1Effect of SF6 on Ozone Generation Using Dielectric Barrier Discharge显示文摘The influence mechanism of a small amount of SF6 on ozone generation in oxygen or air discharge is investigated. Some results are obtained by probing into the number of the high-energy electrons, which have the sufficiency energy for generating ozone.Introducing a small amount of SF6 into oxygen sharply decreases the number of high-energy electrons, because the electron density decreases sharply while the mean electron energy remains constant due to higher breakdown voltage and lower discharge power, and some high-energy electrons are consumed by the excitation and attachment of SF6.In contrast, when a small amount of SF6 is added into dry air discharge, despite the consumption of the excitation and attachment of SF6,the number of high energy electrons increases sharply, which is attributed to the higher mean electron energy and electron density resulted from higher breakdown voltage and discharge power. When the volume fraction of SF6 increases from 0 to 2.22%,the ozone mass concentration and the ozone yield increase by 45.7% and 29.7%,respectively.Therefore,though the oxygen source should avoid the presence of SF6,adding a small amount of SF6 can improve the ozone mass concentration and the efficiency of ozone generation.WEI Linsheng DONG Guopan ZHANG Yafang YUAN Dingkun HU Zhaoji FU Chunyi 2013高电压技术2013,39,10:2

4Anti-Parkinsonian Therapy:Strategies for Crossing the Blood–Brain Barrier and Nano-Biological Effects of Nanomaterials显示文摘Parkinson’s disease(PD),a neurodegenerative disease that shows a high incidence in older individuals,is becoming increasingly prevalent.Unfortunately, there is no clinical cure for PD,and novel anti-PD drugs are therefore urgently required. However, the selective permeability of the blood–brain barrier(BBB)poses a huge challenge in the development of such drugs.Fortunately, through strategies based on the physiological characteristics of the BBB and other modifications, including enhancement of BBB permeability, nanotechnology can offer a solution to this problem and facilitate drug delivery across the BBB.Although nanomaterials are often used as carriers for PD treatment, their biological activity is ignored.Several studies in recent years have shown that nanomaterials can improve PD symptoms via their own nano-bio effects. In this review,we first summarize the physiological features of the BBB and then discuss the design of appropriate brain-targeted delivery nanoplatforms for PD treatment.Subsequently,we highlight the emerging strategies for crossing the BBB and the development of novel nanomaterials with anti-PD nano-biological effects. Finally,we discuss the current challenges in nanomaterial-based PD treatment and the future trends in this field. Our review emphasizes the clinical value of nanotechnology in PD treatment based on recent patents and could guide researchers working in this area in the future.Guowang Cheng Yujing Liu Rui Ma Guopan Cheng Yucheng Guan Xiaojia Chen Zhenfeng Wu Tongkai Chen 2022Nano-Micro Letters2022,14,6:1
5Large-brained birds lay smaller but heavier clutches显示文摘The brain is among the most energetically costly organs in vertebrates, and thus trade-offs have been hypothesized to exert constraints on brain size evolution. The energy trade-off hypothesis(ETH) predicts that reducing the energy consumption of reproduction or other costly tissues should compensate for the cost of a large brain.Egg production in birds requires a large proportion of the total energy budget, and a clutch mass in some bird species can outweigh the body mass of the female. To date, this hypothesis has mainly been tested in mammals and ectothermic animals such as anurans and fishes. We collated data on adult brain size, body mass and eggproduction traits such as clutch size, egg mass and annual broods from published studies, and conducted a phylogenetic comparative test of the interplay between egg-production investment and brain size evolution across bird species. After controlling for phylogenetic relationships and body size,we find a negative correlation between brain size and clutch size across 1395 species, which favored ETH.However, when egg mass was integrated in models, positive associations were detected between brain size and mass of eggs(via egg mass, clutch mass and annual total egg mass). Our results suggest that brain size trades off against egg-production only via certain aspects(e.g.,clutch size).By contrast,a positive relationship between brain size and total egg reproduction(e.g.,clutch mass and annual total egg mass) implied increased total energy budget outweighing energy allocation across bird species. Our study shows that there is no general energy trade-off between brain size and eggreproduction investment, and suggests that brain size evolution follows mixed strategies across bird species.Shaobin Li Xiaoman Liu Guopan Li Xiaolong Du 2023Avian Research2023,14,3:0
