2Biofilm-overproducing Bacillus subtilis B12ΔYwcc decreases Cd uptake in Chinese cabbage through increasing Cd-immobilizing related gene abundance and root surface colonization显示文摘Biofilm-producing bacteria can decrease Cd uptake in vegetables, but mechanisms underlying this effect are poorly characterized. In this study, two mutant strains B12ΔYwcc and B12ΔSlr R were constructed from a biofilm-producing Bacillus subtilis strain B12. Then, the impacts of strain B12 and its high biofilm-producing mutant strain B12ΔYwcc and low biofilmproducing mutant strain B12ΔSlr R on Cd availability and uptake in Chinese cabbage and the related mechanisms were investigated in the Cd-polluted soil. Strain B12 and its mutants B12ΔYwcc and B12ΔSlr R increased the dry biomasses of edible tissues by 54%–130% compared with the controls. Strain B12 and its mutant B12ΔYwcc reduced the soil available Cd content by 36%–50% and root and edible tissue Cd contents by 23%–50% compared with the controls. Furthermore, the mutant strain B12ΔYwcc reduced the edible tissue Cd content by40% and increased the polysaccharide content by 23%, invertase activity by 139%, and gene copies of the cum A by 4.5-fold, eps A by 7.1-fold, and cad A by 4.3-fold, which were involved in Cd adsorption in the rhizosphere soils, respectively, compared with strain B12. The polysaccharide content and cum A, eps A, and cad A gene copy numbers showed significantly reverse correlations with the available Cd content. Notably, the mutant strain B12ΔYwcc showed better ability to colonize the vegetable root surface than strain B12. These findings demonstrated that the biofilm-overproducing mutant strain B12ΔYwcc increased the polysaccharide production and Cd-immobilizing related cum A, eps A, and cad A gene copies, resulting in lower Cd availability and accumulation in Chinese cabbage in the Cd-polluted soil.Yanyan Ge Zhanbiao Ge Jinwei Zheng Xiafang Sheng Linyan He 2022Journal of Environmental Sciences2022,34,10:1

7A chromosome-level genome assembly for Erianthus fulvus provides insights into its biofuel potential and facilitates breeding for improvement of sugarcane显示文摘Erianthus produces substantial biomass,exhibits a good Brix value,and shows wide environmental adaptability,making it a potential biofuel plant.In contrast to closely related sorghum and sugarcane,Erianthus can grow in degraded soils,thus releasing pressure on agricultural lands used for biofuel production.However,the lack of genomic resources for Erianthus hinders its genetic improvement,thus limiting its potential for biofuel production.In the present study,we generated a chromosome-scale reference genome for Erianthus fulvus Nees.The genome size estimated by flow cytometry was 937 Mb,and the assembled genome size was 902 Mb,covering 96.26%of the estimated genome size.A total of 35065 proteincoding genes were predicted,and 67.89%of the genome was found to be repetitive.A recent wholegenome duplication occurred approximately 74.10 million years ago in the E.fulvus genome.Phylogenetic analysis showed that E.fulvus is evolutionarily closer to S.spontaneum and diverged after S.bicolor.Three of the 10 chromosomes of E.fulvus formed through rearrangements of ancestral chromosomes.Phylogenetic reconstruction of the Saccharum complex revealed a polyphyletic origin of the complex and a sister relationship of E.fulvus with Saccharum sp.,excluding S.arundinaceum.On the basis of the four amino acid residues that provide substrate specificity,the E.fulvus SWEET proteins were classified as monoand disaccharide sugar transporters.Ortho-QTL genes identified for 10 biofuel-related traits may aid in the rapid screening of E.fulvus populations to enhance breeding programs for improved biofuel production.The results of this study provide valuable insights for breeding programs aimed at improving biofuel production in E.fulvus and enhancing sugarcane introgression programs.Ling Kui Aasim Majeed Xianhong Wang Zijiang Yang Jian Chen Lilian He Yining Di Xuzhen Li Zhenfeng Qian Yinming Jiao Guoyun Wang Lufeng Liu Rong Xu Shujie Gu Qinghui Yang Shuying Chen Hongbo Lou Yu Meng Linyan Xie Fu Xu Qingqing Shen Amit Singh Karl Gruber Yunbing Pan Tingting Hao Yang Dong Fusheng Li 2023Plant Communications2023,4,4:0
8Enormous Promotion of Photocatalytic Activity through the Use of Near-Single Layer Covalent Organic Frameworks显示文摘Enhancing the charge separation efficiency is highly effective strategy in improving the photocatalytic activity of covalent organic frameworks(COFs)which have the problems of low conductivity and difficult dissociation of excitons.In this work,we report the sevenfold increase in apparent quantum efficiency resulting from the use of a near-single layer COF(SLCOF)in photocatalytic hydrogen evolution compared with bulk COF.Detected by transient absorption spectroscopy characterization,100% of photogenerated long-lived electrons in the near-SLCOF can be extracted and participate in the photocatalytic process.However,the electron extraction efficiency declined to only about 11% when the COFs were increased to eight layers,implying the difficulty of charge migration among COFs interlayers.The near-SLCOF was prepared by deposition of selfexfoliated COFs colloids on SiO_(2),driven by their strong affinity.This work not only sheds light on the significant influence of COF layer thickness on the charge separation efficiency but also provides a new route to prepare and stabilize COF layers for practical applications.Xiaomin Ren Chunzhi Li Wanchao Kang He Li NaTa Sheng Ye Linyan Hu Xiuli Wang Can Li Qihua Yang 2022CCS Chemistry2022,4,7:0
