1Enhanced Resistance of Snowdrop Lectin (Galanthus nivalis L. agglutinin) Expressing Maize to Asian Corn Borer (Ostriniafurnacalis Guenée)显示文摘In order to enhance the resistance to pests, transgenic maize (Zea mays L.) plants from elite inbred lines containing the gene encoding snowdrop lectin (Galanthus nivalis L. agglutinin; GNA) under control of a phloem-specific promoter were generated through the Agrobacterium tumefaciens-mediated also studied. Thirty-six independently derived plants were subjected to molecular analyses. The level of GNA expression at 0.13%-0.28% of total soluble protein was observed in different transgenic plants. The progeny of three GNA-expressing independent transformants that were derived separately from the elite inbred lines DH4866, DH9942, and 8902, were selected for examination of resistance to ACB. These plants synthesized GNA at levels above 0.24% total soluble protein and enhanced resistance to ACB was demonstrated by exposing the plants to insects under greenhouse conditions. Semi-artificial diet bioassays also showed the toxic effect of GNA on ACB. Field evaluation of the transgenic plants supported the results from the artificial trial. In the present study, we have obtained new insect-resistant maize material for further breeding work and have found that GNA-expressing plants not only gained significant resistance to homopterans, but also showed toxicity to ACB, which is a type of Lepidoptera.Zhao-YuWANG Xiao-FenSUN FeiWANG Ke-XuanTANG Ju-RenZHANG 2005Journal of Integrative Plant Biology2005,47,7:3

8Simultaneous removal of Pb and MTBE by mixed zeolites in fixed-bed column tests显示文摘The co-contamination of metals and organic pollutants,such as Pb and methyl tert-butyl ether(MTBE),in groundwater,has become a common and major phenomenon in many contaminated sites.This study evaluated the feasibility of their simultaneous removal with permeable reactive barrier(PRB)packed with mixed zeolites(clinoptilolite and ZSM-5)using fixed-bed column tests and breakthrough curve modeling.The effect of grain size on the permeability of PRB and removal efficacy was also assessed by granular and power clinoptilolite.The replacement of granular clinoptilolite by powder clinoptilolite largely reduced the breakthrough time but increased the saturation time nearly fourfold.The column adsorption capacity of clinoptilolite powders almost tripled that of clinoptilolite granules(130.6mg/g versus 45.3 mg/g)due to higher specific surface areas.The minimum thickness and corresponding longevity of PRB were calculated as 7.12 cm and 321.5 min when 5%of granular clinoptilolite was mixed with 5%ZSM-5 and 90%sand as mixed PRB reactive media compared with 10.86 cm and 1230.2 min for the application of powder clinoptilolite.This study is expected to provide theoretical support and guidance for the practical application of mixed adsorbents in PRBs.Yunhui Zhang FeiWang Benyi Cao Hailong Yin Abir Al-Tabbaa 2022Journal of Environmental Sciences2022,34,12:0
9TROVE2 regulated invasion and migration of hepatocellular carcinoma cells via heparanase显示文摘Background:The role of TROVE domain family member 2(TROVE2)has been well-demonstrated in autoimmune diseases;however,its involvement in liver cancer remains unclear.Therefore,this study aimed to explore the biological function and clinical significance of TROVE2 in hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC).Methods:The expression level of TROVE2 was analyzed in HCC and paired adjacent tissue samples using real-time reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction.The impact of TROVE2 on migration and invasion in HCC cells was analyzed through Transwell assays and Western blotting.High-throughput transcriptome sequencing and bioinformatics analyses were performed to identify downstream target genes.Back-complementation experiments were employed to verify the influence of downstream proteins on TROVE2-induced invasion and migration of HCC cells.Results:TROVE2 exhibited significant overexpression in liver cancer tissue,correlating with shorter overall survival.Overexpression of TROVE2 facilitated the invasion,metastasis,and epithelial-mesenchymal transition(EMT)process of HCC cells,whereas TROVE2 knockdown restrained migration,invasion,and EMT in these cells.Transcriptome sequencing and bioinformatics analysis identified heparanase(HPSE)as a downstreamtarget protein of TROVE2.Subsequent back-complementation experiments provided evidence that HPSE overexpression promoted TROVE2-mediated prometastasis effects.Moreover,the study revealed that TROVE2 was capable of regulating the EMT pathway through GSK-3βphosphorylation.Conclusions:TROVE2 facilitated the invasion,migration,and EMT process ofHCC cells through phosphorylation of the HPSE/GSK-3βaxis,indicating its significance as an important protein in tumor progression.Niangmei Cheng Xiaoyuan Zheng Jingyun Huang FeiWang Yang Wang Yue Zhong Yingchao Wang Gaoxiong Wang Bixing Zhao 2024Oncology and Translational Medicine2024,10,2:0
10Semantic and Structural Analysis of TV Diving Programs显示文摘Automatic content analysis of sports videos is a valuable and challenging task. Motivated by analogies between a class of sports videos and languages, the authors propose a novel approach for sports video analysis based on compiler principles. It integrates both semantic analysis and syntactic analysis to automatically create an index and a table of contents for a sports video. Each shot of the video sequence is first annotated and indexed with semantic labels through detection of events using domain knowledge. A grammar-based parser is then constructed to identify the tree structure of the video content based on the labels. Meanwhile, the grammar can be used to detect and recover errors during the analysis. As a case study, a sports video parsing system is presented in the particular domain of diving.
