Magnetically treated water irrigation effect on turnip seed germination, seedling growth and enzymatic activities显示文摘Pre-sowing magnetic field seed treatment effects on biological characteristics of vegetables and crops have been studied well. However, studies reporting irrigation with magnetically treated water are scanty. Therefore, the effect of irrigation with magnetically treated water on turnip seed germination, seedling growth and enzymatic activities was evaluated. The tap water was treated at 211 mT for 30,45 and 60 min and used for irrigation of turnip seed and seedlings.Uniform and healthy turnip seed was sown under randomized complete block design(RCBD).The germination, emergence rate index, vigor index I and vigor index II increased up to 28.33%,11.54%,57.59%and 32.26%,respectively.The growth parameters such as seedling lengths, fresh&dry weights, chlorophyll content were also enhanced in response of irrigation with magnetically treated water. The seedlings irrigated with magnetically treated water showed 28.92%,11.36%and 14.76%higher protein content, alpha amylase and protease activities, respectively vs control. Results revealed that irrigation with magnetically treated water has potential to improve turnip germination, seedling growth and enzymatic activities and this study is also extendable to other vegetables and crops for the improvement of germination and growth. | Zia ul Haq Munawar Iqbal Yasir Jamil Hafeez Anwar Ayesha Younis Muhammad Arif M.Zeshan Fareed Fida Hussain | 2016 | Information Processing in Agriculture2016,3,2: | 5
Effect of gravistimulation on amino acid profile of pea, rice, corn, wheat during early growth stages显示文摘The amino acids are one of the major cellular components of plants, which are involved in different metabolic pathways. In present study, effect of artificial gravistimulation on amino acid profiles of pea, rice, corn, wheat during early growth stages was investigated.One-axis clinostat was used for gravistimulation application, which was applied at embryonic stage.Amino acid profile was measured in 10-days old seedlings of pea, rice, corn and wheat cultivars. The effect of clinostat rotation was also evaluated under salt stress and MS medium supplement.Germinated pea, rice, corn and wheat seedlings were grown under the gravity condition for specific time interval.Corn and wheat seeds showed slowgermination as compared to pea and rice cultivars. The rate of amino acid formation under gravity condition was significantly higher than control(un-treated seedling). The variation in amino acid profile of pea, rice, corn and wheat cultivars vary deferentially. Results revealed that gravistimulation applied through clinostat has positive effect on amino acid profile in plant tissue and future studies should be focused on growth, biochemical, physiological at lateral stages of growth. | Raghad S.Mouhamad Munawar Iqbal MAfzal Qamar Lamiaa A.Mutlag Ibrahim B.Razaq Mazhar Abbas Fida Hussain | 2016 | Information Processing in Agriculture2016,3,4: | 2
Total phenolic, chromium contents and antioxidant activity of raw and processed sugars显示文摘Processing improves the visual quality of food;however, the ingredient and nutritional values may alter. In present study, the sugar samples(refined,raw,gur(Jaggery/jaggeree)and molasses)were collected from 20 different agro-climatic regions of Pakistan and analyzed for the chromium concentration, total phenolic and antioxidant activity,in order to evaluate the processing effect. The concentration of Cr was determined by digestion method using atomic absorption spectrophotometer, while antioxidant activity was determined by DPPH(1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl)and reducing power. It was observed that chromium content in Jaggery was 74%higher than raw sugar, while molasses showed 21.27%higher concentration versus jaggery. The total phenolic contents were found considerably higher in molasses(3751 lg GAE/g)followed by Jaggery(3285 lg GAE/g),raw sugar(27.75 lg GAE/g)and refined sugar(23.81 lg GAE/g).The DPPH scavenging activity and reducing power was also found dependent to sugar type.Form results,it can be concluded that processing significantly affected the chromium contents, total phenolics and antioxidant activity. | Munawar Iqbal MAfzal Qamar Tanveer H.Bokhari Mazhar Abbas Fida Hussain Nasir Masood Ali Keshavarzi Naseem Qureshih Arif Nazir | 2017 | Information Processing in Agriculture2017,4,1: | 2
