired reasons, leading to uncontrolled proliferation in one or more cell lines.Regarding the genetic defects, oncogene signal transducer and activator of transcription(STAT)family transcription factor, especially STAT3,play an essential role in hematological disorders onset and progress upon mutations, dysfunction,or hyperactivity.Besides, microRNAs,as biological molecules, has been shown to play a dual role in either tumorigenesis and tumor suppression in various cancers.Besides,a strong association between STAT3 and miRNA has been reported. For example,miRNAs can regulate STAT3 via targeting its upstream mediators such as IL6,IL9,and JAKs or directly binding to the STAT3 gene.On the other hand,STAT3 can regulate miRNAs.In this review study,we aimed to determine the role of either microRNAs and STAT3 along with their effect on one another's activity and function in hematological malignancies.Mehdi Sajjadi-Dokht Talar Ahmad Merza Mohamad Heshu Sulaiman Rahman Marwah Suliman Maashi Svetlana Danshina Navid Shomali Saeed Solali Faroogh Marofi Elham Zeinalzadeh Morteza Akbari Ali Adili Ramin Aslaminabad Majid Farshdousti Hagh Mostafa Jarahian 2022Genes & Diseases2022,9,4:2
3Inverse Gas Chromatography Used to Study Lubricating Oil Oxidation Mechanism via Changes in Kovats and Flory-Huggins Retention Parameters显示文摘Inverse gas chromatographic technique(IGC) was attempted as a new approach to follow the chem-ical changes that occur during lubricating base oil oxidation.Three groups of the oxidized base oils were pre-pared at different oxygen flow rates, periods and temperatures according to IP48method.The corrected reten-tion volumes(VR) were calculated for a series of selected test solutes possessing different functional groups onthe oxidized base oils used as stationary phases.Kovats retention index(I),Flory-Huggins interaction parame-ter(κ1∞,2),and partial molar free energy of solution(ΔGL∞),were calculated for the given test solutes fromtheirVR.The relationships between theIvalues and the oxidation variables were plotted and discussed.Theobtained results were confirmed by potentiometric titration. The study reveals that the magnitudes of variationofI,κ1∞,2orΔG∞Lretention parameters depend on the oxidation degree of the base oil.Large differences be-tween theIvalues permit discrimination between the different oxidation steps.Key words: inverse gas chromatography(IGC);oxidation;lubricating base oil;Kovats retentionMOSTAFA Nagy E EISSA Elham A 2006色谱2006,24,3:2
4Safety and efficacy of Hansenula-derived PEGylated-interferon alpha-2a and ribavirin combination in chronic hepatitis C Egyptian children显示文摘AIM:To investigate the safety and efficacy of a Hansenula-derived PEGylated(polyethylene glycol)interferon(IFN)-alpha-2a(Reiferon Retard)plus ribavirin customized regimen in treatment-na?ve and previously treated(non-responders and relapsers)Egyptian children with chronic hepatitis C infection.METHODS:Forty-six children with chronic hepatitis C virus(HCV)infection were selected from three tertiary pediatric hepatology centers.Clinical and laboratory evaluations were undertaken.Quantitative polymerase chain reaction(PCR)for HCV-RNA was performed before starting treatment, and again at 4,12,24,48,72wk during treatment and 6 mo after treatment cessation. All patients were assigned to receive a weekly subcutaneous injection of PEG-IFN-alpha-2a plus daily oral ribavirin for 12 wk.Thirty-four patients were treatment-na?ve and 12 had a previous treatment trial.Patients were then divided according to PCR results into two groups.GroupⅠincluded patients who continued treatment on a weekly basis(7-d schedule),while groupⅡincluded patients who continued treatment on a 5-d schedule.Patients from either group who were PCR-negative at week 48,but had at least one PCRpositive test during therapy, were assigned to have an extended treatment course up to 72 wk.The occurrence of adverse effects was assessed during treatment and follow up.The study was registered at www.ClinicalTrials.gov(NCT02027493).RESULTS:Only 11 out of 46(23.9%)patients showed a sustained virological response(SVR),two patients were responders at the end of treatment;however, they were lost to follow up at 6 mo post treatment.Breakthrough was seen in 18(39.1%)patients,one patient(2.17%)showed relapse and 14(30.4%)were non-responders.Male gender, short duration of infection, low viral load, mild activity, and mild fibrosis were the factors related to a better response. On the other hand, patients with high viral load and absence of fibrosis failed to respond to treatment. Before treatment, liver transaminases were elevated. After commencing treatment, they were normalized in all patients at week 4 and were maintained normal in responders till the end of treatment, while they increased again significantly in non-responders(P=0.007 and 0.003 at week 24 and 72 respectively). The 5-d schedule did not affect the response rate(1/17 had SVR).Treatment duration(whether 48 wk or extended course to 72 wk)gave similar response rates(9/36 vs 2/8 respectively;P=0.49).Type of previous treatment(short acting IFN vs PEG-IFN)did not affect the response to retreatment. On the other hand,SVR was significantly higher in previous relapsers than in previous non-responders(P=0.039).Only mild reversible adverse effects were observed and children tolerated the treatment well.CONCLUSION:Reiferon Retard plus ribavirin combined therapy was safe. Our customized regimen did not influence SVR rates.Further trials on larger numbers of patients are warranted.Suzan El Naghi Tawhida Y Abdel-Ghaffar Hanaa El-Karaksy Elham F Abdel-Aty Mona S El-Raziky Aleef A Allam Heba Helmy Hanaa A El-Araby Behairy E Behairy Mohamed A El-Guindi Hatem El-Sebaie Aisha Y Abdel-Ghaffar Nermin A Ehsan Ahmed M El-Hennawy Mostafa M Sira 2014World Journal of Gastroenterology2014,20,16:2
