| 3 | Current molecular methods for the detection of hepatitis C virus in high risk group population:A systematic review显示文摘Hepatitis C virus(HCV) is an emerging infection worldwide and the numbers of persons infected are increasing every year. Poor blood transfusion methods along with unsafe injection practices are potential sources for the rapid spread of infection. Early detection of HCV is the need of the hour especially in high riskgroup population as these individuals are severely immunocompromised. Enzyme Immunoassays are the most common detection techniques but they provide no evidence of active viremia or identification of infected individuals in the antibody-negative phase and their efficacy is limited in individuals within high risk group population. Molecular virological techniques have an important role in detecting active infection with utmost specificity and sensitivity. Technologies for assessment of HCV antibody and RNA levels have improved remarkably, as well as our understanding of how to best use these tests in patient management. This review aims to give an overview of the different serological and molecular methods employed in detecting HCV infection used nowadays. | 4 | Variational Mode Decomposition for Rotating Machinery Condition Monitoring Using Vibration Signals显示文摘The failure of rotating machinery applications has major time and cost effects on the industry.Condition monitoring helps to ensure safe operation and also avoids losses.The signal processing method is essential for ensuring both the efficiency and accuracy of the monitoring process.Variational mode decomposition(VMD)is a signal processing method which decomposes a non-stationary signal into sets of variational mode functions(VMFs)adaptively and non-recursively.The VMD method offers improved performance for the condition monitoring of rotating machinery applications.However,determining an accurate number of modes for the VMD method is still considered an open research problem.Therefore,a selection method for determining the number of modes for VMD is proposed by taking advantage of the similarities in concept between the original signal and VMF.Simulated signal and online gearbox vibration signals have been used to validate the performance of the proposed method.The statistical parameters of the signals are extracted from the original signals,VMFs and intrinsic mode functions(IMFs)and have been fed into machine learning algorithms to validate the performance of the VMD method.The results show that the features extracted from VMD are both superior and accurate for the monitoring of rotating machinery.Hence the proposed method offers a new approach for the condition monitoring of rotating machinery applications. | Muhd Firdaus Isham Muhd Salman Leong Meng Hee Lim Zair Asrar Ahmad | 2018 | Transactions of Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics2018,35,1: | 3 |
| 5 | Antioxidant and cytotoxic activity of Acanthus ilicifolius flower显示文摘Objective:To investigate the antioxidant and cytotoxic activity of the flower of Acanthus ilicifolius(A.ilicifolius).Methods:Antioxidant activity was determined as antiradical efficiency with diphenyl picrylhydrazil(DPPH)method and cytotoxic assay was undertaken using brine shrimp lethal toxicity test.Results:A.ilicifolius flower contained terpenoid,phenolic compounds,and alkaloid.The methanol extract of A.ilicifolius flower showed the highest antiradical efficiency(AE=1.41×10^(-3))against DPPH radicals and the highest cytotoxicity(LC_(50)=22μg/mL)against brine shrimp nauplii.Conclusions:It is suggested that active compounds of A.ilicifolius flower solved in methanol play a role to inhibit free radical activity and kill Artemia salina nauplii.The substances can be considered as potential antioxidant and cytotoxic agents as well as imminent candidate for cancer therapy. | Muhamad Firdaus Asep Awaludin Prihanto Rahmi Nurdiani | 2013 | Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2013,3,1: | 3 |
| 6 | SARS-CoV-2 spike protein binds to bacterial lipopolysaccharide and boosts proinflammatory activity显示文摘There is a link between high lipopolysaccharide(LPS)levels in the blood and the metabolic syndrome,and metabolic syndrome predisposes patients to severe COVID-19.Here,we define an interaction between SARS-CoV-2 spike(S)protein and LPS,leading to aggravated inflammation in vitro and in vivo.Native gel electrophoresis demonstrated that SARS-CoV-2 S protein binds to LPS.Microscale thermophoresis yielded a of〜47 nM for the interaction.Computational modeling and all-atom molecular dynamics simulations further substantiated the experimental results,identifying a main LPS-binding site in SARS-CoV-2 S protein.S protein,when combined with low levels of LPS,boosted nuclear factor-kappa B(NF-k B)activation in monocytic THP-1 cells and cytokine responses in human blood and peripheral blood mononuclear cells,respectively.The in vitro inflammatory response was further validated by employing NF-kB reporter mice and in vivo bioimaging.Dynamic light scattering,transmission electron microscopy,and LPS-FITC analyses demonstrated that S protein modulated the aggregation state of LPS,providing a molecular explanation for the observed boosting effect.Taken together,our results provide an interesting molecular link between excessive inflammation during infection with SARS-CoV-2 and comorbidities involving increased levels of bacterial endotoxins. | Ganna Petruk Manoj Puthia Jitka Petrlova Firdaus Samsudin Ann-Charlotte Stromdahl Samuel Cerps Lena Uller Sven Kjellstrom Peter J.Bond Artur Schmidtchen | 2020 | Journal of Molecular Cell Biology2020,12,12: | 3 |
| 7 | Flapping wing micro-aerial-vehicle: Kinematics, membranes, and flapping mechanisms of ornithopter and insect flight显示文摘The application of biomimetics in the development of unmanned-aerial-vehicles(UAV)has advanced to an exceptionally small scale of nano-aerial-vehicles(NAV), which has surpassed its immediate predecessor of micro-aerial-vehicles(MAV), leaving a vast range of development possibilities that MAVs have to offer. Because of the prompt advancement into the NAV research development, the true potential and challenges presented by MAV development were never solved,understood, and truly uncovered, especially under the influence of transition and low Reynolds number flow characteristics. This paper reviews a part of previous MAV research developments which are deemed important of notification; kinematics, membranes, and flapping mechanisms ranges from small birds to big insects, which resides within the transition and low Reynolds number regimes. This paper also reviews the possibility of applying a piezoelectric transmission used to produce NAV flapping wing motion and mounted on a MAV, replacing the conventional motorized flapping wing transmission. Findings suggest that limited work has been done for MAVs matching these criteria.