Multi-material Bio-inspired Soft Octopus Robot for Underwater Synchronous Swimming显示文摘Inspired by the simple yet amazing morphology of the Octopus, we propose the design, fabrication, and characterization of multi-material bio-inspired soft Octopus robot (Octobot). 3D printed molds for tentacles and head were used. The tentacles of the Octobot were casted using Ecoflex-0030 while head was fabricated using relatively flexible material, i.e., OOMOO-25. The head is attached to the functionally responsive tentacles (each tentacle is of 79.12 mm length and 7 void space diameter), whereas Shape Memory Alloy (SMA) muscle wires of 0.5 mm thickness are used in Octobot tentacles for dual thrust generation and actuation of Octobot. The tentacles were separated in two groups and were synchronously actuated. Each tentacle of the developed Octobot contains a pair of SMA muscles (SMA-α and SMA-β). SMA-α muscles being the main actuator, was powered by 9 V, 350 mA power supply, whereas SMA-β was used to provide back thrust and thus helps to increase the actuation frequency. Simulation work of the proposed model was performed in the SolidWorks environment to verify the vertical velocity using the octopus tentacle actuation. The design morphology of Octobot was optimized using simulation and TRACKER software by analyzing the experimental data of angle, displacement, and velocity of real octopus. The as-developed Octobot can swim at variable frequencies (0.5–2 Hz) with the average speed of 25 mm/s (0.5 BLS). Therefore, the proposed soft Octopus robot showed an excellent capability of mimicking the gait pattern of its natural counterpart. | Faheem Ahmed Muhammad Waqas Bushra Shaikh Umair Khan Afaque Manzoor Soomro Suresh Kumar Hina Ashraf Fida Hussain Memon Kyung Hyun Choi | 2022 | Journal of Bionic Engineering2022,19,5: | 1
Model predictive control system based on direct yaw moment control for 4WID self-steering agriculture vehicle显示文摘A model predictive control(MPC)approach based on direct yaw moment control(DYC)was proposed to realize the self-steering drive for a newly autonomous four-wheel independent-drive(4WID)agricultural electric vehicle. The front axle and rear axle of the vehicle chassis could rotate simultaneously around their respective center points and cut the turning radius in half at most through specific mechanical chassis structure design and four-wheel electrical drive. It had great potential to reduce wheel traffic damage to field crops if two rear electrical drive wheels can be controlled to follow wheel tracks of two front wheels during self-steering operation. Therefore, firstly,a two-degree-freedom dynamics model presenting this agricultural electric vehicle was constructed. Then,an MPC controller combined with DYC was applied to arrange torques from four wheels to match desired turning angles, direct yaw moments and travel speeds. The simulation results existed small steady error of steering angles below 0.22%as they were set at 5°,followed with yaw moment under 0.17%and velocity less than 1%.Finally,according to experiment results, the vehicle successfully made a working turning radius of 9.1 m with maximum error of 0.55%when desired steering angles were 5°at the speed of 1 m/s and a minimum turning radius of 1.51 m with maximum error of 6.6%when steering angles were 30°at the speed of 0.5 m/s.It verified that the 4WID agricultural electric vehicle could drive autonomously and steady with small self-steering angle error under the proposed control system and has a feasibility to reduce wheel traffic damage during driving and operation. | Hui Liu Shicheng Yan Yue Shen Chiheng Li Yafei Zhang Fida Hussain | 2021 | International Journal of Agricultural and Biological Engineering2021,14,2: | 1
Leveraging UAV-assisted communications to improve secrecy for URLLC in 6G systems显示文摘Unmanned Aerial Vehicles(UAVs)will be essential to support mission-critical applications of Ultra Reliable Low Latency Communication(URLLC)in futuristic Sixth-Generation(6G)networks.However,several security vulnerabilities and attacks have plagued previous generations of communication systems;thus, physical layer security, especially against eavesdroppers,is vital, especially for upcoming 6G networks. In this regard,UAVs have appeared as a winning candidate to mitigate security risks. In this paper,we leverage UAVs to propose two methods. The first method utilizes a UAV as Decode-and-Forward(DF)relay,whereas the second method utilizes a UAV as a jammer to mitigate eavesdropping attacks for URLLC between transmitter and receiver devices. Moreover,we present a low-complexity algorithm that outlines the two