Numerical description of coalbed methane desorption stages based on isothermal adsorption experiment显示文摘Quantitative description of desorption stages of coalbed methane is an important basis to objectively understand the production of coalbed methane well,to diagnose the production state, and to optimize the management of draining and collection of coalbed methane.A series of isothermal adsorption experiments were carried out with 12 anthracite samples from 6 coalbed methane wells located in the south of the Qinshui Basin, based on the results of isothermal adsorption experiments, and an analytical model was developed based on the Langmuir sorption theory. With the model,a numerical method that adopts equivalent desorption rate and its curve was established, which can be used to characterize the staged desorption of coalbed methane.According to the experimental and numerical characterizations, three key pressure points determined by the equivalent desorption rate curvature that defines pressure-declining desorption stage, have been proposed and confirmed,namely,start-up pressure, transition pressure and sensitive pressure.By using these three key pressure points, the process of coalbed methane desorption associated with isothermal adsorption experiments can be divided into four stages,i.e.,zero desorption stage, slow desorption stage, transition desorption stage, and sensitive desorption stage.According to analogy analysis, there are differences and similarities between the processes of coalbed methane desorption identified by isothermal adsorption experiments and observed in gas production. Moreover,it has been found that larger Langmuir volume and ratio of Langmuir constants are beneficial to earlier advent of steady production stage, whereas it is also possible that the declining production stage may occur ahead of schedule.ZHANG Zheng QIN Yong Geoff X WANG FU XueHai 2013Science China Earth Sciences2013,56,6:25
Fractal classification and natural classification of coal pore structure based on migration of coal bed methane显示文摘According to the data of 146 coal samples measured by mercury penetration, coal pores are classified into two levels of <65 nm diffusion pore and >65 nm seeping pore by fractal method based on the characteristics of diffusion, seepage of coal bed methane(CBM) and on the research results of specific pore volume and pore structure. The diffusion pores are further divided into three categories: <8 nm micropore, 8-20 nm transitional pore, and 20-65 nm mini-pore based on the relationship between increment of specific surface area and diameter of pores, while seepage pores are further divided into three categories: 65-325 nm mesopore, 325-1000 nm transitional pore, and >1000 nm macropore based on the abrupt change in the increment of specific pore volume.Xuehai Fu Yong Qin Wanhong Zhang Chongtao Wei Rongfu Zhou 2005Chinese Science Bulletin2005,50,S1:16
Stratum energy of coal-bed gas reservoir and their control on the coal-bed gas reservoir formation显示文摘Stratum energy of coal-bed gas reservoir, including coal-radix flexibility energy, groundwater flexibility energy and gas flexibility energy (hereinafter 'three energy'), depends on the energy homeostasis system, the core process of which is the effective transfer of energy and the geological selective process. Combining with the mechanics experimentations of coal samples, different flexibility energy has been analyzed and researched quantificationally, and a profound discussion to their controls on the coal-bed gas reservoir formation has been made. It is shown that when gas reservoir is surrounded by edge water and bottom water, the deposited energy in the early phase of forming gas reservoir is mostly coal-radix and gas flexibility energy, but the effect of groundwater flexibility energy increases while water-body increases. The deposited energy in the middle and later phase of forming gas reser voir is mostly gas flexibility energy, which is greater than 80% of all deposited energy. In the whole process, larger groundwater body exerts greater influences on gas accumulation. The paper indicated that higher stratum energy is more propitious to forming coal-bed gas reservoir. And higher coal-radix flexibility energy and gas flexibility energy are more propitious to higher yield of gas reservoirs, while higher groundwater flexibility energy is more propitious to stable yield of gas reservoirs. Therefore, the key to evaluating the coal-bed gas reservoir formation is the stratum energy of coal-bed gas reservoir.WU CaiFang QIN Yong FU XueHai 2007Science China Earth Sciences2007,50,9:9
