Genetic Analysis and Gene Mapping of Light Brown Spotted Leaf Mutant in Rice显示文摘A light brown spotted-leaf mutant of rice was isolated from an ethane methyl sulfonate (EMS)- induced IR64 mutant bank. The mutant, designated as lbsl1 (light brown spotted-leaf 1), displayed light brown spot in the whole growth period from the first leaf to the flag leaf under natural summer field conditions. Agronomic traits including plant height, growth duration, number of filled grains per panicle, seed-setting rate and 1000-grain weight of the mutant were significantly affected. Genetic analysis showed that the mutation was controlled by a single recessive gene, tentatively named lbsl1(t), which was mapped to the short arm of chromosome 6. By developing simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers, the gene was finally delimited to an interval of 130 kb between markers RM586 and RM588. The lbsl1(t) gene is likely a novel rice spotted-leaf gene since no other similar genes have been identified near the chromosomal region. The genetic data and recombination populations provided will facilitate further fine-mapping and cloning of the gene. | FENG Bao-hua YANG Yang SHI Yong-feng LIN Lu CHEN Jie WEI Yan-lin Hei LEUNG WU Jian-li | 2013 | Rice science2013,20,1: | 3

Climate change filtered out resource-acquisitive plants in a temperate grassland in Inner Mongolia,China显示文摘Global climate change has led to the decline of species and functional diversity in ecosystems, changing community composition and ecosystem functions. However,we still know little about how species with different resource-use strategies(different types of resource usage and plant growth of plants as indicated by the spectrum of plant economic traits, including acquisitive resource-use strategy and conservative resource-use strategy)would change in response to climate change, and how the changes in the diversity of species with different resource-use strategies may influence community-level productivity. Here, using long-term(1982–2017)observatory data in a temperate grassland in Inner Mongolia,we investigated how climate change had affected the species richness(SR)and functional richness(FRic)for the whole community and for species with different resource-use strategies.Specifically, based on data for four traits representing leaf economics spectrum(leaf carbon concentration, leaf nitrogen concentration, leaf phosphorus concentration, and specific leaf area),we divided 81 plant species appearing in the grassland community into three plant functional types representing resource-acquisitive,medium,and resource-conservative species. We then analyzed the changes in community-level productivity in response to the decline of SR and FRic at the community level and for different resource-use strategies. We found that community-level SR and FRic decreased with drying climate, which was largely driven by the decline of diversity for resource-acquisitive species.However,community-level productivity remained stable because resource-conservative species dominating this grassland were barely affected by climate change. Our study revealed distinctive responses of species with different resource-use strategies to climate change and provided a new approach based on species functional traits for predicting the magnitude and direction of climate change effects on ecosystem functions. | Heying Jing Xingshuo Xiong Feng Jiang Xucai Pu Wenhong Ma Daijiang Li Zhongling Liu Zhiheng Wang | 2024 | Science China(Life Sciences)2024,67,2: | 0
Natural frequency for exponential shaped thermoacoustic resonator显示文摘The two-dimensional nonlinear acoustic field of eleven exponential shaped resonators was simulated with a computational fluid dynamics software Fluent. The influence of driving frequency and driving intensity on pressure in resonator as well as its natural frequency was investigated. The relationship between natural frequency and theoretical calculation resonance frequency was also explored. It is found that beating phenomena can be observed in the resonator when the driving frequency deviates from the natural frequency. Moreover, the natural frequency of resonator increases with the increasing of driving intensity, which shows a hard spring effect. However, the driving intensity plays little effect on natural frequency