aforementioned methods of mitigating interception,i.e.increasing secrecy rate, and we compare them with the benchmark null method in which there is a direct communication link between transmitter and receiver without the UAV DF relay.Additionally, simulation results show the effectiveness of such methods by improving the secrecy rate and its dependency on UAV height, blocklength, decoding error probability and transmitter-receiver separation distance.Lastly,we recommend the best method to enhance the secrecy rate in the presence of an eavesdropper based on our simulations. | Hemant Kumar Narsani Ali Ranjha Kapal Dev Fida Hussain Memon Nawab Muhammad Faseeh Qureshi | 2023 | Digital Communications and Networks2023,9,6: | 0
Machine learning-enabled MIMO-FBMC communication channel parameter estimation in IIoT: A distributed CS approach显示文摘Compressed Sensing(CS)is a Machine Learning(ML)method, which can be regarded as a single-layer unsupervised learning method. It mainly emphasizes the sparsity of the model. In this paper,we study an ML-based CS Channel Estimation(CE)method for wireless communications, which plays an important role in Industrial Internet of Things(IIoT)applications. For the sparse correlation between channels in Multiple Input Multiple Output Filter Bank MultiCarrier with Offset Quadrature Amplitude Modulation(MIMO-FBMC/OQAM)systems,a Distributed Compressed Sensing(DCS)-based CE approach is studied.A distributed sparse adaptive weak selection threshold method is proposed for CE.Firstly, the correlation between MIMO channels is utilized to represent a joint sparse model, and CE is transformed into a joint sparse signal reconstruction problem. Then, the number of correlation atoms for inner product operation is optimized by weak selection threshold, and sparse signal reconstruction is realized by sparse adaptation. The experiment results show that the proposed DCS-based method not only estimates the multipath channel components accurately but also achieves higher CE performance than classical Orthogonal Matching Pursuit(OMP)method and other traditional DCS methods in the time-frequency dual selective channels. | Han Wang Fida Hussain Memon Xianpeng Wang Xingwang Li Ning Zhao Kapal Dev | 2023 | Digital Communications and Networks2023,9,2: | 0
Support Vector Machine Based Handwritten Hindi Character Recognition and Summarization显示文摘In today’s digital era,the text may be in form of images. This research aims to deal with the problem by recognizing such text and utilizing the support vector machine(SVM).A lot of work has been done on the English language for handwritten character recognition but very less work on the under-resourced Hindi language.A method is developed for identifying Hindi language characters that use morphology, edge detection, histograms of oriented gradients(HOG),and SVM classes for summary creation.SVM rank employs the summary to extract essential phrases based on paragraph position, phrase position, numerical data, inverted comma, sentence length, and keywords features. The primary goal of the SVM optimization function is to reduce the number of features by eliminating unnecessary and redundant features. The second goal is to maintain or improve the classification system’s performance. The experiment included news articles from various genres, such as Bollywood, politics, and sports. The proposed method’s accuracy for Hindi character recognition is 96.97%,which is good compared with baseline approaches, and system-generated summaries are compared to human summaries. The evaluated results show a precision of 72%at a compression ratio of 50%and a precision of 60%at a compression ratio of 25%,in comparison to state-of-the-art methods, this is a decent result. | Sunil Dhankhar Mukesh Kumar Gupta Fida Hussain Memon Surbhi Bhatia Pankaj Dadheech Arwa Mashat | 2022 | Computer Systems Science & Engineering2022,43,10: | 0