Multi-Layer Superposed Coalbed Methane System in Southern Qinshui Basin, Shanxi Province, China显示文摘Multi-coalbed developed in Carboniferous–Permian coal-bearing strata of southern Qinshui Basin, and different coal-bearing segments have different coalbed methane(CBM) reservoiring characteristics. Analysis of previous studies suggests that the essence of an unattached CBM system is to possess a unified fluid pressure system, which includes four key elements, namely, gas-bearing coal-rock mass, formation fluid, independent hydrodynamic system and capping layer condition. Based on the exploration and exploitation data of CBM, it is discovered that the gas content of coal seams in southern Qinshui Basin presents a change rule of non-monotonic function with the seam dipping, and a turning point of the change appears nearby coal seam No. 9, and coal seams of the upper and the lower belong to different CBM systems respectively; well test reservoir pressure shows that the gradient of coal seam No. 15 of the Taiyuan Formation is significantly higher than that of coal seam No. 3 of the Shanxi Formation; the equivalent reservoir pressure gradient of coal seam No. 15 'jumps' obviously compared with the reservoir pressure gradient of coal seam No. 3 in the same vertical well, that is, the relation between reservoir pressure and burial depth takes on a characteristic of nonlinearity; meanwhile, the vertical hydraulic connection among the aquifers of Shanxi Formation and Taiyuan Formation is weak, constituting several relatively independent fluid pressure systems. The characteristics discussed above reveal that the main coal seams of southern Qinshui Basin respectively belong to relatively independent CBM systems, the formation of which are jointly controlled by sedimentary, hydrogeological and structural conditions.Zheng Zhang Yong Qin Xuehai Fu Zhaobiao Yang Chen Guo 2015Journal of Earth Science2015,26,3:9
Self-adjusted elastic action and its CBM pool-forming effect of the high rank coal reservoir显示文摘The coal reservoir is a kind of geologic body with considerable elasticity, and its response to stress is more sensitive than the routine ones. In the pool-forming process of the coalbed methane, (CBM) the action of many external geodynamic factors in the coal reservoir is represented by the ability of CBM’s diffusion and migration in the coal reservoir. Therefore, the occurrence of the natural fissures in the coal reservoir becomes a key that determines whether the CBM pool can be formed or not. Based on the principle, the authors have designed a comprehensive method of physical modeling to study the elasticity of the coal matrix block with different coal ranks in the light of the solid to fluid coupling, have established the model of the volume deformation (self-adjusted elastic effect) of the coal reservoir under the condition of the effective stress-adsorption/desorption, and have obtained a correct understanding of the law of the elastic deformation. Afterwards, a new viewpoint, named as the self-closing elastic effect for forming the CBM pool in the high rank reservoir, is put forward, providing an initial point and a scientific basis for a further investigation into its dynamic factors, possible mechanism and role in the CBM energy-balancing system.QIN Yong FU Xuehai WU Caifang FU Guoyou BU Yingying 2005Chinese Science Bulletin2005,50,S1:9
Comprehensive analysis of CBM recovery in high rank coal reservoir of Jincheng area显示文摘Coalbed methane (CBM) predicting recovery in high rank coal reservoir varies greatly in Jincheng area and it seriously influences efficient and economic exploitation of CBM resource. In order to predict more accurate CBM recovery, we conducted history matching and productivity prediction of vertical well by using COMET 3 reservoir modeling software, innovatively adopted the gas desorption experiment of bulk coal at fixed test pressure, analyzed the recovery extent method of Daning multiple-hole horizontal well and Panzhuang well group, and calculated recovery by sorption isotherm method of 14 vertical CBM wells at the abandonment pressures 1.0, 0.7, 0.5 and 0.3 MPa, respectively. The results show that the reservoir simulation methods (numerical simulation method and the recovery extent method) is more reliable than the theoretical analysis of coal sample (sorption isotherm method and desorption experiment method). Also, desorption experiment method at fixed pressure is superior to sorption isotherm method. Through the comprehensive analysis and linear correction, CBM recovery ratios in high rank coal reservoir of Jincheng area were found to be 38.64%, 49.30%, 59.30%, and 69.20% at the abandonment pressures 1.0, 0.7, 0.5 and 0.3 MPa, respectively. The research results are of significant importance in the CBM exploration and development in Jincheng area.Liu Aihua Fu Xuehai Luo Bin Luo Peipei Jiao Chunlin 2013International Journal of Mining Science and Technology2013,23,3:6