and the natural frequencies are smaller than the theoretical calculation values in any driving intensity.Meanwhile,a formula between the natural frequency and its first-order resonance frequency from theoretical calculation was obtained by linear fitting for all these exponential shaped resonators under consideration. It is also found that the highest pressure amplitude and highest pressure ratio can be obtained from the exponential shaped resonator of m=2.8 under the same driving intensity. Moreover, the relation between natural frequency and the theoretical resonance frequency for m=2.8-tube is slightly different from other tubes in consideration. | FENG Heying PENG Yehui JIANG Lingli LI Xuejun | 2017 | Chinese Journal of Acoustics2017,36,3: | 0
Pharmacological efficacy of the traditional Chinese medicinal formula Kun-Tai-1A in the treatment of letrozole-induced polycystic ovary syndrome显示文摘Background:Polycystic ovary syndrome(PCOS)is an endocrine disorder that occurs in women of child-bearing age. Moreover,PCOS patients have decreased pregnancy rates and clomiphene citrate resistance. The traditional Chinese medicine formula Kun-Tai-1S(KT1S),consisting of the seahorse species hippocampus, has been reported to elicit therapeutic effects in patients with PCOS.However, given the limited resources and global demand for wild hippocampus, whether KT1S with or without hippocampus can elicit similar therapeutic effects has not been confirmed.Methods:KT1S and Kun-Tai-1A(KT1A,KT1S without dry hippocampus)were used to treat a letrozole-induced rat model of PCOS with an established disease. The serum levels of testosterone, luteinizing hormone,anti-Müllerian hormone, and estradiol were determined, the luteinizing hormone/follicle-stimulating hormone ratio was determined, and the ovarian pathology was evaluated. Results:Similar to the therapeutic effects of cyproterone acetate, both the KT1S and KT1A treatments reduced the body weight and ovarian and uterine indices in the rats with PCOS.The serum levels of testosterone,anti-Müllerian hormone, and luteinizing hormone and the luteinizing hormone/follicle-stimulating hormone ratio were significantly lower in the KT1S and KT1A treatment groups compared to the model group(P<0.01 and P<0.05,respectively).Moreover,the histopathological assessment results suggested that both the KT1S and KT1A treatments significantly ameliorated the PCOS pathology in the rats with an established disease, with a reduced number of cystic and atretic follicles and an increased number of corpora lutea being observed in the ovaries.Notably, there was no obvious difference in the disease outcomes between the KT1S and KT1A-treated groups.Network pharmacology analysis revealed that 4’,7-dihydroxyflavanone,sinpemine A,quercetin,8-isopentenyl-kaempferol,and luteolin in KT1A may promote estrogen signaling;furthermore, the nitric oxide regulation pathway is also closely involved.Conclusion:KT1A and KT1S treatments both significantly ameliorated the PCOS-related pathology in rats, suggesting that the hippocampus component is dispensable for KT1S-mediated amelioration.Given the limited resources and global demand for wild hippocampus for use in complementary medicines, our findings may help conserve this species.Together, our results suggest that KT1A is a promising approach for treating PCOS. | Leanne Lee Leung Jing Xie Ya-Cun Chen Kar-Ho Lam Hei Wan Su-Lan Yu Tzi-Bun Ng George Pak-Heng Leung Jin Yu Ren-Min Yao Shu-Jia Sun Sydney Chi-Wai Tang Hai-Yong Chen Jia Zhao Zhang-Jin Zhang Calvin Kai-Fai Lee Kalin Yan-Bo Zhang Li-Xing Lao Yun Feng Xiang Lin Wei Meng | 2022 | Traditional Medicine Research2022,7,3: | 0

Disseminated hydatid disease in the orbit and central nervous system显示文摘Dear Editor,We are writing to present a rare case of disseminated hydatid disease(HD)in the orbit and central nervous system(CNS)leading to visual dysfunction, and an improved surgical technique. This rare case demonstrates intracranial multiple hydatid cysts encroaching and penetrating the orbital wall leading to orbital hydatid cyst.Surgically reducing the cyst volume may be an excellent option to avoid rupture of orbital hydatid cyst. | Ming-Shen Ma Fan Su Yan Hei Mei-Yan Feng Xin-Ji Yang | 2021 | International Journal of Ophthalmology(English edition)2021,14,9: | 0