Comparison of Sick and Hokuyo UTM-30LX laser sensors in canopy detection for variable-rate sprayer显示文摘Accurate acquisition of canopy structures, sizes and shapes of plants are significant in providing technical data for variable-rate precision spraying and plant growth estimation in modern agriculture. This research work proposes a comparative analysis of two mainstream brands of laser sensor scanners for canopy detection.A Hokuyo UTM-30LX laser sensor and a Sick LMS151-10100 laser sensor was used to detect spray targets including two artificial trees and a cuboid foam box, respectively. Two data acquisition and storage algorithms based on C++ language have been developed to collect real-time data from the given targets based on the sensors.A 3-dimentional image reconstruction algorithm was proposed to construct the detection targets using MATLAB software. In this experiment, the detection distances between laser sensors and targets range from 1.8 to 2.2 m,and the traveling speed of laser sensors ranges from 0.5 to 2.0 m/s,and the size of trees 2.15×1.24×0.70m^3 have been taken for verification of proposed method. The detection accuracies of both laser sensors have been compared by utilizing the given targets under indoor laboratory conditions, and detection accuracies of 3-dimentional reconstruction images of the target are analyzed by the root-mean-square error(RMSE),the coefficient of variation(CV)and edge similarity score(ESS).The experimental results show that the laser sensors have different detection accuracies under the same experimental conditions, and has different detection accuracy under different experimental conditions. The LMS151-10100 laser sensor is more accurate and more suitable for detection in the case of fast detection speed. However, both sensors have the capability to measure the targets accurately and can be applied for the detection of trees in the area of variable-rate precision spraying. | Hui Liu Bin Gao Yue Shen Fida Hussain Destaw Addis Cheng Kai Pan | 2018 | Information Processing in Agriculture2018,5,4: | 0
Ambient BackCom in beyond 5G NOMA networks: A multi-cell resource allocation framework显示文摘The research of Non-Orthogonal Multiple Access (NOMA) is extensively used to improve the capacity of networks beyond the fifth-generation. The recent merger of NOMA with ambient Backscatter Communication (BackCom), though opening new possibilities for massive connectivity, poses several challenges in dense wireless networks. One such challenge is the performance degradation of ambient BackCom in multi-cell NOMA networks under the effect of inter-cell interference. Driven by providing an efficient solution to the issue, this article proposes a new resource allocation framework that uses a duality theory approach. Specifically, the sum rate of the multi-cell network with backscatter tags and NOMA user equipment is maximized by formulating a joint optimization problem. To find the efficient base station transmit power and backscatter reflection coefficient in each cell, the original problem is first divided into two subproblems, and then the closed form solution is derived. A comparison with the Orthogonal Multiple Access (OMA) ambient BackCom and pure NOMA transmission has been provided. Simulation results of the proposed NOMA ambient BackCom indicate a significant improvement over the OMA ambient BackCom and pure NOMA in terms of sum-rate gains. | Wali Ullah Khan Fida Hussain Memon Kapal Dev Muhammad Awais Javed Dinh-Thuan Do Nawab Muhammad Faseeh Qureshi | 2022 | Digital Communications and Networks2022,8,6: | 0
Bioinspired Multi-material Polyjet-printed Frog Robot for Synchronous and Asynchronous Swimming显示文摘This paper proposes the bioinspired soft frog robot. All printing technology was used for the fabrication of the robot. Polyjet printing was used to print the front and back limbs, while ultrathin filament was used to print the body of the robot, which makes it a complete soft swimming robot. Dual thrust generation approach has been proposed by embedding the main muscle and antagonistic muscle in all the limbs, which enables it to attain high speed (18 mm/s), significant control to swim in dual mode (synchronous and asynchronous modes). To achieve the swimming motion of frog, four SMA (BMF 300) muscle wires were used. The frog robot is named as (FROBOT). The hind limbs are 60 mm long and 10 mm thick on average, while the front limbs are 35 mm long and 7 mm thick. Model-based design and rigorous analysis of the dynamics of real frogs have allowed FROBOT to be developed to swim at a level that is remarkably consistent with real frogs. Electrical and mechanical characteristics have been performed. In addition, the test data were further processed using TRACKER to analyze angle, displacement and velocity. FROBOT (weighs 65 g) can swim at different controllable frequencies (0.5–2 Hz), can rotate in any direction on command from custom built LabVIEW software allowing it to swim with speed up to 18 mm/s on deep water surface (100 cm) with excellent weight balance. | Afaque Manzoor Soomro Jae-Wook Lee Fida Hussain Memon Faheem Ahmed Kashif Hussain Kyung Hyun Choi | 2023 | Journal of Bionic Engineering2023,20,3: | 0