Mechanical criterion for coal and gas outburst:a perspective from multiphysics coupling显示文摘Although a series of hypotheses have been proposed, the mechanism underlying coal and gas outburst remains unclear.Given the low-index outbursts encountered in mining practice,we attempt to explore this mechanism using a multiphysics coupling model considering the effects of coal strength and gas mass transfer on failure.Based on force analysis of coal ahead of the heading face,a risk identification index C_(m)and a critical criterion(C_(m)≥1)of coal instability are proposed.According to this criterion, the driving force of an outburst consists of stress and gas pressure gradients along the heading direction of the roadway, whereas resistance depends on the shear and tensile strengths of the coal. The results show that outburst risk decreases slightly, followed by a rapid increase, with increasing vertical stress, whereas it decreases with increasing coal strength and increases with gas pressure monotonically.Using the response surface method,a coupled multi-factor model for the risk identification index is developed. The results indicate strong interactions among the controlling factors. Moreover, the critical values of the factors corresponding to outburst change depending on the environment of the coal seams, rather than being constants. As the buried depth of a coal seam increases, the critical values of gas pressure and coal strength decrease slightly, followed by a rapid increase.According to its controlling factors, outburst can be divided into stress-dominated,coal-strength-dominated,gas-pressure-dominated,and multi-factor compound types.Based on this classification,a classified control method is proposed to enable more targeted outburst prevention.Ting Liu Baiquan Lin Xuehai Fu Ang Liu 2021International Journal of Coal Science & Technology2021,8,6:5
Research into comprehensive gas extraction technology of single coal seams with low permeability in the Jiaozuo coal mining area显示文摘For a low permeability single coal seam prone to gas outbursts,pre-drainage of gas is difficult and inefficient, seriously restricting the safety and efficiency of production.Radical measures of increasing gas extraction efficiency are pressure relief and infrared antirefiection. We have analyzed the effect of mining conditions and the regularity of mine pressure distribution in front of the working face of a major coal mine of the Jiaozuo Industrial(Group) Co.as our test area, studied the width of the depressurization zone in slice mining and analyzed gas efficiency and fast drainage in the advanced stress relaxation zone.On that basis,we further investigated and practiced the exploitation technology of shallow drilling, fan drilling and grid shape drilling at the working face.Practice and our results show that the stress relaxation zone is the ideal region for quick and efflcient extraction of gas.By means of an integrated extraction technology, the amount of gas emitted into the zone was greatly reduced, while the risk of dangerous outbursts of coal and gas was lowered markedly. This exploration provides a new way to control for gas in working faces of coal mines with low permeability and risk of gas outbursts of single coal seams in the Jiaozuo mining area.Fu Jiangwei Fu Xuehai Hu Xiao Chen Li Ou Jianchun 2011Mining Science and Technology2011,21,4:5
Estimation of correction coefficients for measured coal bed methane contents显示文摘Improving the accuracy and precision of coal bed methane(CBM) estimates requires correction of older data from older coal exploration surveys to newer standards.Three methods, the depth gradient method, the contour aerial weight method, and the well-point aerial weight method, were used to estimate the correction coefficient required to predict CBM gas content from coal exploration data. The data from the Nos.3 and 15 coal seams provided the coal exploration data while the CBM exploration stages within the X1 well block located in the southern part of the Qinshui Basin provided the data obtained using newer standards. The results show the correction coefficients obtained from the two aerial weight methods are similar in value but lower than the one obtained from the depth gradient method. The three methods provide similar results for the Nos.3 and 15 seams in that the correction factor is lower for the former seam. The results from the depth gradient method taken together with the coal seam burial depth and the coal rank suggest that variations in the correction factor increase linearly along with coal seam burial depth and coal rank. The correlation obtained can be applied to exploration and the evaluation of coal bed gas resources located in coalfields.Lei Bo Fu Xuehai Zhou Baoyan Shen Jia ZOU Mingjun Feng Qing 2012International Journal of Mining Science and Technology2012,22,4:5
Effect of an electrostatic field on gas adsorption and diffusion in tectonic coal显示文摘The characteristics of adsorption, desorption, and diffusion of gas in tectonic coal are important for the prediction of coal and gas outbursts. Three types of coal samples, of which both metamorphic grade and degree of damage is different, were selected from Tongchun, Qilin, and Pingdingshan mines. Using a series of experiments in an electrostatic field, we analyzed the characteristics of gas adsorption and diffusion in tectonic coal. We found that gas adsorption in coal conforms to the Langmuir equation in an electrostatic field. Both the depth of the adsorption potential well and the coal molecular electronegativity increases under the action of an electrostatic field. A Joule heating effect was caused by changing the coal–gas system conductivity in an electrostatic field. The quantity of gas adsorbed and DP result from competition between the depth of the adsorption potential well, the coal molecular electronegativity, and the Joule heating effect. DP peaks when the three factors control behavior equally. Compared with anthracite, the impact of the electrostatic field on the gas diffusion capacity of middle and high rank coals is greater. Compared with the original coal, the gas adsorption quantity, DP, and the gas diffusion capacity of tectonic coal are greater in an electrostatic field. In addition, the smaller the particle size of tectonic coal, the larger the DP.Jian Kuo Lei Dongji Fu Xuehai Zhang Yugui Li Hengle 2015International Journal of Mining Science and Technology2015,25,4:4

Application of structural curvature of coalbed floor on CBM development in the Zaoyuan block of the southern Qinshui Basin显示文摘Based on controls of structural style and the position in coalbed methane (CBM) development, we used a method of curvatures to study its relations with CBM development parameters. We calculated structural curvatures of contours of the No.3 coal seam floor of the Shanxi Formation in the Zaoyuan block of the Qinshui Basin and analyzed its relations with development parameters of coalbed methane wells. The results show that structural curvature is negatively related to coal reservoir pressure, while positively related to permeability. With an increase in structural curvature, the average production of coalbed methane wells increases at first and then decreases, reaching the highest production at 0.02 m–1 of structural curvature. Therefore, structural cur-vature can be an important index for potential evaluation of coalbed methane development and provide a basis for siting coalbed methane wells.SHEN Jian 2010Mining Science and Technology2010,20,6:2

Pore size distribution of high volatile bituminous coal of the southern Junggar Basin: a full-scale characterization applying multiple methods显示文摘Studying on the pore size distribution of coal is vital for determining reasonable coalbed methane development strategies. The coalbed methane project is in progress in the southern Junggar Basin of northwestern China, where high volatile bituminous coal is reserved. In this study, with the purpose of accurately characterizing the full-scale pore size distribution of the high volatile bituminous coal of the southern Junggar Basin, two grouped coal samples were applied for mercury intrusion porosimetry,low-temperature nitrogen adsorption,low-field nuclear magnetic resonance,rate-controlled mercury penetration, scanning electron microscopy, and nano-CT measurements.A comprehensive pore size distribution was proposed by combining the corrected mercury intrusion porosimetry data and low-temperature nitrogen adsorption data. The relationship between transverse relaxation time(T2,ms)and the pore diameter was determined by comparing the T2 spectrum with the comprehensive pore size distribution. The macro-pore and throat size distributions derived from nano-CT and rate-controlled mercury penetration were distinguishingly analyzed. The results showed that:1)comprehensive pore size distribution analysis can be regarded as an accurate method to characterize the pore size distribution of high volatile bituminous coal;2)for the high volatile bituminous coal of the southern Junggar Basin, the meso-pore volume was the greatest, followed by the transition pore volume or macro-pore volume, and the micro-pore volume was the lowest;3)the relationship between T2 and the pore diameter varied for different samples, even for samples with close maturities;4)the throat size distribution derived from nano-CT was close to that derived from rate-controlled mercury penetration, while the macro-pore size distributions derived from those two methods were very different. This work can deepen the knowledge of the pore size distribution characterization techniques of coal and provide new insight for accurate pore size distribution characterization of high volatile bituminous coal.Wanchun ZHAO Xin LI Tingting WANG Xuehai FU 2021Frontiers of Earth Science2021,15,2:1
